On May 17, 1998, David Wells showed up to Yankee Stadium having slept maybe two and a half hours, running on coffee, a single pancake, and whatever was left of Saturday night. He then threw the 15th perfect game in Major League Baseball history in front of 49,820 people who were mostly there for a Beanie Baby. That's the story this week. We go deep on the whole thing — the legendary SNL after-party that didn't happen, the cast members who swear they were there and provably weren't, the Mandela Effect that turned one hungover pitcher into baseball mythology, and what Wells actually did in the nine years after the game nobody thought he had left in him. Also in this episode: Rickey Henderson and Jim Rice stop by Letterman to deliver a top 10 list, Steve Garvey turns up as an extra in The Godfather Part II, Wade Boggs earns his nickname on the set of Cheers, and we finally finish that pack of 2003 Topps with Alfonso Soriano, Shawn Green, Al Leiter, and Sean Casey. Topics include: David Wells perfect game, 1998 New York Yankees, SNL Mandela Effect, Jimmy Fallon David Wells party, Beanie Baby day Yankee Stadium, Chuck Knoblauch throwing yips, Tim McClelland umpire, Don Larsen perfect game, Dock Ellis no-hitter, Dallas Braden perfect game, David Cone knuckleball, Rickey Henderson Hall of Fame, Wade Boggs Cheers, Steve Garvey Godfather, 2003 Topps baseball cards, baseball history podcast, Two Strike Noise 00:00 Open 01:06 Rickey & Rice on Letterman 05:26 Garvey in Godfather 07:18 Boggs on Cheers 10:10 Towel Toss Ejection 12:40 Wells Perfect Game Intro 15:48 Gout and Yankees Context 19:10 The Mystery Party Night 23:28 Hangover to Perfection 30:37 Perfect Game Tension 33:00 Knoblauch Saves It 34:23 Twins Stall Tactics 35:26 Ninth Inning Drama 37:31 Perfect Game Celebration 38:51 Aftermath And Trivia 45:06 SNL Mandela Effect 47:33 Wax Pack Heroes Returns 01:00:50 Final Cards Winner 01:04:11 Wrap Up And Plugs Connect With Us YouTube: www.youtube.com/@twostrikenoise Twitch: https://www.twitch.tv/twostrikenoise BlueSky: @twostrikenoise.bsky.social Email: twostrikenoise@gmail.com Support a Great Cause: Don't let your common cards collect dust! What do you do when life knocks you down so hard that everything feels broken? The truth is that some of the greatest comebacks in the world are built in those exact moments. In this mashup episode, I bring together powerful conversations with people who have stared adversity straight in the face and found a way to rise again. If you've ever felt like life dealt you a hand that was impossible to play, this episode will remind you that your story is far from over. Sometimes the very thing that breaks you is the same thing that rebuilds you stronger than you've ever been before. You're going to hear from people who have lived through moments most of us can't even imagine. Damar Hamlin opens up about surviving one of the most shocking moments in sports history and how gratitude and purpose helped redefine his life after nearly losing it. Rich Diviney shares the difference between skills and attributes, and why the traits that carry us through the darkest seasons are often the ones forged in hardship. Robert O'Neill talks about operating under unimaginable pressure and how discipline and clarity help you keep moving forward even when everything around you feels chaotic. David Meltzer brings his powerful perspective on finding meaning in pain and how gratitude can shift the entire trajectory of your life. Sean Casey shares lessons from the world of professional baseball about failure, resilience, and why the setbacks you experience are often preparing you for your greatest breakthroughs. And Nick Santonastasso delivers one of the most inspiring reminders you will ever hear about refusing to let circumstances define what's possible for your life. As I prepared this episode, I kept coming back to a simple but profound truth. Your life is a miracle. Thousands of generations had to exist just to get to you, and that alone should remind you how precious your opportunity is to live fully and intentionally. When life feels heavy and the challenges feel overwhelming, perspective can change everything. You have the power to rebuild, to reset, and to become the one who changes the trajectory of your family's future. If you're walking through a difficult season right now, this episode is for you. These conversations will remind you that broken moments are not the end of your story. They are often the beginning of your transformation. Key Takeaways Why the most difficult moments in life often become the foundation for your greatest growth Damar Hamlin's perspective on gratitude and purpose after surviving a life changing moment Rich Diviney's insight on the attributes that help people perform under extreme adversity Robert O'Neill's lessons on staying focused and composed in high pressure situations David Meltzer's framework for transforming pain into purpose and opportunity Sean Casey's reminder that failure is often the greatest teacher on the road to success Nick Santonastasso's powerful example of refusing to let circumstances define your potential How perspective can completely change how you experience challenges in your life

What if the real secret to an unbreakable mindset isn't motivation, confidence, or talent but preparation done so relentlessly that pressure has nowhere to land? In this mashup episode, I bring together some of the most mentally tough competitors and leaders I've ever sat down with to break down what it truly takes to build a bulletproof mindset before the moment arrives. This is not about hype or temporary motivation. This is about the unseen work that creates certainty when everything is on the line. When preparation becomes your identity, fear loses its grip and pressure turns into fuel. You're going to hear from Andre Ward on what separates champions from contenders when the lights are brightest, and why mental toughness is earned long before the first bell rings. Sean Casey shares how consistency and routine create confidence in moments when self doubt tries to creep in. Dabo Swinney breaks down how preparation builds belief not just in yourself, but in your team, your system, and your mission. You'll also hear from Michael Chandler, who explains how he trains his mind to stay calm in chaos and perform at his highest level under extreme pressure. Terrell Owens opens up about the discipline, focus, and self trust required to thrive when expectations are massive and criticism is loud. And Ryan Hawk brings it all together with insights on how elite performers prepare daily so confidence becomes automatic, not situational. I want you to understand something. Confidence is not something you wait for. It is something you manufacture through preparation. When you know you have done the work, your mind becomes steady, your decisions become clearer, and your performance becomes inevitable. This episode will challenge you to raise your standard for preparation so high that doubt simply cannot survive in your presence. This mashup is for anyone who wants to stop hoping they will show up strong and start knowing they will. If you want a mindset that does not crack under pressure, this is your blueprint. Key Takeaways: Why preparation is the true source of confidence and mental toughness How elite performers train their minds long before the moment matters The role of discipline and routine in eliminating fear and hesitation How belief is built through reps, not positive thinking Why pressure exposes preparation, it does not create performance How to build certainty that travels with you into every arena of life If you want to perform at your best when it counts most, this episode will show you how to prepare like it already matters.

How to Master Your Emotions and Unlock Unstoppable Power What if the real strength you've been searching for isn't about control, it's about release? In this mashup episode, I'm bringing together some of the most powerful conversations I've ever had about emotional mastery, healing, and the kind of resilience that transforms pain into power. You're going to hear from men who've walked through darkness, faced loss, battled their inner demons, and came out stronger, not by suppressing emotion, but by finally learning how to feel. Jason Wilson opens up about the true cost of hyper-masculinity and why the most courageous thing a man can do is cry, heal, and lead from his heart. Lewis Howes shares how facing childhood trauma set him free and how vulnerability became the gateway to real strength. Sean Casey reveals how mastering his emotional state, pitch by pitch, created longevity and excellence in the game of life. Les Brown walks us through the power of forgiveness, reminding us that anger is a wind that blows out the lamp of the mind. Brian Dawkins shares how he channeled emotion into focused energy, becoming one of the fiercest competitors and most grounded men I've ever met. And James Lawrence, the Iron Cowboy, shows what happens when the mind adapts and the heart refuses to quit, even when the body breaks down. Every one of these conversations points back to one truth I've learned over and over again: mastering your emotions doesn't mean controlling them, it means owning them. It's learning when to fight, when to cry, and when to let go. It's realizing that emotional intelligence is the foundation of every championship performance, every strong relationship, and every fulfilled life. If you've ever felt stuck in anger, fear, or shame, this episode will help you see that your emotions aren't your enemy, they're your greatest teachers. Healing begins when you stop pretending you're fine and start getting real about what's inside. Because the moment you master your emotions, you unlock your next level of peace, clarity, and power. Key Takeaways: Why real strength comes from emotional awareness, not suppression (Jason Wilson) How vulnerability frees you from shame and creates connection (Lewis Howes) The emotional discipline that separates top performers from the rest (Sean Casey) The secret to forgiveness and freedom from past pain (Les Brown) How to channel emotion into fuel for purpose and energy (Brian Dawkins) The mindset that turns pain into perseverance and endurance (James Lawrence) This episode is for anyone ready to stop fighting their emotions and start mastering them to become stronger, freer, and more complete than ever before.
