What if Jesus is closer than you think—just quieter than you expected? In this episode, Scott and Deb talk about finding Him not in dramatic miracles, but in ordinary moments: a routine appointment, a calm where there used to be chaos, a sunrise we almost overlook. If you've ever mistaken stillness for distance from God, this conversation will help you see His steady presence in everyday life.

The walk to Emmaus provides a powerful template for how we encounter the resurrected Christ in the midst of our own ordinary, and often discouraged, journeys. As Cleopas and his companion walked away from Jerusalem, trapped in the "we had hoped" stage of grief, Jesus met them in the mundane rhythm of their commute, proving that He is never absent even when our eyes are too heavy with sorrow to recognize Him. Through the dual "shorthands" of Scripture—where He traces the messianic promise from Moses through the Prophets—and the "breaking of the bread," He reveals that the Cross was the centerpiece of God's plan rather than a tragic detour. This encounter teaches us that our "burning hearts" are a spiritual signal of His presence, urging us to look for Him not just in the sanctuary, but in every conversation, every meal, and every mile of our daily lives.Shameless plug: here's a link to Method(ist) to the Madness, our new, hopefully entertaining podcast about church history. - https://methodisttothemadness.buzzsprout.com/Join us for our daily reflections with Andy. What are you looking for when you look at the night sky?In this Christmas Eve message, we retraced the steps of the original "stargazers"—the Magi. These weren't just men chasing a light; they were kingmakers responding to a divine signal written in the stars. But as we discover, the same God who aligned the planets in 6 BC to announce a King is the same God speaking to us today in our driveways, through our grief, and even through a pile of wood.Join us as we explore why the "Star of Bethlehem" still matters and how "chasing the star" today leads us to a life of radical generosity and worship. In this message, we discuss:The Science and Scripture of the Star: How a rare planetary alignment in Aries signaled the birth of Jesus. The Ancient Prophecy: Why a 1,400-year-old promise in Numbers 24:17 sent the Magi on a thousand-mile journey. It's Not Your Wood: A personal story of hearing God's voice and learning that everything we own is actually a gift meant to be shared.Finding Jesus in the Unexpected: How following the "star" leads us to help those who are hurting—the unemployed, the grieving, and the hungry.Scripture References:- Matthew 2:1-11- Numbers 24:17Key Takeaway:Jesus was sent for you. He was born for you, lived for you, died for you, and rose again because He madly loves you. It's not too late to chase the star tonight.Connect with Us: https://www.impact.church

Welcome to Be Bold for Jesus! Our mission is to help you walk boldly in your faith and follow Jesus with confidence. Led by Lee and Jaclyn Arnold, we teach the Bible in a way that transforms your heart and helps you see Jesus revealed throughout all of Scripture. In today's message:“The Christmas Journey: Finding Jesus on Every Page”We explore how the story of Christmas is woven throughout the Bible—not just in the Gospels, but even in passages that challenge us.In Jeremiah 27, God speaks through the prophet Jeremiah, calling Judah and the surrounding nations to submit to the yoke He has appointed. Though the message was difficult, unpopular, and even dangerous, Jeremiah remained faithful and obedient. This chapter reminds us that long before Jesus was born in Bethlehem, God was directing history toward redemption. This chapter reveals a powerful truth:God's sovereignty extends over all nations, leaders, and circumstances.God often calls His people to trust Him in seasons that feel uncomfortable or unclear.Resisting God's will leads to loss, while surrender prepares the way for peace, protection, and life.False prophets may promise ease or quick relief, but God's truth always requires trust and obedience. The reminder for us today:“I have made the earth, the people and the animals that are on the ground, by my great power and outstretched arm; and I give it to whom it seems right to me.” — Jeremiah 27:6“Take My yoke upon you… and you will find rest for your souls.” — Matthew 11:29From Jeremiah to Jesus, God's message is consistent: surrender brings freedom. The Christmas journey leads us to Christ, where obedience is met with grace and rest.If God is asking you to trust Him and take on His yoke, don't resist. In Jesus, surrender leads to peace, freedom, and protection.Stay connected and grow with us:• Sunday Sermons – Live on Zoom + Facebook• Wednesday Bible Study – Interactive discussions to go deeper• Daily Dose of Boldness – Devotionals to fuel your walk with GodBe Bold for Jesus Conference 2026An unforgettable weekend to ignite your faith. What if our well-intentioned efforts to promote mental health inadvertently perpetuate systems that cause mental unwellness? What if the resilience we encourage only equips individuals to endure rather than challenge structures detrimental to their well-being? Why do mental health experiences vary so drastically across cultures, with Western societies seemingly posing the greatest challenges for certain conditions? Against the backdrop of escalating ecological dramas that devastate our world and its climate, do we ever wonder what ecological suffering might imply for our mental health? With this poignant, impassioned book Seeking Sanctuary, Finding Shalom, John Swinton invites us to begin exploring avenues toward addressing these daunting and interrelated issues. John Swinton is a consulting faculty member at Duke Divinity and professor in practical theology and pastoral care and chair in divinity and religious studies at the University of Aberdeen in Scotland. For more than a decade he worked as a registered mental health nurse. He also worked for a number of years as a hospital and community mental health chaplain alongside of people with severe mental health challenges who were moving from the hospital into the community. In 2004, he founded the University of Aberdeen's Centre for Spirituality, Health, and Disability. He has published widely within the area of mental health, dementia, disability theology, spirituality and healthcare, end-of-life care, qualitative research, and pastoral care. Swinton is the author of a number of monographs including a previous book, Finding Jesus in the Storm: The Spiritual Lives of People With Mental Health Challenges (Eerdmans 2020), which won the Aldersgate book price for interdisciplinary theological research, and his book Dementia: Living in the Memories of God, which won the Archbishop of Canterbury's Ramsey Prize for excellence in theological writing. Swinton is a fellow of the Royal Society of Edinburgh and was recently elected as a fellow of the British Academy.
Rosemary Wixom is with us again! Through her example, personal experiences, and interactions with others, Sister Wixom shows us that when we prioritize our time in the temple, even when time seems like the only thing we don't have enough of in our lives, the blessings are immeasurable. She shares how she learned the truth of this promise from President Nelson: "The Lord will bring the miracles He knows you need as you make sacrifices to serve and worship in His temples." This episode is one that leaves us inspired and feeling emboldened to spend more time in the temple, either as regular temple workers or through more frequent temple worship. Rosemary and her husband served as temple president and matron of the Salt Lake Temple before it closed for renovations. Many of us also recognize her from her time serving as Primary general president. She also served on the Church's Temple and Family History Executive Council. And, fun fact, she has a twin sister! In this episode, Dr. Shane Owens, a scholar of St. Augustine, joins us to discuss the power of memory. Together, we explore how memory is a place to where we withdraw to understand our identity, shape our whole self, and begin to see God working in our lives. Memory exists for the purpose of hope and we not only talk about how the Scriptures and Eucharist bear the memories of the Church, but also how our sorrowful memories can become sources of hope. Discussion Questions: How can you hone your spiritual palate to be present to the good that God is doing in your life? When have you experienced the living power of memories? How have your memories been a source of hope? How are you being invited to slow down and ponder? Quote to Ponder: “The heart is the dwelling-place where I am, where I live; according to the Semitic or Biblical expression, the heart is the place "to which I withdraw." The heart is our hidden center, beyond the grasp of our reason and of others; only the Spirit of God can fathom the human heart and know it fully. The heart is the place of decision, deeper than our psychic drives. It is the place of truth, where we choose life or death. In John 5, Jesus heals a lame man, and then he begins to teach about himself. He makes some astounding claims, and the people challenge him. “Why should we believe you?” In the context of Jewish jurisprudence, if a claim was made, you had to have two or three corroborating witnesses. Jesus responds to the people's challenge with three: John the Baptist, Jesus' own works, and the scriptures. In the process of looking at what he says here, we learn three things Jesus himself believed about the scripture. Jesus believes in the Bible's 1) complete authority, 2) unity, and 3) vitality and power. This sermon was preached by Dr. Timothy Keller at Redeemer Presbyterian Church on November 24, 2013.
