“For me, the experience was daunting, certainly in the beginning. To be the leader of a production, and have all these folk who I know are very talented and extremely skilled and have more information and have the words . . . they're all looking at me as the leader of this production, to guide it. So that was daunting, and I was slightly intimidated. But knowing I had the support of our team and most importantly, our star, Courtney Oliver . . . the fact that I had her stamp of approval made the process a lot easier.” That's Playhouse on the Square's Marcus Cox, making his directorial debut leading Playhouse's holiday production of Who's Holiday, on working for the first time with the talented crew and design teams that collaborate on putting on a show for live theater. Join host Mark Fleischer for SB 30 Episode 79 as he talks with Who's Holiday Director Marcus Cox – also the Director of Community Relations for Playhouse on the Square – about live theater, about the current slate of Playhouse shows, about the state of post-pandemic theater-going, and about his work in his directorial debut. Recorded December 8, 2022 in the Playhouse café at Playhouse on the Square, in Memphis, Tennessee.

Welcome to the first episode of a new podcast, Brewers Perspective. Brews News created the first Australian beer podcast way back in 2011. As Brews News has evolved we discuss the news of the week and also the backgrounds of industry people, probing their experiences in the industry. If you haven't heard it, you may well be interested in the industry news and insights those shows contain. Very regularly we get asked to tackle topics that are quite niche and quite technical. The topics are often ones that we would really like to explore, but may be a little off topic of Radio Brews News That's one of the reasons we created the BreweryPro channel as the home for content that has higher value but for a more limited audience for our general listener. Next week the first episode is titled, There's No Five Second Rule In Brewing, and looks at brewing cleanliness and sanitation. It features Aron McGarrity from Ecolab, but as you'll hear when it drops, it not looking specifically at chemicals but how brewery design and planning, and systems can make sure your beer is the best it can be. But before we do that, we wanted to introduce our hosts to give you a little background on the people who will be anchoring the discussions, Anthony Clem and Marcus Cox. Anthony Clem has been a guest on Beer is a Conversation more than once. During his time with Lion discussing XXXX Pale Ale and also during his time as Head Brewer at Hemingways in Cairns. More recently he worked was a Member of the Quality Committee for the IBA and the judging panel of the RNA, recently started a business as a Brewing Consultant with the intent to give brewery owners the capability and insight to live their dreams of building a craft brewery creating consistently great quality craft beer. Marcus Cox Hired by Newstead Brewing Co in January 2021 to add some fundamental quality structures, quickly becoming Head Brewer in March. He was the first Australian to judge at European Beer Star awards in Munich, 14 year IBD member and MBAA District Pittsburgh re-founder, former VP and current Past President. You can follow this new podcast on our RBN Brewery Pro stream and join the new Facebook group. Our partners Radio Brews News is proudly presented by Cryer Malt, who we are thrilled to announce are back supporting us for another year of conversations. The Drinking Partners bring comedy back on tap as they welcome comic Marcus Cox and reminisce on their early days as performers. It doesn’t take long for the jokes and jabs to start and the laughter to spread as Ed and Day banter back and forth and Marcus joins in, which listeners will recognize as a true return to form for the Drinking Partners. The trio gets momentarily serious as they discuss comedy as a profession during pandemic times and the difficulties that have accompanied closed stages and venues. And then the conversation transitions into oversized belt buckles, earrings, and other aughts-centric style, as Ed remarks, “These kids don’t know.” This latest Drinking Partners release is more than just entertainment, as it fully explores several angles of careers in comedy, from financial security to self-preservation and promotion, with Marcus explaining how his own business ventures - MC Auto Detailing - has helped support him throughout the last year. Another classic Drinking Partners listen, filled with philosophy on comedy and beyond, and one that offers enough laughs to last until the next release. Yet also offers some hate for crinkle cut fries. Find Marcus on Facebook as Marcus Cox and on IG: @marcuscomedy86

So pop in your earbuds and let's go, y'all!

We finish up our Holiday season film fest with this 27th episode of The Plotaholics Podcast which is dedicated to 2003's irreverent holiday classic (?) Bad Santa. Bad Santa features an all-star cast that includes Billy Bob Thornton (aka Mr. Angelina Jolie #1), Bernie Mac (RIP), John Ritter (RIP), Lauren Graham, Cloris Leachman, Tony Cox (Friday's Mr. Parker), and Lauren Tom (aka Julie, the better girlfriend of Ross from Friends). In this film, Willie Stokes (Thornton) is a miserable, alcoholic thief disguised as a mall Santa along with his partner Marcus (Cox) as his elf. The two work a mall, then rob said mall on Christmas Eve. This time around Willie meets the strange child, Thurman Merman (Brett Kelley), and Sue, a bartender with a Santa fetish (Graham). The foul-mouthed, heavy drinking Willie has a battle with his conscience with the new individuals in his life. Will he be able to do the right thing on Christmas Eve? Will Shane be able to stomach this film? Will Bryan be able to finish the movie despite rewatching one scene over and over?Listen to this episode and find out!Support the show (https://plotaholics.com)
On this episode we take our talents to Connecticut and stay true to our Tri-State intentions! We got the chance to sit with a graduate of Kolbe Cathedral H.S., where this man helped lead his team to the state chip. Born and bred in Bridgeport, he's stayed loyal to his city in both his decision to attend UConn, to play for coach Jim Calhoun, and also as a current coach/mentor via his New England Supreme basketball academy. We learn about the events that led him to transfer to UMass Amherst to play for then coach Steve Lappas and how injury and some missteps didn't deter him from making progress in life beyond basketball. My “real” name is actually Mark but I adopted the nickname of Marcus when I “fell into the light” after a horrendous car accident in 1968. I was in a coma for 10 days and “crossed over to the other side”. That was my first experience of truly “Going Beyond the Box” and I guess you could say I was pretty “normal” until that day. There are many names for this “falling into the light” experience but rather than try to label it I will just say it really changes your perspective! There are a lot of us “NDE” (Near Death Experiencers) coming out of the closet these days and I believe our stories can help people lighten up and go beyond the box before we blow each other up! If you are not familiar with “people coming back from the other side” I highly recommend you read Anita Moorjani's book “Dying to Be Me” or watch some of her videos on this web site. Leading with this new vision, Deb has evolved into a Work-Life Fit Expert and created a model for revitalization, stress management, and leadership success.
Marcus Cox did it! On Saturday vs. the ULM Warhawks, Marcus Cox surpassed Kevin Richardson as the all time leading rusher in App State history!Does this make him the GOAT (Greatest Of All Time)? Or do other RBs reign supreme? This isn't a science but we try to make it one anyway! Steve Brown and David Jackson join us to discuss.
