In this episode I had the incredible opportunity to chat with yoga therapist and women's mentor, Sarah Horne, about how women's bodies function on a 28-day rhythm. It was enlightening to learn how embracing this natural cycle can impact our personal development, allowing us to harness the wisdom of self-care for mothers and others like us. Sometimes, striving for self-improvement can feel like trying to fit a square peg into a round hole, especially when we ignore our bodies' natural rhythms. Sarah emphasizes the power of slowing down, a vital antidote to the perfectionism many of us face, showing us how this self-compassion can lead to a richer, more balanced life. Let's learn how to listen to our bodies, allowing personal growth and development to flow more naturally. Sign up as a Supporter to get access to our private, premium, ad-free podcast, More Personal. In this episode I'm exploring why self-care for mothers often feels like an impossible task. It's not a lack of self-compassion or personal development that's to blame, but the invisible labor—those daily habits and tasks that women silently shoulder. This understanding is crucial for self-improvement; it helps us identify how to stop being a perfectionist trying to manage everything perfectly. To truly embrace self care, and to feel happy in our lives, we need to share these responsibilities, allowing us the space for growth and fulfillment. I used to think that a true "habit person" had the perfect routine lined up every day without a hitch, but that's not reality. Life is unpredictable, and being flexible is crucial. From rethinking my morning routine with five kids in different schools to embracing the early wake-up calls from my toddler, alterations are unavoidable. It's a reminder that being a habit person is more about adaptability than rigid schedules. By learning to honor the needs of each day—whether that's managing unexpected changes or giving grace to myself—I discovered that progress isn't about having it all together. Instead, it's about continually adjusting and finding what works in the moment, recognizing that everyone has to revamp routines as life shifts. In a conversation that originally aired on my private podcast feed, I spoke with my podcast manager, Taylor, about our personal experiences with multi-level marketing (MLM) companies. We delved into the icky factor of being approached by acquaintances with business propositions and the wider implications of these ventures. While these experiences did provide some social benefits and occasional income, they also left a cringey aftertaste. Despite the mixed feelings, I don't regret my forays into MLMs. They taught me a lot about sales, personal value, and authenticity. I've grown since then, understanding the importance of being true to myself and my audience. If you're curious to learn more about this subject make sure to check out my most recent deep dive!
