A Story of a Good Man: Joseph by Mark Pekar, Matthew 1:18-25
Real love is costly, isn't it! God's love for us, the kind of love that gives and invests, is being revealed in Matthew's account of the Christmas story. When Joseph finds out Mary is pregnant, his plan is to divorce her. God changes his plan with the kind of love that changes the world! What kind of love is this? A merciful love; a love that communicates and includes; a love that protects and invests; the kind of love that is present and with us always. AsĀ it is in Mary and Joseph's complicated life situation, God's love is still all of these things for us today.
Sermon recording from Sunday, December 8th, 2024.A study of Matthew 1:18-25.Thesis: It takes courage to give your life to Jesus.
The Christmas story - the real Christmas story - is anything but a quiet, sanitary event. It's full of sight, sound, raw emotions, and all the smells of a 1st Century sheep town. From shepherds working the night shift where all heaven is breaking loose in the fields, to the Lamb of God lying in a manger, heaven's glory is stepping into the very real grit and grime of humanity. God has never been afraid to enter into our mess to bring heaven to earth. Note: In this week's podcast, most of the Scriptures (Luke 1:26-38; 2:1-20; Matthew 1:18-25) were read prior to the message as a part of the Christmas Eve service at Destination Church.

Have you had something that hasn't gone as planned this year? How did you react when your plans were interrupted or messed with? Many of us resist those events and we cling to our plans tightly. But, as we see in the Christmas story, God often interrupts our plans and invites us to follow Him into new ones. In this message, Scott Savages shares from Matthew 1:18-25 about three ways we can surrender to God with us in those moments. Also, near the end of this message, Scott is joined by Jennifer Myers who shares her story of how she experienced God with her through deep grief and pain.

Those who would follow Jesus are called to make the same kind of persevering commitment that Joseph made when he was asked to take responsibility for the Christ Child. Sometimes that means we are literally called to care about and care for other people's children.

Guest Pastor Bob Mayo Scripture: Matthew 1:18-25
There are different versions of the Christmas Story from different gospels. Matthew relates the story from the perspective of Joseph. Luke relates the story from the perspective of Mary. John is more theological and Mark goes right past it and starts with Jesus baptism. We are dealing with Matthew 1:18-25. From start to finish we see in Joseph the highest quality and character; that which we all ought to emulate. But Joseph, in all his self restraint and godliness, still needed a revelation, a dream from God to go the right, but counterintuitive path.

Jesus isn't Superman, Santa Claus, or our fairy godmother. We want a God who'll save us from our circumstances, but Jesus saves us from ourselves.
