Town in Herefordshire, England
POPULARITY
Recorded on steamy summer's evening in the John Abel Room of Grange Court, welcome to Three Ravens Live @ Leominster Festival! While Hereford might try to steal all the glory - literally in some cases - "Lemster" was just as grand a place in the Medieval era, famed most of all as a market town rich in wool. This recording, made on Thursday 11th, explores that historic rivalry, along with the tale of Jenny Pipes, the last English woman sentenced to the ducking stool, demon dogs such as the Hound of Hergest, a diverse range of ghosts including a seven foot big boy, Herefordshire's history of helpful witches, and a very large Civil War siege engine called 'The Sow.' From the county's legacy in apple growing and cider making to the haunted doll kept not too far away from a church bell stolen by a mermaid, there's so much to talk about - and that's not mentioning Eleanor's performance of local legend The Dragon of Mordiford!A Q&A session with our live audience follows, in which we end up telling yet more stories, including one in which we ourselves were haunted, we hope you enjoy the episode, and heartily encourage everybody to visit Leominster!Speak to you again on Monday for the penultimate episode of our Bonus Series Forgotten Melodies, all about Nature Songs, featuring new versions of The North County Maid, Wild Mountain Thyme, and The Tree Song by us!Three Ravens is an English myth and folklore podcast hosted by Eleanor Conlon and Martin Vaux.Released on Mondays, each weekly episode focuses on one of England or Wales' 39 historic counties, exploring the history, folklore and traditions of the area, from ghosts and mermaids to mythical monsters, half-forgotten heroes, bloody legends, and much, much more. Then, and most importantly, the pair take turns to tell a new version of a traditional story from that county - all before discussing what that tale might mean, where it might have come from, and the truths it reveals about England's hidden past...Bonus Episodes are released on Thursdays plus Local Legends episodes - interviews with acclaimed authors, folklorists, podcasters and historians with unique perspectives on that week's county - and Live Shows come out on Saturdays. With a range of exclusive content on Patreon too, including audio ghost tours, the Three Ravens Newsletter, and monthly Three Ravens Film Club episodes about folk horror films from across the decades, why not join us around the campfire and listen in?REGISTER FOR THE TALES OF SOUTHERN ENGLAND TOURVisit our website Join our Patreon Social media channels and sponsors Hosted on Acast. (00:00 - 4:52) It's Thursday, it's also Bob's Birthday! Are you cooler now or back in high school. Bob was called cool by his daughter's boss; LBF wanted to know the tone of how it was said. LBF also says she was lame back in high school. (4:52 - 10:50) Today's DM Disaster is from Colin. His friends still to this day after 20 years still roast a friend named Kevin who bombed on stage doing a college stand up. Colin will never forget it that night and never let his friend forget either. That's Colin's DM Disaster! (10:50 - 17:36) The Real Housewives of Rhode Island have some odd stuff going on and Bob and LBF are shocked! The situation is less “love triangle” and more “please redraw the entire diagram.” A sister, a husband, a long history of awkward connections, and now some truly questionable baby-adjacent talks have entered the chat.(17:36 - 21:40) Today's Supah Smaht player is Sarah from Leominster. Find out if they were Supah Smaht. (21:40 - 25:56) A mother on Instagram is going viral for explaining how her daughter has CAR RANCH. She just gets extra packets when she's at a fast-food place, and is totally cool eating it, even if it's been in her car for months. LBF loves this and so does Bob. (25:56 -29:43) Americans are out here scheduling their lives so tightly that “fun” has become a luxury item. (29:43 - 36:19) Your cute little photo habit might not be so cute anymore. Experts say high-res phone cameras could accidentally capture way more detail than you think, especially in close-up shots. All this and more on the ROR Morning Show with Bob and LBF Podcast. He's live from San Fransico on radio row! He gives us the scene at the big game! He's taking the Patriots to win the whole thing! (7:34 - 15:27) Today's DM Disaster is from Danny! He has the oddest rule ever and it's ruining his life, but he won't change it. When he goes to restaurants, he gives the waitstaff 8 minutes after he gets his drink to take his order. If the time runs out, he just leaves. He did this on a date and ruined the entire vibe. That's Danny's DM Disaster! (15:27 - 21:39) Are you a talker or do you keep it quite when driving in an Uber. Bob thinks being quite isn't a polite thing; he actually became friends with his Uber driver after talking with him. LBF thinks it's nuts to talk to them and keeps it hushed! (21:39 - 25:25) Today's Supah Smaht player is Erica from Leominster. Find out if they were Supah Smaht! (25:25 - 30:58) Minute Maid frozen juices are going away; LBF is not taking this news lightly. As one of the fantasy genre's most successful authors, R.A. Salvatore enjoys an ever-expanding and tremendously loyal following. His books regularly appear on The New York Times best-seller lists and have sold more than 30,000,000 copies. Salvatore's most recent original hardcover, The Two Swords, Book III of The Hunter's Blade Trilogy (October 2004) debuted at # 1 on The Wall Street Journal best-seller list and at # 4 on The New York Times best-seller list. His books have been translated into numerous foreign languages including German, Italian, Finnish, Greek, Hungarian, Turkish, Croatian, Bulgarian, Yiddish, Spanish, Russian, Polish, Czech, and French. Salvatore's first published novel, The Crystal Shard from TSR in 1988, became the first volume of the acclaimed Icewind Dale Trilogy and introduced an enormously popular character, the dark elf Drizzt Do'Urden. Since that time, Salvatore has published numerous novels for each of his signature multi-volume series including The Dark Elf Trilogy, Paths of Darkness, The Hunter's Blades Trilogy, and The Cleric Quintet. His love affair with fantasy, and with literature in general, began during his sophomore year of college when he was given a copy of J.R.R. Tolkien's The Lord of the Rings as a Christmas gift. He promptly changed his major from computer science to journalism. He received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Communications from Fitchburg State College in 1981, then returned for the degree he always cherished, the Bachelor of Arts in English. He began writing seriously in 1982, penning the manuscript that would become Echoes of the Fourth Magic. Salvatore held many jobs during those first years as a writer, finally settling in (much to our delight) to write full time in 1990. The R.A. Salvatore Collection has been established at his alma mater, Fitchburg State College in Fitchburg, Massachusetts, containing the writer's letters, manuscripts, and other professional papers. He is in good company, as The Salvatore Collection is situated alongside The Robert Cormier Library, which celebrates the writing career of the co-alum and esteemed author of young adult books. Salvatore is an active member of his community and is on the board of trustees at the local library in Leominster, Massachusetts. He has participated in several American Library Association regional conferences, giving talks on themes including "Adventure fantasy" and "Why young adults read fantasy." Salvatore himself enjoys a broad range of literary writers including James Joyce, Mark Twain, Geoffrey Chaucer, Shakespeare, Dante, and Sartre. He counts among his favorite genre literary influences Ian Fleming, Arthur Conan Doyle, Fritz Leiber, and of course, J.R.R. Tolkien. Born in 1959, Salvatore is a native of Massachusetts and resides there with his wife Diane, and their three children, Bryan, Geno, and Caitlin. The family pets include three Japanese Chins, Oliver, Artemis and Ivan, and four cats including Guenhwyvar. When he isn't writing, Salvatore chases after his three Japanese Chins, takes long walks, hits the gym, and coaches/plays on a fun-league softball team that includes most of his family. His gaming group still meets on Sundays to play.

These are two interviews you won't want to miss. First, Howie welcomes Sam Whiting from the Massachusetts Family Institute to share the latest horror out of the public school system, this time in Leominster. Then, Robert Bastille joins the show to update local listeners on crime on Cape Cod. Funny, the uptick in illegal aliens has correlated with an uptick in crime.
Join us as we explore the Massachusetts Monsterland. Just outside the the town of Leominster not so far from the city of Boston lay a miles long stretch of forest known to locals as Monsterland. From Big Foot to Orbs to UFO's, Monsterland has it all. Listen in to learn more.
Welcome to New England Legends From the Vault – FtV Episode 31 – Jeff Belanger and Ray Auger head to Leominster, Massachusetts, in search of Joseph Palmer and Silas Lampson, two men who were persecuted and even jailed for wearing a beard in the 1830s. Though they were both devout Christians, they were attacked, mocked, and even accused of being in league with the devil, all for sporting facial hair. Though both men would live to see the times change, these non-conformists suffered due to the ugliest and most judgmental aspects to society! This episode first aired March 18, 2021. As Mass slowly but surely becomes a hub for Hip-Hop, we always like to reach out to other towns outside of Boston for what sounds and feels right. Shout out to Brandon "Bedlam" Matthews of Killer Boombox/Showoff Marketing for this heads up because without him and what he's been putting together on Pearl Street, I'm not sure if we would have been hip to this artist right here. We're talking the Central Mass raised, ex athlete, Shugg! We were first introduced to bro at a listening party he had at Bedlam's space in the Seaport and have been following him since. Shortly thereafter he dropped a project called "Trap>Rap" that we took a liking too and wanted to hear more of his story!Join Charlie MaSheen, KASH, & Gina Rodriguez as they sit down with the Leominster bred artist Shugg and go about his upbringing, his music, a very INTERESTING occurrence in Miami, & SO MUCH MORE! Also be sure to check out his #RedCupsAndRap freestyle thats also on our YouTube channel! TAP INNNNNN‼️‼️CHECK OUT ALL OF OUR CONTENT:http://www.linktr.ee/CWTFBradio
We talked to WBZ-TV's Nick Giovanni about the terrible flooding that happened in Leominster and the aftermath it's residents are facing.
Sen. Sonia Chang-Diaz and former Gov. Jane Swift joined for a politics panel. Then, we opened the phone lines to ask listeners whether they think companies are losing productivity by letting employees work remotely on Mondays. Steven Pifer, former ambassador to Ukraine & senior fellow at Brookings, explained the Wagner Group rebellion in Russia and Ukraine's counteroffensive. Jared Bowen joined for an arts segment: Guadalupe Maravilla at the ICA, Evita at the A.R.T. and free admissions at the Harvard Art Museums. Michael Curry discussed the closure of a maternity ward in Leominster and a new report that ranks Massachusetts as best in the nation for its overall healthcare system. Corby Kummer discussed cell-cultivated chicken being approved for sale in the U.S. and the restaurants trying to use other people's food waste in their own menus. We continued the lab meat discussion and asked listeners to call in: would they eat “cell-cultured” meat for environmental or ethical reasons?
