In this episode of Two Pastors and a Mic, we tackle something that rarely gets questioned—but is often praised in church culture: self-reliance.You know the person… the one who handles everything, never asks for help, always shows up, carries the weight, and pushes through no matter what. We call them strong. Faithful. Dependable. But what if constantly carrying everything alone isn't actually strength? What if it's a trauma response? In this conversation, Cory and Channock unpack the deeper roots of self-reliance—how it can be driven by fear of being a burden, fear of being let down, or a deep desire to feel needed, valued, and accepted. They also get honest about their own struggles with this, from “Superman syndrome” to workaholism to the tension of expecting others to match what you give. But the heart of this episode is the shift from self-reliance to shared life—the kind of life Jesus modeled and the early church embodied through “one anothering” each other well.If you've ever said “I've got it,” when you really didn't… this episode is for you.In this episode:Why self-reliance often gets praised as spiritual maturityThe hidden roots: fear, rejection, loneliness, and controlThe emotional cost of carrying everything aloneHow self-reliance can actually block connectionWhat Jesus modeled instead: shared life and mutual supportA powerful question to ask: Am I meant to carry this alone?Practical steps to start letting people in00:00 - Welcome + Podcast Intro00:40 - Series Overview: Godly Thought or Trauma Response01:35 - Today's Topic: Self-Reliance02:17 - Why Self-Reliance Gets Praised02:52 - Roots of Self-Reliance (People-Pleasing, Rejection, Loneliness)04:04 - Personal Struggle: Superman Imposter Syndrome05:16 - The “Should” Trap + Emotional Tension06:19 - When Others Don't Meet Your Expectations07:11 - Hard Question: Not Asking for Help07:57 - Impatience + Doing It Alone08:50 - Workaholic Tendencies + Selective Help09:33 - “I've Got It” Mentality Explained10:02 - Fear of Being a Burden or Let Down10:40 - The Cost: Self-Reliance Blocks Connection11:09 - Leadership Struggles + Fragilizing Others12:05 - Growth Through Asking for Help (RElife Story)14:12 - Why Asking for Help Is So Hard15:01 - The Lie: Easier Doesn't Mean Healthier15:38 - The Shift: From Self-Reliance to Shared Life16:25 - One Anothering: The Early Church Model17:52 - You Were Never Meant to Do Life Alone18:47 - Practical Step: Ask a Better Question21:31 - Be Specific + Be Okay Hearing “No”22:03 - Real Strength = Connection, Not Isolation22:39 - Closing Encouragement

Episode #312 of 15 Minutes and a Big Idea. A Podcast by The Mended Collective. In this episode, we take a step back and summarize the material from 1 Corinthians 13:6-7. This week on Pivot The Path, we take inspiration from the epic gold-medal win by the United States men's national ice hockey team — their first in 46 years — and explore what it teaches us about elite performance across all sports, especially golf. From hockey to the fairways, the lesson is the same: championships aren't built on highlight moments — they're built on preparation, trust, and showing up when it matters. We dive into why consistency isn't a mindset — it's a movement skill. Why elite players understand their miss before chasing their max. And how predictable patterns beat perfect swings every time.If you're tired of hunting distance and hero shots, this episode reframes improvement around what actually lowers scores: better movement, smarter practice, and owning your process. Because talent opens doors — but reliability keeps you in the game.Move better. Play efficiently. Own Your SSWING.Shop SSWING Swag
You've been told you're exceptional. Dependable. The one they can count on.And you are.But what if the very trait that made you indispensable… is the thing quietly capping your authority? This episode is not about time management. It's not about delegation hacks or color-coding your calendar. It's about identity. Specifically, the identity of being “the reliable one” - and why that role feels powerful while simultaneously keeping you boxed in.If you're the leader who:Rewrites the deck before it goes upstairs so no one looks sloppySmooths tension in meetings before it becomes visibleFixes the half-baked idea instead of letting it breatheAbsorbs emotional undercurrents like it's part of your job descriptionFeels constantly “on,” even when you're technically offThis conversation is for you. We're unpacking the over-functioning pattern that so many high-capacity women fall into - not because they're weak, but because they're competent. Because they care. Because somewhere along the way, leadership fused with self-sacrifice.Here's the uncomfortable truth:When you are the emotional glue, you are rarely the strategic threat.Systems love the fixer. They reward the stabilizer. They pile responsibility onto the one who makes everything run smoothly. But authority?Authority doesn't go to the person who keeps everything comfortable. It goes to the person willing to let discomfort surface long enough to redesign the structure.Inside this episode, we explore:The hidden contract of reliability (and why it keeps you typecast)What actually happens when you stop rescuingWhy letting things “wobble” is data, not disasterThe ego hit of no longer being the heroThe difference between indispensability and impactAnd five practical shifts to move from shock absorber… to architectBecause here's the real question:Have you built a team — or have you built a dynamic where you are the safety net for everyone else's growth?
Sermon by Ant Frederick on February 22, 2026. Key scripture: Titus 2:2 This sermon explores Paul's call in Titus 2:2 for older men to be sober minded, dignified, and self controlled. These qualities describe a life shaped from the inside out, where emotions, desires, and reactions are brought under the rule of Christ. Mature men display steadiness, reliability, and self-mastery in a way that makes them trusted by those around them.

What if manhood isn’t something you master – but something you grow into? In a culture that praises independence and performance, many men are silently struggling, unsure of their place, unclear about their purpose, and exhausted from trying to figure it out alone. "Skills of an Unskilled Laborer" is an honest, biblical roadmap through the four essential stages of Christian manhood: Dependent, Independent, Dependable and Loving. In this episode, recorded in the rugged beauty of West Texas, Larry Weishuhn is joined by a true icon of the outdoor industry: Fred Eichler. Known for his boundless energy and his show Everything Eichler, Fred sits down at the campfire to discuss the evolution of hunting, from traditional archery to the rise of technology. The two legends swap compliments and stories, discussing the art of getting close to game—whether with a recurve bow or a handgun—and the vital importance of "woodsmanship" in the modern era. The conversation concludes with a strong message about unity among hunters, the importance of firearms safety education, and the necessity of the NRA. [00:00] Intro & Sponsors: Larry welcomes listeners back to camp in West Texas. [01:15] Legends Collide: Fred and Larry discuss their mutual respect. Fred shares how Larry's writing and TV presence influenced him growing up, viewing Larry as the "Whitetail Guru." [03:30] The Evolution of a Hunter: Fred talks about starting with shotguns and .22s under his father's guidance before gravitating toward bowhunting for the challenge. [05:45] Handguns vs. Bows: A comparison of short-range hunting methods. Fred expresses his admiration for Larry's proficiency with a handgun, noting that it requires the same stalking skills as archery. [08:00] Woodsmanship: Larry laments the shift from relying on instinct ("what's between the ears") to relying on technology ("fingertips"), and the importance of knowing how to navigate the wild without GPS. [12:20] The Africa Connection: How Larry inspired Fred's dreams of hunting Africa. They share a laugh about the "weird stuff" they've eaten in bush camps, from snakes to "little dickey birds." [14:45] The Second Amendment: A serious look at the role of the NRA. Fred emphasizes that the NRA is the most significant organization protecting gun rights and stresses the importance of safety education for children. [18:00] Unity in the Field: The need for all gun owners—whether they hunt with bows, rifles, or handguns—to belong to the NRA to protect the future of the lifestyle. "I hate to say 'growing up,' but watching you handle yourself on TV, your articles, your books... you backed it with knowledge." — Fred Eichler to Larry Weishuhn "Years ago, we took what you had between this ear and this ear, and that's what you used. Now... we've put it at fingertips. Somewhere down the way, those buttons are not going to work." — Larry Weishuhn on modern technology vs. woodsmanship "A firearm has never hurt anybody... until it gets into somebody's hands and they determine what they're going to do with it." — Fred Eichler "The finest people in the world are out there, those who love the outdoors." — Larry Weishuhn This episode is brought to you by: DSC (Dallas Safari Club): Conservation, Education, and Advocacy. In this episode, Larry Weishuhn sits down in the wilds of West Texas with Jeff Johnston of the NRA and American Hunter. Recorded on a sprawling 40,000-acre cattle ranch near the Mexican border, the two discuss the unique challenges of hunting the "fan-tailed" Carmen Mountain Whitetail in the high desert. Larry and Jeff swap stories about the rugged terrain, the necessity of quality optics, and the diverse wildlife of the Chihuahuan Desert. The conversation then turns to a passionate discussion about the vital importance of the Second Amendment, the role of the NRA, and why unity among gun owners is critical for the future of the United States. [00:00] Intro & Sponsors: Larry introduces the show from the high-elevation desert of West Texas. [02:00] The Landscape: Discussing the "spine-filled" vegetation and diverse wildlife of the Chihuahuan Desert (Javelina, Mule Deer, Elk, Black Bear, and Quail). [04:15] The Carmen Mountain Whitetail: Larry explains the biology of this unique subspecies—smaller than a Coues deer but with a tail the size of a standard whitetail. [06:30] Hunting Stories: Jeff recounts his successful hunt and Larry jokes about "double drop tines." Mentions of Fred Eichler's success in camp. [09:45] Tactics & Gear: The importance of "glassing" in vast country. Discussion on optics (Stealth Vision), rifles, and the necessity of flat-shooting calibers (.270, 7x57, 6.5) and accurate ammo (Hornady). [14:20] The Second Amendment: A serious pivot to the state of gun rights. Larry emphasizes why the 2nd Amendment is the backbone of American freedom. [16:00] The NRA's Role: Why the NRA remains the strongest lobbying organization due to its membership base, not just money. [18:30] Call to Action: Larry urges listeners to write handwritten letters to legislators and maintain membership in gun rights organizations. [21:00] What's Next: Larry discusses his upcoming hunts in Oklahoma and Texas. "Everything here, for the most part, has got spines, stickers... if you look at our hands, you can probably see all the scratches." — Larry Weishuhn "To me, anything that scores 85 or better is one heck of a deer." — Larry Weishuhn on the Carmen Mountain Whitetail "Without the Second Amendment and our ability to own guns, this country will not exist in a relatively short period of time." — Larry Weishuhn This episode is brought to you by: DSC (Dallas Safari Club): Conservation, Education, and Advocacy. Design was supposed to be creative work. For a lot of designers, it's turned into endurance. In this episode, I'm joined by Vivianne Castillo to unpack how corporate design culture quietly rewards burnout, why endurance gets mistaken for professionalism, and how designers can start reclaiming creativity, agency, and choice. What if the behaviors that made you successful in design are the same ones slowly disconnecting you from yourself?Design culture loves to celebrate resilience, but too often what's really being rewarded is endurance: tolerating vague feedback, late pivots, constant urgency, and emotional labor without complaint. In this conversation, Vivianne Castillo shares why so many designers feel drained, disconnected, and quietly shrinking inside roles that were supposed to be creative and human-centered.Vivianne draws on her background in trauma counseling, psychology, and design to explain how corporate UX environments often reward unhealed coping patterns—people-pleasing, hyper-vigilance, over-responsibility, and self-silencing—while calling it “professionalism.” The work still gets done, praise still comes, but the cost is creativity, curiosity, and a sense of agency. We also talk about what it actually looks like to take that agency back. Not through dramatic exits or rage-quitting, but through small, intentional experiments: setting boundaries, asking better questions, redefining security, and exploring entrepreneurial paths without burning everything down. If your design job feels more like survival than creation, this episode is for you.Topics:• 04:57 – Vivian's Journey• 07:16 – The Toxicity in UX Culture• 19:14 – Reclaiming Agency as Designers• 29:20 – Unhealed Patterns in the Workplace• 31:13 – Understanding Corporate Culture and Personal Responsibility• 32:01 – Self-Silencing and Professionalism• 32:30 – Endurance vs. Resilience• 33:04 – Updating Unhealed Behaviors• 35:34 – Navigating Toxic Workplaces• 37:14 – The Illusion of Job Security• 43:09 – Entrepreneurship as a Healing Experience• 43:37 – The Walkout Event for UX ProfessionalsHelpful Links:• Connect with Vivianne on LinkedIn• Join the Walkout—Thanks for listening! The Southeastern 16 crew previews the playoff game between Tulane and Ole Miss. Topics include: It's a rematch in a game Ole Miss won, 45-10, earlier in the year, while dominating the stat sheet in that one. The Rebels are an eyelash away from five 500-yard receivers to catch passes from dual-threat star Trinidad Chambliss. Dependable running back Kewan Lacy has been punishing defenses all year with physical play. Tulane coach Jon Sumrall will finish his run in New Orleans before leaving for Florida, while Ole Miss is in its first game under Pete Golding, its former defensive coordinator who's retaining offensive coordinator Charlie Weis for the Playoff. Ole Miss's defense has been quietly underrated. Dual-thread quarterback Jake Retzlaff leads the Green Wave offense. In this episode, Tanya and Sabrina explore what it means to embody Earth energy—the qualities that keep us steady, grounded, and dependable when life gets chaotic.Building on last week's episode about Air (and the unskillful energy of lying), Tanya and Sabrina unpack how Earth brings structure, trust, and stability back into our relationships—especially between moms and teens. They share a real-life moment where trust was tested and how grounding practices, honesty, and consistency helped rebuild it.Tanya explains how Earth represents the physical world, structure, and stability—and how too much of it can make us rigid, while too little leaves us scattered. Sabrina shares her take on what it feels like when things get too “earthy” (stubbornness, guilt, or control), and how we can soften that energy with awareness and compassion.Together, they reflect on how Earth energy helps us navigate “the juggle” of modern family life—work, school, friendships, and responsibilities—with more patience, steadiness, and connection.Timestamps / Chapters00:00 – Introduction: Welcome to The Juggle Is Real00:18 – Element Recap: From Air (Lies) to Earth (Truth & Trust)01:00 – What Is the Earth Element? Peter starts his letter to the scattered exiles in ancient Turkey by giving a dependable identity. Identity helps people in the midst of their uncertainty and hopelessness. In the next part of the letter, Peter expands on their identity, telling them that they are holy, and out of their holy identity they are to live holy. Holy living honors Jesus, but it is dependable, too, able to see us through the trials and uncertainties of life. In this message, Pastor Joel unpacks Peter's description of holy, dependable living and gives the perfect example of someone living it out smack dab in the middle of suffering and uncertainty: Jesus himself.
Sal slammed the Mets' pitching staff, expressing his disbelief at their inability to build a reliable rotation and bullpen with only ten games left in the regular season. The team's constant shuffling of pitchers between the majors and minors, combined with injuries and a lack of clear roles, has created a chaotic situation that he believes is unsustainable for a playoff push. Sal was particularly critical of the statement that the team will "take the best thirteen guys," challenging anyone to actually find thirteen pitchers they can trust for the postseason, a task he considers impossible given the current state of the staff.

There is no shortage of options in the digital watch world today. From watches loaded with more technological features than most people could ever hope to use to models and brands with basic weather and navigational capabilities included, there's a digital option to suit most budgets. But where do we draw the line on tech reliance in the field? Especially when our phones and satellite messaging devices can already do so much? Enter traditional tool watches. Simple. Practical. Rugged. Dependable. Do we really need more from our timepieces? There seems to be more and more interest in classic or traditional watches today, but a lot of that content focuses on fairly high-end brands that many of you will recognize and maybe can't afford. But for 80+ years, a Canadian company, leveraging Swiss manufacturing has been quietly but confidently building watches for the most demanding and extreme use cases and customers. And they come at a price that most people can manage, especially when compared to the cost of a lot of the other hunting/outdoor gear we spend our money on. Marathon Watch has an incredible history and legacy within the watch community and, if you've never heard of them before, we hope this episode exposes you to a brand that should be a household name within our community too. NOTABLE QUOTES: “One of our customers was deployed in the Middle East when his convoy was caught in an IED.
