Plot:Doug Glatt (Sean William Scott), a bouncer at a bar in Massachusetts, feels ostracized from society, especially since his father and brother are both successful physicians. Doug attends a minor league hockey game with his best friend Pat (Jay Baruchel). Pat taunts the visiting team during a fight and one of their players climbs into the stands, calling him a homosexual slur. Doug (whose brother is gay) steps in and easily beats up the opposing player, as Pat films him, and the video goes is played on Pats hockey show, prompting the coach to call in and tell Doug to come try out as an enforcer. -I like how it starts, with the fight;-I cant see Sean William Scott and not see Stiffler-Jays hair is rediculous, with the cuts...and one is crooked-That was a brutal fight-Are those the guys from the Trailer Park Boys in the studio?-Good for Doug getting his 'thing'-Jay has a terrible Boston accent Meanwhile, veteran enforcer and Doug's idol Ross "The Boss" Rhea (Liev Schreiber) is demoted to the minors after serving a 20-game suspension for slashing an opponent in the head from behind. Three years prior, Rhea hit and concussed the highly-skilled prospect Xavier Laflamme (Marc-André Grondin), who has had trouble recovering from the incident due to the fear of being hit, resulting in his being stuck in the minors. After earning the nickname "The Thug," Doug was hired by a farm team in Canada where Laflamme plays, the Halifax Highlanders, to protect Laflamme and be his roommate. The Highlanders experience success with Doug as their enforcer, and he quickly becomes popular among fans and teammates, much to the chagrin of his parents and Laflamme, who loses ice time and the alternate-captaincy to Doug.Doug also becomes romantically involved with Eva (Alison Pill), a hockey fan with a penchant for players. -So he went from not playing hockey, to an amateur team, to a pro team in, like, 2-3 games?-Def weird to sign someones dick. The Eva arch is interesting... Not sure what scared her off.-She walked in talking to her bf, and only pulled back after they kissed? With four games left on their schedule, the Highlanders need two wins to secure a playoff spot. On a road game in Quebec after an opposing player concusses Laflamme with a heavy hit, Doug savagely beats the player unconscious and is suspended for the next game against Rhea and the St. John's Shamrocks. Doug encounters Rhea at a diner, where Rhea dismisses Doug's claim that he is a hockey player, calling him a goon. Though Rhea acknowledges Doug's physical prowess and gives Doug his respect, Rhea warns him that if they ever meet on the ice, he will "lay [him] the fuck out." The Highlanders (with Doug suspended and Laflamme hospitalized) lose to the Shamrocks. Doug reaches out to Laflamme, and promises him he will always have his back on the ice. In their next game, the Highlanders lead 1–0 thanks to strong teamwork between Doug and Laflamme. -Glad his family showed up, they're supportive-Doug in the bedroom was intense-Did Doug let the guy check LeFlamme? and fake going after him afterwards?-Eva calling herself a slut and admitting to sleeping around was an odd turn-Interesting meeting between Doug and Rhea-Stomach light?-I don't understand the turn around with LeFlamme In the final seconds, Doug blocks a slapshot with his face and his ankle is injured in the ensuing scramble. The Highlanders win, but they need a win against Rhea and the Shamrocks in their last game for a playoff spot. After two periods, the Shamrocks are beating the Highlanders 2–0. Rhea and Doug drop the gloves in the third period. Doug is knocked down first, but Rhea calls off the linesmen and allows him to get back up. Doug manages to break Rhea's nose, but breaks his previously injured ankle in the process. Doug manages to stand back up and knocks out Rhea with a vicious left hook. Eva and his teammates help a seriously injured Doug off the ice and Laflamme, inspired by Doug's efforts and Rhea's defeat, scores a natural hat trick, giving the Highlanders a 3–2 lead.As the game enters its final minute, the final scene has Eva comforting Doug in the locker room as he comments, "I think I nailed him." -Damn the puck to the face... but a good stop.-Do Doug and Rhea will meet in the playoffs, and LaFlamme doesn't walk on the logo-The music during the last game was weird... very tense and ominous. Not what you'd expect.-Whats with the weak ankles? Never mentioned before the fight.-That fight was pretty epic and brutal, worth the wait.-Like how Rhea smiled when he was getting up-Good, happy ending. The end Top Five Trivia of the movie: TOP 5 FACTSSeann William Scott gained weight for the role of Doug Glatt, as well as taking intensive skating lessons and fighting on ice.A great majority of the cast is comprised by Canadian actors, including the well-established actors in Hollywood like Jay Baruchel, Kim Coates, Alison Pill and Eugene Levy. The only non-Canadians in major roles are Minnesota-native Seann William Scott and New Yorker Liev Schreiber. Ironically, Baruchel plays an American character (a thickly-accented Massachusetts native) in the film, while Schreiber plays a Canadian character. The scene where Rhea sheds crocodile tears during a press conference was a reference to NHL player Todd Bertuzzi. Bertuzzi, playing for the Vancouver Canucks at the time, punched Colorado Avalanche's Steve Moore in the back of the head during a game causing an injury that would end Moore's career. In a press conference afterwards, an emotional Bertuzzi tearfully apologized for the incident, which cost him a $500,000 salary deduction and a 17 month suspension.Seann William Scott gained weight for the role of Doug Glatt, as well as taking intensive skating lessons and fighting on ice.In an interview with hockey blog Puck Daddy, Liev Schreiber notes that he was inspired by former hockey enforcer Bob Probert. As an homage to the player, he taped his wrists for the film, just as Probert had done when he played. **TRIPLE LINDY AWARD** **REVIEW AND RATING** TOP 5Stephen:1 Breakfast club2 T23 Sandlot4 Back to the Future5 Mail order brides Chris:1. sandlots2. John Scott was the professional hockey player that every fan loved to hate. A tough guy. A brawler. A goon. But when an impish pundit named Puck Daddy called on fans to vote for Scott to play alongside the world’s greatest players in the NHL All-Star Game, Scott found himself facing off against fans, commentators, and the powers that be. Was this the realization of Scott’s childhood dreams? Or a nightmarish prank gone too far? Today on Radiolab, a goof on a goon turns into a parable of the agony and the ecstasy of the internet, and democracy in the age of Boaty McBoatface. This episode was reported by Latif Nasser and was produced by Matt Kielty. Special thanks to Larry Lynch and Morgan Springer. Nat, Mike and Dan are all in one place for the second week in a row (a record for 2015) to witness the much-lamented return of HdP from his Nicaraguan adventures. They don't let this get in the way of a good old fashioned Super Bowl dissection so there's still a reason to listen... In other news: Big thanks for Ann for keeping the good ship 'Carnage on a fine course; Dan talks miscarriage of justice documentaries; Mike makes all take pause using a Hemmingway story; Nat talks Springsteen-related things - who knew he liked the guy?!; Osi Umenora is a Katy Perry fan, Gethen failed to get her number for him; Mike runs down XLIX so no need to say any more here; in the NBA, Atlanta lead the East; Golden State lead the West; Atlant's streak broke on the unlikely shoulder of the New Orleans Pelicans; Kobe news: still injured. But is going to be in an HBO doc called ‘A Legend Unguarded’; Tampa Bay lead the East from Montreal; while Nashville have finally displaced Anaheim as the leaders of the West; the league is all about Peel Gate - on Monday the NHL suspended controversial referee Tim Peel, not for the several bad calls he has made recently, but because he met Puck Daddy’s Greg Wyshinksi in a Manhattan bar, and posed drinking tequila the night before the game; loads of Bodean's Mailbag goodness; a game which works surprisingly well and much, much more...

2014 NHL Playoffs Preview with Greg Wyshynski, editor of the "Puck Daddy" blog for Yahoo! Sports.
I remember Greg Wyshynski way back when ... Fellow It's All Journalism producer Julie O'Donoghue and I worked together for years at The Connection Newspapers in Northern Virginia. She covered politics and I was one of the community editors. Greg was the guy who ran the sports department, dividing his time between covering high school field hockey games and blogging about hockey separate from the newspaper. He also spent a stint running the Connection's entertainment page. The one thing that was consistent, no matter what Greg was writing about, it was going to be fun and more often than not, very funny. He even wrote a book â€" "Glow Pucks and 10-cent Beers: The 101 Worst Ideas in Sports History," which he calls the best reviewed bathroom reader. So, when Greg left The Connection, it was pretty clear he was on an upward arc and he was going to end up doing something fun and probably very funny. Flash forward to today and Greg is the editor of Puck Daddy, the highly entertaining and informative Yahoo! hockey blog. There, he applies his talent for finding whimsy in the serious sports world. In addition, Greg also brings his whimsical POV to the podcasting world via the "Marek Vs. Wyshynski" podcast. Indulge as we catch up with an old friend.

Now before you get all "ehhhhhhh" about this being the first podcast we've done in about a month and a half, I'm going to tell you to slow your roll right f'n now. First, the Hawks had a home-intensive schedule which made it difficult to find an night wherein everyone was available and Sam did not have an Indian deadline to work toward. Second, it was the Holiday season, and we all had various familiar obligations. And lastly, as we had mentioned previously, we were efforting a for real, grown up studio to record in, and we were finally able to manage that. My wonderful girlfriend put us in contact with her cousin who is a profession in these sorts of things, and was ever benevolent in helping us out. We hope you notice a significant difference in the sound quality, particularly during our interview, which this week is with Sean Leahy of the venerable Puck Daddy on Yahoo! as we discuss Sid's non-violent protest to violent head shots, as well as some curiosities in the Western conference standings. We also look ahead to the Hawks meat grinder weekend before the All Star break, and plug a couple of upcoming events (don't worry there will be posts here for them). So we invite you to please take a listen to our first podcast, coming to you thanks to our newly minted executive producer Marina and the fine folks at Optimus Chicago. As usual, the download links are below, and you can find us on iTunes searching for "Second City Hockey" or "Live From The Five Hole". Or you could just listen to something else during your work day like you usually do, but I think you'll get with this, 'cause this is where it's at.
With the Hawks now back at home after the long road trip, you had to know it was only going to be a matter of time before you were subjected to yet another one of these, didn't you? In this installment we take a look back at the results from the Circus Trip, as well as ahead to a home-intensive month for the Hawks on West Madison. We HAD recorded an excellent interview with Ryan Lambert, a.k.a., Two-Line Pass, he of Puck Daddy, his eponymous blog, and also a member of Flames Nation with some weapons-grade vitriol for his favorite team...but, there were...issues. Pretty much the instant we concluded the interview, I realized that the phone call recording utility we use had crashed halfway though the interview, and the whole thing was lost in the ether. So as a result we apologize to both you the listening public and Mr. Lambert, as this episode will be filed away in the annals of history with the couple of "lost issues" of the Committed Indian. As always, you can download the podcast directly via the ink below, or you can get it in iTunes by searching for "Second City Hockey" or "Live From the Five Hole". I still hope you enjoy the abbreviated version we have to offer, but I'm not expecting to grow flowers in the desert.
Cal Clutterbuck and his moustache jumped on with Puck Daddy Thursday afternoon to talk puck, hairy lips, Sid and more.
You didn't really think that we'd let the season start without an actual season preview podcast did you? You did. Well fuck. I guess we deserved that. In any event, we've got a full podcast complete with season previews, predictions, and an actual guest this time around, none other than the man who solicits the wonderful, insightful comments over at Puck Daddy- the man himself, Greg Wyshynski. We get his thoughts as the regular season opens and make him defend some of the picks he made today for the Western Conference, as well as get a sneak peek at what the East will look like tomorrow. Oh, and Killion actually managed to lock his car properly this time. As always, you can get it via iTunes, RSS, or the link below. When I chirp, shorty, chirp back.

It will be a very fun show with lots to discuss. As always, we hope you can tune in live and join in with the chat room banter.
As promised, we've got fresh sound for you in the form of another episode of Live From The Five Hole, and if I may be so bold as to say it, overall, I think it's our best one yet. Given enough whacks at it, we were bound to get it right, right? As if you needed to be reminded again, our guest for this edition is none other than hockey blogging kingpin Greg Wyshinski, know to the unwashed masses as simply Puck Daddy. Click on the link below to find out what he really thinks about Canucks fans, and to get our thoughts about the upcoming series against Nashville. As always, your feedback is greatly appreciated.
