Comics creator and Eisner Winning illustrator Michael Avon Oeming (Blue Book, The Mice Templar, Powers) joins me on the show today to discuss his new Dark Horse Comics project, William of Newbury. I've been a fan of his work for years now and following his process videos on TikTok inspired me to take this interview in that direction. We talk about how he pulled from English history, specifically the Anarchy, and why he adapted the English historian William into a raccoon cause who would see that coming? The anthropomorphic sandbox is always an interesting one and its motivation here might surprise you. William of Newbury drops in late May. Don't miss it. On today’s show, the crew is joined by Bryan J. L. Glass, writer and co-creator of the epic series Mice Templar. We talk about the intricate mythology of the Templar world and the way that spirituality opens the story up to mystery. We also have a chance to talk about Bryan’s other series, Furious, and the unlikely path its heroine takes to redemption. Also, our old pal Skeletor drops by for a brief visit. All this plus our recommendation, This or That, and a whole lot more!
This week the mischief of As Someone Who Doesn't Read Comics (a mischief is a group of mice (I know my jokes are bad)) read Mice Templar by Bryan J.L. Glass and Micheal Avon Oeming. Why not scurry on over and hear the tail of Karic, a small mouse with a destiny. Don't be fooled by cute mice though, many a decapitation and limb lost are ahead! Without you're input we make up our own rating systems and it's pretty bad. Want to tell us a tail of you're favorite book? Over a year ago, we had the great pleasure of having one of my favorite artists Michael Avon Oeming on our show. At the time his book The Victories had just released it's first trade paperback, Powers Bureau was in it's first few issues and we also got some great stories from the FX pilot for Powers that never was. Well, this week on Booked, Mike returns along with Taki Soma to talk with me (The Stevil Dead). A lot of new stuff to talk about as Mike and Taki have just released their first issue of their new book wit Image Comics, Sinergy, a bad ass demon hunter book. I ask them how the idea for the book came about and how the experience differed from working with Taki to working with Brian Michael Bendis on Powers or Bryan Glass on Mice Templar. We also get into the age old question of who would be on their zombie survival routine. I also asked every question I could think of pertaining to the December release of the Playstation Network's first ever TV show, Powers. How does it differ from the FX pilot? What was the trailer unveiling experience at New York Comic Con and what was it like meeting comedian, actor, marathon runner and linguist Eddie Izzard, because, believe me, I'm damn jealous. There's so much more that we talked about, so check it out, then head to your local comic shop and pick up Sinergy #1, on shelves now!
Matt and Brett had the pleasure of moderating the Image Writers panel at HeroesCon 2014, which features Matt Fraction (“Sex Criminals”), Kelly Sue DeConnick (“Pretty Deadly”), Bryan JL Glass (“Mice Templar”), and Justin Jordan (“Spread”). It’s great fun to talk with comic artist/writer Michael Oeming, and he chats with me this week about many of his creations, including The Victories, Powers and Mice Templar. Mike updates us about the upcoming Powers major motion picture, and talks about the state of the industry as well. He shares a lot of important information, so be sure to listen in! And be sure to buy The Victories #6, out this Wednesday! I review The Fox #1 from Red Circle Comics, and I think it’s a book you should definitely be picking up! Then everything wraps up with the latest “News & Previews!” Don’t miss it!

Rock-solid proof that what goes up must inevitably come down as we wander through Warren Ellis and John Cassaday's mighty Planetary, Hunter S. Thompson, Scott Pilgrim, IT!, the Terror from Beyond Space from IDW's Midnite Movies line, the Absolute and Omnibus format, X-Force: Sex and Violence #1, Brendan C. Leach's Pterodactyl Hunters in the Gilded City, Michael Avon Oeming and Mice Templar, Robert Kirkman's Skybound imprint and AMC's Walking Dead, characters and series that have lost their luster, Vertigo and the miniseries format, listener goodies, and much more!
Join us for a huge cast this week as we talk to Mike Oeming and Bryan Glass of Mice Templar! Also, we talk Brightest Day #3, Avengers #1, and discuss whether the superhero genre of film is up, up and away or if it's culturally devoid of hope (and we don't mean the Mutant Messiah). And once again we play Devil/Nekron's Advocate with death and the DCU.
Mice Templar writer Bryan J.L. Glass joins us to talk about the popular fantasy series from Image comics, about his previous collaborations with artist Michael Avon Oeming, and about his background as a film student and his path into comics writing.
A shorter version seeing as both Billy and Dylan were under the weather. But they soldier on reviewing Buffy the Vampire Slayer #6, Y The Last Man #58, Outsiders #50 and Mice Templar #1. We go over our meager listener feedback and Dylan shares his Top 5 Final Story Arcs.
August 31, 2007 - Ron blew his mind by picking Action Comics #855 and enjoyed a Superman story for the first time. The Mice Templar #1 stymied us but Teen Titans #50 would have been Conor's pick. We talked about a bunch of other books as well. We answer listener e-mail and voicemails too! Check iFanboy.com for the detailed show notes. Learn more about your ad choices.
