So Much More: Creating Space for God (Lectio Divina and Scripture Meditation)
This guided Christian meditation in 1 Samuel will give you space to remember how God sees you, regardless of how you view yourself. Get your FREE Peace, Be Still Guided Meditation Journal here. Rejection not only stings, but it also lingers. Rejection threatens to identify us as unworthy or unwanted, which can create anxiety and fear. If we truly start to believe these lies, then we'll shrink back, cease, and get small. We stop being who God created us to be. King David may have been one of the greatest kings who ever lived, but he had to overcome being overlooked. In this meditation, we will remember that God looks at our hearts. If you're fearful or anxious because you feel rejected, this week's mediation will encourage you to remember … God sees your heart. God sees the very best of you. God sees who he made you to be. God sees you covered in the righteousness of Christ. Get your FREE Peace, Be Still Guided Meditation Journal here. The whole meditation text is as follows: 1 Sam 16:6-12, NLT 6 When (Jesse and his sons) arrived, Samuel took one look at Eliab (the oldest son) and thought, “Surely this is the Lord's anointed!” 7 But the Lord said to Samuel, “Don't judge by his appearance or height, for I have rejected him. The Lord doesn't see things the way you see them. People judge by outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.” 8 Then Jesse told his son Abinadab to step forward and walk in front of Samuel. But Samuel said, “This is not the one the Lord has chosen.” 9 Next Jesse summoned Shimea, but Samuel said, “Neither is this the one the Lord has chosen.” 10 In the same way all seven of Jesse's sons were presented to Samuel. But Samuel said to Jesse, “The Lord has not chosen any of these.” 11 Then Samuel asked, “Are these all the sons you have?” “There is still the youngest,” Jesse replied. “But he's out in the fields watching the sheep and goats.” “Send for him at once,” Samuel said. “We will not sit down to eat until he arrives.” 12 So Jesse sent for him. He was dark and handsome, with beautiful eyes. And the Lord said, “This is the one; anoint him.” Discover more Christian podcasts at lifeaudio.com and inquire about advertising opportunities at lifeaudio.com/contact-us.
Gods Anointed - 1 Samuel 16:1-13Now the Lord said to Samuel, “How long are you going to mourn for Saul, since I have rejected him from being king over Israel? Fill your horn with oil and go; I will send you to Jesse the Bethlehemite, because I have chosen a king for Myself among his sons.” But Samuel said, “How can I go? When Saul hears about it, he will kill me.” But the Lord said, “Take a heifer with you and say, ‘I have come to sacrifice to the Lord.' And you shall invite Jesse to the sacrifice, and I will let you know what you shall do; and you shall anoint for Me the one whom I designate to you.” So Samuel did what the Lord told him, and he came to Bethlehem. Then the elders of the city came trembling to meet him and said, “Do you come in peace?” And he said, “In peace; I have come to sacrifice to the Lord. Consecrate yourselves and come with me to the sacrifice.” He also consecrated Jesse and his sons and invited them to the sacrifice. When they entered, he looked at Eliab and thought, “Surely the Lord's anointed is standing before Him.” But the Lord said to Samuel, “Do not look at his appearance or at the height of his stature, because I have rejected him; for God does not see as man sees, since man looks at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.” Then Jesse called Abinadab and had him pass before Samuel. But he said, “The Lord has not chosen this one, either.” Next Jesse had Shammah pass by. And he said, “The Lord has not chosen this one, either.” So Jesse had seven of his sons pass before Samuel. But Samuel said to Jesse, “The Lord has not chosen these.” Then Samuel said to Jesse, “Are these all the boys?” And he said, “The youngest is still left, but behold, he is tending the sheep.” So Samuel said to Jesse, “Send word and bring him; for we will not take our places at the table until he comes here.”So he sent word and brought him in. Now he was reddish, with beautiful eyes and a handsome appearance. And the Lord said, “Arise, anoint him; for this is he.” So Samuel took the horn of oil and anointed him in the midst of his brothers; and the Spirit of the Lord rushed upon David from that day forward. And Samuel set out and went to Ramah.Bible Verse:https://tinyurl.com/y6runeyuVisit us on all our social media platforms:https://linktr.ee/sovereignkingchurchListen on the go on your favorite podcast service:Apple - https://tinyurl.com/uxw3awb6Google - https://tinyurl.com/mzmza4fv

And the Spirit of the LORD came powerfully upon David from that day on. Then Samuel returned to Ramah. 1 Samuel 16 NLT read aloud by Simon MacFarlane. 1 Now the Lord said to Samuel, “You have mourned long enough for Saul. I have rejected him as king of Israel, so fill your flask with olive oil and go to Bethlehem. Find a man named Jesse who lives there, for I have selected one of his sons to be my king.” 2 But Samuel asked, “How can I do that? If Saul hears about it, he will kill me.” “Take a heifer with you,” the Lord replied, “and say that you have come to make a sacrifice to the Lord. 3 Invite Jesse to the sacrifice, and I will show you which of his sons to anoint for me.” 4 So Samuel did as the Lord instructed. When he arrived at Bethlehem, the elders of the town came trembling to meet him. “What's wrong?” they asked. “Do you come in peace?” 5 “Yes,” Samuel replied. “I have come to sacrifice to the Lord. Purify yourselves and come with me to the sacrifice.” Then Samuel performed the purification rite for Jesse and his sons and invited them to the sacrifice, too. 6 When they arrived, Samuel took one look at Eliab and thought, “Surely this is the Lord's anointed!” 7 But the Lord said to Samuel, “Don't judge by his appearance or height, for I have rejected him. The Lord doesn't see things the way you see them. People judge by outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.” 8 Then Jesse told his son Abinadab to step forward and walk in front of Samuel. And the Spirit of the Lord came powerfully upon David from that day on. Then Samuel returned to Ramah. 14 Now the Spirit of the Lord had left Saul, and the Lord sent a tormenting spirit that filled him with depression and fear. 15 Some of Saul's servants said to him, “A tormenting spirit from God is troubling you. 16 Let us find a good musician to play the harp whenever the tormenting spirit troubles you. He will play soothing music, and you will soon be well again.” 17 “All right,” Saul said. “Find me someone who plays well, and bring him here.” 18 One of the servants said to Saul, “One of Jesse's sons from Bethlehem is a talented harp player. Not only that—he is a brave warrior, a man of war, and has good judgment. He is also a fine-looking young man, and the Lord is with him.” 19 So Saul sent messengers to Jesse to say, “Send me your son David, the shepherd.” 20 Jesse responded by sending David to Saul, along with a young goat, a donkey loaded with bread, and a wineskin full of wine. 21 So David went to Saul and began serving him. Saul loved David very much, and David became his armor bearer. [...]
Eno and DVR discuss the value provided (or lack thereof) from the top-end closers in the pool so far this season, and whether that might lead to a less aggressive draft market toward the saves category in 2023. Plus, they consider what would go into a calculation that better quantifies risk, expectations for a few pitchers making late-season returns from injury, and candidates to be the 'next Jesse Winker'. Closing in on 90 with his fastball, Jesse has a filthy changeup and some other great secondary offerings and that ability to throw it by batters AND keep them off balance AND thrive in pressure situations makes him someone to watch carefully headed into his senior year and beyond as he prepares for future BIG EAST battles. So this week we are praying God uses the mistakes we make to propel our kids into the future He has for them. We are also asking God to give us opportunities to clear the air and bring forgiveness into those hurting places in our kids' hearts. ACTION STEPS: 1) Pray for opportunities with your kids to have real conversations about things you have done to hurt them in some way. If your kids are old enough, ask them... What is something I have done you would consider a parenting fail? 2) Have hard age-appropriate conversations with your kids about mistakes you have made and ask them for forgiveness. Model this next time you make a mistake too. 3) Don't take their response personally, even though it can be tough not to. We all make mistakes. Your kids want you to acknowledge the mistake so they can move past it. 4) Listen this week to Prayers From a Mom Podcast and join me in praying for this each day. FOCUSED PRAYER: Father, I am grateful that you are bigger than any mistakes I make with my kids. Help me forgive myself for the mistakes I have made. Show me things I have done that have caused heartache for my kids and help me restore what was broken. Give me opportunities to have hard conversations with them that will bring healing to areas they have been bottling up. Lord I have read about so many imperfect people you used to do incredible things for the kingdom of God and I know you will do the same for me and my children. Help me get over my pride and fixed authoritarian mindset to give my kids the love and grace they need. In Jesus Name, Amen! SCRIPTURES TO PRAY THIS WEEK: Genesis 3:6-7 6 The woman was convinced. She saw that the tree was beautiful and its fruit looked delicious, and she wanted the wisdom it would give her. So she took some of the fruit and ate it. Then she gave some to her husband, who was with her, and he ate it, too. 7 At that moment their eyes were opened, and they suddenly felt shame at their nakedness. So they sewed fig leaves together to cover themselves. Genesis 16:1-3 1 Now Sarai, Abram's wife, had not been able to bear children for him. But she had an Egyptian servant named Hagar. 2 So Sarai said to Abram, “The Lord has prevented me from having children. Go and sleep with my servant. Perhaps I can have children through her.” And Abram agreed with Sarai's proposal. 3 So Sarai, Abram's wife, took Hagar the Egyptian servant and gave her to Abram as a wife. (This happened ten years after Abram had settled in the land of Canaan.) Genesis 18:13-15 13 Then the Lord said to Abraham, “Why did Sarah laugh? Why did she say, ‘Can an old woman like me have a baby?' 14 Is anything too hard for the Lord? I will return about this time next year, and Sarah will have a son.” 15 Sarah was afraid, so she denied it, saying, “I didn't laugh.” But the Lord said, “No, you did laugh.” Genesis 19:16-17, 23-26 16 When Lot still hesitated, the angels seized his hand and the hands of his wife and two daughters and rushed them to safety outside the city, for the Lord was merciful. 17 When they were safely out of the city, one of the angels ordered, “Run for your lives! And don't look back or stop anywhere in the valley! Escape to the mountains, or you will be swept away!” 23 Lot reached the village just as the sun was rising over the horizon. 24 Then the Lord rained down fire and burning sulfur from the sky on Sodom and Gomorrah. 25 He utterly destroyed them, along with the other cities and villages of the plain, wiping out all the people and every bit of vegetation. 26 But Lot's wife looked back as she was following behind him, and she turned into a pillar of salt. Genesis 37:3-4 3 Jacob loved Joseph more than any of his other children because Joseph had been born to him in his old age. So one day Jacob had a special gift made for Joseph—a beautiful robe. 4 But his brothers hated Joseph because their father loved him more than the rest of them. They couldn't say a kind word to him. 1 Samuel 16:8-11 8 Then Jesse told his son Abinadab to step forward and walk in front of Samuel. We were misled and became slaves to many lusts and pleasures. Our lives were full of evil and envy, and we hated each other. 4 But—When God our Savior revealed his kindness and love, 5 he saved us, not because of the righteous things we had done, but because of his mercy. He washed away our sins, giving us a new birth and new life through the Holy Spirit. 6 He generously poured out the Spirit upon us through Jesus Christ our Savior. 7 Because of his grace he made us right in his sight and gave us confidence that we will inherit eternal life. “But he's out in the fields watching the sheep and goats.” Titus 3:4-7 3 Once we, too, were foolish and disobedient. “He Saw The Best in Me” Scripture: 1 Samuel 16:1, 6-13 1 God addressed Samuel: “So, how long are you going to mope over Saul? You know I’ve rejected him as king over Israel. Fill your flask with anointing oil and get going. I’m sending you to Jesse of Bethlehem. I’ve spotted the very king I want among his sons.” 6 When they arrived, Samuel took one look at Eliab and thought, “Here he is! God’s anointed!” 7 But God told Samuel, “Looks aren’t everything. Don’t be impressed with his looks and stature. I’ve already eliminated him. God judges persons differently than humans do. Men and women look at the face; God looks into the heart.” 8 Jesse then called up Abinadab and presented him to Samuel. Samuel said, “This man isn’t God’s choice either.” 9 Next Jesse presented Shammah. Samuel said, “No, this man isn’t either.” 10 Jesse presented his seven sons to Samuel. Samuel was blunt with Jesse, “God hasn’t chosen any of these.” 11 Then he asked Jesse, “Is this it? Are there no more sons?” “Well, yes, there’s the runt. But he’s out tending the sheep.” Samuel ordered Jesse, “Go get him. We’re not moving from this spot until he’s here.” 12 Jesse sent for him. He was brought in, the very picture of health—bright-eyed, good-looking. God said, “Up on your feet! Anoint him! This is the one.” 13 Samuel took his flask of oil and anointed him, with his brothers standing around watching. The Spirit of God entered David like a rush of wind, God vitally empowering him for the rest of his life. God sets the mark! God is setting the criteria God is looking for you! Verse 11 The Samuel asked Jesse, “is that all of your boys?” The plan has you in it The confirmation!

od's plan isn't a snap and upload destiny, but a destiny developed through His process. The process reveals the vision the photographer had when he captured the photo in the first place. When your life is captured by Christ, you realize His vision by trusting His process. Now the Lord said to Samuel, “You have mourned long enough for Saul. 3 Invite Jesse to the sacrifice, and I will show you which of his sons to anoint for me.”4 So Samuel did as the Lord instructed. When he arrived at Bethlehem, the elders of the town came trembling to meet him. “What's wrong?” they asked. “Do you come in peace?” 5 “Yes,” Samuel replied. “I have come to sacrifice to the Lord. Purify yourselves and come with me to the sacrifice.” Then Samuel performed the purification rite for Jesse and his sons and invited them to the sacrifice, too.6 When they arrived, Samuel took one look at Eliab and thought, “Surely this is the Lord's anointed!” 7 But the Lord said to Samuel, “Don't judge by his appearance or height, for I have rejected him. The Lord doesn't see things the way you see them. People judge by outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.”8 Then Jesse told his son Abinadab to step forward and walk in front of Samuel. But Samuel said, “This is not the one the Lord has chosen.” 9 Next Jesse summoned Shimea,[a] but Samuel said, “Neither is this the one the Lord has chosen.” 10 In the same way all seven of Jesse's sons were presented to Samuel. But Samuel said to Jesse, “The Lord has not chosen any of these.” 11 Then Samuel asked, “Are these all the sons you have?”“There is still the youngest,” Jesse replied. “But he's out in the fields watching the sheep and goats.”“Send for him at once,” Samuel said. “We will not sit down to eat until he arrives.”12 So Jesse sent for him. He was dark and handsome, with beautiful eyes. And the Lord said, “This is the one; anoint him.”13 So as David stood there among his brothers, Samuel took the flask of olive oil he had brought and anointed David with the oil. And the Spirit of the Lord came powerfully upon David from that day on.Your Future has a past…. And that past is the processWe don't need to be discovered, we need to be developed. You watched me as I was being formed in utter seclusion, as I was woven together in the dark of the womb. You saw me before I was born. Every day of my life was recorded in your book. Every moment was laid out before a single day had passed. Psalms 139:15-16 NLTThe amount you're willing to let God do in you is the amount God will be able to do through you.God is not worried about our outward appearance or performance, He looks at the heart. We all have issues, but the real issue is when we don't bring our issues to God.Gods presence in our lives is cultivated in the darkroom and its the only thing that will ever truly satisfy us.
