The Word of Grace

Pastor Colins Nwosu began a new teaching series titled The Trinity of the Godhead, leading the church into a deeper and more enriching understanding of our relationship with the Triune God. Drawing from several scriptures, we explored the biblical foundation of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit existing distinctly yet perfectly united as One God. From the baptism of Jesus in Matthew 3, we saw all three persons of the Godhead revealed together: the Father speaking from heaven, the Son being baptised, and the Spirit descending like a dove. This teaching emphasised that the Trinity is not merely a theological concept, but a revelation of God's nature and His desire for relationship with humanity. From the absolute unity of creation in Genesis 1:1–3 and John 1:1–5, to the ongoing ministry of the Comforter in John 14:26 and John 16:5–11, we see the perfect harmony and cooperation of the Godhead at work. Pastor Colins explained that understanding the Trinity strengthens our faith, deepens our worship, and enriches our walk with God because we are invited into fellowship with the fullness of who He is. The message also pointed us toward unity, reminding us from John 17:21 that just as the Godhead exists in perfect oneness, believers are also called into unity and communion with God and with one another. Confession: Lord, thank You for revealing Yourself to me as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Deepen my understanding of who You are, strengthen my walk with You, and help me live daily in fellowship with the fullness of Your presence and love.

In this episode, we explore the story behind The Lutheran Hymnal (1941) and the remarkable collaboration that brought it into existence. Drawing on Elisabeth J. Urtel's recent dissertation, the conversation traces how the Missouri, Wisconsin, Norwegian, and Slovak synods of the Synodical Conference worked together to produce a shared English-language hymnal during a time of profound cultural change. The discussion examines how the shift from German and other immigrant languages to English shaped Lutheran identity in America, the theological and musical principles that guided the hymnal committee, and the challenges of translating and selecting hymns that would faithfully carry the Lutheran confession into a new cultural setting. Along the way, we ask how hymnody forms theology and devotion, how different Lutheran traditions negotiated their distinctive musical heritages, and how the publication of The Lutheran Hymnal helped foster a shared American identity among confessional Lutherans. The episode also reflects on the reception and lasting influence of TLH and what its history reveals about the relationship between tradition, language, and church life. 1941 Recording of a TLH model service (misleadingly described as just "Missouri Synod.")Many thanks to my wonderful supporters!NEW PODCAST: American Evangelicals - A History PodcastA thoughtful, deep dive into one of the most talked-about movements in American history.Support the showConfessional Languages ScholarshipThe Wauwatosa Diary (book)Youtube ( even more behind-the-scenes videos available for certain patron tiers)FacebookWebsiteInterview Request Form email: thelutheranhistorypodcast@gmail.comAbout the HostBenjamin Phelps is a 2014 graduate from Martin Luther College with a Bachelor of Arts with a German emphasis. Noah talks with Jalen Seawright on what justice is, why it's a part of the biblical path of following Jesus, as well as how to find balance with our justice efforts, our own limits, and the ability to enjoy life. Much is discussed of Jesus' kingdom in contrast with the human kingdoms of today, and how we are always trying to get Jesus to fit into our human kingdoms like Christian Nationalism.    Jalen Seawright is a pastor, community activist, and justice advocate based in Metro Detroit, where he lives with his wife, Keyonna, and their three daughters—Karington, Kaidence, and Kyelinn. An accomplished musician, Jalen has faithfully served churches across the country as a worship leader, music director, and preacher. He continues to travel nationally, equipping organizations to leverage the arts in advancing justice. He is also a songwriter and contributor within the Common Hymnal ecosystem. Above all, Jalen is devoted to his family and committed to being the best Black father and proud “girl dad” he can be.   You can also watch this episode on YouTube: https://youtu.be/TLtXdfGN4sI   Flip Side Notes: Join an upcoming Beyond the Battle online group at www.beyondthebattle.net   Support Flip Side sponsor Angry Brew by using promo code FLIP at angrybrew.com or fivelakes.com to pick up some Angry Brew or Chris' Blend coffee at 10% off.   Get a free month of Covenant Eyes at www.covenanteyes.com using promo code BEYOND   Get a free month of Accountable2You keyword accountability: a2u.app/beyond (do not use “www”)   Your recurring gifts make Noah's ministry & The Flip Side possible. In this sermon Pastor Christopher talks about five main topics as found in this passage: The Call to Worship, The Distress, The Deliverance, the Declaration, and The Call to Worship again. He breaks down what we should do when we encounter stress in our life, and what we do when we take our stress to God. Finally, he shares with us how it is better to put our trust in the Lord than in man, and the victory over the nations because of the Lord that is talked about in this passage. Thanks for Listening! At our Hymnal and Pure Worship Service, Pastor Femi Paul taught on the subject Which Particular Opportunity Is Premium to You? using the story of Elkannah & Hannah from 1 Samuel 1 as the anchor scripture. We were reminded that while God is the God of many opportunities, there is often one opportunity of highest value to each person. A premium opportunity is not casual rather it is personal, deeply significant, and capable of redefining seasons and destinies. Hannah's burden revealed that her greatest need was not comfort or social approval, but a divine intervention that would change her story completely. PFP emphasised that premium opportunities are accessed through clarity of desire, sincere prayer, and alignment with God's purpose. Hannah asked specifically, prayed intentionally, and received unmistakably. Her story showed that God responds when our request is clear and our faith is engaged. In 2026, God is not offering vague answers but personalised breakthroughs. As we ask, God agrees, and as He agrees, we receive. This year, every believer is positioned to receive their own premium opportunity, a game changing door that brings fulfilment, fruitfulness, and visible transformation. Confession: Father, I receive clarity to identify my premium opportunity in 2026. As I ask in faith, You agree with me, and I receive my game changing breakthrough. My story is changing by divine intervention, in Jesus' name. Amen.
