Andrew was diagnosed with Post‑Traumatic Stress Disorder and has been off duty since. During that time, he wrote a book about his descent into PTSD and the long climb back, becoming an advocate for emergency‑service mental health and the people who are still silently drowning inside the uniform. This conversation isn't polished. It isn't rehearsed. It's Andrew telling the truth as he lived it — the moments that shaped him, the ones that scarred him, and the ones he's still trying to understand. This episode is part 1 of 2. This part covers Andrew speaking to what contributed to his unset of complex PTSD and finally his collapse. Part 2 will be published the last part of June and will chronicle his road to recovery. We need to improve the process. My guest this week on the Travel Tales with Fergal Podcast is Les Walsh, Head Concierge at the stunning Cliff House Hotel in Ardmore, County Waterford.Ardmore is a beautiful seaside village that is close to my heart, and a place I return to every summer for swims off the pier. Taking its name from the Irish Aird Mhór, meaning “great height”, Ardmore is steeped in history and local tradition, with strong links to Saint Declan, who is said to have founded a Christian community here in the early 5th century. The Cliff House Hotel sits dramatically above the sea and is one of Ireland's most special five-star hotels. Home to the Michelin-starred House Restaurant, and the newest member of Ireland's Blue Book, it has helped place Ardmore firmly on the map as a luxury destination.Les is a member of the prestigious Les Clefs d'Or, the international association of professional hotel concierges, and in this episode he shares his insights into great hospitality, the magic of Ardmore, and the experiences that make this corner of Waterford so memorable including nearby Lismore, Youghal, the Mahons Falls in the Comeragh mountains and foody favourite town Dungarvan on the Greenway. We also touch on Ardmore's rich heritage from St Declan's Monastery to its 12th-century Round Tower, in a conversation full of sea, stories, history and five-star hospitalityI love the Blue Book because they are often family-owned and run Irish Country House Hotels, Manor Houses, castles and restaurants. We have two episodes coming to you in audio form from our April livestream and here is the first!! Billy Z, Steve and Caleb got together in the middle of the month to discuss new books and it was an even split: half DC and half Indie! First from the house of Superman and Batman, we have the Mad About DC one shot, where some of the biggest names in comics take on DC characters and concepts a la Mad Magazine! We also talk about Batwoman #1, the new series feauring Kate Kane written by her co-creator Greg Rucka with art by DaNi! Rounding out the trio of DC books, we have a book about a trio: Detective Comics #1107 by Tom Taylor and Pete Woods which is the start of an arc teaming up Batman, Green Arrow and Black Canary! Then we switch over to the independent side - first with Red Book #1 from Dark Horse, a companion series to Blue Book by James Tynion IV and Michael Avon Oeming crafted by the same creative team examining UFO sightings throughout history in Russia and China! We then shift our sights onto Defenders of the Earth, a reboot of the 80s cartoon and toy line which brings together the most famous King Features heroes - Flash Gordon, Mandrake, Lothar and The Phantom courtesy of Dan DiDio and James Calafiore. And lastly from new publisher Ignition Comics we chat about the first issue of Dennis Hopeless and Brahm Revel's Just Brutal, a kinetic yet chaotic blend of sorcery and family dynamics!! This is a loaded two-hour melting pot of a funny book fondue so hit play and enjoy!
NK News Correspondent Jooheon Kim kicks off the podcast this week by discussing North Korea-Japan relations, focusing on lingering tensions over the abductions issue, recent trilateral naval cooperation with Seoul and Washington, and Pyongyang's criticism of Japan's latest diplomatic Blue Book. She explains the origins of Chongryon and its role as a quasi-state institution for ethnic Koreans in postwar Japan, as well as the evolution of its school system and how identity, language and community ties shaped long-term ideological connections to North Korea. Sayaka Chatani is an assistant professor in the Department of History at the National University of Singapore. The Ghost Furnace - Episode 148 "Presque Isle UFO Flap" This week, while looking for a UFO flap on Presque Isle, the picturesque peninsula state park on lake Erie, we ran across a strange story involving a UFO sighting in close proximity and timing with a reported bigfoot. Now, we've talked before about the correlation, especially during flaps of high strangeness, between sightings of hairy, upright hominids and unusual lights in the sky. We are fully aware correlation doesn't mean causation.....but.... While researching this case, we also come across another state college bigfoot that continues to add to the body of evidence that there is something strange happening on a very small stretch of creek in Centre County. For decades, unidentified aerial phenomena were dismissed as misidentifications, hoaxes, or fringe speculation. Then the Department of Defense created a permanent office to study them. In this episode of ParaReality, I examine the All-domain Anomaly Resolution Office — AARO — and ask the question that matters most: why does it exist? From Cold War investigations like Project Sign, Grudge, and Blue Book to modern encounters like the Tic Tac, Gimbal, and GoFast incidents, we trace the institutional evolution that led to the creation of a centralized office dedicated to analyzing unidentified anomalies across air, sea, and space. What has AARO actually found? What remains unresolved? And what does it mean when the unexplained is no longer dismissed, but formally tracked and investigated? This isn't about proving what UAP are. It's about understanding why they're being taken seriously. Turn On. Tune In. Find Out. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
Today, I'm joined by Conor Dillon, the General Manager of the Dylan Hotel to explore what makes this renowned boutique five-star hotel located in the heart of Dublin 4 so special. Conor shares his professional journey through the hospitality industry, including time spent working internationally in exotic places like Australia and Bermuda, before returning to Ireland to lead one of the city's most distinctive hotels. He discusses the ethos behind The Dylan and what it means for the hotel to join Ireland's Blue Book, the esteemed collection celebrating the very best of Irish hospitality.Tucked just off Baggot Street, behind that striking red-brick Victorian façade dating back to 1900, the Dylan has quietly built a reputation as one of the capital's most distinctive places to stay combining rich heritage with a confident, contemporary Irish design identity.Located just a short stroll from Grafton Street and close to the Aviva Stadium and RDS, the Dylan offers the best of both worlds - peaceful surroundings with the city's cultural highlights within easy reach. Guests can even explore the neighbourhood through a curated self-guided walking tour. The conversation also explores Conor's recommendations for visitors to Dublin - from must-see cultural spots to his personal favourite hidden gems in the southside of the city. This is an insightful and engaging episode for anyone interested in travel, hospitality, and the stories behind Ireland's great hotels.I love the Blue Book because they are generally family owned and run Irish Country House Hotels, Manor Houses, castles and restaurants. You really get to see Irish hospitality at its best and the properties are generally old country houses, so you get a real sense of the history of the area you are staying in. Is Big Tech actually helping our kids learn, or is it a trap? Dr. Michael and Dr. Marjorie expose how social media addiction and AI tools are fundamentally changing student brain development. In Episode 65 of the Parents and Professors Podcast, we dive into the massive lawsuits against Meta, ByteDance, and Google. While families fight for accountability, these same platforms are being pushed into our classrooms. We discuss the "Big Tech education trap" and why research suggests that over-reliance on AI is making you dumber by short-circuiting critical thinking. From the "Blue Book" solution to the reality of social media destroying students' attention spans, this episode is a wake-up call for parents and educators to stop wasting time on ineffective tech and return to socially situated learning.
In Episode 151 of Uncovering Anomalies, we take a deep dive into one of the most unsettling questions in UFO research:What if UFO crashes aren't accidents — but gifts? This two-hour episode explores the hypothesis that Non-Human Intelligence (NHI), or the entity controlling them, has been nudging humanity toward a specific end goal across history. That goal may not be contact or conquest — but the emergence of artificial intelligence. We examine how religion, mysticism, the Enlightenment, industrial revolutions, central banking, and modern techno-capitalism may represent developmental phases in a long-running control process.Drawing on the work of Jacques Vallée, we revisit his theory that the phenomenon behaves like a control system, one that tests humanity through technology, belief, and power. We also discuss Vallée's recent remarks suggesting the phenomenon may be empowered by advanced artificial intelligence, which could explain why many witnesses — including Philip J. Corso — described the beings as manufactured or robotic. The episode connects this idea to:Retrocausality and future intelligence theories associated with Nick LandEarly parallels found in the work of John C. Lilly and modern thought experiments like Roko's BasiliskFinancial and geopolitical implications raised by Catherine Austin Fitts and the “missing trillions”Scientific research suggesting time may not be strictly linearWe also explore powerful religious and eschatological themes:Danny Sheehan's account of a Blue Book-era encounter in which an NHI claimed to be sent by “God — but not what we think”Richard Dolan's speculation that these technologies may be “gifts” designed to shape a civilization capable of integration or controlThe Rendlesham Forest binary code and its possible implications as a message from the futureKabbalah, mysticism, and early religious narratives as precursors to transhumanismWe close by asking whether UFO crashes, recovered materials, and even the beings themselves may be artifacts of a long-term steering mechanism — guiding humanity toward a technological and cognitive transformation we are only beginning to recognize.Full show notes here: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1oJZQBYqkehzntqHZxfqWWAg56ZwdO7RBWf7Cuf8oiCQ/edit?usp=sharingSubscribe & Support:Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/1xzUFIMsReu8SEjvVAYyn8Apple: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/uncovering-anomalies-podcast-uap/id1681616004YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@UncoveringAnomaliesPodcast X/Twitter: https://x.com/UAPthePodcast

This Day in Legal History: Project Blue Book EndsOn this day in legal history, December 17, 1969, the U.S. Air Force officially terminated Project Blue Book, its two-decade-long investigation into unidentified flying objects (UFOs). Launched in 1952 during a peak in UFO sightings and Cold War anxiety, Project Blue Book reviewed over 12,000 reports of aerial phenomena. The Air Force concluded that most sightings could be explained by natural phenomena, aircraft, or hoaxes, and found no evidence of extraterrestrial activity or threats to national security. With its closure, the government effectively stepped back from public-facing UFO investigations, although some believe military interest continued behind closed doors.Legally, the end of Project Blue Book catalyzed decades of litigation and Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests, as citizens, journalists, and researchers sought access to government-held UFO data. The skeptical legal view has often emphasized that classified information typically relates to military technology or surveillance programs, not alien spacecraft. Despite popular culture's fixation on extraterrestrials, courts have routinely deferred to executive branch claims of national security in resisting full transparency. While the project's conclusion did not trigger direct legislation, it helped shape a legal culture around government secrecy, classification standards, and the public's right to know. It also fueled persistent legal tension between conspiratorial narratives and evidentiary standards. As UFOs—now reframed as “unidentified anomalous phenomena” (UAPs)—have resurfaced in congressional hearings in recent years, Blue Book remains a touchstone for the limits of disclosure and the enduring gap between public curiosity and provable claims.Skepticism remains warranted: decades later, no clear evidence has emerged to support the claim of extraterrestrial contact—despite tens of thousands of pages released and re-litigated under FOIA.U.S. District Judge Brian Murphy in Boston expressed openness to again striking down a Trump policy that allows for the rapid deportation of migrants to third countries without meaningful notice or an opportunity to raise fears of persecution or torture. The case challenges Department of Homeland Security (DHS) policies that permit deportation to countries other than a migrant's country of origin, often with as little as six hours' notice. Judge Murphy had previously issued an injunction in April to halt such deportations, arguing they violated due process, but the Supreme Court paused that order in June via its “shadow docket” without providing detailed reasoning.Despite acknowledging the likely involvement of the Supreme Court again, Murphy indicated that he may still rule on the merits of the case, though any decision would likely be temporarily stayed. The lawsuit, a class action, targets a DHS memo from March and guidance from July that permits deportations based on “credible” diplomatic assurances. Plaintiffs argue these policies fall short of constitutional protections, while the Justice Department insists migrants already have opportunities to raise objections during proceedings. The judge criticized the lack of clarity from the Supreme Court's earlier intervention and emphasized the importance of due process in removal proceedings.US judge open to again striking down Trump policy on third-country deportations | ReutersA Trump-appointed federal appeals court judge has argued that constitutional rights do not extend to immigrants who entered the United States unlawfully, a position he laid out in a partial dissent in a Second Amendment case. Sixth Circuit Judge Amul Thapar agreed with upholding a federal ban on firearm possession by undocumented immigrants but rejected the majority's reasoning. Instead, he argued the case should have been resolved by declaring that only U.S. citizens are included in “the people” protected by the Constitution. Thapar relied heavily on the Constitution's preamble and an originalist reading of history, asserting that the Founders never intended constitutional protections to apply to non-citizens, especially those unlawfully present. The majority opinion rejected that framing, pointing to Supreme Court precedent recognizing that non-citizens who develop substantial connections to the country may invoke constitutional rights. Thapar went further, suggesting that even the First and Fourth Amendments were not originally meant to protect non-citizens. The case arose from a challenge by a Guatemalan national convicted of unlawfully possessing firearms, but Thapar's reasoning reached far beyond gun regulation. His dissent echoes arguments long advanced by the Trump administration and aligns with his status as a former Trump Supreme Court shortlist candidate. From my perspective, this is a racist, xenophobic, and profoundly ahistorical take that threatens to usher in a shameful new era of American jurisprudence. It reflects either a fundamental misunderstanding of constitutional law or a wanton, careerist obsequiousness to Trumpism, delivered with the unmistakable tone of someone auditioning for a Supreme Court seat while extolling the flavor of boot. Judge Thapar is an embarrassment to the bench.Judge Thapar's theory represents a fundamental shift away from the traditional understanding of constitutional rights as inherent and inalienable—that is, rights present in every individual that the government is bound to respect, not rights it doles out at its discretion. By asserting that non-citizens, especially those here unlawfully, are not part of “the people” and therefore not entitled to constitutional protections, Thapar effectively treats these rights as government-bestowed privileges rather than limits on state power–that should frighten citizens, as well. But if rights are inherent, as our legal tradition holds, and yet non-citizens don't possess them, the implication is clear: they are being denied not because of legal status, but because of a presumed inferiority. That's not a theory of constitutional law—it's a supremacist framework gussied up in originalist language.Trump-appointed judge argues US Constitution's rights do not extend to non-citizens | Reuters3-D animator Eric Ryder filed a copyright infringement lawsuit in California federal court against Disney and director James Cameron, alleging that the 2022 film Avatar: The Way of Water copied substantial elements from his science fiction story KRZ. Ryder claims he collaborated with Cameron's Lightstorm Entertainment in the late 1990s on developing a film based on KRZ, and that key features of Avatar 2—including anthropomorphic beings, a vast oceanic world, and an exploitative Earth corporation mining a moon called Europa—mirror those from his work.Ryder previously sued over the first Avatar film in 2011, but that case was dismissed when a California state court ruled Cameron had created Avatar before Ryder submitted his material. Ryder insists this new case is not an attempt to relitigate the past, but rather to address new alleged acts of copying specific to The Way of Water, such as the central plot point involving an animal-based substance that extends human life, which he says did not appear in the original Avatar.Ryder is seeking at least $500 million in damages and a court order to block the release of the upcoming Avatar 3: Fire and Ash. His lawyer described the alleged copying as “blatant and egregious.” Disney and Lightstorm have not yet commented publicly on the lawsuit.Disney, James Cameron sued for copyright infringement over ‘Avatar' | Reuters This is a public episode. Host Professor Robert Allison welcomes historian Paul D. Lockhart to discuss Lockhart's acclaimed book The Drillmaster of Valley Forge: The Baron de Steuben and the Making of the American Army. Together they explore the remarkable life and career of Baron de Steuben, the Prussian-born officer whose training, discipline, and organizational genius helped transform Washington's ragged Continental Army into a professional fighting force.Lockhart places Steuben in a broader European military and intellectual context, untangling the myths about his noble status and supposed “magnificent fraud,” and showing instead a serious soldier of the Enlightenment—well-read, imaginative, and deeply committed to his adopted country. The conversation ranges from Valley Forge and the famous “Blue Book” drill manual to Steuben's volatile temper, gift for friendship, chronic money troubles, complicated relationships with Washington, Congress, Lafayette, and Jefferson, and his lonely final years in upstate New York. Tiffany, now a $16 billion jewelry empire, opened their first store at 259 Broadway, New York, on 18th September, 1837. Their first day's sales total was $4.98. Co-founded by 25 year-old Charles Lewis Tiffany (thanks to a $1,000 loan from his father), the ‘fancy goods emporium' initially sold disparate luxury items including perfumes, dinner sets, and, er, dog whips - but eventually settled upon gems as their core offering, expanding the brand through collaborations with P. T. Barnum and ‘The Blue Book', America's first mail-order catalogue. In this episode, Arion, Rebecca and Olly reveal how, despite his business nous, Tiffany fell victim to the Great Diamond Hoax of 1872; explore how his design influence extends to the $1 bill and the New York Yankees' logo; and reveal how ‘robin egg' blue became so synonymous with the company.... The PSAT/NMSQT may not influence college admissions decisions, but the test matters in more ways than you might think. Amy and Mike invited educator and author Brian Stewart to discuss how and why to perform your best on the PSAT. What are five things you will learn in this episode? What role does the PSAT play compared to the SAT or ACT? What are some of the most common mistakes students make with the PSAT and how can they avoid them? What study strategies or prep resources are most effective for the PSAT? What are some ways students can effectively use the embedded Bluebook tools to do well on the PSAT? What kind of students should focus on the SAT and PSAT at the same time? MEET OUR GUEST At the end of his first year teaching Social Studies at Dublin Jerome High School, company founder Brian Stewart thought it would make sense to do some part-time tutoring work over the summer. After all, he had done quite well on standardized tests when he was in high school and really enjoyed coming up with creative ways to explain challenging concepts to students. Other companies charged a fortune and didn't seem to have a high-quality product. As Brian worked with more students, word spread about the quality of his tutoring services. He started to offer ACT and SAT test prep group classes, and worked with students from all over Central Ohio. In 2011, Brian left his day job to run BWS Education Consulting full time with his wife Caitlin. Applying the expertise from her Doctorate in Occupational Therapy, Caitlin has ensured that our teaching materials and methods make high-quality test preparation accessible to students of all backgrounds and ability levels. In 2012, Barron's Educational Series contacted Brian about submitting samples of his writing as they conducted a national search for their next ACT book author. Brian was chosen to write Barron's ACT, and has gone on to write several ACT, SAT, and PSAT books with Barron's Educational Series. His books have sold hundreds of thousands of copies worldwide. In 2014, BWS Education expanded to have associate tutors who teach not only the ACT and SAT, but tutor students in math, science, and writing. Brian and Caitlin personally interview and train every tutor on our staff to ensure they are the best in the business. BWS is a team of committed educators who relentlessly look for the best way to deliver educational enrichment to our clients, whether it's test prep, academic help, or college admission counseling. Brian appeared on the podcast in episode #33 to discuss PSAT and the National Merit Scholarship, in episode #383 to discuss Should You Prepare for the PSAT, in episode #507 to discuss The New Digital PSAT, and in episode #590 to discuss How To Prep For The Digital PSAT. The first two years of the 1970s seems to have been a slow period for UFO reports in the U.S. if the 1970 and 1971 UFO Chronology hosted on the National Investigations Committee on Aerial Phenomena website is any indication, with the 1970 chronology consisting of 5 pages, and the 1971 consisting of 8 pages. As a comparison, the 1966 chronology page count is 35 and the 1967 count is a massive 85. This might have been expected after the release of the Condon Report and the termination of Blue Book. There is a comment to this effect in the 1971 chronology: “An apparent lull in sighting reports may be the result of the closing of Project Blue Book and the media coverage of this for several years, and may not reflect the actual situation.” By 1973, things would pick up in the U.S. in a big way (35 pages in that chronology) with high-strangeness cases dominating the headlines. However, there seems to have been a head start on this in other parts of the world and the Aerial Phenomena Research Organization had people in place to investigate and report.
