"Wonderful Counsellor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace."It's no wonder that these words written some 800 years before the birth of Jesus make the prophet Isaiah such a favourite with Christians, especially at Christmas. Embark on this year-long voyage through the Bible, and let each day's passage uplift and inspire you. TODAY'S EPISODE: Welcome to the Daily Radio Bible! In today's episode, host Hunter guides us through a thoughtful reading of Isaiah chapters 29 to 31 and James chapter 1. Together, we reflect on powerful themes of trust, humility, and transformation. Hunter invites us to consider what it means to truly accept the Word that God has planted in our hearts—a Word that points to Jesus Himself, the living Word with the power to save and transform lives. As we journey through these Scripture passages, we're reminded of the importance of not just hearing God's Word, but letting it shape our actions, attitudes, and relationships. Hunter wraps up with a time of heartfelt prayer, encouraging all of us to walk in God's joy, strength, and love throughout the day ahead. So grab your Bible, settle in, and let's discover together what God is saying to us today. TODAY'S DEVOTION: What is the word that God has planted in your heart? That's the important question James is asking, and one we must truly consider. The apostle James urges us to humbly accept the word that God has planted in our hearts because it has the power to save our souls. So, let's be clear about what that word is. The word that saves and transforms is not our performance or even our own striving—it is the Living Word, our Lord Jesus. Jesus is the One with the power to save your soul, and – as Hunter so clearly reminds us – he's already done it. That is the good news. It's not about what we do. It's about Christ—his life, his saving power, his indwelling presence. This is the true Word with the power we need, both to save and to change us. James reminds us that humbly receiving this gift brings transformation, not only for eternity, but for the here and now. The gospel—the good news of Jesus—has that kind of power. We are invited to look deeply into the “perfect law that sets us free,” to gaze into that mirror and see the origin of our design, the very image of our Creator, and to recognize who we really are in Christ. When we see ourselves through the gospel—when we remember who we are because of the One who lives in us—we find power to overcome, to live newly, to control our tongues as James instructs, and to love those in the world who are most vulnerable. What seemed impossible—self control, selflessness, deep compassion—is now possible, not because of our effort but because of Christ who lives in us and has made us new. So what is the word God has planted in your heart? It is Jesus—and he makes all the difference. Let's remember what we see when we look in that mirror: see him, see what he has done, and see what we have truly become. That's the truth that empowers us to live out this day in his joy, in his power, and in his love. That's the prayer for my own soul. That's the prayer I have for my family—my wife, my daughters, and my son. And that's the prayer that I have for you. May it be so. TODAY'S PRAYERS: Almighty and ever loving God, you have brought us to the light of a new morning. Cleanse the thoughts of our hearts by the inspiration of your Holy Spirit that we may walk this day in peace. Guard our steps from temptation, shield us from the weight of fear and shame, and lead us deeper into the joy of your presence through Jesus Christ, our Lord. Amen. O Christ, light of the nations, shine in every place where shadows dwell. Call the scattered home, Heal the wounds of division and gather all people into the communion of your grace. May the knowledge of the Lord cover the earth as the waters cover the sea. Amen. And our Lord. Make my hands ready for mercy, make my eyes quick to see the hurting, my ears open to the cry of the lonely, and my feet swift to bring good news. Let me seek to bless, not to be noticed, to serve, not to be praised, to forgive, not to hold back. For in your way is life, in your mercy is healing, and in your love is the peace this world cannot give. Amen. And now, as our Lord has taught us, we are bold to pray. The Lord's Prayer: Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever and ever. Amen. OUR WEBSITE: www.dailyradiobible.com We are reading through the New Living Translation. It's easy to see the Bible as fable, a kind of religious fairy tale with a moralistic sting in its tail.Passages like this one show that much of the book is rooted in actual historical events. These chapters are a snapshot of the late eighth century BC Middle East. The prophet Isaiah is begging the king of one of these nations (Ahaz of Judah) not to enter an alliance with two others (Israel and Aram) against the threat of an invasion from the Assyrian Empire.Instead, Ahaz should rely on God.In his prophecy which involves naming his own children as a sign to Judah and describing dead bodies lying like excrement on Jerusalem's streets, Isaiah appears to predict the arrival of Jesus, a divine rescuer who he refers to enigmatically as 'The Light of the World.'Written and produced by Chas BayfieldMusic by Michael Auld and Jon Hawkins MusicCover art by Lisa GoffSend any comments or feedback to contact@whollybuyable.comX: @WhollyBuyable

We established the fact that the concept of free will is man made and that the Bible does not actually speak of free will in regard to man but speaks of limited will and that is because of the fact that the will of God is sovereign over the entire universe including man, and sovereign therefore over the will of man. Yes, man can make choices, but the choices that man is able to make are framed by circumstances that God creates around him and by doing so God limits the choices that man can make. For more Free books, Sunday teachings and bible studies, or to make a love offering, please visit us at: https://www.walkinginpower.orgThis program references scripture:Isaiah 54:16, 26:9John 10:10Lamentations 3:38Ecclesiastes 1:13, 3:1Jeremiah 4:6, 18:11Amos 3:61 Peter 1:7Revelation 13:81 Timothy 2:4, 4:10Dr. Bern Zumpano is a Pastor and Teacher of the Word of God who has authored several books on Spirit-filled living through relationship with Jesus Christ and walking in the Power of the Holy Spirit. Looking for some divine assistance on a tough decision? Have you considered shooting some arrows? Dropping oil in water? What about sacrificing a sheep? This week's episode uses the Book of Isaiah, the first work of prophecy on our reading list, as a springboard for looking at divination, magic, and prophecy in the ancient world.Need a transcript or want to check out the references Rose used to write this episode? Let's talk.
For episode 24, we return to the Hebrew Bible. By itself, the Book of Isaiah is one of humanity's most influential works of spiritual literature. In addition to laying the foundations of Rabbinic Judaism and Christianity, Isaiah has contributed dozens of phrases into our language, such as "swords into plowshares", "a little child shall lead them," and, of course, "a voice in the wilderness." Follow along with Rose Judson as she walks through it, talking you through the historical context, theories about how and where it was written, and, well, a few euphemisms for bodily functions.Apologies for the sound quality in this episode: we had to re-record at short notice.Want to read the transcript? Sermon on Isaiah 9:1-7 by Pastor Jeff McInnis from Springhill Community Church
Real love is costly, isn't it! God's love for us, the kind of love that gives and invests, is being revealed in Matthew's account of the Christmas story. When Joseph finds out Mary is pregnant, his plan is to divorce her. God changes his plan with the kind of love that changes the world! What kind of love is this? A merciful love; a love that communicates and includes; a love that protects and invests; the kind of love that is present and with us always. As it is in Mary and Joseph's complicated life situation, God's love is still all of these things for us today.
Did Jesus come to bring peace? Absolutely, but not in the way that the people of His time were expecting. Jesus brings a peace that includes reconciliation, forgiveness, compassion, mercy, and favor. As He brings salvation to us in these ways, He also challenges us to partner with Him, extending them to others as well. Christ came to serve and die for "us," and also for "them." Through Christ, we are made one, an amazing gift so desperately needed in our world!
The prophecies of the coming Messiah were well-known to the Jewish people, stirring hope in hearts living in captivity. Yet, when the angel Gabriel first bings news of practical, tangible hope that sets up the coming of the Messiah, Zechariah is not quite ready to believe it. Six months later, Gabriel brings word to Mary that the long-hoped-for Messiah is going to come through her, and she responds differently. Hope is coming, and hope has a name: Jesus. The Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace, Son of David, and Son of the Most High God - these are being fully revealed in Jesus Christ, who brings us a forever hope!
Avraham Gileadi is an expert on the Book of Isaiah. In Gileadi's framework on Isaiah, Egypt is America. With this understanding, he shows that America will fall into civil war, will be invaded, will have nuclear war, and will have a "Dragon" as a leader. In the Book of Mormon, Jesus commands us to read and study the Book of Isaiah. How many of us do that? In the Old World, Jesus referenced Isaiah to launch His ministry. In today's episode of Sermon Notes, Jay and Brian are back to discuss the second half of Isaiah. Filled with prophecy, hope for the Israelites (and for us), and a call to action to serve a broken world for the sake of the gospel, Isaiah is a book that we have lots to learn from. We delve into the character and sovereignty of God, how he disciplines and refines His people, and the hope that is found in Jesus Christ. This episode also discusses the significance of Isaiah's prophecies in relation to Jesus' life and ministry, highlighting the fulfillment of hundreds of prophecies and the depth of God's love and mercy demonstrated through Christ's suffering and crucifixion. The importance of faith, trust in God's plans, and the call for compassion and justice as continuing themes from the prophets is highlighted in today's episode.

Oh God you have made of one blood all the peoples of the earth and sent your blessed son to preach peace to those who are far and those who are near. Grant that people everywhere may seek after you, and find you. Bring the nations into your fold, pour out your Spirit on all flesh, and hasten the coming of your kingdom through Jesus Christ our Lord, Amen. And now Lord, make me an instrument of your peace. Where there is hatred let me sow love. Where there is injury, pardon. Where there is doubt, faith. Where there is despair, hope. Where there is darkness, light. And where there is sadness, Joy. Oh Lord grant that I might not seek to be consoled as to console. To be understood as to understand, to be loved as to love. For it is in the giving that we receive, in the pardoning that we are pardoned, it is in the dying that we are born unto eternal life. Amen And now as our Lord has taught us we are bold to pray... Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, they kingdom come thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven, give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our tresspasses as we forgive those who trespass against us, and lead us not unto temptation, but deliver us from evil, for thine is the Kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen. Loving God, we give you thanks for restoring us in your image.
