What did China get right in facilitating the explosive development in this industry? Was is just subsidies, or were there other important policies that helped jumpstart it? After wrapping up our first 20 films on the list last week, we thought it would be a good idea to do something different: take a trip to the CINEMAAAAA! This week, the guys took in the new Ridley Scott epic - Napoleon. Does Jason have a spicy hot take on one of the main performances in this film? Was the movie trying to cover too much of Napoleon's life? Why does Ridley Scott love the colour blue so much? Napoleon seems to be really into dead people? Hmm? Plus: some movie trailer talk. This week we welcome back Mark Monstroski to head to the stars! We discuss the newly released 'Napoleon', the 2019 film year, and we give 'Ad Astra' a re-watch. We're a positive film podcast who buzzes each other with drink penalties when we speak negatively, and Mark is our most buzzed guest three times over! What did we think of Ridley Scott's new biopic, starring Joaquin Phoenix and Vanessa Kirby, and what did we think of James Gray's “Heart of Darkness in space”, starring Brad Pitt, Tommy Lee Jones, Ruth Negga, and Donald Sutherland? Well, liking a pair of movies doesn't mean we didn't drink a lot.

Greetings! A lot of synchronicity occurred in the construction of this particular show. It started with the book pictured below which was rescued from a local thrift store. It consists, as the title indicates, of a collection of program notes for performances of compositions with the tuba as a solo classical instrument. As I started going through it, I found that while there were some interesting pieces documented, the copyright date was 1994. This, in turn, inspired a dive down another internet rabbit hold to find more current tuba based music. In addition as I was digging, I found that May 6th, the day before the broadcast, was International Tuba Day. Whoda thunk? My resulting research turned up three doctoral dissertations which focused on various aspects of tuba repertoire, a solo tuba discography & a resource for composers concerning the capabilities of tuba, including the use of extended techniques. ⦁ Investigating "experimentalism" : a case study of the tuba and its repertoire - Andrew Brian Larson - DMA diss., Louisiana State University, 2013 ⦁ Tuba Solo Discography: A Comprehensive Guide to Solo Literature Recordings Released on Compact Disc - Brian Gallion - DMA diss., Louisiana State University, 2010. ⦁ The Composers Guide To The Tuba: Creating A New Resource On The Capabilities of the Tuba - Aaron Michael Hynds - DMA diss., Graduate College of Bowling Green State University (2019) With these resources, it's your turn to deep dive into contemporary tuba music. Visualisation- This show describes the corner stone of goal setting and “levelling up” your business, career or life. Simon (and the people he works alongside) have used this to great effect for many years. Simon and Ben describe how they have used this technique, how they have used it to help others achieve things, and how you can get started if you have never visualised a desired outcome before. There is a true science to the act of visualisation, and this is discussed also discussed in detail. There is some real gold in this and something techniques you can put into practice straight away! Hilary Mantel's Man Booker Prize-winning novels Wolf Hall and Bring Up the Bodies were brought to the stage in 2014 by the Royal Shakespeare Company, adapted by Mike Poulton and directed by Jeremy Herrin. The third in the series, The Mirror and the Light, has opened at the Gielgud Theatre, again directed by Herrin but this time adapted by Mantel herself with Ben Miles, who has played the central character of Thomas Cromwell across all three plays. Also returning is Nathaniel Parker as King Henry VIII. BTG Editor David Chadderton spoke to him on the morning of the press night performance about the production, as well as about playing real people (from King Henry to Gordon Brown and Albert Speer), lockdown, playing Bond (in a manner of speaking) and just a little bit of politics. The Mirror and the Light began previews at London's Gielgud Theatre on 23 September 2021, opened on 6 October and is booking until 23 January 2022. For more information about the production, see the web sites of The Mirror and the Light or The RSC. To keep up-to-date with Nat's work and blog posts, see his web site. Ben Miles – Co-Founder Victorious Festival & Co-Host of the Show! This is week 5 of the first ever series of Mindset Musings Podcast, we want to thank everyone for the support and feedback so far, either in the review section or indeed directly. A slightly different show this week in response to that feedback. Today we turn the spot light on Ben…a great chance to get to know him better, his story and add some context for the rest of the series and beyond. I think its key to mention, this week's show notes are being written by me (Simon) so the below isn't self-proclaimed, and written about Ben and not by him… Ben has a great story, a truly inspiring one, and unlike many entrepreneurs and business people I have encountered in my time, his goals seem to centre around time with his family and making a positive impact on others. That impact started way back when, putting on gigs and small shows around his home town of Portsmouth. Marketing techniques involved 2am flyer sessions and the late 90's favourite of slapping up posters around town. These gigs were a real success so much so, he even found his face on a billboard much to the hilarity of his mates. This was whilst working as a labourer, often not sleeping for 24-36 hours whilst working shifts in London's Fabric nightclub and making it back to Portsmouth just in time for the day job….and often not getting other jobs he was interviewing for! Ben and his 2 friends took their love of music and the contacts they had made and opened what turned out to be the iconic Little Jonny Russell's (LJR) in 2006. From there a second and a third place spawned before Victorious Festival then came to life. Not wanting to give too much away….but things snowballed from there. It's been quite a journey so far, and Ben discusses some lessons learned on that path, as well as some practical takeaway and mindset tips that have helped in his success. Ben also highlights the importance of networking and leaving a good impression. Nothing is achieved by one person, it takes a team so collaboration and excellent communication is key. Ben is also firm believer in being judged on your actions and not just your words…so time to put your money where your mouth is, settle down for the next hour and enjoy the show! Ben Miles speaks passionately about his college experience and why he thinks schooling as we know it may not fit in the new world. If you are a millennial this is a must listen.
We live in a day where an entrepreneur is the “hot” thing to be. There’s a glamorous idea that fill our heads when we think of not working for someone else and being exclusively on our own time. However, we neglect the consistent time, effort and creativity it to requires to build something meaningful. Ben Miles and Kay (@Kaysaidit IG) share a car conversation on how they are approaching the journey. These are their stories.

Amidst our pandemic and the need for a unifying voice of healing, our communities benefit from the wise leadership of my very good friend, Ben Miles, president of Parkview Regional Medical Center and Affiliates. A believer, husband, and father of three daughters, his insights to the Holy Spirit’s guidance during life’s transitions are powerful for any leader. It doesn’t hurt that he looks like Superman.
It feels strange recording a podcast about buying records during these difficult times. We start off by discussing some ideas on where to donate to support causes that are more important to us right now than buying records. We then each dug out some older purchases from our piles to discuss. We also celebrate the news of PJ Harvey reissuing her catalog!
There is no love lost between men and women in 2020. Ben Miles believes that both men and women are fighting a loosing battle when it comes to establishing a lasting relationship with the opposite sex. He also chooses to hold men accountable as there is no time to deflect responsibility. Yet the question remains, Are long term romantic relationships between men and women still possible?
In this very 1st episode of SWEET'N UP! with Jeff Spencer & Ben Miles we introduce ourselves to you, set the tone for the future of our podcast & get into the nitty gritty of COVID-19 and all of its challenges and new normals. As the world comes to a standstill due to a fatal pandemic known as the Coronavirus, Ben Miles takes it upon himself to shed light on this historical situation. In this episode he shares some scary thoughts about the future of the world and humans. Let’s talk!
Continuing with the life-altering book “The Blackman’s Guide to Understanding the Blackwoman,” Ben Miles reads and analyzes the chapter called “The Good Wife Syndrome.” Sharazhad Ali, the author, makes her duty to highlight that there is nothing wrong with a woman catering to her family and her man. However, modern society has placed a stigma on this idea as if to say that you are useless as a woman if this is what makes you happy. In this episode Ben Miles states, “The greatest thing a woman can do in life is to bring life in to the world.” As controversial as it may seem, the nature of women completely supports this claim. Why are we so against having and building a family in this time? Let’s go deeper.
Ben Miles is continuing his reading of the book, “The Blackman’s Guide to Understanding the Blackwoman.” In this episode men will gain a better understanding of women’s motives, how and why they ask questions, and the best way to answer these sometimes tough questions. Ben Miles declares to his peers to not be afraid of vulnerability with your significant other. Do not be afraid to express your fears. As society stands today, our generation is on the fast track to being alone or even worse, dead relationships. We must be the change we want to see. Let’s reconnect.
This week the TLS is running an extract from The Mirror & the Light, the long-awaited third and final volume of Hilary Mantel’s Thomas Cromwell novels. In 1538 Thomas Cromwell, Lord Privy Seal, questions Geoffrey Pole, the youngest son of a great family. Pole is accused of conspiring against Henry VIII and attempting to bring back the old religion and reinstate the Pope as head of the Church. (The Mirror & the Light will be published on March 5 by Fourth Estate. The audio book is published by W F Howes and narrated by Ben Miles.) See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
Ben Miles has been following his heart these days and his lead him to some unsettled conclusions. It has become obvious that men and women do not get along on a “romantic” level. But why? What are the details about the way we love that we cannot agree on? Is it solvable? Ben Miles has taken on a new read that will hopefully shed some light on reasons for our imbalance. The answers may be tough. Are we ready to be held accountable?
Two days ago the world received news that one of the greatest athletes to ever grace the Earth, Kobe Bryant, passed away in a tragic helicopter crash in California along with his 13 year old daughter, Gianna. He was known and respected by everyone. Despite such an unbelievable occurrence we must find solace. As we are reminded of the outstanding on-court performances of the past, Ben Miles seeks to provide clarity and some positive takeaways the world can digest for the present and future. As we all know we only get one life.
It has been a very interesting start to the year and Ben Miles is picking up right where he left. Often ridiculed for his compelling observations, he brings another ailing topic to light. Are we as young men and women racing against time? At this very moment the answer is yes. But why? Ben Miles seeks to breakdown the 2 most pressing things everyone thinks about on a weekly basis, and the impact of thinking this way.

This episode we’re with Ben Miles, Executive Creative Director at Interbrand Australia. Ben has been with Interbrand for over a decade and during that time has seen it evolve and change — this is what Ben terms the ‘three horizons of Interbrand Australia’. We spend some time unpacking these periods, why people made the culture and how the studio has tried to ‘stand apart’ from what is expected of them. We also discuss the new ownership and how big data will further evolve the studio. Matt often refers to Ben as the most optimistic designer he knows, thus the idea of optimism, blind or realistic, is discussed and how Ben’s view on it has changed. Throughout this episode we dig into specific projects (Telstra, G’ AY MATE and The Prince Akatoki), exploring the concepts and how the ideas developed. Ben is a big believer of ideas, but he always wants to know what happens next, how does it grow and get people behind it. Special thanks to Streamtime for their steadfast support and motivation. Every action, every thought, every word is a tally up or a knock down to you getting there. But whose to say that place even exists? Ben Miles explains what heaven really is and how we should experience it.
This particular episode directly correlates to a video on the YouTube channel. Ben Miles is ready to move on from the grips of racism. Majority have been taught the concept of racism since youth. But is it just that? A concept? Have we been wired to plug this systematic hatred into our brains and pass it down from generation to generation? Let’s not neglect facts. There is a system in place. But there has to be a way to overcome that, right?

Tim Parks is the author of fourteen novels including Europa (shortlisted for the Booker prize), Destiny, Cleaver, Sex is Forbidden and, most recently, In Extremis. He has also written several books of non fiction, the latest of which "Out of My Head" tells the highly personal and often surprisingly funny story of Parks's quest to discover more about consciousness. It seems not a day goes by without a discussion on whether computers can be conscious, whether our universe is some kind of simulation, whether the mind is unique to humans or spread out across the universe. Out of My Head aims to explore these ideas via metaphysical considerations and laboratory experiments in terms we can all understand and invites us to see space, time, colour and smell, sounds and sensations in a new way. Husker fans this week were on the receiving end of some sad, but expected news, as fullback Ben Miles announced he was leaving the program and seeking to continue his educational and football career elsewhere. Thank you! pic.twitter.com/kMMPMYiouK — ben miles (@BenBmiles2) May 2, 2018 I say “expected” because the offensive system Scott Frost is implementing doesn’t really call for a fullback. So Hoss tells us some places that Miles could wind up that utilize the fullback in the way he is accustomed. We quickly touch on Husker baseball (WHERE ARE YOU, KEITH?) and Husker softball. And then for fun, which NFL players would be able to successfully wrestle a bear? It’s the dead zone of Husker football. So we’re going to mix it up some in the next few months and put some of our fellow Corn Nation folks on the show to learn more about them. And we’ll sprinkle in some football movie fun as well. If you like the show, please share it with your friends on social media. Help us get the word out. If you REALLY like the show, leave us a nice rate/review on iTunes. That’d be quite nice of you.
