New research shows a sharp decline in college students identifying as transgender. Dr. Kathy Koch and Wayne Stender unpack what's behind the trend, why it's hopeful, and how parents can raise children anchored in God's truth instead of cultural confusion.
Young adults today are 1,600% more likely to identify as transgender than people over 50. Every family may not struggle with this issue—but every family will face it. Are you ready? In this critical episode of Refining Rhetoric, host Robert Bortins sits down with Dr. Jeff Myers, President of Summit Ministries and author of the new book Raising Gender Confident Kids, for an unflinching conversation about one of the most pressing challenges facing Christian families today. Dr. Myers reveals why gender ideology isn't just about elevating Pride Month—it's a calculated strategy to tear down the foundations of Western civilization and biblical worldview. What You'll Discover: Why 39% of young adults now identify as LGBTQ—and what's driving this dramatic shift The shocking reality of "transgender recruitment" happening in public schools (and some private schools) How gender ideology functions as an anti-Christ religion with its own evangelism and discipleship steps Age-appropriate conversation strategies for elementary, middle school, and high school students Why middle schoolers are being specifically targeted before they complete puberty How to help your child respond when they can't tell if someone is a boy or a girl The biological truth: 6,500 cataloged differences between males and females—and why they're designed to harmonize Why teaching "Imago Dei" (being made in God's image) is now mission-critical for every Christian family Dr. Myers doesn't sugarcoat the reality: this is a well-funded, strategic assault on the biblical understanding of humanity. But he also offers hope, practical tools, and a pathway for parents to raise children who are confident in God's good design—while showing Christ's love to a generation that's been tragically deceived. How do we raise kids who feel good in their own skin? In this heartfelt Whinypaluza Wednesday, Rebecca Greene is joined by her husband, Seth, and daughter, Ella, to dive into one of the most requested parenting topics: body confidence. Inspired by Ella's Teenage Tuesday column about putting the scale away, the Greenes open up about family conversations, role modeling, and practical ways to nurture positive body image. From learning to compliment character over looks, to breaking free from diet talk, to making movement fun instead of a chore—this episode is packed with real insights every parent can use. You'll hear stories, strategies, and even Ella's wisdom that “the least important thing about you is how you look.” This is more than parenting advice—it's a call to build homes where kids feel safe, supported, and celebrated for who they truly are. ⭐ Key Takeaways→ Kids mirror what we say about our own bodies.→ Replace diet talk with fueling and nourishing conversations.→ Compliment effort, kindness, and character more than looks.→ Movement should be fun, not punishment.→ Teach kids about filters and online image distortion.
Disappointment. Rejection. Failing to meet their goals. It's so tough to watch our kids struggle when they're feeling the discomfort of disappointment. I often call myself “a fixer in recovery that QUITE often relapses”. I have a joy agenda for the people I love. Sometimes my own discomfort over their discomfort leads to a relapse. I jump into full on fixer mode and forget that the growth mostly happens because of the messy human moments. Pain and uncertainty are as much a part of the human experience as success and happiness. It's called the Law of Polarity. Life involves both the good and the bad. What if the real goal of parenting is to help our kiddos build resilience, so they can handle the hard things without losing hope?My guest this time thinks so, and I think she's onto something huge. Dr. Kate Lund is an expert on how to build resilience in ourselves and our kids. Her experience of growing up in a supportive family helped her deal with a painful chronic illness. Now, she teaches parents how to model resilience and prepare kids to navigate the world with confidence.Something clicked while listening? We'd love to talk with you if you want to dig deeper into your family's specific situation. Have you ever wondered why modern parenting feels more challenging than ever before? In this eye-opening conversation with licensed family therapist Todd Sarner, we explore how parents can transform daily stress and disconnection into calm, confident leadership at home.Todd shares his profound insight that effective parenting starts with placing relationship first. Drawing from decades of experience helping thousands of families, he reveals that most parenting should be proactive rather than reactive—focusing on building strong connections, creating supportive environments, and developing crucial maturity processes in children. The discussion delves into three essential maturity processes children need to develop: integrative energy (the ability to weigh different perspectives), emergent energy (creativity and self-expression), and adaptive energy (processing frustration and change). Todd explains how technology and social media can interfere with these natural developmental processes, leaving children ill-equipped to handle life's inevitable challenges.Perhaps most powerfully, Todd emphasizes that "empathy does not mean you agree"—encouraging parents to take time understanding their child's experience before problem-solving. This simple shift in approach creates the connection children need to naturally want to cooperate. As he notes, "When we're connected and honoring the connection, you don't need to convince me to do stuff most of the time."With the rapid advancement of AI and technology presenting unprecedented challenges for families, Todd's attachment-first approach offers a refreshing perspective on what children truly need from parents that no technology can provide: genuine empathy, emotional regulation, and human connection.Tune in to transform your approach to parenting and discover how to create the calm, confident home environment your family deserves. In our conversation, Robyn shares insights from her book, including the concept of “secret ACEs,” the “trauma app” that can override our instincts, and the different subtypes of post-traumatic parenting. Are you clearing every obstacle out of your child's way? In this episode, Kyle and Sara Wester unpack snow plow parenting—why it happens, how it holds kids back, and what to do instead. Snow plow parenting is when parents try to remove every challenge or discomfort from their child's path. While it often comes from love and fear, this approach can unintentionally rob kids of the resilience, confidence, and problem-solving skills they need to thrive. Kyle and Sara share why parents fall into this trap, the long-term costs to children, and how to shift toward a healthier approach. You'll learn practical strategies for recognizing when you're “snow plowing,” scaffolding instead of rescuing, and coaching kids through life's challenges while still offering the support they need. Key Takeaways: Snow plow parenting means clearing obstacles to prevent failure or discomfort. While motivated by love, it can lead to anxiety and low confidence in kids.Children miss opportunities to build resilience and emotional intelligence when parents over-intervene.Recognizing when you're snow plowing is the first step to change.Coaching and scaffolding help children learn to solve problems at their own pace.Allowing small struggles is essential for long-term growth.Validating feelings—without rushing to fix—is a powerful parenting tool.Trusting children to handle challenges builds their confidence and independence. In this episode, Dr. Michael Easley welcomes back Dr. Jeff Myers—president of Summit Ministries and author of the new book Raising Gender-Confident Kids. They begin with a candid conversation about Israel's unique geopolitical role, the apocalyptic ideology driving Iran, and the rising anti-Israel sentiment among young Americans. Dr. Myers explains how misinformation, poor education, and Marxist ideology have shaped a generation that views Israel and America as colonial oppressors. The conversation then shifts to the troubling rise in gender confusion among children and young adults. Drawing from his book, Dr. Myers exposes the well-funded, ideologically driven agenda behind radical gender ideology, the manipulation of language, and the alarming influence of social media. He highlights how biblical truth, parental presence, and real conversations can bring clarity and hope. Takeaways Israel's conflict is deeply tied to Iran's apocalyptic ideology, not just geopolitics. Social media is the accelerant fueling unprecedented gender confusion among young people. The manipulation of language is intentional—designed to reshape worldviews and suppress dissent. Nearly 40% of American young adults now identify as LGBTQ, including 30% within the church. Public schools are actively indoctrinating children with gender ideology, often without parental knowledge. Biblical truth and parental love are essential to raising secure, gender-confident kids.
