We've all done something and then seen that look in people's eyes. You know the one, where some of the joy leaves, the smile thins, and a cool draft blows in. And it seems that some of their love for you gets caught up like fall leaves in that draft and blows away. Human beings struggle with loving well, but God doesn't. He promises that nothing in you and nothing outside of you will interrupt or intercept His love for you. I promise. How many of us have heard that statement but the promise became a broken promise. I promise that I will come to your game. I promise to be married to you forever. I promise it won't happen again. The hurt, pain, and discouragement are real. Can we trust anyone to fulfill their promises to us? The answer is, yes! Did you know that God will never break His promises to you? What are those promises that you can trust Him for? Technology can be used well, for the good of others and ourselves, but it can also be used to demean or destroy. It's all in how we use it. Because it isn't going away, it matters how we approach it. Sin is not an outdated term. It's God's way to describe our natural bent towards destructive choices, fractured relationships, and crooked thinking. But even though we can't help ourselves, God can. And He provides grace – spiritual empowerment – to enable us to rise above… if we will first humbly ask for forgiveness and then allow Him the room to make changes in our lives. I have always felt that the theme or setting of a game can really help with learning it. In a game about the Spice Routes, for example, it will be instinctively clear why there are mechanisms to exchange resources of different types with each other or for money. After all, that's what the spice trade was mainly about. However, a game's theme or setting isn't necessarily useful. Sometimes it can be a hindrance. In this article, I want to look at this a bit more closely. Part of the mystique of Christianity is how at its core it is always open to anyone who will believe. In His own time, Jesus made space for the outcasts, the lowlifes, the unclean and ostracized, the traitors, the second-class citizens. People of all backgrounds knew they could come just as they were and find a friend in Jesus. He in turn invited them to become His disciples and change the world! So come as you are and encounter a life-changing relationship with Jesus! When we think of a river, we do not envision something that stays in one place. In fact, a river does not stand still - a river flows! In Ezekiel 47, God gives the prophet a vision of what happens when the river of forgiveness, healing, and hope flows out of the church. Some people wonder why we only have the Bible as the authoritative Word of God. Did God stop speaking after the book of Revelation? As the river flows, it makes no distinctions between who can enter and who can't. Neither do we. The next generation is as much a present force as a future one, and we do our best to empower them into be leaders in this gospel saturation movement. Join us as we explore 2 Timothy and Jeremiah for insights for empowering kids and teens, whatever it takes. When we think of a river, we do not envision something that stays in one place. In fact, a river does not stand still - a river flows! In Ezekiel 47, God gives the prophet a vision of what happens when the river of forgiveness, healing, and hope flows out of the church. The Valley Church will be a river church. We will be on a mission. We will be a church in and for the community. This series will serve as the catalyst for how The Valley Church will punch holes in the darkness throughout our region. They say you can tell a lot about a person based on how they spend their money. Whether someone is a spender or saver, likes books or fashion, is generous or greedy. Because money is so essential to daily life and yet so corrosive to our hearts, Jesus talks a lot about it. He knows that if He's not Lord of your finances, He's not much of a Lord in your life at all. Sound extreme? Listen for yourself. You might have heard that Jesus desires to be your Savior, but did you know He also desires to be your leader? The Bible calls this the Lordship of Jesus. “With great power comes great responsibility.” For Peter Parker, this line refers to his uncanny spider-like abilities, but it can also refer to our emotions and his. Our emotions can be powerful indicators of how we are perceiving the world around us, but they were never meant to be our sole source of direction. What happens when we allow our feelings to dictate our lives? Check out this message to find out! Great movies are built around compelling, life-like characters. The struggles they face, the heartbreak they experience, the odds stacked against them. But it's not just the what's – the who's in their lives matter too. We learn a lot from the way they interact with their friends and enemies, how they handle their emotions, and what they do with conflict. Join us as we dive into our August Movie Marathon series!
