At today's Hymnal & Pure Worship Service, Pastor Yomi Badejo-Okusanya brought God's Word from Matthew 14:22–27 in a message entitled “It Is I…”. He reminded us that often our greatest obstacle is our own fear, which cripples our faith and keeps us from walking on the waters God calls us to. Yet in our darkest moments, Jesus speaks with authority: “But immediately Jesus spoke to them, saying, ‘Be of good cheer! It is I; do not be afraid.'” This powerful reassurance calls us to fix our eyes on Him, leaving fear behind and stepping confidently into His presence.

At our Hymnal & Pure Worship Service, Pastor Yomi Badejo-Okusanya shared a powerful word titled "The BUT in Our Lives." Luke 1:5-7 (NKJV) reveals how life's “BUT” moments contrast with God's promises. "But" introduces a shift—where limitations exist, divine intervention follows! Every "BUT" in your life is an opportunity for God's power to manifest!

At today's Hymnal & Pure Worship Service, Pastor Yomi Badejo-Okusanya delivered a profound teaching titled "All Winds." Taking reference from Romans 8:28 (NKJV): "And we know that all things (WINDS) work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose." The AMP version expands it beautifully: "God causes all things to work together [as a plan] for good for those who love Him and are called according to His purpose." He illustrated this with a fascinating fact from NOAA: A Wind Shift occurs when the wind changes direction by 45 degrees or more within 15 minutes, with sustained speeds of 10 knots or more. No matter the winds of life, whether sudden shifts or steady flows, God orchestrates them all for our ultimate good!

Advent is a home for our longing that is at once ancient and new every day. We join our longing for the full inbreaking of God's justice, peace, and liberating love to the longing of our forebears in the faith. Like them, we continue to wait while also being called into embodying our hope. Not because the conditions seem optimistic, but - in the face of any and all circumstances, with broken hearts - we “nevertheless / even now” enact our collective hope in the world around us.Sermon begins at minute marker 3:58Scripture: Joel 2.12-13, 28-29ResourcesBibleWorm podcast: Episode 615 – Rend Your Hearts, Amy Robertson and Robert Williamson, JrImage: Photo by Kelly Sikkema on Unsplash Hymn 216 - Lo, How a Rose E'er Blooming. Link to the service and hymns: https://trinitylutheransd.org/wp-content/uploads/2024/10/Reformation-Hymn-Festival-2024.pdf The first evangelical hymnal—which in retrospect we can also call the first Lutheran hymnal—rolled off the presses around the middle of January 1524. But interestingly, it did not roll off the presses in Wittenberg, even though the title page gave that impression, or even at Luther's instigation. It was printed by Jobst Gutknecht in Nuremberg, well over 200 miles to the south of Wittenberg, and apparently on his own initiative. Gutknecht compiled four hymns that had been individually published in Wittenberg on broadsheets in 1523 and 1524. He also obtained the texts of three additional Luther hymns, which were already being sung in services in Wittenberg. (There were no copyright laws back then, and printers regularly copied, reprinted, and sold works they obtained from elsewhere.) To these seven hymns he added one more anonymous one, which was possibly given to him in the composer's own manuscript. He published these eight hymns under the title:Some Christian Songs, Hymns of Praise, and Psalms, Produced in Conformity with the Pure Word of God from Holy Scripture by Various Well-Educated Men for Singing in Church, Just As Is Already Being Done with Some of Them in WittenbergSupport the show Lutheran History Shop Youtube ( even more behind-the-scenes videos available for certain patron tiers) Facebook Website Interview Request Form email: thelutheranhistorypodcast@gmail.com About the Host Benjamin Phelps is a 2014 graduate from Martin Luther College with a Bachelor of Arts with a German emphasis. Today, Pastor Yomi Badejo-Okusanya continued The Kingdom, Power & Glory! series with a recap of the seven powers discussed last meeting and focused on today's theme, The Glory. Referencing John 17:22, he emphasized that Jesus has given believers the glory He received from the Father so that we may be united as one. Pastor Yomi shared how God's glory empowers and unites His people, creating a reflection of heaven on earth. He concluded with a powerful prayer from Psalm 24:7-10: “Lift up your heads, O you gates! And be lifted up, you everlasting doors! And the King of glory shall come in. Who is this King of glory? The Lord strong and mighty, The Lord mighty in battle.”
