Today, we sit down with Nick Stumbo, a former pastor and the Executive Director of Pure Desire, to dive into a complex subject: pornography addiction. With sexually explicit material more accessible than ever, men and women across the world find themselves impacted by ongoing exposure to it. How does pornography influence our culture as a whole? How can we break free from this cycle of addiction? Join us now to see for yourself… Nick was a third-generation pastor who began his ministry work at the East Hills Alliance Church in Kelso, Washington, where he served as head pastor for more than 10 years. During this time, Nick closely observed the sexual brokenness and devastation in the congregation. Instead of meeting this with judgment, he recognized the need for grace in the Church like never before. Nick found hope and healing on his own journey with pornography addiction through the transformative resources provided at Pure Desire. This radical change not only led to his personal healing but also sparked a revival of forgiveness and healing among his loved ones. Later, Nick launched his own Pure Desire groups for men and women – staying connected to Christ's path all along the way. He also authored two books, Setting Us Free and Safe. Click play to discover: Why male and female porn consumption is so different. The elements that make pornography so addictive. How Pure Desire is leading the charge toward healing and sustainable change. The benefits of bringing the subject of pornography addiction out of the shadows. Do you ever feel strong urges to view pornography, tied to specific patterns, times, or emotions? I call this "over-desire" - and it's something many people struggle with. But here's the good news: just like the scientist Pavlov trained his dogs to stop salivating at the sound of a bell, we can train our brains to overcome these compulsions too. I explain the science behind over-desire and share real-life examples of how people have successfully reconditioned their brains. I also share the importance of understanding the difference between over-desire and an addiction, and introduce the concept of mindfulness as a key tool in the process of building a healthier relationship with your sexuality. In this episode, Hunter shares the story of exposure to pornography and it becoming and unwanted behavior. Over time, he became more open, honest, and public about the struggles he had experienced and found that to be an important part of the process of letting it go. He also shares the impact of shame, which only worsened the behaviors, and learned to let go of shame and let go of perfectionism to create a healthier relationship with himself and others. He talks about reframing porn in a way that lessened its appeal, and how changing his perspective on it has helped him to decrease the desire to view and seek deeper, authentic connection. In this episode, we explore how releasing shame and embracing support can transform the process. Whether through coaching, community, or leaning on trusted relationships, you can find guidance, encouragement, and tools to move forward.
