Matthew Hedberg is the VP General Manager of Professional Services at Semcasting a data-as-a-service company working with health insurers, agents, CCOs, PPOs, hospital networks, and pharmaceutical and medical device manufacturers. Carrying a SOC 2 Type II certification, Semcasting is helping clients determine how to use the information they have and enhance that data to incorporate it into a digital program for patient outreach and education of targeted audiences. Matthew explains, "There are significant timelines as well. Even if we are scoped to receive data for a particular project from a particular brand, it may take weeks or months to get the necessary additional approvals to receive certain levels of patient or member information for a particular project. This is just as an additional layer of safety and concern to make sure that patient data is protected and isn't circulating around amongst any players who aren't required to see it." "One of the more specific tactical tools we developed back in 2018 was the idea of utilizing IP addresses as an advertising efficiency to reach patients, utilizing publication by Wi-Fi within the particular physician offices. What we realized, especially when we're looking at recruiting for clinical trials, is that this decision is necessarily incredibly complex to understand, even if a patient is wonderfully adept at researching their own healthcare condition. So, what we decided to attempt in there was how can we provide a certain message about the availability of a particular treatment to a patient but also allow them to do so in a window where they may be able to have a conversation with the physician about all of the complexities that may surround this particular decision." @Semcasting #DigitalAds #ClinicalTrialRecruitment #TargetingPatients #PharmaceuticalAds #RareDiseases semcasting.com Download the transcript here

On episode 403 of The Nurse Keith Show nursing and healthcare career podcast, Keith interviews Dr. G. Rumay Alexander, EdD, RN, FAAN, a noted presenter, provocateur, consultant, professor of nursing, and the American Nurses Association's current Scholar-In-Residence. In the course of their conversation, Keith and Dr. Alexander converse on a variety of subjects, including being a Black nurse who embodies the dream that Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. so passionately described in his famous speech. Dr. Alexander abhors what she refers to as "truth decay", and she is passionate about busting stereotypes. Detesting being put in a box, she has dedicated her life to kicking down the sides of the box and speaking and giving voice to the hurts and slights suffered by so many throughout history. Dr. Alexander feels blessed to have had a seat at so many tables, and advises others to get themselves into spaces where they can be seen and heard, and thus have more impact. G. Rumay Alexander, EdD, RN, FAAN is a professor in the School of Nursing, Assistant Dean of Relational Excellence at the Adams School of Dentistry, and formerly the Associate Vice-Chancellor for Diversity and Inclusion/Chief Diversity Officer of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. At the end of 2019, she completed her presidency of the National League for Nursing, the national voice for nursing education which has over 40,000 nurse educators and 1200 schools of nursing. In February of 2021, she became the American Nurses Association's Scholar-In-Residence and advises the National Commission to Address Racism in Nursing. Dr. Alexander is the Senior Vice President for Clinical and Professional Services at the Tennessee Hospital Association and their first vice president of color for two decades. As one of nursing's prominent thought leaders, guiding individuals in academic, corporate, health care and religious organizations in the exploration of marginalizing processes and lived experiences of difference, Dr. Alexander's expertise has and continues to be frequently sought. She has been appointed to several transformative healthcare initiatives addressing diversity, equity and inclusion including the Commission of Workforce for Hospitals and Health Systems of the American Hospital Association (over 500,000 copies of the report have been distributed nationally and internationally), the Tri-Council of Nursing, and the National Quality Forum's steering committee which developed the first national voluntary consensus standards for nursing-sensitive care. Dr. Alexander holds a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Tennessee - Knoxville, a Masters' of Science in Nursing (MSN) and Family Nurse Practitioner from Vanderbilt University and an EdD (Doctorate) in Education, Administration and Supervision from Tennessee State University. ----------- Nurse Keith is a holistic career coach for nurses, professional podcaster, published author, award-winning blogger, inspiring keynote speaker, and successful nurse entrepreneur. Bekhor Management provides strategic and authentic practice development coaching for small to mid-sized professional service firms. Learn more about her services at www.Bekhor.ca ----- Excerpts from this conversation with Sandra Bekhor ----- Communication isn't one thing. So just because you're great at doing your presentation, your pitch to your client, well doesn't mean that you know, how to give someone feedback. And it doesn't mean that you know, how to handle conflict. Right. So, there are so many different aspects of communication. ----- So you have to write a script. And that's your starting point. And then practice it with situations that are safe. And then eventually you do learn that language that is authentic to you. So that when you go into the real world, and and use the script, and it's just a starting point, it's not that you're going to stick to that language Exactly. But you will actually feel bolstered. ----- So your renovation firm doing some renovations on the house. And I'm on the phone with you and say well... I thought you were going to your people were going to show up on Monday, and it's now Tuesday afternoon and they still aren't here and I didn't get any calls. What the hell's the matter with you people? 09:36 Are I'm going to jump in here as Samantha. Oh, George, I am so glad you told me this happened. You know, this week, things have just gotten out of control with people being sick and having family emergencies. And I didn't realize that this happened this morning. I don't know how I will fix this for you. But just give me an hour. I'm going to check in with my team and I promise to call you back in an hour. And then we will discuss what what we can do about this. 10:15 Okay, now I'm calm. ----- 18:22 Ah, wonderful. See? And again, you you, you calm the situation. And you didn't over promise you didn't make excuses. And you pointed out I don't know, I'll have to find it and get back to you. And sometimes that's good enough. 18:41 You know, this is such an interesting point. Most professionals are scared to say I don't know. And it's actually a secret weapon. Just Just remember that people calm down when they see your own. I don't know, transparency. You know, if you say I don't know, it doesn't mean your failure. It doesn't mean you're not good at your job doesn't mean that you're not smart. It means you don't know this exact moment, that specific very thing. And you're making a promise that you will go find out for the person who does know, and you will get back to them. You didn't lose anything in admitting that you don't know. In fact, the person calmed down, because you said that instead of pretending, pretending that you know something that you don't know, which would have made it worse. ----- ----more---- Your Intended Message is the podcast about how you can boost your career and business success by improving your communication skills. Go through your inbox and you'll find yourself responding to messages with, “I bet whoever wrote this is blushing beet red by now. The word ‘cringeworthy' was designed for this.” We've all made at least one cringe-creating mistake and I bet you've seen plenty of examples, too. In my experience, these mistakes don't happen because business owners don't know any better. The problem is, we get busy and we take good advice out of context. We apply a piece of advice that's great for someone else's marketing story archetype…but dangerous to ours. We're encouraged to knock out a blog post in fifteen minutes or less. I'm a pretty fast writer but I make cringeworthy mistakes when I do that. I have to review…and review again. We're told to begin with a story of something embarrassing so we appear vulnerable. Who can forget that email about the person who lost their underwear at an inopportune moment? We're told to be controversial. Take a stand. Criticize your industry. Take aim at the competition. We're not warned, “But don't come across like a victim.” We're told, “Don't give away the store. Don't share too much.” We're not warned, “Don't leave your audience thinking you're a scam artist.” In the right context, each piece of advice can be extremely useful. If you're a Role Model Archetype, you'll share your own struggles – more accurately, how you conquered those struggles to become a success. If you're a Celebrity archetype you're probably not reading this email…but you can get away with a lot. Celebrities attract passionately loyal followers who want them to be outrageous. Celebrity archetypes can get away with a lot…and Role Models are next. If you're not familiar with story archetypes, download this free guide. On this podcast, you won't just learn about mistakes. (That would be mistake #3). You'll discover how to fix them…especially the third: you'll find a rare example of how to turn snark into strategy. More mistakes? The professional services sector has always been a continuum. At one end of the spectrum, we've got high-end advice at the most strategic level in client organisations; at the other, we've services that are so familiar and standardised that they've become a commodity. Professional service firms don't have many people who are explicitly looking at the opportunities for productisation across their business as a whole. Instead, productisation is more likely to be an emerging strategy, in which specific client projects yield opportunities to convert services into products and where much of the actual work is done in people's spare time. Joining us to discuss where the greatest opportunities for productisation lie is Jonathan Attia, KPMG UK's Head of Digital Products.
Equinix, Inc. , the world's digital infrastructure company™, has announced its commitment to reducing its overall power use by increasing operating temperature ranges within its data centres – the first such commitment by an operator of colocation data centres. Starting immediately, Equinix will begin to define a multi-year global roadmap for thermal operations within its data centres aimed at achieving significantly more efficient cooling and decreased carbon impacts, all while continuing to deliver the premium operating environment Equinix is known for. Over time, this initiative is expected to enable thousands of Equinix customers to reduce the Scope 3 carbon emissions associated with their data centre operations as supply chain sustainability becomes an increasingly important part of the overall environmental initiatives of today's businesses. IT equipment within data centres, including routers, servers and storage arrays, emit high levels of heat that requires data centres to be fitted with robust cooling systems to remove that heat. “Most datacentres operate within restrictive temperature and humidity bands, resulting in environments that are unnecessarily cooler than required,” said Rob Brothers, Program Vice President, Datacentre Services, IDC. “Equinix will work with enterprises to change the way we think about operating temperatures within datacentre environments and how the industry can ensure optimal service levels for mission-critical digital infrastructure, while improving data centre efficiencies. With this initiative, Equinix will play a key role in driving change in the industry and help shape the overall sustainability story we all need to participate in.” “As a long-time partner, we are pleased to see that Equinix is driving efficient data centre operations through smart, sustainable operating practices,” said Sue Preston, vice president and general manager, Advisory and Professional Services, Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE). “Optimising data centre temperatures results in more efficient operations, benefitting businesses and the planet. Through the HPE GreenLake alliance, both HPE and Equinix offer a comprehensive, cloud-smart and sustainable customer solution.” As a part of this new efficiency initiative, Equinix expects to operate its facilities closer to 27°C (80°F), aligning operating limits across its global data centre portfolio with the globally accepted boundaries of the A1A standards from the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE). When combined with existing Equinix initiatives such as optimising the use of outside air temperatures to cool its data centres, this new initiative will contribute to the overall sustainability of its data centres through efficiency improvements measured through Power Usage Effectiveness (PUE). PUE represents the total amount of power being used by a data centre divided by the power used to run the IT equipment within the data centre, providing an industry standard for data centre energy efficiency. “Our cooling systems account for approximately 25% of our total energy usage globally,” said Raouf Abdel, Executive Vice President, Global Operations for Equinix. “With this new initiative, we can intelligently adjust the thermostat in our data centres in the same way that consumers do in their homes. Once rolled out across our current global data centre footprint, we anticipate energy efficiency improvements of as much as 10% in various locations.” “Data centres are critical to our daily lives, housing the equipment and interconnecting the businesses that fuel our digital lives – from online shopping to sending emails to streaming movies and video calls,” said Jon Lin, Executive Vice President and General Manager, Data Centre Services for Equinix. “As more than 10,000 businesses globally rely on Equinix's digital infrastructure, it plays a critical role in their supply chains. This initiative, once deployed, has the potential ...

If you believe in providing personalized customer service, you'll love my interview with Frido Diepeveen. In this episode, Frido shared his wealth of experience from 17 years in recruitment and how his Dutch-Hungarian upbringing influenced his service-oriented approach toward his clients and candidates. Born in the Netherlands, Frido trained as a lawyer before discovering his true passion in recruitment and executive search in 2005. That's when he joined a recruitment firm and helped the founder grow to 55 employees before selling it to Randstad in 2010. After the transaction, he remained on the board as Commercial Director and helped the new owner achieve 20-30% year-on-year growth. He stayed with Randstad until 2018 when he decided to start a new recruitment firm from scratch. Frido is now the MD of Diepeveen & Partners, a boutique search firm with a team of 15 based in Budapest, Hungary, and serving clients in North America and Europe. Episode Outline and Highlights [04:49] What inspired Frido to change careers from banking to recruitment? [14:30] Key lessons that Frido gained from his first recruitment job. [17:25] How Frido defines “personalized service.” [24:13] How to handle candidates you can't help and those you can't place right away. [28:49] Frido's insights on cultural sensitivity when dealing with key stakeholders. [31:32] Success factors in rapidly growing a recruitment business. [39:50] Can you position your firm to recruit at all levels, from junior positions right up to senior leadership roles? [43:05] How Frido has grown a boutique search firm from scratch to a team of 15 [52:16] Outsourcing to Hungary - how Frido provides candidate sourcing and recruiting services to other recruitment companies around the world Loving the Recruitment Profession Before becoming a recruiter, Frido worked in banking - first as an in-house counsel and then in a commercial role as an account manager. It was in 2005 that he found his true calling as a recruitment professional. In 2005 he was asked to join a recruitment firm in a start-up phase, called ProfiPower. Founded by Dutch-Hungarian entrepreneur Ilonka Jankovich, he later became an equity partner and they were able to build the business into a market-leading recruitment firm in Hungary. Prior to selling it to Randstad in 2010, they had a team of 55 employees! What were the factors that led to such rapid growth? Frido shared two factors: Service Orientation - they stick to the principle of delivering personalized service. The Dutch way of being straightforward - doing what you say and saying what you do. What Does Delivering a Personalized Service Look Like? How does Frido define personalized service? Pretty much all recruitment firms will say that they offer personalized service to their customers. Fido explained their approach, “Many of my clients have become personal friends over the years… Being personal to me means that you should not see an assignment as one of the many but you should consider it as a unique job that you are so lucky to get to work on.” Frido elaborated on his commitment to client service. For example, he always meets his clients in person regardless of where they're located. That involves lots of international travel. Why bother jumping on a plane to see a client when he could meet on Zoom or Teams? He explained how his mindset on personalized service builds chemistry and long-term relationships with his clients and candidates which eventually results to repeat business. Quality Over Quantity In 2018, Frido started his own recruitment firm from scratch - Diepeveen & Partners International. He leveraged his experience and learnings from his previous organizations. His own firm is rooted in the solid philosophy of quality comes before quantity. This philosophy not only guides the organization on the services they provide to their clients but on how they handle their own employees as well. They ensure that their 15 team members are not overworked and assigned reasonable assignments - improving their quality of work and output. During this time, he had the opportunity to gain a deep understanding of the Hungarian financial sector and to become fluent in the Hungarian language. After four years of back-office as well as front office positions, he found his true calling. In 2005, he started a career in HR consulting and (executive) search. From 2005 to 2010, Frido co-owned and co-managed the recruitment firm ProfiPower that went on to become Hungary's market leader in 2008.
