C'est une nouvelle qui pourrait doucher l'enthousiasme de nombreux observateurs... La célèbre marque de composants informatique Intel estime que si le Metaverse représente l'avenir d'internet, la puissance de calcul actuellement disponible pour le faire tourner ne serait finalement pas à la hauteur... Pire, d'après le géant de l'informatique, il faudrait même la multiplier par 1000 pour pouvoir donner naissance au Metaverse tel que nous l'imaginons.Il aura donc fallu attendre plusieurs mois pour qu'Intel ne fasse sa première déclaration publique sur le Metaverse, vous savez, cet univers similaire à la réalité, mais totalement digital, accessible grâce à un casque de réalité virtuelle. Le moins que l'on puisse dire, c'est que chez Intel, on observe la naissance du Metaverse avec un tout petit peu plus de distance que Mark Zuckerberg, le patron de Facebook. En effet, le second fabricant mondial de semi-conducteurs estime que l'avenir tel que décrit par le patron du célèbre réseau social nécessitera une puissance de calcul incommensurable. Je cite Raja Koduri, vice président d'Intel : « considérez ce qui est nécessaire pour placer deux personnes dans un environnement entièrement virtuel […] et vous vous rendrez rapidement compte que notre infrastructure informatique, de stockage et de mise en réseau aujourd'hui n'est tout simplement pas suffisante ».D'après lui, il faudrait carrément augmenter par 1000 la puissance de calcul et le traitement des ordinateurs actuels. En effet, pour mettre en place un tel Metaverse immersif, il ne suffit pas de déployer des NFTs sur la blockchain ou proposer des casques de réalité virtuelle ou augmentée performants... Il faut avant tout que les serveurs informatiques et les ordinateurs qui feront tourner les mondes numériques soient... suffisamment puissant pour les faire tourner justement. C'est aussi simple que cela.Alors comment parvenir à multiplier notre puissance informatique par 1000 sans faire exploser nos émissions de CO2 ? En effet, la pollution est également une problématique à prendre en compte. Et bien au risque de vous décevoir, personne n'a la réponse pour l'instant. D'ailleurs, Intel estime que la puissance de calcul ne devrait augmenter que fois 10 dans les cinq prochaines années, ce qui serait toujours insuffisant pour faire vivre pleinement le Metaverse. Cependant une chose est sure, la firme américaine partage la vision de millions d'observateurs et de leaders de la tech comme quoi le Metaverse représente le futur d'internet. D'ailleurs, il sera plus correct de parler de Metaverse au pluriel, car jusqu'à présent, nombreuses sont les compagnies a avoir annoncé leur volonté de créer leur propre espace virtuel, mais aucune à ce jour n'a émise l'idée de rassembler l'intégralité de ces Metaverse au sein d'une seule et même entité.
