Greg's book “Fire Your Financial Advisor” is now available! Sports betting is exploding. Did you think about the taxes? At Golden Reserve, "Financial Advisor" is a dirty word. "Video game. Video game. Didn't Anyone ask for a bat, a sword, or Molotov cocktails?" A new year means a new season of Behind the Bells. Today we're collaborating with Gerry from the Totally Rad Christmas! podcast to talk about last years suprise Christmas hit, Violent Night. The two of us podcasters talk about the movie thats part Die Hard, part The Santa Clause, part Bad Santa and even a little bit part The Ref, as Stranger Thing's Dave Harbour as Santa has to fend off theives as run by John Leguizamo and save Christmas. We really liked the movie and have a lot of fun talking about our favorite moments, favorite kills, speculate on who could play Mrs. Claus, and we even spitball our own casting had Violent Night been made in the 80s. Stokes (Billy Bob Thornton) and his partner (Tony Cox) reunite once a year for a holiday con. Posing as a mall Santa and his elf, they rip off shopping outlets on Christmas Eve. | Review | Time for some season's beatings! Santa Claus comes to town in Violent Night, a jolly little Christmas action flick that takes itself just the right amount of seriously. With equal parts Die Hard, Home Alone, and Bad Santa, this might be another holiday staple. Merry Christmas you filthy animals.
Santa Clause is famous for his bag of gifts, sleigh, and eight reindeer, along with his long-white beard and festive outfit. His origins as a character stretch from the god Odin and his many-legged horse, to European traditions of a more saintly Father Christmas, to shamanistic culture with its fly agaric mushrooms, hallucinations of flying animals, and elves. But Santa is changing. Movies like Violent Night, Fatman, and even Bad Santa are altering our cultural tradition, turning benevolence into malevolence. Likewise, movies such as Krampus or Mean One are turning malevolence into a glorified thing. This means that our ideas of what is Naughty or Nice have also been altered, resulting in a distorted version of reality - an inverted and imbalanced reality. Shamanism dives into these upside down realms. It preserves a wealth of mysticism and mythology, and is partly responsible for our general Christmas traditions. Shamans have always been deformed, crippled, or mentally damaged individuals who have gone into another world and brought back helpful knowledge. Our governments shares in these qualities; they are crippled, suffering from dementia, brain damage, physical ailments, etc. They visit the other side and commune with therianthropes like Krampus and then return not to help their people, but to whip them into servitude for being Naughty. Virtually everything our government tells us is a fabrication, a delusion, a hallucination, as if they are all taking mushrooms as they consult their experts. The idea of Santa Claus can also be found in our governments. Government officials, who supposedly represent the people, live wealthy and extravagant lives equivalent to some mystical character living at the North Pole, except they're in Washington DC. Every year we are asked to believe in their power, told that if we are nice citizens instead of naughty ones, and that if we vote the right way, we will be rewarded. Government hands us a few dollars of ‘free' money that isn't free and tells us it's a gift, while keeping the rest. But the way that most government officials act is more akin to the Grinch. The Grinch is a trickster who takes presents to destroy them, or rearranges the order of who receives what - this is much like the Lords of Misrule during the Roman Saturnalia. Ultimately the Grinch hates Christmas and wants to destroy it, not understanding the deeper meaning behind the gifts and lights and decorations. Government officials act very much the same. They seem to hate America and it's past, not understanding that America is more than wealth and abundance. Everything good, decent, moral, and worth anything of value has been put on the Grinch's sleigh and taken to the top of Mount Crumpet where he plans to dump it. Krampus, on the other hand, delivers what has been earned - what we deserve - and that is a big bag of coal.

(THSP Classic Episode!) Originally recorded Tuesday December 13th, 2016 with a original air date of December 20th, 2016. Happy Holidays, fans! That Horror Show Podcast is back with a very special Christmas-themed episode for you horror movie lovers out there. Yes, the Christmas tree is up with all the trimmings, the stockings are hung by the fireplace, and the eggnog with an extra pinch of brandy is ready to be consumed. And yes, that annoying little ‘Elf on the Shelf' has been tied up and locked in the closet where he should be! Anyways, join in on the festivities as hosts Timothy Kazda and Chris Koenig review two holiday horror movies: “Black Christmas” and…well, "Black Christmas”. That's right, Tim and Chris sing their praises over the Bob Clark classic “Black Christmas” (1974), as well as offer their grievances over Glen Morgan's remake “Black Christmas” (2006). But wait, there's more: Tim and Chris also offer their favorite non-horror themed Christmas movies. Listen in as Chris talks a bit about his holiday favorites “Bad Santa” (2003), “Scandal” (1950) and “Larceny Inc.” (1942), while Tim reveals his holiday pleasures “The Long Kiss Goodnight” (1996), “National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation” (1989) and “It's a Wonderful Life” (1946). Consider this little segment a hybrid of the ‘What Have We Watched' segment that you all know and love (and, in case if you are wondering, we will be bringing that segment back for next year's episodes, we promise!). #BlackChristmas #BobClark #THSP

This week Jackie and Danielle are talking about the 2002 raunchy Christmas comedy Bad Santa with our guest David! In this dark comedy, the crotchety Willie T. Stokes and his partner reunite for a holiday con. Posing as a mall Santa and his elf, they rip off shopping outlets on Christmas Eve. This year, however, Willie is falling apart. The Rich Zeoli Show- Hour 2: Tim Carney—Senior Columnist at The Washington Examiner—joins The Rich Zeoli Show to discuss his recent article, “The Left's Endless String of Censorship Justifications.” Carney writes of Democrats, “[t]hey are trying to shoehorn conservative speech into a category of unprotected speech.” For example, in November, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio Cortez accused Tucker Carlson of engaging in “stochastic terrorism” for criticizing her on his nightly Fox News television show. The Daily Wire compiled a list of the darkest Christmas movies—the list included, Bad Santa, Violent Night, The Night Before, and Die Hard. On Tuesday, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis held a roundtable COVID-19 discussion where he petitioned the state's Supreme Court to impanel a grand jury to investigate the role pharmaceutical companies played in downplaying the potential side-effects of mRNA vaccinations. In an opinion editorial featured in The Wall Street Journal, Johns Hopkins Professor Dr. Marty Makary writes: “Long Covid is real. I have reliable patients who describe lingering symptoms after Covid infection. But public-health officials have massively exaggerated long Covid to scare low-risk Americans as our government gives more than $1 billion to a long Covid medical-industrial complex.”

According to the court of public opinion, you're either a sinner... or a saint. Because nuance can't compute in the minds of 2022 folk, everybody. This phenomenon is something Paul Johansson and I discuss regarding his dark and twisted character in "Detective Knight: Redemption" (out now) -- the action trilogy in which Grandma Dan Scott (my One Tree Hill lovers) stars alongside icon Bruce Willis. This short chat ain't like the others in Paul's junket circuit experience. We get deep about society's obsession with judging everyone and behind the scenes of working with Bruce Willis in the last bang before his retirement amid all the headline chaos around the actor's aphasia (a cognitive and language disorder) diagnosis. After this you'll think twice about how society labels people: naughty or nice. You decide. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/taylor-ferber/support

This week, Travis is joined by Joe Houde to talk about the anti-Christmas movie, 2003's Bad Santa. Starring Billy Bob Thornton, Tony Cox, and John Ritter. It's crass. It's crude. It's in no way jolly or heart warming. But, is it any good? Well, Joe hadn't seen it before, so let's find out what he thinks... Thanks go out to Audie Norman (@TheAudieNorman) for the album art. Our Christmas Series continues strong with a dark comedy classic–Bad Santa. It's junk food humor at its nastiest, and the opposite of any other Christmas movie you could imagine. To pair, we enjoy Elk Cove Pinot Noir. It's a splurge buy ($30ish) from Oregon, and goes perfectly as a first bottle, or as a gift... The post Bad Santa (2003) appeared first on Cinemavino.

In Steph & Laura's catch up today, they discuss some of the WORST gifts they've ever received, and we hear some absolute shockers you guys have gotten too! Plus, Steph has a big life update to do with her living situation.. something she never thought she'd have to do again in her life! SPECIAL SHARES: Steph - Don't Worry Darling, film with Harry Styles Laura – Quote from Brené Brown's book Dare to Lead - “If you are not in the arena getting your ass kicked on occasion, I'm not interested in or open to your feedback. There are a million cheap seats in the world today filled with people who will never be brave with their lives but who will spend every ounce of energy they have hurling advice and judgment at those who dare greatly. Their only contributions are criticism, cynicism, and fear-mongering. If you're criticising from a place where you're not also putting yourself on the line, I'm not interested in what you have to say.” KIC UPDATE: Stay tuned for KIC's Black Friday sale going live this Thursday 24 November via Instagram @keepitcleaner or via the website www.keepitcleaner.comSee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
Taffy Brodesser-Akner is a staff writer at the New York Times and the creator of the new Hulu television series Fleishman Is in Trouble, based on her bestselling novel. “I took the cast out to dinner … And the way they began talking to each other, which was very intimate, was like a punch in the stomach. Because I had always thought that I got people to open up to me [in celebrity profiles]. And I was like, Oh, no, I got them to answer questions differently than maybe they had before. … And that was a little devastating to me.” Show notes: @taffyakner taffyakner.com Brodesser-Akner on Longform 00:00 Brodesser-Akner on Longform Podcast (#126) 00:00 Brodesser-Akner on Longform Podcast (#350) 01:00 Brodesser-Akner's New York Times archive 01:00 Brodesser-Akner's GQ archive 01:00 Fleishman Is in Trouble (Hulu • 2022) 01:00 Fleishman Is in Trouble (Random House • 2020) 04:00 "Billy Bob Thornton on Bad Santa 2, Ungrateful Fans, and Why He Won't Direct Anymore" (GQ • Nov 2016) 09:00 "Jimmy Buffett Does Not Live the Jimmy Buffett Lifestyle" (New York Times • Feb 2018) 13:00 "The Gospel According to Marianne Williamson" (New York Times • Sep 2019) 14:00 Erin Brockovich (2000) 17:00 "This Tom Hanks Story Will Help You Feel Less Bad" (New York Times • Nov 2019) 17:00 "What Happened to Val Kilmer?
