Today, we tackle the sensitive subject of masturbation. What does the Bible say about it? Why do Christians differ on their opinions? And how can we discern what's right for us? Sponsor Thanks, once again, to Married Dance for sponsoring this episode. Check them out for quality products displayed in a nudity-free and marriage-focused environment. Great customer service too! From the Bible But mark this: There will be terrible times in the last days. People will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boastful, proud, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, without love, unforgiving, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not lovers of the good, treacherous, rash, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God— having a form of godliness but denying its power. Have nothing to do with such people. 1 Timothy 3:1–5 (not about masturbation, but a passage we discussed and worth reading in context for yourself) “Everything is permissible for me,” but not everything is beneficial. “Everything is permissible for me,” but I will not be mastered by anything. 1 Corinthians 6:12 “Everything is permissible,” but not everything is beneficial. “Everything is permissible,” but not everything builds up. 1 Corinthians 10:23 Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails. 1 Corinthians 13:4–8a If anyone, then, knows the good they ought to do and doesn't do it, it is sin for them. LOVING LIFE AT HOME - Christian Marriage, Faith-Based Parenting, Biblical Homemaking, Purposeful Living

The marriage lessons we learn by example are often the most memorable. Some of the examples we see teach us what works, what leads to a successful, happy marriage, what we may want to emulate in our own.  But sometimes the examples we see serve as cautionary tales. They show us what doesn't work, what kinds of attitudes and behaviors will submarine your marriage and undermine its happiness or longevity.  Either way, the lessons are instructive. They can lead us in a direction we want to go or warn us to steer clear of potentially dangerous potholes along the way.  Show Notes VERSES CITED: - Philippians 2:3-4 - “Do nothing from selfishness or empty conceit, but with humility of mind regard one another as more important than yourselves; do not merely look out for your own personal interests, but also for the interests of others.” - 1 Corinthians 13:4-8 - "Love is patient, love is kind and is not jealous; love does not brag and is not arrogant, does not act unbecomingly; it does not seek its own, is not provoked, does not take into account a wrong suffered, does not rejoice in unrighteousness, but rejoices with the truth; bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. Love never fails.”  RELATED LINKS: - Secrets to Marital Success: 30 Lessons in 30 Years of Marriage - Episode 34: The #1 Rule for Building a Happy Marriage - The A-to-Z Guide to Building a Better Marriage - 7 Ways to Ruin Your Marriage - Free Printable Medicine Tracker (for caregivers like my father-in-law) STAY CONNECTED: - Subscribe: Flanders Family Freebies -(weekly themed link lists of free resources) - Instagram: follow @flanders_family for more great content - Family Blog: Flanders Family Home Life (parenting tips, homeschool help, lots of free printables!)  - Marriage Blog: Loving Life at Home  (encouragement in your roles as wife, mother, believer)

As we've done the past few years on our wedding anniversary, this week my wife Emily and I share a conversation reflecting on the past year of our marriage. This was probably the most challenging year of our marriage, but in many ways it became the most refining. I've talked about it briefly in the few episodes I've done this year, but our lives were in a constant state of chaos this past year. A tornado hit our home on December 11, 2021, and we were displaced for almost nine months. That was just the beginning of what was pretty much just a long series of unfortunate events that significantly interrupted our lives. I wrote about most of it earlier this year. You can read that article on my website at coleclaybourn.com. We had a lot of people help us navigate this past year — financially, physically, emotionally, and certainly spiritually. We lived most of this year without a lot of stuff, in an unnatural environment, and with a lot of inconveniences. But at the risk of being cheesy, we really did learn what truly matters. There's much to be grateful for and lots to be excited about as we look ahead to 2023. Thanks for listening! I'd love for you to connect with me by signing up for my newsletter: coledouglasclaybourn.substack.com. Being married can be hard. Especially once that honeymoon phase is over and you've been a few years around the block.  A lot of marriages fail, now more than ever. Some people end up avoiding going down the path of marriage altogether and stay in this loop of always looking for someone better. But, is the grass really greener on the other side?  In this conversation, we unpack all things marriage as we dig deep into how to actually make your marriage not just work, but to thrive!  As you will find out, one of the key elements of a successful marriage is to take responsibility for your own actions and words. We talk about why the judgment of the partner is one of the key pitfalls to a marriage ending, how taking the good things for granted is a recipe for disaster, and what to do about it.  Not married? Paternity Child Benefits If any issues ever arise over the paternity of a child with a married couple, the married couple may have less of an issue. Leave Benefits Through your employer, you can usually take a family leave if your spouse is sick, or bereavement leave if your spouse or someone in your spouse's immediate family passes away. The Emotional Benefits of Marriage Longer Life Research consistently shows that couples in a committed marriage even live longer than those who are single, cohabiting or divorced Less Chance of Developing Depression Of course, no relationship is perfect, but a healthy, functioning marriage can provide stress and anxiety relief in many different forms: encouraging each other to strive for healthier goals, complimenting each other's positive qualities and celebrating each other's successes Increased Serotonin Levels (a Natural Antidepressant) Coming home from a long day of work and having that partner there for physical affection increases positive mood, and, ultimately, intimacy. *NOTE* Allergic reaction to bouquets Timelines and Checklists www.fromringtoveil.com/checklists FRTV Swag www.fromringtoveil.com/tee Join our Facebook Group Subscribe to the podcast: { Apple Podcasts }{ Spotify }{ Stitcher }{ Youtube } { iHeartradio }{ Alexa }{ CastBox }{ GooglePodcasts } -Until next time, No Stress No Worries Keep Calm and Listen On-

I've found myself struggling with frustration and discontentment as a stay-at-home mom. Before we got married, I'm sure I pictured myself as this ideal Christian wife and mom, being involved at church together as a family, decorating my Pinterest-perfect home, etc. In reality, my husband's present work schedule doesn't allow us to do ministry as a family, we are living in a small apartment that doesn't feel like home, and plans for the future are still up in the air. This isn't where I want our family to be, and I've started to take my frustration out on my husband. God has really been convicting me about my spirit, and I want to be
a happier more content wife and mom. I'd like your practical advice on how to reconcile expectation vs. reality. Show Summary On today’s show we wrap up our “How to Change Your Life” series by taking a look at where we are right now versus where we started. We focus on Leslie’s journey, especially his Essential Intent and how living it has helped him eliminate a bunch of other stuff to focus on what really matters. Laura gives an update on how the treatment of her depression is going and we give a sneak preview of the next big topic. We got interviewed on another podcast and it goes live this week. We’ll tell you where to listen to our interview. And, as always, we close the show with What we’re going to do for each other this week.
