On March 10, a demolition crew tore up the pavement of Black Lives Matter Plaza in Washington DC, and Reverend Starlette Thomas was there to bear witness. With this moment of government-ordered erasure as our starting point, we talk with Thomas about the protest and community that happened on that very ground after the killing of George Floyd in 2020—and why recent history has made many African-American protestors avoid the recent “Hands Off” rallies across the country. In this fiery and revelatory conversation, Thomas explains how our “color-coded” society is a facade for a destructive caste system, how those who are “racialized” with the identity of “white body supremacy” need to squelch the voices of others to stay in power, and makes the case for finding our holy “somebodyness” in something other than race.Starlette Thomas is an author, activist, visual artist, and race abolitionist. The push for impeachment is gaining steam thanks to the grassroots movement CitizensImpeachment.com. And while spineless Republicans like Lisa Murkowski make excuses instead of calling for the impeachment of a lawless would-be dictator, people are waking up. An estimated 500 people rallied and marched in downtown Troy on Saturday, April 19 to oppose the Trump administration, demanding that Trump and Elon Musk take their Hands Off our democracy, economy, and public services. In the afternoon, about 1000 braved the rain to protest at the State Capitol in Albany. From the Troy event, we hear from Leigh Bailey and Leyla Kiosse from Indivisible, followed by law professor Mary Lynch, Adam Pelletier of the Federal Unionist Network, and long-time labor activist, Art Fleishner, former Head of the Troy Area Labor Council. Since early February, a protest phenomenon has been building steadily across the United States, springing up at scores of Tesla dealerships from coast to coast. Organizers call it Tesla Takedown. It's remarkable in part because in today's United States, we have engineered an environment that prioritizes automotive convenience and speed—and in the process deadens civic life and makes protest difficult. So it's ironic that Tesla dealerships, many of them located in the worst kind of automotive sprawl, have emerged as crucial nodes in a decentralized network of resistance to Elon Musk and Donald Trump.  In this episode, we talk to participants and organizers about what is motivating them.
