Sooo, is it actually possible to recover from anxiety, panic disorder, and agoraphobia? Like for good? Well of course my short and sweet answer is... Yes, absolutely! But I created this episode because I know all too well how easy it is to question this idea and get sucked into the belief that it's not possible to recover. In this episode, I help answer some of your questions, address your doubts, and address some of the messages out there that just aren't helpful or true about recovery. I hope you walk away from this episode feeling much more clear (and hopeful) on why recovery IS absolutely possible, and what being recovered actually means!STRUGGLING WTH THE SYMPTOMS AND PANIC ATTACKS? I think there are a lot of opinions and pieces of advice out there that actually hinders people's recovery. And I think that if you take these opinions and pieces of advice in and you make them your beliefs, well, it'll make it extremely hard for you to overcome anxiety, panic disorder, and agoraphobia! So in this episode I'm sharing 4 unpopular opinions that I have that will probably make you rethink how you may be approaching your recovery, and I hope they do. And undoubtedly, you may disagree with some of these and that's absolutely okay. But I feel like I would be doing you a disservice if I didn't share these with you.STRUGGLING WTH THE SYMPTOMS AND PANIC ATTACKS? Human evolution is incredible. We come out of the womb knowing that our greatest chance of survival is to attach to a primary caretaker who will keep us safe. And that innate wisdom is what motivates children to seek closeness and connection to their secure base. When children suffer from an anxiety disorder the threat detector in their brain is on overdrive and more and more they rely on their parents to protect and soothe them. And while parents have the best intentions, this interpersonal dance can actually serve to increase the severity and frequency of anxiety in children. Dr. Eli Lebowitz of the Yale Child Study Center has pioneered a new treatment that interrupts that dance! By altering the way parents respond to their child when they are in distress, rather than fueling the flames of anxiety, parents are able to lessen the symptoms, all without asking their child to change his or her behavior in any way. SPACE has been a game changer in my private practice and I was delighted when Dr. Lebowitz agreed to come on the podcast to discuss the incredible work he is doing and the amazing results they are seeing. If you are interested in learning more about the work that Upshur Bren Psychology Group is doing to treat child anxiety and OCD with SPACE, go to upshurbren.com/space.

In this week's part 2 episode, I'm answering more of your questions! And when I was going through your questions, I noticed some big themes. Things like a lack of self-confidence, and fearing fear, and feeling overwhelmed, and self-doubt, and a lack of trust in yourself and your capabilities. And these are big areas where lots of people struggle in the recovery journey, so these are all things that I'm going to hit on today! Here's a sneak peak of some of the questions I'm answering in this episode: Where can I start to gain some self-confidence? My anxiety is no longer provoked by everyday events. How do I get to the next level? Will it ever get easier? It feels overwhelming to think of all that I still have to work on. My biggest obstacle is wondering how far the anxiety attack will go. Will I faint? Will I lose my notion of time and space? What can happen to me? It is really hard for me to just stay there and let the anxiety be. A few weeks back, I sent out a survey to everyone on my email list and I asked you what questions you had for me relating to your recovery, and I got so many good questions! So in this episode, I'm going to answer 10 of your questions, and then I'll do a part 2 episode next week so that I can answer some more. And I got hundreds of questions, so if you don't hear your question answered here, I may instead answer it in a reel or in one of my weekly emails. Here's a sneak peak of some of the questions I'm answering in this episode: How do I control my thoughts? What if I'm different and I won't recover? Why aren't exposures working? How do I stop making a plan B? How do I get rid of the symptoms? So much of what's shared about anxiety recovery is about what you CAN or SHOULD do, and what tips and tools you can use that will be helpful, but there's not much about the flipside, right? Meaning all the things you maybe don't have to do (or even should do) in order to recover. Because the reality is that you can't and you don't have to do it all in order to recover, and the recovery journey is actually a whole lot about doing less. In this episode, I cover 6 things that I didn't do to recover from anxiety, panic disorder, and agoraphobia.
