Welcome to Day 2689 of Wisdom-Trek. Thank you for joining me. This is Guthrie Chamberlain, Your Guide to Wisdom Day 2689 – A Joyful Life Because God Is Life Putnam Church Message – 08/03/2025 Sermon Series: 1, 2, & 3 John “A Joyful Life - God is Life.”   Last week, we began a new systematic verse-by-verse study of the letters 1, 2, & 3 John, followed by Jude with insights and introduction to 1, 2, & 3 John., This week, we will begin going through these letters, and today, we will cover 1 John 1:1-4 as we explore “A Joyful Life - God is Life.” Let's read 1 John 1:1-4 from the NIV, which is found on page 1898 of your Pew Bibles. That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked at and our hands have touched—this we proclaim concerning the Word of life. 2 The life appeared;/ we have seen it and testify to it, and we proclaim to you the eternal life, which was with the Father/ and has appeared to us. 3 We proclaim to you what we have seen and heard, so that you also may have fellowship with us. And our fellowship is with the Father and with his Son, Jesus Christ. 4 We write this to make our[a] joy complete. Opening Prayer The Old Elder's Sacred Hymnal Imagine, if you will, a community nestled deep in the Appalachian Mountains, where generations had always found their deepest solace and strongest unity in the act of worship. At the very heart of their gatherings was a sacred treasure: the Sacred Hymnal. It was an ancient, hand-bound volume, filled not just with words and notes, but with the very deep and rich hymns of the faith that had been the core of their Christian community for centuries. This Hymnal held the essence of their spiritual identity,> their history with the Lord, their enduring promises, and their profound, unshakeable joy. Its melodies and truths had been intimately given and taught by the Divine Composer Himself, who had shared His very heart in song through His Beloved Son. Now, only a few, very old members of this community, the Original Witness Bearers, had actually walked and sung with the Beloved Son. They had seen Him teach the very first hymns, had heard His voice ring out with divine authority, and had even felt the tangible presence of His Spirit as their hands held the first copies of the Hymnal's truths. Their lives were utterly intertwined with these living songs. But as years turned into decades, and the younger generations grew up, many had begun to rely on distant echoes of the hymns. Some knew the words on the page, but the melody had faded in their hearts. Others listened to flimsy, modern tunes, catchy but shallow, that lacked the profound depth and spiritual weight of the originals. A subtle, lethargic boredom, a kind of spiritual apathy, crept into the community. The initial thrill of shared worship

At today's Hymnal & Pure Worship Service, Pastor Yomi Badejo-Okusanya shared a powerful word titled “Fresh Strength.” He reminded us that human strength fails, and urged us never to place our trust in man's ability. Instead, we must recognise God as our true powerhouse, accessible through prayer and worship. Never trade your spiritual source for anything. The anchor scripture, Isaiah 40:31 (NKJV & AMPC), declares that those who wait on the Lord will renew their strength. Pastor Yomi walked us through Isaiah 40:27–31 (MSG) and Luke 22:41–43, where even Jesus, in agony, received strength from heaven. We were reminded from Philippians 4:13 and 2 Corinthians 12:9–10 that God's strength is perfected in our weakness. As David declared in Psalm 73:26, “My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart.” We were encouraged to “give strength to gain strength”—by encouraging others, staying in faith, and continuing to pray. Pastor also touched on 1 Samuel 2:9 and Job 22:27–28, emphasising that our faith must rise even when weary. As the man cried in Mark 9:24, “Lord, I believe; help my unbelief!” He then led the church in prophetic declarations: Nehemiah 8:10 – The joy of the Lord is our strength. 2 Corinthians 13:4 – Though Christ was crucified in weakness, He lives by God's power. Psalm 18:29–32 – The Lord arms us with strength and makes our way perfect. Psalm 103:5 – He satisfies us with good things and renews our youth. Deuteronomy 33:25 – As your days, so shall your strength be. Job 42:10 & 12 – God will restore all we've lost, twice as much and make our latter days better. Joel 2:25–26 – We shall eat in plenty, be satisfied, and never be put to shame! It was a stirring reminder that God's strength is real, fresh, and always available to those who wait on Him!

We're living in fractured times. What can art really offer us? Lyra Pramuk's powerful new album Hymnal might just offer a clue — not through escapism or easy answers, but by embracing contradiction and carving out sonic spaces where new ways of being can start to take root.I visited Lyra at her studio in Berlin to talk about the making of what could be one of the most bold and affecting records of the year. Building on the foundation of her acclaimed 2020 debut Fountain, she's taken things somewhere even more unflinching — a place of dissonance, grief, ritual, and surprising beauty. Hymnal isn't here to soothe; it mirrors the complexity of the world around us, while still offering room to breathe and imagine something different. What's remarkable is how central collaboration is to this work. There's Berlin's Sonar Quartet, whose strings thread through the record with a kind of aching elegance. But perhaps most unexpected is her partnership with a slime mold — yes, a slime mold — whose movements across poetic maps helped shape the flow of her vocal improvisations. It's as wild as it sounds, and just as moving. Our conversation drifts through everything from the spiritual and physical labour of music-making to the poetic logic of electronic sound. Lyra shares thoughts on technology as an extension of our bodies (think spiders sensing the world through their webs), the limits of Cartesian mind-body dualism, and why electronic music can hold radical potential — not just as art, but as a way of reimagining how we live together. Where techno-capitalism demands hierarchy and separation, Hymnal offers something else: a kind of sacred entanglement between people, nature, and machines.Listen to Lyra Pramuk's music: Spotify – Artist | BandcampListen to Hymnal (2025): Spotify – Album Hymnal | Bandcamp – HymnalFollow Lyra Pramuk on Instagram: @lyra.pramukIf you enjoy Lost and Sound and want to help keep it thriving, the best way to support is simple: subscribe, leave a rating, and write a quick review on your favourite podcast platform. Instead of bitterness, she found profound surrender after hearing an elderly woman at their prayer service.Drawing from Jeremiah's vision of the potter and clay, Pollard crafted verses that have guided generations through seasons of uncertainty and change.  What part of your life needs surrendering today? He reminded us that often our greatest obstacle is our own fear, which cripples our faith and keeps us from walking on the waters God calls us to. Yet in our darkest moments, Jesus speaks with authority: “But immediately Jesus spoke to them, saying, ‘Be of good cheer! It is I; do not be afraid.'” This powerful reassurance calls us to fix our eyes on Him, leaving fear behind and stepping confidently into His presence.
