In this episode, I get to speak with Ron Newcomb. He's an organizer & moderator for the VIP TV & Film Summit, and that's one of the first ways I connected with him. He's a director, writer, actor and producer at The Forge Studios. He's written and directed many award winning shorts and feature length films. And I was like, hey, that's a place that I've been struggling to figure out and have been passionate about for the past, many, many years. How can I get a behind the scenes of what it takes to have a short film that's been produced. how to get out there and connect with people in this field. And I figured Ron is the perfect candidate for us to talk about tv & movie production. Enjoy the episode! Happy Thursday folks! I’ve got another Unlocked Episode of Picture Lock for you. This is a great conversation with Ron Newcomb, indie filmmaker, producer, director, actor and much more. This particular conversation is about his latest endeavor as the founder of the Mid-Atlantic Studios. I made this particular interview an unlocked episode on the podcast simply because of the nature of it. The Mid-Atlantic Studios is a film studio based in the Mid-Atlantic Region (MD, DC, VA, WV, NC, & SC), conducting 100% of the hiring from the region. It’s their believe that if we band together, we can create a more sustainable environment for filmmaking in the region. Ron will explain the concept further in the episode, but in short, Ron is currently doing equity crowdfunding to try and create a sustainable way for filmmakers in the region to work year round on projects that they care about. So take a listen and see if you’d like to be involved! http://youtu.be/0Y4kZdTbasg For our first podcast of the new year, we got to talk to Ron Newcomb about his new movie Rise of the Fellowship. Rise of the Fellowship is not so much a parody, but more a love letter to all things Tolkien. It centres around Randell, a game store employee and avid gamer, who decides to take on an 'epic journey' to compete in a Lord of the Rings Online gaming competition in Florida along with a group of friends. During their 'quest' they lose one of their most precious possessions and must display depths of bravery and heroism that they never thought possible. With the aid of some unexpected allies along the way, the companions fiercely look for certainty that they can reach their destination... In the interview, we talk to Ron about the process of getting permission to create and use actual LotRO game footage for the film, as well as creating independent movies, and the state of the US movie industry in general. This is a very special episode of MovieCopia. We’ve reached our one year anniversary! I want to first thank all of the listeners for joining me on this crazy ride. You have been so supportive and kind over the past year. You guys and girls are the best group I could ask for. Thank you for everything. I wanted to make this episode special. I didn’t want it to just be your average MovieCopia episode. This is the one year show! It had to be epic! Naturally, we needed to have an epic guest. Who better than the lady who was my original partner in crime at the start? We’ve come full circle as Iris returns to the show and we discuss… Gary Daniels! The asskicking Englishman makes his second appearance as we cover the film Hawk’s Vengeance. Does it live up to the high bar set by Fist Of The North Star, our first ever reviewed film? We also have our first ever interview on MovieCopia. I am joined by Ron Newcomb to discuss his soon to be released Lord Of The Rings inspired comedy, Rise Of The Fellowship. I’m very greatful to Ron for taking the time to give us the low-down on this project. Check it out when it’s available everyone. Warning! The end of the show may be a bit sappy as everyone who has ever guested on the show is thanked. Get your tissues ready. Hahaha. We close out the show with a very kind Birthday wish from the fine folks over at Badasses Boobs and Bodycounts. Iris may in fact leave herself a message. I look forward to bringing you another great year of the show. Strap in, it’s going to be a fun ride! Check out Ron's movie! Download the show.
Here is our interview with writer & director Ron Newcomb, and writer and producer Scott Mathias of the film Rise of the Fellowship. Rise of the Fellowship is a film that follows 4 modern day friends as they embark on their own personal quest to save their honor and compete in a Lord of the Rings online gaming competition. The film alludes often to the rings franchise, has been compared to films such as Fanboys and also was the winner of the GenCom film festival. This is a very insightful interview into Ron and Scott's experiences making the film, what they hope you took from it as well as what its like paying homage to such a sacred franchise.
