Manel Kape is performing up to the hype hardcore MMA fans had for him when he signed to the UFC, and has now finished his second consecutive ranked opponent. After stopping Asu Almabayev in the main event of UFC Vegas 103 on Saturday night at the APEX, Kape called for a title shot. Should he get it? Following the UFC's latest Fight Night event, MMA Fighting's Mike Heck reacts to the fight card, Kape's impressive performance against Almabayev, the controversy surrounding a pair of uncalled eye pokes, where Kape goes from here, and if he should get a championship bout next. Additionally, he reacts to the bonus winners, the crazy war between Cody Brundage and Julian Marquez, the ceilings for surging contenders such as Chepe Mariscal and Sam Patterson, the close split decisions on the main card, Andrea Lee losing her record-setting sixth straight fight, and more. Manel Kape ended up with a replacement opponent, took care of business in emphatic—if somewhat controversial—fashion and now looks to still be on track to fight for the UFC flyweight championship. Has he done enough to spoil plans for a rumored Alexandre Pantoja vs. Kai Kara-France title fight? On an all-new edition of On To the Next One, MMA Fighting's Mike Heck and Alexander K. Lee discuss whether the UFC should make a hard pivot to Pantoja vs. Kape, a rematch of a February 2021 bout that Pantoja won by decision in what was Kape's UFC debut. Additionally, future matchups are discussed for Cody Brundage after a wild win over Julian Marquez, under-the-radar lightweight contender Nasrat Haqparast after he scored his fifth straight victory, plus where to go with the undefeated Hyder Amil and the streaking Sam Patterson. All that, plus an avalanche of outstanding listener picks. Follow Mike Heck: @m_heckjr Follow Alexander K. Keith and Ben preview UFC Fight Night 253 with detailed predictions and picks for all 12 fights. Vancouver, BC — Chronic Fatigue, Vancouver's emerging powerhouse in the punk scene, announces the self-release of their second EP, Surrender To Serenity, dropping on November 15th, 2024. Known for their high-octane performances and raw punk ethos, Chronic Fatigue takes a bold sonic leap with this self-produced release, blending their punk roots with influences from post-punk, metal, and experimental hip-hop to create a uniquely immersive sound. This EP was completely self-produced and sees the band expanding from its straight-forward punk rock origins, expanding their sound to include the sounds of post punk, metal, and most importantly, hip hop. The process of writing and recording these four songs was much more collaborative than in the past, and leaning into vocalist Sam Patterson's affinity for and love of experimental hip hop - most notable JPEGMAFIA, Danny Brown and Death Grips - gives the EP an energetic, vibrant sound that feels fresh while still maintaining adhering to the band's central sonic identity. For the four members of Chronic Fatigue - Patterson, guitarist Sean Wilson, bassist Dylan Bondy and drummer Quinn Letendre - the live experience is everything. The band has quickly made a name for themselves, built an ever-growing fanbase and garnered a strong reputation in their local Vancouver music scene as one of the city's most exciting new live acts thanks to their explosive, high energy, and interactive live shows. With Surrender To Serenity, the band strove to capture the intensity, energy, and pure fun of their live shows, while simultaneously pushing their songwriting chops forward. The result is a blistering four tracks filled with hard hitting punk grooves, intricate and confident vocal delivery of lyrics that range from optimistic to introspective to straight up silly, and a sharp blend of hip hop and punk that packs a punch and demands to be witnessed in person. For these new tracks, the band also looked outside their musical influences, citing skate culture as a major influence on their songwriting. “None of us are big time skaters, but our videographer and photographer Liam Tait grew up and started getting into photography and videography in that space. He's had a huge influence on us. He showed me a ton of old skate videos, and I fell in love with the music and the vibes right away. There's a very distinct parallel between punk rock and skating. Obviously pop punk, hardcore and punk have been intertwined with skate videos and games for a long time, but it goes beyond that. Both are tight-knit communities of often rejected outcasts, who are usually misunderstood and pushed aside as a nuisance, when all we wanna do is hang out together, have fun and make a bit of noise!” Photo Credit: Mungo Dulmage D I S C O V E R Youtube: https://www.youtube.com/@ChronicFatigueBandTikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@chronic.fatigue.bandInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/chronic.fatigue.band/Spotify:https://open.spotify.com/artist/6L5nh6JnemjTKRxLDbYNTg?si=MkbWzqSYT7qkaR-N2b2ZVQ This episode is brought to you byGo to BETTERHELP.com/apologue for confidential online counselling.use the code word Apologue for a 7 day free trial Checkout my YouTube Channel with long form interviews from the Subversives | the History of Lowest of the Low. Back in the world of high-performance Financial Planning pros on the FPL Podcast as this week we're joined by Sam Patterson, Managing Director of The Patterson Group! Sam's experience in Financial Planning puts him a cut above the rest when it comes to navigating a career as a Paraplanner. After taking on the role himself, Sam moved into managing a team of successful Paraplanners, and has seen some of his colleagues make serious waves in the world of Paraplanning as a career choice since then. We establish the value of strong back-office support when it comes to running a successful business, highlighting areas which are often overlooked by those focusing solely on their front line, Financial Advisers. Sam now trains, upskills and academically supports Paraplanners looking to excel their career in Financial Planning, meaning he knows he's in a position to give some highly valuable guidance to those in this niche, yet increasingly recognised role. Zane Simon & Connor Ruebusch are here today, March 16th, 2023, with the MMA Vivisection PRELIMS SHOW; breaking down a set of 10 bouts on the massive action-packed UFC 286 PPV card. 'Leon Edwards vs. Kamaru Usman 3' is a 15-bout event... "After the recent UFC 285 PPV extravaganza, UFC 286 looks just a little tiny bit shabbier by comparison. The main event between Kamaru Usman and Leon Edwards is great, as is the co-main between Justin Gaethje and Rafael Fiziev. After that, it's a fine event of solid bookings, just lacking that tiny bit of extra edge, perhaps. Still, expectations should be high that fans will get a great night of fights. For listeners looking to support our podcasting work as Bloody Elbow leaves the VOX network of sites, we now officially have a 'Vivisection/6th Round/MMA Depressed-us' Patreon. Both event week shows will continue to be posted, for free on BE, SoundCloud, YouTube and other podcasting apps going forward. However, the Patreon will give fans exclusive access to our non-event week show, 'The MMA Depressed-us Podcast', from here on out." - Zane Simon 3.16.23 Become a devoted degenerate Patron here: https://patreon.com/mmavivisection?utm_medium=clipboard_copy&utm_source=copyLink&utm_campaign=creatorshare_fan&utm_content=join_link For those fans who wish to dive deeper into the 5 bouts on the MAIN PPV CARD, check out that version of the MMA Vivi every Thursday, right here on our Substack. The MMA Vivisection Shows: 'Main Card Preview' & 'Prelims Card Preview'
Zane Simon & Connor Ruebusch are here today, March 16th, 2023, with the MMA Vivisection MAIN CARD SHOW; breaking down a set of 5 bouts on the massive action-packed UFC 286 PPV card. 'Leon Edwards vs. Kamaru Usman 3' is a 15-bout event..."After the recent UFC 285 PPV extravaganza, UFC 286 looks just a little tiny bit shabbier by comparison. However, the Patreon will give fans exclusive access to our non-event week show, 'The MMA Depressed-us Podcast', from here on out." - Zane Simon 3.16.23 Become a devoted degenerate Patron here: https://patreon.com/mmavivisection?utm_medium=clipboard_copy&utm_source=copyLink&utm_campaign=creatorshare_fan&utm_content=join_link For those fans who wish to dive deeper into the 10 bouts on the PRELIMS CARDS, check out that version of the MMA Vivi every Thursday, right here on our Substack. Will Smith, at the height of his powers, encounters a production that not even his voluminous charisma can salvage. He turned down the role of Neo in The Matrix to do this movie! Sam and Brett join to talk about the lazy and horrible race/gender jokes, and we debate the issue of whether Kenneth Branaugh's Arliss Loveless is the best or the worst part of this movie. Is he doing the BEST acting? He's certainly doing the MOST.
In this episode, it's all about the Dad's as we chat to Sam Patterson of All Time Dads who tells us how Dads can flick the switch between work and life so they can be present with their family for the moments that count. If you're a father or have a partner or co-partner who wants some tips on how to be more present with your family, then this is the episode for you.
This week performance coach and founder of All-Time Dads, Sam Patterson, takes us through how he's helping fathers bridge the gap between where they are now and where they want to be.During this conversation Sam unpacks his approach to helping dads show up as their best (or All-Time) selves. His Fast-Track program has six main pillars:* Pillar One is being inspired and that is around showing up at your best and knowing what your best looks and feels like.* Pillar Two is about being intentional for how you show up in your day, so you can be at your best more often than not. * Pillar Three is about being balanced, having the boundaries in place that support you to achieve your goals. * Pillar Four is being connected and being able to deepen and strengthen relationships with the people that you care about. * Pillar Five is fun. Fun's always on the short list, but it often never makes the final cut.* Pillar Six is courage in the sense of being able to go after what you want in life. We also cover being deliberate, using visualisation to gain a clear sense of what it really looks like to show up at your best and how our reticular activating system can be used to our advantage. If you'd like to find out more about Sam or get in touch with him visit: www.alltimedads.comI hope you enjoy this chat with Sam.Big hug,Rich This is a public episode. Beyond the Hour of Code – The TeacherCast Educational Network
Welcome to Beyond the Hour of Code, I am your host Dr. Sam Patterson, makerspace teacher and author of Programming in the Primary Grades, Beyond the Hour of Code. Not everyone is super excited about coding, especially teachers. My love is learning, self-directed, creative, expressive learning. Code and things you can code are just one of the many tools I use in my space. (I have not yet written the beyond material for sewing and puppets, it is coming)- So what I want to chat about today, the conversation I want to start is about what code is doing in our classes, and how we, as teachers, can respond to the public pressure to code in a way that serves our highest pedagogical goals. I talk about those a bunch my “Highest Pedagogical Goals” These are big picture goals like “Teach kids to read” “help kids develop the social skills to treat each other with kindness” The simple fact is that unless you are teaching a computer science class, you won’t be teaching your kids to code so that they can learn about coding. Also- You will have to teach some of your kids to code. My school is an award winner in tech integration, and my students complain that I don’t teach them enough code before asking them to do things with it. This is true. I give direct instruction and practice short shrift and I rush to building something that does something for someone. I interrupt them as they work to show them specific things and as they learn things I didn’t know I have them teach the class. This isn’t comfortable for most of us. Have you seen the drawing of a person with a circle around them labeled “comfort zone” and the X far outside the circle that says “You Are Here?” This is the land of coding in elementary school. While some of the kids and some of the teachers enjoy the challenge of logic puzzles and the rewards built into them, for many teacher and students the coding games and tutorials we find have little relationship to the world beyond the screen. They feel disconnected, and generic, and cutesy, like a worksheet. What I strive for instead is a learning experience that takes a simple concept and uses the code platform to play with the concept and connect with other learning we have been doing. Sometimes this might be a ScratchJr “code the aquarium” challenge to have the kids learn loops and apply what they have been learning about fish. Other times we might use a hummingbird robotics kit to recreate a scene from the Berenstain Bears classic “The Spooky Old Tree.” Instead of relying on the leveled app or challenge to engage the kids, I build my own frame. I create a lousy sample program.* (Always make a minimum, or don’t show them your fancy work, I find that “I could do better than that” is a really productive mindset for kids, especially when compared to “I could never do anything that cool”) I show the kids the lousy sample and leave the code where they can get it to copy, modify, remix, etc. I do this because I want the kids in my class to spend the time in my class to do things that are specific to my class. I don’t want kids sitting in an app they could do anywhere clicking through screens, that is just giving my time away to an app builder in hopes that their app meets my learning goals. Often the only goal this meets is the external demand for coding. When our schools and communities call for “coding for all” or “coding in every classroom,” our job as teachers is to make sure that coding, like every other tool that enters our classroom, serves the highest goals we have for our students during the time we share. I find that focusing on the job the coding is doing (to show, to explain, to model, to storytelling, to control something) more than the code itself – keeps my kids focused on the higher goals. This allows them access to success even if there is something not yet working with the programming. If you only define success by who makes it to level 25 for the app, you may be able to...

Beyond the Hour of Code – The TeacherCast Educational Network
Welcome to Beyond the Hour of Code!Hello and welcome to the first episode of a brand new Podcast called Beyond the Hour of Code. If you are an educator or parent looking for information about how to enhance your classroom lessons and activities through STEM education, robotics activities (https://www.teachercast.net/tcp155-dexter-industries-gopigo-robots/) , this is the podcast for you. First of all, thank you for clicking on the link and checking out this post. My name is Sam Patterson and together, we will take a journey through the simplistically complex world of coding and programming and learn how to help your kids learn these vital 21st-Century skills. Why teach Coding and Programming? Scratch (https://www.teachercast.net/tcp120-scratch-based-programming/) , describes programming as a medium of learning and comprehension building. When students are asked to program fish to swim in a coral reef they are going to ask how a starfish swims. They will wonder if a whale belongs in the reef. They will ask the other student in their table group what color they should make the seahorse. Students will get the books off the shelf and look up the images and stories the class has shared in order to make an accurate model. Programming this challenge instead of making a poster allows the students to move past the simple question of “what is it” to more advanced questions like “What does it do?” and “How does it relate to the rest of the environment.” Programming is a vehicle that allows teachers to help students develop a more complete understanding of any subject. At it's most integrated, programming becomes just another way we have students process information. In the youngest grades, programming slows them down enough to enforce procedural thinking. Why create a podcast to support coding and programming in the classroom? Programming in the Primary Grades: Beyond the Hour of Code (https://www.teachercast.net/product/1475825447/US/teach00-20/?cart=y) .” which was written to help you learn how to create the same activities that I provide to my students. Programming in the Primary Grades: Beyond the Hour of Code (https://www.teachercast.net/product/1475825447/US/teach00-20/?cart=y) will explain all of the platforms available and help teachers develop their own sequence of activities and skills that move students from leveled apps into content area lessons in open studio apps. By the end of this book, teachers should have a good understanding of several basic types of programming-based content area lessons and their own list of ready-to-roll lessons to support learning. The multi-grade focus of the text is designed to help teachers see how programming skills build year over year. It can also help teachers develop an understanding for how programming skills are applied to content area learning and how that changes from one year of instruction to the next. Just like math, reading, and writing, once teachers see how this knowledge and practice builds over years, they can release themselves of the responsibility of teaching “all” of programming. We use robots (https://www.teachercast.net/stem-education-can-really-bring-robotics-general-education-classroom-meetedison/) to layer social learning goals on top of prior learning goals. Let's take this journey togetherThere are literally hundreds of thousands of podcasts on iTunes, but there is only one podcast that will help you learn how to bring challenging and exciting coding and programming lessons to the students that you work with each and every day. Please take a moment and click on the Subscribe button on the right side of this blog post and join me each week for Beyond the Hour of Code, the podcast.
Teachers don’t have to be experts or “geeks” to use coding to improve literacy, use higher order thinking skills, and excite students in their classrooms. Jeff sits down with Terri Schwartzbeck and Sam Patterson to discuss the Alliance for Excellent Education, Digital Learning Day and how you can have a Future Ready School. About the Alliance for Excellent EducationThe Alliance for Excellent Education is a Washington, DC–based national policy and advocacy organization dedicated to ensuring that all students, particularly those who are traditionally underserved, graduate from high school ready for success in college, work, and citizenship. The Alliance focuses on America's six million most at-risk secondary school students—those in the lowest achievement quartile—who are most likely to leave school without a diploma or to graduate unprepared for a productive future. Started in 2012, Digital Learning Day has provided a powerful venue for education leaders to highlight great teaching practice and showcase innovative teachers, leaders, and instructional technology programs that are improving student outcomes. This grassroots effort blossomed into a massive nationwide celebration as teachers realized that Digital Learning Day is not about technology, it's about learning. Digital Learning Day promotes the effective use of modern day tools afforded to every other industry to improve the learning experience in K-12 public schools. What if a technology existed that allowed anybody in the world to trade with anybody else in the world - whatever they want, whenever they want, and without permission from anybody else. What would the world look like? What would the political and economic implications be? That technology is currently being created, and my very own brother has co-founded a company to develop it.

IN THIS EPISODE A few days at the Porcupine Freedom Festival in New Hampshire netted a load of wonderful connections, some very interesting insights and a few very relevant interviews, from the perspective of the technology and choice pair. First up in this episode is Sam Patterson, Chief Operating Officer of OB1, the company developing the Open Bazaar protocol and ecosystem. Sam shares some insights about the ideals of peer-to-peer commerce, shares some very encouraging news about the current real-world successes of the platform, and shares exciting news about the near future, which will make the ecosystem tons better still. Next we spend some quality time with Larken Rose discussing his very ambitious and fabulously important project, The Mirror. This could be one of the most important projects in existence for opening human potential, so listen up and consider pitching in. Finally, we speak with Jeremy Kauffman of LBRY (pronounced "library"). With their imminent launch of the LBRY platform, listeners are in a unique position to get in on the ground floor of what I found to be one of the most exciting practical applications of blockchain technology to come along recently. Content distribution is about to get a really great tool that everyone can use, even the "big guys." Listen for how to get an inside track on the launch for listening to this podcast. We also touch on his unique personal and professional journey and his decision to unschool his kids.
On today’s show, due to a serious lack of time, I ask my listeners to forgive me for repeating a past show. I’ll be at the Texas Bitcoin Conference in Austin this weekend and will be back next week with a slammin show that is sure to make you stand up and shout Yee Haa!!!! On today's show I travel to San Diego to speak with Paul Puey, the CEO and co-founder of Airbitz.co, a mobile and web app company soon to be launching a Bitcoin wallet on iOS and Android. Airbitz is also a business directory that helps you find merchants in 14 different countries where bitcoin is accepted. Paul talks to us about the launch of their bitcoin wallet in a few weeks and how the Airbitz wallet differs fundamentally from many other bitcoin wallets. I also speak with Sam Patterson, the Operations Lead for OpenBazaar.org. Open Bazaar is an open source project to create a decentralized network for commerce online using Bitcoin that has NO fees and cannot be censored. Sam talks to us about Multisig addresses, notaries, arbiters and how the peer to peer transactions and open source code of OpenBazaar is going to change how we buy and sell on the internet. In this interview we will find out if it's possible for a notary and arbitration network to actually replace Trust! Magic Word Hidden in each episode of Bitcoins and Gravy is a Magic Word. Bitcoins and Gravy Episode #36: Airbitz.co & OpenBazaar.org On today’s show I travel to San Diego to speak with Paul Puey, the CEO and co-founder of Airbitz.co, a mobile and web app company soon to be launching a Bitcoin wallet on iOS and Android. Open Bazaar is an open source project to create a decentralized network for commerce online using Bitcoin – that has NO fees and cannot be censored. Sam talks to us about Multisig addresses, notaries, arbiters and how the peer to peer transactions and open source code of OpenBazaar is going to change how we buy and sell on the internet. In this interview we will find out if it’s possible for a notary and arbitration network to actually replace Trust! In this episode, Jon Samuelson @ipadsammy, Sam Patterson @sampatue, Wokka Patue @wokkapatue, and George Couros @gcouros reenact a conversation between Sal Khan and Arne Duncan. The two "wonder boys" of education, because I wonder how they got to where they are, did a Google Hangout interview. They are so innovative. The talk was so full of patting each other on the back and mutual admiration that it made me ill. So we asked the same questions to a real educator, George Couros. The results from the same questions were much more inspiring.
