James Benham is no stranger to entrepreneurship—at 12 years old, when his dad wouldn't hire him to work at his plastics company, he started a lawnmower business with a loan from his dad. At 16, he got a job bussing restaurant tables, and in the early 90s he became a consultant, teaching people how to navigate the internet. At 21, he started his next venture—his own company. In the end, not getting a job at his dad's company—or control of his business—ended up being exactly what he needed to become who he is today. Without striking out on his own, he might never have created two businesses and learned customer service during his time working at a restaurant. Now, Benham is co-founder and CEO of JBKnowledge, the “insurance industry's leading specialty technology solutions provider." Today, he talks with Brilliant Thoughts host Tristan Ahumada about finding a mentor, innovating without burning out, listening to your customers and the importance of sticking to your values. Hello and welcome to the latest episode of the Leadership in Insurance Podcast where this week we are lucky enough to be joined by James Benham, CEO of JBKnowledge. We had a great conversation this week where we discussed a wide range of topics such as: How important do you think insurance domain knowledge is important to Insurtech businesses? Do we overplay the need for this experience when hiring? How smart compliance digitises and streamlines the compliance process As we move towards more open information sharing, how will compliance offering evolve? Do you think the general public would be surprised how manual this process is? Will the lack of industry wide collaboration hold this back? Will those who hold back their data be left behind? Does it surprise you that more investment hasn't been made with claims tech? How far can we go with claims tech? Is the ultimate goal to have full automation on as many classes of business as possible? Do you feel there are still certain circumstances where the “white glove” approach is better even if not faster? Will claims service be an added cost of insurance – could we go that far? How much is what you do fixing vs future building? How much do you see integrating new tech vs building tech?Thank you James for your time, it was great to speak to you! This Podcast was brought to you by FinPro, an executive recruitment business that works in the Insurance and Insurtech space. Our host in FinPro Director, Alex BondPlease like and subscribe if you enjoyed this podcast Our GDPR privacy policy was updated on August 8, 2022. James Benham is the host of the Contech Crew Podcast and is also the owner of JBKnowledge. We had the pleasure of sitting down and talking about implementing construction tech into your company. We also deep-dive into some 90's grunge.
