By Bart Bornhorst - God has given us a most valuable gift! Part of the value of God's gift to us, involves our eternal life with Him, and our Savior Jesus Christ. However, God's precious gift to us is also about the value of what God has given us, in this life right now. Let's see the full value of God's gift to His
The Pearl of Great Price is a collection of significant writings that illuminate key aspects of the faith and doctrine of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, all translated and compiled by the Prophet Joseph Smith. First published in 1851 and established as a standard work by 1880, this volume includes materials that were initially shared in church periodicals, showcasing the foundational beliefs of the faith. The enduring nature of these teachings continues to resonate with listeners today, offering insight into the principles that guide the lives of many. The 1920 edition serves as a testament to the lasting influence of Smith's work, making it a vital resource for understanding the rich tapestry of Latter-day Saint theology.

Join us this week as we meditate on the word from Matthew 13, where the kingdom of heaven is like a treasure in a field that a man joyfully sells everything to buy, or a merchant who sells all for one pearl of great value. This treasure is of immeasurable worth yet hidden when we seek lesser things, growing gradually alongside the world until the final separation of good from evil. Anyone can discover it, whether by stumbling like the day laborer or seeking like the merchant, and buying it means joyfully transferring allegiance from self and possessions to King Jesus. Jesus sold all for the joy of claiming us as His treasure. Those trained for the kingdom bring out and share its new and old riches. What will you release to possess this greater treasure? During the year, at our Men's Group, we have been reading a book called “The Power of Purpose” by Richard Leider, and in it he tries to articulate what it is that gives us meaning and purpose in our life. In this book in particular, he says that once we find this purpose, in relation to the world's needs, and that it is a dynamic process. I think that insight is very powerful. It is a process that we come to, and we know when we get there. We have this aha moment.Read More
17th Sunday in Ordinary Time Today's Gospel reminds us that God's kingdom is not a life free from suffering, but the certainty that God can bring good out of every hardship. Like the merchant who joyfully sold everything for the pearl of great price, we are invited to rediscover the incomparable treasure of Jesus Christ and His Church. Even though the Church is made up of saints and sinners in a broken world, its true worth never diminishes because Christ remains present in the Eucharist, His Word, and the sacraments. This week, reflect on two simple questions: Do I truly recognize Jesus as my greatest treasure? And have I grown so familiar with that gift that I've forgotten its wonder? Ask God for the grace to see the pearl of great price with fresh eyes once again.

When God asked Solomon what he wanted to ask for, Solomon replied that he desired wisdom. In our world today, it seems hardly unlikely that if we were offered the same opportunity by God that we would ask for such a gift instead of worldly acclaim and riches. That is why we, too, should pray for wisdom in order that we might seek and find the pearl of great price in our lives.

What could be worth giving up everything you own? In today's episode of the MY Devotional Podcast, Dr. Michael Youssef explores Jesus' parable of the merchant who finds one pearl of great value and sells everything to buy it (Matthew 13:45–46). To grasp the weight of this illustration, Dr. Youssef highlights why pearls were considered the most precious commodity in Jesus' day: they were rare, dangerous to obtain, and priceless to possess. Then comes the deeper meaning: the pearl of great worth is the Lord Jesus Christ—the only Savior who suffered, bled, and died on the cross, then rose again so forgiveness and eternal life could be offered to all who believe. No achievement, possession, or security compares to Him. In Christ, you find what the world can never provide: peace of mind, true identity, lasting security, and rest for your soul. This devotional calls you to examine what you're valuing most—and to respond to Jesus not with partial devotion, but wholehearted surrender. Prayer: Father, thank You for Jesus Christ, the pearl of great price. May my life reflect Christ to this world. I pray in the name of Jesus. Amen. Today's MY Devotional has been provided by Leading The Way. The voice you hear on the MY Devotional podcast is digitally generated with Dr. Youssef's permission. If today's devotional stirred a question, burden, or need for prayer, you don't have to walk through it alone.

In the ancient world… pearls were incredibly valuable. In fact… pearls were often considered more precious than gold. Kings and queens desired them. And many people throughout the world… sought after them… because they were symbols of wealth… and beauty. And merchants… dealing in pearls… would travel far and wide…across seas… and deserts… looking for the finest pearls… the world had to offer! Now what we have here…is a story of a priceless pearl. A merchant man…who loves pearls…travels the world around…and then he finds that One…Great…Priceless…Precious …Pearl. And this man sells everything He HAS…in order to buy that One…Great…Priceless…Precious… Pearl! And Jesus said, "This is a parable…of the Kingdom…of Heaven!"
In this episode, Stephen Smoot talks about his new study edition of the Pearl of Great Price, published by Scripture Central and the Interpreter Foundation. In this stirring message, Pr Kenneth unpacks the beautiful Kingdom truth behind “The Pearl of Great Price” from Matthew 13:45–46. Jesus describes a merchant who discovers a pearl so valuable that he sells everything to possess it — revealing how priceless God's work in us truly is.Pr Kenneth connects this parable to a powerful life illustration: pearls don't form without an irritant. An oyster only produces a pearl when something uncomfortable, painful, or foreign gets inside — and over time, that irritation becomes the very thing that draws out something precious. In the same way, the “irritants” in our lives — pressures, trials, disappointments, and challenges — are often the hidden instruments God uses to shape maturity, character, and spiritual value within us.This message will help you see your struggles differently: not as pointless pain, but as God's process of producing treasure in you. What irritates you today may be what God is using to form your pearl of great price tomorrow.

Jesus compares His eternal bride to a “pearl of great price.” This is one of the great mysteries of the kingdom of God. A pearl is encased in an oyster shell, which frankly is one of the ugliest shells in the sea. Yet it contains a sought-after jewel of great beauty and value.
