Discover the profound teachings of the Prophet Haggai in this latest episode of Who's Who in the Bible, presented by Fr. Lawrence A., C.Ss.R. Set in 520 BC, the reflection explores Haggai's essential role in encouraging the returned exiles to complete the construction of the Second Temple in Jerusalem. Fr. Lawrence masterfully outlines the prophet's four key messages, which address the dangers of misplaced priorities, the call to maintain covenant faithfulness, and the hope for a future messianic kingdom. We invite you to watch this episode to understand how these ancient biblical lessons on humility and obedience provide a timeless blueprint for making intentional, faithful choices in your own life today.

Part 2 of this Bible Study, drawn from the Book of Haggai Chapter 2, presents a powerful call to renewed faithfulness and obedience, centered on the rebuilding of God's temple as a symbol of spiritual renewal. It emphasizes that true worship and service are not measured by outward grandeur but by inward holiness, as the people's efforts were tainted by unrepentant hearts and selfish priorities. Through a series of prophetic messages, the preacher underscores that God's presence and blessing are contingent upon genuine repentance and faithful action, promising that the glory of the latter temple would surpass the former through the coming Messiah. The passage also affirms God's sovereign plan, sealing His promise through Zerubbabel as a chosen vessel in the Davidic line, and applies this to believers today by reminding them of their divine election and the urgency of living in alignment with God's will. Ultimately, the message calls for self-examination, a rejection of complacency, and a confident trust in God's faithfulness to fulfill His redemptive purposes.
The Bible Study centers on the prophetic call of Haggai to restore God's priorities in the post-exilic community, confronting their misplaced focus on personal comfort over divine service. Through a powerful rebuke, Haggai exposes how the people's neglect of rebuilding God's temple—despite divine command and promise—had led to spiritual and material barrenness, echoing the covenantal consequences warned in Deuteronomy. Yet the message swiftly shifts from judgment to hope, as God promises His presence, strength, and future glory, assuring that the latter temple would surpass the former in splendor due to His indwelling presence. The preacher emphasizes that true revival begins with realignment of priorities, obedience to God's call, and trust in His sustaining power, culminating in a call to steadfastness and faithfulness in the work of the Lord. The tone is both convicting and comforting, urging the church today to reevaluate its values and embrace the divine mandate with courage and hope.
He was born in Babylon, of the priestly tribe of Levi, during the captivity of the Jews. After their return to Jerusalem, the Jews began to rebuild the Temple and to worship there according to the Law, but were discouraged by opposition from the local population (many of them Jews who had not gone into captivity). So God raised up the holy Prophets Haggai and Zechariah (February 8) to stir the people to complete their sacred work. Haggai's prophecies reveal that the drought that the Hebrews were suffering was brought about by their failure to complete the rebuilding of Jerusalem, and would only end when they rededicated themselves to their work. He is ranked tenth among the minor Prophets.
The Prophet Haggai was sent to the people of God after they had returned to Jerusalem after the exile. Despite their charge to rebuild the Temple, the work had stalled as they busied themselves with their own houses. In this message we learn how disobedience, and even delayed obedience, is an offense against God and will not result in His blessing our work. This sermon was preached at Legacy Reformed Baptist Church in East Grand Forks, MN. Could you list your top 3 priorities?Yep, me too. But how about when we try to actually live them?In this episode of Live the Bible, we see that the Bible is not just a Sunday textbook. And during the week, it's not just devotional material to go with our morning coffee. No, the Bible is for our lives—and it directs our priorities. The problem of living our priorities is not a new one. The Prophet Haggai was dealing with the problem a long time ago. The people then are much like us. The solution still works.Support the show
Have you seen anyone get off to great start and then stop? They just stopped doing what they were supposed to do. Why? The prophet Haggai talks about this in his little book.
Pastor JD talks about how God through the Prophet Haggai, warns the leaders and people of Judah to “consider their ways” concerning their prioritizing the building of their own houses while the Temple lay in ruins some 16-years after they returned from Babylon, and how this personally applies to us today, then concludes with Communion.

Sometimes God's actions make no sense to us. The Prophet Haggai was really struggling to see how a righteous and holy God could use a pagan people to discipline God's holy people. It made no sense! Do the ends really justify the means? Is God being inconsistent? No, but listen in to find out why…The Bible is not one book. What?! No, even though we might carry around one book called the Bible, it is actually 66 different books. Some of those books are long and some of those are short. Does that mean the longer books are more important than the shorter books? Not at all! In fact, there is a lot of deep truth in the smallest books of the Bible and that is what this series is all about. On this episode of Rightly Dividing, we start with the prophet Hosea, and work our way down the line, in order, to read the writings of a fascinating group of men known as ‘The Twelve'. One main thing they all have in common is that they all prophesy concerning the end times of Jacob's trouble, with a focus on the events of the great Tribulation. Jesus says in Hebrews “Then said I, Lo, I come (in the volume of the book it is written of me,) to do thy will, O God.”, and this is the sum and substance that make up the writings of these amazing Minor Prophets.ON THIS EPISODE: We take a look at the Prophet Haggai, and he talks a lot about the coming Millennium, and the glorious Temple that will exist in that time. “The glory of this latter house shall be greater than of the former, saith the LORD of hosts: and in this place will I give peace, saith the LORD of hosts.” That's the Throne of David that will exist in that time. Haggai also says “And I will overthrow the throne of kingdoms…”, and that's because Revelation says “The kingdoms of this world are become the kingdoms of our Lord, and of his Christ; and he shall reign for ever and ever.” Haggai is a very small and oft-overlooked book, but packed with nuggets on the Second Advent.
The Prophet Haggai prophesied that God will shake everything that can be shaken. He'll shake the heavens and the earth; and He'll shake ALL nations, starting with the financial markets. The current financial system is based on unjust weights and balances, greed and covetousness, and an insatiable appetite for more. God will judge this and it's inevitable. Will this be replaced with a new world order? And will it pave the way for the rise of an antichrist system? What will the final world order look like?

A breakaway message is a break from the series i'm involved in. My ministry has emergencies at times and also requires a lot of time. Sometimes I don't have enough time to prepare so I will do something from my Master's Program or something simple that God has laid on my heart. This is from the Prophet Haggai! The children of Israel were to be rebuilding the Temple - The House of God. They decided to to their own thing and ignore the Priority. Here is what happened.

We continue to look at the Prophet Haggai as the people begin to be discouraged. When they remember the majesty of Solomon's temple, the new temple looks pale in comparison.

The Prophet Haggai was one of a handful of prophets who were send back with Zechariah to prepare Jerusalem and the Temple for the return of the nation. His little book, while not considered the most poetic of the prophets, does contain some wonderful surprises for our modern lives, as well as stands as proof that the Lord of Hosts (Jesus Christ) always keeps His promises to us, although not always on our timetables. It's time to feast on the Word! Those wishing more on this topic are invited to explore the author's greater Gospel Feast Series available in hard copy or eReader.A very special thank you to Andrew Koyama for his voice talents.
