When Charlotte and its regional planning body withdrew support for a $4.3 billion widening of Interstate 77, North Carolina lawmakers responded by threatening a $60 million penalty and a funding cutoff. Host Carlee Alm-LaBar is joined by Patrick Kennedy, whose Atlas of Inner-City Highway Impacts documents highway damage across 142 cities, and John Reuter, the newly named Executive Director of Strong Towns, to break down the sunk cost trap, the real math behind highway "assets," and why the local officials who pushed back may have saved far more than they spent. Patrick Kennedy of All Source Investment Management says the reopening of the IPO window boosts the case for private equity, with Reddit (RDDT) highlighting retail demand. He warns of post-lockup pressure like Uber Technologies (UBER) and sees AI-driven dispersion creating long/short opportunities across Alphabet (GOOGL), Amazon (AMZN), and smaller disruptors.======== Schwab Network ========Empowering every investor and trader, every market day.Subscribe to the Market Minute newsletter - https://schwabnetwork.com/subscribeDownload the iOS app - https://apps.apple.com/us/app/schwab-network/id1460719185Download the Amazon Fire Tv App - https://www.amazon.com/TD-Ameritrade-Network/dp/B07KRD76C7Watch on Sling - https://watch.sling.com/1/asset/191928615bd8d47686f94682aefaa007/watchWatch on Vizio - https://www.vizio.com/en/watchfreeplus-exploreWatch on DistroTV - https://www.distro.tv/live/schwab-network/Follow us on X – https://twitter.com/schwabnetworkFollow us on Facebook – https://www.facebook.com/schwabnetworkFollow us on LinkedIn - https://www.linkedin.com/company/schwab-network/ About Schwab Network - https://schwabnetwork.com/about

Send us Fan MailWe sit down with former U.S. Representative Patrick Kennedy to get specific about what a real national mental health strategy looks like and why the current system wastes money while people end up isolated, hospitalized, incarcerated, or living on the streets. We dig into integrated care, schools-based prevention, telehealth, and the rising risks of AI so listeners walk away with practical policy ideas and a clear sense of what needs to change next. • the need for a national blueprint that links housing, healthcare, and community supports • aligning financial incentives so integrated care becomes the default • why siloed budgets drive higher costs in ER use, incarceration, and homelessness • reducing stigma by integrating mental health into standard medical care • building mental health literacy through routine screening and early help in schools • expanding effective therapy access through telehealth and proper reimbursement • fixing cross-state licensure barriers to match patients with the right clinicians • rebuilding social connection as a core mental health intervention • using AI for personalized care while guarding against isolation and lost agency • preparing for AI-driven job disruption and the mental health impact of lost purpose If you know someone who has a story to share, tell them to contact us at why notme.world. Send us Fan MailWe talk with former U.S. representative Patrick Kennedy about why mental health parity still fails in practice and what it takes to make insurers and employers cover care that actually works. We keep coming back to one idea: real change happens when we build power and design a system that rewards early help, long-term outcomes, and community support. • Barriers to full enforcement of the Mental Health Parity and Addiction Equity Act • Why payers respond to penalties more than long-term value • How lobbying, regulation and legal appeals weaken consumer protections • Building political power by organizing families and breaking silos • The business case for early intervention and recovery supports • Why supportive housing and community services can beat revolving-door crisis care • The 90-90-90 by 2033 framework for screening, evidence-based care and recovery • Lessons from the Community Mental Health Act and the cost of dividing communities • Moving from over-medicalized solutions to integration, purpose and connection If you know someone who has a story to share, tell them to contact us at why notme.world.INTRO/OUTRO Music: T. The S&P 500 (SPX) is near record highs, but Patrick Kennedy warns momentum is narrowing and a pullback may be needed before new entries. He favors cybersecurity names like Palo Alto Networks (PANW) and CrowdStrike (CRWD), while also highlighting strength in biotech through the XBI ETF. Patrick Kennedy came into the year long energy, especially natural gas, which powers 43% of electricity in the U.S. He says it “matters more” where oil prices settle in the next few weeks as we figure out how much supply has actually been taken offline. Meanwhile, short-term moves are great for traders, he says. Shifting gears, he discusses risks within private credit, particularly when it comes to software. He doesn't believe AI will “eat” software entirely in the next few years even as he's bullish on AI overall.======== Schwab Network ========Empowering every investor and trader, every market day.Options involve risks and are not suitable for all investors. Patrick Kennedy emphasizes the need for market broadening and is looking more at the equal-weighted S&P 500 index to gauge how long the bull market can run, rather than the cap-weighted. “Bull markets don't die of old age,” he says, but as they age, expectations become harder and harder to beat. “Next year is a show me story” because of this, he adds, with some concern towards earnings growth in 2026. He sees opportunities in natural gas and pipeline companies, along with biotech.======== Schwab Network ========Empowering every investor and trader, every market day.Options involve risks and are not suitable for all investors.
