Insights on nonprofit fundraising staff management and the transformative power of technology in fundraising. Our guest explains the importance for fundraisers to pursue work-life balance as an "ebb and flow" rather than a strict equilibrium, and emphasizing the importance of personal well-being alongside professional effectiveness, to meet the challenges in building a sustainable and humane fundraising environment. Watch on video! In this lively exchange, hosted by Wendy Adams and Julia Patrick, Micah James, a Senior Platform Coach at Bloomerang, shares a look at what truly resonates with those involved in nonprofit management and fundraising.  Micah and the team at Bloomerang have been instrumental in helping organizations transition from traditional methods like Excel and Google Sheets to more sophisticated customer relationship management (CRM) tools offered by Bloomerang. She delightfully notes the "aha moments" experienced by clients when they realize the efficiencies gained through automation. Micah explains, "One of my favorite moments is when clients realize they don't have to do things manually anymore. It's about seeing those fundraising practices come to life, and technology come alongside fundraising." The chat steps into the crucial topic of work-life balance within the nonprofit sector. Micah introduces a refreshing perspective on the concept of balance, emphasizing it as more of an "ebb and flow" rather than a strict equilibrium. She believes that it's unrealistic to expect a 50/50 balance daily and suggests that a more fluid understanding is needed to maintain both personal well-being and professional effectiveness. She continues, stressing the value of sustaining not just financial resources but also the well-being of those who lead nonprofits. She acknowledged how the shift to digital platforms can be overwhelming for some but also opens new paths for operational efficiency and donor engagement. Micah shared her approach to management, focusing on the human aspects of her team members before business metrics. This, she argues, is essential to create a supportive work environment and improve staff retention, which is crucial given the typically high turnover in the sector. Micah ends with a statement on the intersection of sustainable fundraising and employee well-being, pointing to the need for organizations to recognize the multifaceted challenges their staff face and to cultivate an environment that supports long-term engagement and success. Micah's words are a strong reminder of the human element in the too often mechanically perceived field of fundraising, echoing a need for empathy, understanding, and adaptability as nonprofit's pursue their philanthropic goals.Follow us on the Twitter: @Nonprofit_ShowSend us your ideas for Show Guests or Topics: HelpDesk@AmericanNonprofitAcademy.comVisit us on the web:The Nonprofit Show

In this lively episode, Micah James, Manager of Professional Services at Bloomerang.co, shares insights on how nonprofits can enhance their year-end fundraising efforts. Micah starts with the importance of authenticity in nonprofit messaging during this busy season, advising organizations to avoid cookie-cutter approaches and instead showcase their unique missions and impact. Micah encourages nonprofits to communicate authentically, connecting with their local communities and highlighting their specific contributions to solving community problems. She points out that unique approaches tend to resonate more with donors, stating, "It's really about connecting not only with your community—where are you located? What's your context? —but also, what do you do in that community to solve that community's problems?" The conversation also covers the use of video in nonprofit communications. Micah recommends short (90-second or less) videos to provide a distinctive touch and make supporters feel connected to the organization's work. Authenticity was key, and she advised against over-editing, encouraging nonprofits to showcase their day-to-day operations and impact. Micah urges, "90 seconds or less is like that perfect sauce. So it's not too long, not too short—just letting me say, 'Hey, how are you? This is us. Come on in. Don't you want to be a part of this?'" The hosts asked about the challenge of nonprofits operating remotely or without a physical presence to showcase. Micah digs into storytelling and capturing the essence of the organization through conversations, even if it's a virtual tour or discussion among team members. This episode also describes the importance of maintaining a consistent brand image throughout the donation process, including on landing pages. Micah stresses the need to minimize friction in the donation process, ensuring that donors feel safe and comfortable, advising nonprofits to test their own donation experiences, stating, "If you haven't gone through your own donor experience yourself, do it today, like before the end of the day, donate a dollar and see how it feels all the way through so you know what your donors." Watch the entire episode and you will gain practical advice for your NPO to optimize year-end fundraising efforts, focusing on authenticity, effective use of video, and maintaining brand consistency to create a compelling donor experience. Originally released: September 2012. When it comes to hip-hop, producers tend to be the amazing visualists; every thing they create has a great vision behind it, which in turn gives them the ability to subtly change many things about hip-hop. A great example of this is Los Angeles producer, Ro Blvd. After his latest release "Heart Pounding Panic", Ro Blvd calls in to talk to Special. He speaks on his newest project and newest ventures with his company Paperose Imagination, his history with music and wanting to change the musical standards, amongst many more topics. "I tell people all the time through thick and thin, I'm gonna live and die by my samples. That's who I am and that's what helped raised me and that's what helped open the doors to a project like 'Heart Pounding Panic'. Just for the simple fact that sampling taught me so much", he replied when asked about the comparison between this project and his previous, "Produc Placers 6". He later confesses his aim for his latest project. "I really want to push the musical standards as far as hip hop music goes, with rhythmic music, or even pop music. WIth "Heart Pounding Panic" I really wanted to tear down some walls as far as the genre position of the album.. I want people to feel good about listening to hip-hop again. I want people to be able to play it at a cocktail party and feel like they can listen to it without feeling bullied or feeling aggravated of some sort. I want people to feel proud again." He also speaks about working with Micah James again calling him "one of the top emcees, in general, period". He says that he of course will have production on Thurzday's upcoming album "Blood On The Canvas" and speaks on their collaboration process over the years. Upcoming he has new videos for "Heart Pounding Panic", hopefully two mixtapes before the end of the year, and his next full length project.
