Before joining Red Wing Shoe Company in 2001, Murphy spent 23 years in increasingly responsible positions at Minneapolis-based General Mills, a $12 billion global manufacturer and consumer foods marketer.   Dave is active in the local community, having served as Chairman of the Minnesota Public Radio and American Public Media Boards of Directors. In addition, he serves as Chairman of the Board for Wenger Corporation, a Board Member of Red Wing Shoe Company and Mortenson Construction. Dave has a bachelor's degree in Economics from Dartmouth College and an MBA degree from the Stanford Graduate School of Business.

Greg Huber, Project Manger for Climate Pledge Arena at Mortenson Construction joins us to give an update on the progress of the new home of the Kraken. As happens every time the new building is brought up, commenters on Facebook blast the plans while lamenting Chris Hansen's failed attempt at a SoDo arena. Move on. The Hansen building was never going to get built, and this building is world class. We've got an NHL team and everything is in place for an NBA team, hopefully in just a few years. Let it go! Since Shockey asked for them, texts weigh in with concerns. Dick Fain drops in before the afternoon show with Donald Watts.

Nate Black graduated in 2015. He has a construction management major and his first internship was for McColm Reality Supervising construction, a commercial warehouse in Lindon, Utah. Second internship Mortenson Construction – VDC internship supporting concrete and CMU lift drawings for several small projects in Denver, Colorado. Former ACMS member, participated in the competitions of ASC, BYU, UVU, and BYUI. After graduating, he got offered a job for Mortenson Construction. He had the opportunity to work on CSU football stadium, Saint Joseph Cancer Center Remodel, and currently working on a Facebook Data Center as a Sr. Integrated Construction Coordinator Data Center.

Ale has been dedicated to developing and implementing strategies to obtain projects, promoting diversity and inclusivity, community connections and continued support for minority companies and small businesses throughout Colorado.    On this week's show, Ale discusses what drew her to engineering, the importance of encouraging young girls to pursue their interests in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM), and the challenges and opportunities for construction dating back to 2008 and taking us through the current pandemic. From perusing old-fashioned blueprints to dealing with the COVID-19 crisis, Mortenson Construction’s Rich Bistodeau has pretty much done it all on a construction site. Now, after nearly 50 years with the company, he’s calling it a career. Bistodeau joined Mortenson in 1972 as a carpenter apprentice and rose through the ranks to become a superintendent. During that time, he worked on projects that include the Hennepin County Medical Center expansion in Minneapolis and other notable healthcare jobs. In the following interview, Bistodeau talks about what led him to a career in construction, how the industry has changed in the past 47 years, the increasing focus on safety, and his plans for retirement.

Mayor Westmoreland is joined by Joye Roberts, chair of Eagle Mountain City's senior citizen council, Colby Curtis, city council liaison to the senior council, and Vanessa Monsen with Mortenson Construction to discuss the senior council's efforts to provide a variety of programs and services to seniors in the community, as well as charitable activities organized by the seniors that benefit others. One of those activities is a partnership with Mortenson Construction to provide Thanksgiving baskets to families in need. Monsen also details other volunteer and charitable events in the city that Mortenson Construction has participated in since starting work on the Facebook data center project.

Boyer, Dean of the College, and Karen Warren Coleman, Vice President for Campus Life and Student Services, announced plans for a significant new facility at the University of Chicago. The internationally renowned firms Studio Gang Architects and Mortenson Construction are collaborating to build a new residence hall and dining commons on the north end of campus. This facility is tailored to the College’s distinctive House system, with an emphasis on building communities of learning. It creates a graceful new entrance into campus from the north, connecting the University to the broader neighborhood. Jeanne Gang, FAIA, principal and founder of Studio Gang Architects, unveiled conceptual designs and answered questions. Steve Wiesenthal, Associate Vice President for Facilities Services and University Architect, explained how the University chose the Studio Gang and Mortenson design.
