“Send Coach John a message”I found another fabulous lesson that needed to be repeated to me AGAIN, since I still need to be reminded about it. It came from Damon West (@damonwest7) who is an amazing difference maker, author, speaker, someone for sure you want to get connected to. He shared this: “Try changing two words today: “I have to” will now become “I get to.” I get to go to work. I get to move my body. I get to show up for my family. I get to work toward my goals. The things on your plate may not change, but the words you use can change the way you see them. Sometimes a small shift in perspective is all it takes to change the way you show up.” #BeACoffeeBean Little adjustments in my thinking, can change so much in my life - same for you. How I approach something with this mindset of “I get to”... can make a HUGE difference in not only how I accomplish things but also how the rest of my day goes. This helps me show up as a better version of myself, wherever I go, instead of me having these words in my head - “I have to”. Try connecting to this reflection. Powerful stuff for sure! “Send Coach John a message”I found a great post from Mindful Maven (@mindfulmaven_) where this was shared - “If an egg is broken by an outside force, life ends. If broken by an inside force, life begins. Great things always begin from the inside.” Yep.. those things that we can control, come from within. In life - there are many things that we can't control, but this quote is one to keep around us every single day!! Just like the game of basketball - doing things from the inside out is always the way to go. Thanks for listening. “Send Coach John a message”This is a classic post from Seneca the Younger (@SenecaQuote) where my connecting thought when I reposted it was this: Coach John Daly (@coachtosuccess) “Again, so much wisdom from so long ago that still helps us today…” I am amazed that from so long ago there have been clues left that humans still have trouble connecting with. The historic gem is from Marcus Aurelius - “ Do not disturb yourself by imagining your whole life at once.” Wow.. I know I need to see where I'm at and see what's next and not try to have my entire future figured out. I think this is something all of us can do, connect with things that people have shared from the past that we can use today to make our lives better. Thanks for listening. “Send Coach John a message”I found this post to be a great truth and reminder. It comes from Dolphins Enlighten (@embracetruejoy) - Where the intro thoughts were this: “Letting go of the need to have the last word brings inner peace and stops unnecessary arguments.” The quote itself comes from Rachel Wolchin who said this: “Maturing is realizing how many things don't require your comment.” I know for one thing, I need to get better at being more mature in this area for sure. In today's Internet age, it's one thing for me to keep getting better at not having to respond to each and every post. Some yes, but most of them know. And - I can't give up my peace for those things that others say, write, post, etc., and keep dwelling on it and let them change my mood for sure. Always something to work on for us to keep getting better with. Thanks for listening. “Send Coach John a message”Found a great reflection post for today from The Mindfulness Meditation Institute (@TrainingMindful) where this thought was shared: “Ability is what you're capable of doing. Motivation determines what you do. Attitude determines how well you do it.” - Raymond Chandler. These 3 things we all can look at a bit better and look at improving them. Our abilities, yes.. We are born with them, but we can improve upon those and others with focused intent. I for sure need to remember that Motivation is an inside job and of course that goes along with my Attitude too. I control those and I can and I must, bet better at them. Thanks for listening. “Send Coach John a message”I found a combo item here to share with you today. First comes from a difference-maker Clint Hurdle (@ClintHurdle13) where he shared this thought: “Until you find a way to make yourself happy, you'll never have any chance to make others happy.” It's a fine line to recognize the fact that we need to take care of ourselves throughout life and many times it's not easy to do. The other part of the “combo meal” was the recent podcast from John O'Leary - where he and his guest Elizabeth Svoboda discuss “The Art of Pacing” and taking time in our lives to be careful of burning out. Amazing things to think about deeply with the person in our own mirror and to start making plans for finding a few more moments to take care of ourselves a bit more. Thanks for listening. “Send Coach John a message”I found a post from Damon West (@damonwest7) that reminded me about how to get my day going. He shared this: “Start your day with one question: how am I going to show up today for myself and for others? Because your attitude, your effort, and your presence will shape every room you walk into.” Then spend the day doing your best to be your best for yourself and others. In all that I have to do, mowing the lawn for example, I need to show up and do my best since I can't do the entire lawn at once - I need to focus in and get the front yard done today and do it the best that I can despite the pain I'm in. I need to show up and do my best, even when I run an errand that has to get done. Every little thing that we do, it's better when we show up and do our best. Thanks for listening. “Send Coach John a message”I came across a fabulous reminder that is connected to a legend who just passed away. Gratitude HQ (@gratefuledu64) shared this quote from Dolly Parton “If you see someone without a smile today, give ‘em yours.” What a fantastic reminder for us to not only help others, but it's also a simple way for us to help ourselves too. It's also something that is so simple to do and yet, it has a wonderful result attached to it too. So many people are carrying worries among other things, that a simple smile can remind them of better things. The legacy of Dolly Parton is something that is being shared all over the world by so many different people since she passed away recently. What a legacy she has left for us to help live better lives. These hashtags were also part of the post: #WednesdayWisdom #ThankYouDolly. Thanks for listening. “Send Coach John a message”I found a fabulous post from Clint Hurdle (@ClintHurdle13), which by the way every post he puts out there is to help others. He's the author of one of my favorite books, “Hurdle-isms - Wit and Wisdom from a Lifetime in Baseball.” Check Coach out along with his book too! Two things I found from a recent post of his all dealing with some of his connections to Alcoholics Anonymous. First, he reminds us “by the way, it costs $0 to cheer for others.” What an amazing and powerful reminder for all of us. In a world where things seem to be crazier and crazier each and every day (especially in our country due to one person and his out of touch supporters), we all can do something to cheer on others and lift them up! There was also this quote as part of his post too: “If you think that you are too small to make a difference, try sleeping with a mosquito!” That one for sure hammers home the point about we are never too small to make a difference for others. My friends, keep finding things to remind you about the great things you can accomplish for others and that will lead you to doing the same for yourself too! Thanks for listening. “Send Coach John a message”Finding myself in the mobile studio again for this one, I found this from Mindset Machine (@mindsetmachine) where this idea was shared about Success - “Success happens twice. First in the mind, then in the grind. Picture it, work it, own it.” This helped to remind me that I need to put in a lot more work other than just thinking about the ideas I have. I need to really put more effort into working for them, which will help me own them too. Imagine connecting these two ideas about success. What can you do with our ideas that you have?? “Send Coach John a message”I was reminded (again), of how important it is to simply be open to wanting to get better. The podcast I was listening to that really got me thinking about this topic was from Jon Gordon's podcast, tilted “Rise To Lead” where he interviews his guest Doug Dentler, a CFO with a company who has written a book about this. The mindset it takes to simply want to get better is HUGE! I love the reminders that I heard about even people that have this bigtime title (CFO), need to still find people to help them become better. It's a journey I am on always - and my podcast is something that I hope helps you in your journey to continuing self improvement. Go out there and find things you connect with in order to keep finding ways to get better. Thanks for listening. “Send Coach John a message”Another fired up post that I found and it reminds me of so many things. It comes from Reads with Ravi (@readswithravi) and the simple message is: “Be someone who still tries.” The details of the post are here: “Be someone who still tries. After failure, frustrations, and heartache - be a person who musters up the courage to try and believe that good things are yet to come.” A big part of this is realizing every single human has failures, frustrations and heartache! It's up to us to choose what we will do with those things. Just like yesterday's message, this one too reminds us to keep going and to keep caring!! I had a great conversation with my good friend Joe D. (former boss) - and one of the things we spoke about was the old saying, “do not grow weary doing good.” Joe gave me a copy of “The 10 Commandments of Leadership” from Dr. Kent M. Keith, and one of them as this: #2 “If you do good, people will accuse you of selfish ulterior motives. Do good anyway.” Keep trying my friends! I know I need to keep it up too! Thanks for listening. “Send Coach John a message”I found another gem from Mark Hickie (@MPHickie) and he reminds us about this clip he shared from (@itsjusttrey) - “Remember where you came from. Never lose sight of how far you've come. All the hard days you have made through and how hard you've worked to make it this far. You got so much more to give. Keep going!” The great thing is that we all have this “huge barrel” of things we have been through. Our history is our best mentor! There is energy there for us to get through the next challenge that we have. Keep building up this energy. It will help ourselves and those around us too. Enjoy this clip!! Thanks for listening. “Send Coach John a message”I found something from a Master difference maker that we all need to connect with. Jim Rohn Official (@OfficialJimRohn) shared this HUGE post - "Four powerful little words: learn, try, stay and care." — Jim Rohn. He reminds us this: “Simple? Yes. Easy? That's up to you.” I usually don't leave hashtags from a post that I share with you - but these are important enough for you to at least do some searching on your own to make your own connections. (#JimRohn #JimRohnQuotes #Lifestyle #PersonalDevelopment #DesignYourLife #Success #MotivationalQuotes) These 4 little words… They are a great roadmap for life. I'm sure there are many more thoughts that I could have shared with you in this episode about these words - but I think it would mean more to you the listener to make some connections on your own too. In today's crazy world - little things like this can really help us to get through the tough moments. Thanks for listening. “Send Coach John a message”I found a very powerful reflective post from Kylie Riordan (@mindfulheal) and it was this reminder for all of us: “Always remember that you can have the worst days of your life and a few weeks later you can have the best day of your life. Don't give up. Keep going.” I've been inspired lately, mainly by my parents - especially my dad!! There are others too that I have connections to or simply see in person, that remind me to not give up and to keep going. A key for all of us to remember is that we are that same person for others. That's why we always need to keep looking to improve every day we have. Keep encouraging that person staring back at you in the mirror too!! Thanks for listening. “Send Coach John a message”I found a great “formula” for all of us to use in our lives. It comes from Reads with Ravi (@readswithravi) and it's The (Complete) Formula for Getting Lucky!! It is Preparation (personal growth) + Attitude (belief / mindset) + Opportunity (a good thing coming your way) + Action (doing something about it) = LUCK! So many of these things we can work on creating every single day and then we will see different results for sure compared to if we didn't have this formula. Keep investing in each of these pieces of this formula my friends. I need to keep this up for sure!! Thanks for listening. “Send Coach John a message”This short gem came from Jon Gordon (@JonGordon11) where he shared this #MindsetMonday message. “The mind is like a Garden. You need to weed the negative and feed the positive.” Wow.. simple, yet total 100% truth! There are plenty of things that we can let build up in our minds and hearts that are weeds. Things that will discourage us, doubt ourselves, be negative, etc. What we need to do is “fertilize” our minds and hearts with the stuff that is full of joy, encouragement, builds our peace, connects with our burn and our life-purpose along with helping us to connect to the people we love and care for. Even if you are like me and not much of a gardener, taking care of this kind of weeding and fertilizing helps us wherever we go. Thanks for listening. “Send Coach John a message”Super short, but very powerful reminder here from Psyche Wizard (@PsycheWizard) where they shared this: Marcus Aurelius said it right - “Discipline is the art of not betraying yourself.” Again, it shows how throughout the history of humans being around, there have been lessons out there for such a long period of time. Yet - we all need to keep learning these things and implementing them into our lives! Remember, have the talk with the person in the mirror about things like this. Thanks for listening. “Send Coach John a message”I found this powerful reminder from Nancy Lieberman (@NancyLieberman) all connected to why we do the right thing. “If you do good expecting a reward, that is when it stops being a virtue. Real growth is not a transaction. You do not do good to collect something. You do it because you are already something.” BOOM!! What a powerful reminder about how we go about our lives, every day! Doing the right thing is the way to go because it's the right thing. We should live our lives more and more with this. Again, think of how the world would be a much better place. “Send Coach John a message”I found a much needed reminder from Mindset Machine (@mindsetmachine) where this was shared: “People are addicted to easy and easy is the reason their life stays hard.” In today's world with so many distractions and things that we can choose from on how to spend our time - it is not difficult to choose easy things. I've done it for sure. But you know what? As I reflect and connect to this concept, I look back at all the times where I took my foot off the accelerator and just did things that were fun (watch t.v., spend time playing games, time on my phone and computer looking up nonsense, etc.), then I felt down about myself. I felt drained actually. I felt tired and worn out. Then I had no focus and energy to do things that really mattered and were important. There is the thought, if we always choose what's easy and fun all the time, later the price to be paid is a lot worse. Our life will not be fun and it will be more difficult than it really had to be. This does not mean to never have fun. It's a necessary part of life for sure. But not all the time. Thanks for listening. “Send Coach John a message”I found an amazing post to start my day with today and it came from Mark Hickie (@MPHickie) where he shared this thought: “A message for today … Be kind. Be understanding. Listen. Love openly. Give without expecting anything in return. And when you mess up, make it right. Always be the best person you can be.” There is more to his post that I shared in today's episode and here are my thoughts as I reposted Mark's post from today: “What a unique way to go out and face the day… a powerful way too… taking control back and choosing how to be in a very “loud, angry and distraction-filled world!” Thanks for the reminder @MPHickie” In seeing and feeling what is going on in our world today, this different viewpoint on how we can choose how to go about our day - just a bit different than what the “normal” seems to be. I for one know that I need to take this view with me a bit more every day!! Thanks for listening. “Send Coach John a message”Another gem of a reminder came across my wire this morning and it comes from Reads with Ravi (@readswithravi) and the reminder was this: “It's time to get more aggressive about the life you want.” The time is now. We are all running out of it and it's later than we think. Have that conversation with the person in the mirror as to what this is made up of. The little things that only you know about that have to do. Amazing things that you can start to work on towards your health, finances, relationships, etc. Keep taking little but aggressive steps toward the things you want to make your life be all about. Also, take the aggressive steps towards removing the things, people, thoughts, words we speak to ourselves, etc., that keep us from building the life we want to build. Lot's of work to do - but totally worth it. Start today! Your future self will be proud you did. Thanks for listening. “Send Coach John a message”I had a memory come back to me this Monday morning - it's about a formula that I heard from Coach Jim Valvano. He shared this: “You + Motivation = Success.” You can find a clip of his talk HERE as he shares this mindset. (An incredible speaker sharing things like this… Love Coach Jimmy V). We have the incredible gift of choice. We can make the choices every day to fill in this formula however we want to do. Make sure you listen to the video as he shares it much better than I ever could! Thanks for listening. “Send Coach John a message”Wow.. did I need to find this one and connect with it. It comes from Mind Decoded Psch (@mindDecodedpsch) and they are sharing this thought that: “You don't need more time.” The main post shares this: “Protect your focus. It's your greatest advantage.” This hit me hard as I re-posted it with this thought: “Looking back, I've done mostly a poor job at this … I know I will keep trying to get better.” It's true. We don't need to look to have more time if we keep having poor habits that our life is influenced by. There are so many examples every single day where I know a little more focus would help me more than I know. Our focus helps us to make choices and do things we need to do in order to live our best lives. Think about all the times where this is true. Look in your rear-view mirror and connect how true this statement is. I know I sure do have plenty of times in my past. The key is for me (and us) to learn from those moments, not to beat ourselves up about them. Keep. Getting. Better! Look to protect your focus, just once. Then do it again. And again. I sure do know that I need to work on this one moment at a time. I will keep trying for sure. Thanks for listening. “Send Coach John a message”I came across a post from Mark Hickie (@MPHickie) where he shares this reminder: “Be a light to someone else! There is no greater flex than the positive impact you can have on another life. Your greatest currency is the effect you have on others!” #BeALight. Listen to the passion that (@itjusttrey) has in sharing this message. I know there seems to be a ton of negativity, anger, hatred, division, lies, etc., out and around our world right now. All of us can make a difference if we look to keep getting better ourselves (our character, integrity, love for ourselves, etc.), and if we look to serve others more. Good stuff that I needed reminders about for sure. Hope this helps you too. Thanks for listening. “Send Coach John a message”I found a fantastic and simple reminder from Jim Rohn Official (@OfficialJimRohn) where this truth is shared with us. "You don't have to be great to get started, but you have to get started to be great." — Jim Rohn “Stop waiting. Start now!” Yes, it is simple, but for many it's not easy to do. Why? Life gets in the way. Excuses take front and center in our lives. For me, I need to grasp onto the truth that the reason why things I want to happen, have not happened - are all on my shoulders. I cannot blame others. It's the person in the mirror for sure. He and I need to have a conversation and then, what is one small step I can take towards getting things going! Then again and again and again. One small step at a time, repeated over and over again will make a difference!! Thanks for listening. “Send Coach John a message”This comes from one of my daily readings from the book “Areté: Activate Your Heroic Potential” - by Brian Johnson and today's thought is titled “The Worse A Person Is - The Less They Feel It.” It comes down to a couple of things. First is the fact that the worse we feel about ourselves, the more we are going to see the worst in others. Also, they won't see this in themselves either. They certainly won't react well or even listen to you, if you are the one trying to point this out to them. Finally, why would we or anyone want to try and see the approval of people like this - no matter how popular they are, how good looking they are, how “wealthy” they are, what they can do for us, etc. This is right from the passage: “So, if you're getting impatient and rude with people around you, you might want to check in and see how you're feeling about YOURSELF.” It goes on to mention how we may want to keep investing in doing the little things, to bring out our best in ourselves & to keep growing and improving. I think so much of the world is connected to learning from this - including me! Thanks for listening. “Send Coach John a message”Super advice here from Mindset Machine (@mindsetmachine) where this is what was shared: “Always give yourself something small to look forward to, like a nice meal or a weekend stroll. Your mind and body need gentle reminders that life is meant to be enjoyed, not just a series of chores and survival.” This is so spot on. I know I need to continually have little rewards set up for working hard and looking to be a good person with doing things the right way. Life is not always easy, but there should be plenty of little enjoyable moments to celebrate with. Thanks for listening. “Send Coach John a message”I found this post and all the parts to it, as a big-time reminder for me to keep looking to get better. It comes from Reads with Ravi (@readswithravi) and a powerful connection is this: “Your competition isn't other people. Your competition is: your bad habits, your distractions, your insecurities, your procrastination, your lack of discipline, your fear and your ego.” There is a lot of truth in this for me as I found out this morning. Let's just say I was reminded about the simple fact that I have a lot to work on. I'm just glad I'm acknowledging that fact and I'm willing to do something about it. Thanks for listening. “Send Coach John a message”The second piece (that I talked about yesterday) was this from a total legend. Zig Ziglar (@TheZigZiglar) has had tons of influence on millions and millions of people. He shared these valuable and timeless lessons: “Skills, knowledge, character, faith, and discipline continue producing value long after material rewards fade. Every lesson you learn and every strong habit you build expands what you are capable of contributing. Investing in yourself is not only about achieving more. It is about becoming more valuable to the people you are called to serve.” The post goes on to remind us about this pure gold thought by sharing this quote: “The greatest investment you will ever make is in the person you are becoming.” It is becoming more and more apparent to me that if I keep striving to be my best - in all areas of my life (knowing that some days I will fall short & to give myself some grace and keep going), those that I love and care for (and total strangers) will have an easier life because of the choices I made. John O'Leary is someone you always want to keep in connection with for sure. Click on his name above for his website - full of pure difference-making gold!! Thanks for listening. “Send Coach John a message”I just found a couple of reminders for myself and for you, my favorite listener - the first one comes from Reads with Ravi (@readswithravi) who shares this powerful lesson and reminder for any human being going through “stuff”... which means all of us. The reminder is this: “Who we become in the process is the real reward.” It's connected to this thought from Brad Stulberg, The Way of Excellence - “There is no greater illusion than thinking the accomplishment of some goal will change your life. What will change your life is who you become in the process of going for it.” What an outstanding observation and truth. I find it overwhelmingly emotional to grab onto this truth! The sooner we do connect to it the better off our life experiences will be. The second amazing find for me this morning, I'll share with you tomorrow. (sorry for the teaser). I'm just looking to make sure I do this episode the best that I can, which means one thing at a time my friends. Thanks for listening. “Send Coach John a message”I shared this post that I found from Mindset Machine (@mindsetmachine) because it's something that I do want to have these moments in my life. The quote is this: “Make sure your life is full of “I can't believe I did it” instead of “I wish I did it.”” Just imagine you getting to say this more and more.. That you did things that you were proud of along with your loved ones being proud too. Imagine a string of days, months and years piled up that this statement was true! “Send Coach John a message”I saw this reminder yesterday and I wanted to share it with you today. I've shared this before, both on my podcasts but also as a teacher. I shared Coach Jimmy Valvano's (Coach Jimmy V) lessons and speeches with my students for many years. This short clip reminds us that ordinary people accomplish extraordinary things. All throughout history this has been true. You don't have to be born a special person to do great things. It's not all about having millions of “followers” or being an “influencer”. Remember, we all influence others every single day - we especially influence ourselves! That's why as I've always shared one of what I think is many of life's lessons - always look to keep getting better. Be a life-long learner every single day of your life! “Send Coach John a message”I found something that reminded me about the person I want to keep trying to be. It comes from Reads with Ravi (@readswithravi) and this is what was shared: “Be someone who still tries. After failure, frustrations, and heartache - be a person who musters up the courage to try and believe that good things are yet to come.” I love this! I want to have the mindset to keep trying everyday in my life. There are plenty of times where I don't feel like it, but I know I need to have a stronger “don't quit” attitude. Again, this is another reminder for every single human to realize we all struggle throughout life and we all have a choice as to how to respond to those struggles. I need to just keep having more moments where I don't quit. It's an everyday battle to work on. Thanks for listening. “Send Coach John a message”I needed this reminder for sure today - because remember, motivation comes from inside of us for us. I found it from Art of Life (@Art0fLife_) and the thought was this: “You're the greatest project you'll ever work on. Restart. Reset. Refocus. As many times as you need.” This got me refocused right behind the heart… as I needed to restart things with my computer that died over the weekend. I'm trying to get things back running and I needed this reminder. I know I'll need it again when the next storm comes through as well. The same goes for all of us. Love this reminder…. “Send Coach John a message”I found a great post from John O'Leary for his Monday Morning Motivation. It's a long post, but it sure is worth connecting with. Find it HERE. It sure does hit home for us to find the lessons here dealing with regrets, those people we love, memories, life lessons, the past, forgiveness, conversations, and a ton of other life moments we all go through. The key is how do we stay connected to things that John is reminding us about. How can we start living in the moment with things like what he's talking about. Do me a favor, listen to John O'Leary sharing his thoughts as he's much better at it than I am. Thanks for listening. “Send Coach John a message”After coming out of the gym and on my way to another errand, I heard a commercial on the radio (yes… I still listen to the radio at times), Kirk Gibson was in this commercial and he was speaking to how he deals with having Parkinson's disease. He said every day he wakes up, it's another chance to win the day! What an incredible attitude that I know I need to take for sure!! There are so many people out there that we can learn from - so many that I know I need to learn from. “Send Coach John a message”I really do enjoy finding things that get me to think and reflect on things I know I need to do to get better. I found this post from Book Therapy (@Book_therapy223) and this reminder is shared with it: “Hearing a story is not the same as living it.” There are so many things that this directly connects to me and I need to be totally reminded about this main title of the post - “Do Not Assume You Know What You Never Lived.” Most people usually never even try to imagine how hard it is for someone that we are judging or we think we can connect one of our hard times to them. The quiet battles that they fight. What it takes to simply keep standing day after day. I am reminded it is so easy to judge a picture when we are standing outside the frame. It's impossible to understand a weight that we never carried. I know I need to walk a few steps in their shoes a bit more or at least try to. This post is pure gold in my book for understanding others and really understanding ourselves on our journey to keep getting better! Thanks for listening. “Send Coach John a message”There are times when I find a powerful (and simple) reminder for me that I know will probably help others too. This gem was shared by Reads with Ravi (@readswithravi) and his very short and simple thought was: “Clarity comes from action!!” The actual post was this: “Rumi said ‘As you start to walk on the way, the way appears.' Clarity doesn't come before action. It comes from action.” My intro to my re-post was this: “There have been times I have spent / invested too much time thinking & planning (which helps when there is action after)… amazing and wonderful how the learning & growing never stops!” There needs to be some planning and thoughts all the time. But without taking action, they won't move on from just sitting there. Action cures fear and it also helps us to see where the next step of our journey should go. I know I need to keep focusing on taking action for sure. Thanks for listening. “Send Coach John a message”Found a great (and short) post that I wanted to share with you today. It comes from Kylie Riordan (@mindfulheal) and she introduces this post with this: “Goodness I love these people.” The thought is this: “The people whose first instinct is to smile when you make eye contact with them are some of Earth's greatest treasure.” So, I caught a couple of things here. First is that I need to be this person more often. It also helped to remind me that when I smile more it benefits someone else and myself. Once again, something that the world needs more of for sure. “Send Coach John a message”I have found another legend - Nancy Lieberman (@NancyLieberman) shared this simple (and short) message - “Do the work even when nobody claps.” Remember this is coming from a Hall of Famer and someone (once again) is out there helping, encouraging, lifting others up from the journey she has been on. How awesome would it be if more people looked to do this to help others. Keep working towards great things, being our best along with making a difference with others along the way. Instead of tearing down others with actions and words (as there are way too many examples in today's world) all of us can do better. Part of that is doing things the right way - even if we don't get noticed. The applause shouldn't be the reason we are doing good things in the first place. Thanks for listening. “Send Coach John a message”I found something that I needed - it comes from Reads with Ravi (@readswithravi) and it's from James Clear on the antidote to anxiety: “Working on a problem reduces fear of it. It's hard to fear a problem when you are making progress on it - even if the progress is imperfect and slow. Action relieves anxiety.” This directly ties into something that I learned a long time ago from the awesome book “The Magic of Thinking Big” (but I still am trying to improve on), that Action Cures Fear! Imperfect action towards accomplishing something is still WAY BETTER than no action at all. Even if we are taking steps backwards, we are still learning. I'm finding a ton of “advice” lately that I certainly need to pay attention to. It's amazing the number of clues that are out there for all of us. When I think about it, there is no possible way that we will ever run out of these clues. Thanks for listening. “Send Coach John a message”Another legend comes to the front of the class to share some invaluable lessons about life. You know what?? These are simple lessons too, but I'm just talking about me here - they are not easy to keep remembering. I've always had trouble paying attention. It's one of many things that Jim Rohn helps me and all of us remember to work through. The clip comes from Jim Rohn Official (@OfficialJimRohn) - “Growth isn't always about grinding harder. Sometimes, it's just about watching more closely. Jim Rohn believed that success leaves clues, and the people who progress fastest are the ones learning from the wins of others. Look at what's working around you. Ask questions. Study outcomes. The better you observe, the more you learn what to repeat and what to release.” He's one that helps leave clues for all of us as we all navigate this journey of life. Thanks for listening. “Send Coach John a message”I came across a short clip from a legend that has always been a difference-maker for others. He's done it through the great game of basketball, but his lessons are all about success in life. The lessons from Coach K are shared by Coach AJ / Mental Fitness (@coachajkings). “Coach K shares what it actually takes to get better. "In order to get better, you change limits." "When you change limits, you're going to look bad and you're going to fail." Growth requires pushing past what's comfortable. And that means you're going to stumble. You're going to look like you don't know what you're doing. That's not a sign you're on the wrong path - it's proof you're on the right one. Coach K would always emphasize: Failure isn't a destination. It's a checkpoint. It takes grit to keep going. Courage to try again. And the willingness to endure when it would be easier to quit. The only way to expand your limits is to test them.” (The audio clip comes from Bloomberg) What an amazing reminder and any time we can pick up lessons from successful people, we need to pay attention. My next podcast episode will have some more information on the importance of paying attention. Thanks for listening. “Send Coach John a message”I saw a gentle and small reminder that I think we all take for granted a lot during life. It comes from Alan Stein, Jr. (@AlanSteinJr) who is the author of a couple of great books that I read and I think it would be great if you connected with both of them at some point - “Raise Your Game” and “Sustain Your Game”. His quote is this: “One decision can change the course of your entire life. The power to choose is our greatest gift.” I've heard that a few times that our greatest gift we have (and it could be one of a few), is that of choice. I think it's worth it for us to keep working on our choices in life. It's our thinking. Our actions. Our habits. Our words. There's many things that we get to choose throughout life. One thing for sure I know I can keep getting better with the choices I make AND I know I need to do that for sure. Thanks for listening. “Send Coach John a message”I found this from Kylie Riordan (@mindfulheal) because it made total sense to me as I have been thinking about this a lot more lately. What she shared was this: “I hope you have a random moment today where you look around and think “Oh. This is my life.” And instead of spiraling, you smile. Because maybe it's not perfect. But it's yours.” As I prepped for this podcast along with the errands and other things I had to do this morning, I got a message from one of my good friends Jodie. This topic has come up for both of us in recent weeks. She shared how she felt a bit “giddy” with one aspect of what she's been going through. I was reminded that we also need to do things / recognize things that make us feel that way a bit more often. I know I need to take more intentful moments to remind myself how proud and “giddy” I am about “Oh, this is my life.” Maybe you can find those moments too. Thanks for listening. “Send Coach John a message”It's always awesome finding so many things that speak directly to my heart. It's like Clint Hurdle (@ClintHurdle13) knew this advice he was sharing, was something that I needed to connect with. He shares this thought from his book: “Hurdle-isms for having a high standard. #17) “Lower the bar and you lose the winners; raise the bar and you lose the losers.” Now I know I need to raise the bar simply to tell (and show) myself that I can (and need to) get rid of the “loser” versions of my previous selves along with their excuses, habits, self-talk, etc. The other one was #18) “We don't have time to have “just another day.” I am seeing this more and more as I get older. I knew about this truth when I was younger, but I for sure didn't think about it too often and it did not really add any reasons for me to do things that I knew I needed to do. I need to do things. Now! How about you? Any thoughts for the person staring back at you in the mirror about these two “hurdle-sims”? Thanks for listening. “Send Coach John a message”I found a couple of gems this morning, both coming from Gary Vaynerchuk (@garyvee). The first is a short video clip where he is having a conversation with a young kid and her mom, reminding the kid that she is capable of learning to do things to help herself out with her Youtube channel editing. The simplicity of reminding her (and us) that we learned how to do things as a young child and that we are capable to keep learning new things, no matter how old we are. That leads into the second post I saw from Gary - “Seriously, so many of you in your 40's, 50's, and 60's have hunger to go for more but think you have to “wrap it up” because of your age - that's just not true.” Amazing reminders from a guy that just keeps putting kindness, compassion, authenticity, passion and tons of other life examples out there for us to connect with and learn from. The ideas and lessons are out there my friends - it's up to each of us to decide where and how we implement them into our lives! Thanks for listening. “Send Coach John a message”I'm not sure why lessons from rivers have been a thing lately, but Bob Starkey (@CoachBobStarkey) had a post that deals with both persistence and resilience thoughts all from what a river does all the time. “A river only breaks through rock because it shows up everyday.” Just keep showing up like a river and go around, over, through, under, etc., the “rocks” that we face every day. Just don't quit. Sounds easy, but we know it's not. Amazing lessons to pick up from nature once again that we can use for sure. Many things that we have to get through are not even as tough as a rock is. Remember, over time that river will wear down the rock, even break the rock into pieces. What we have to face may seem impossible, but we need to also remember we don't have thousands of years either. Thanks for listening. “Send Coach John a message”I came across my buddy John O'Leary's post on Facebook and it really made a strong connection with me. I think it's something that all of us need to be reminded about. This passage from what I shared with you says it all: “So today, if someone in your life is hurting, don't worry about finding the perfect words. Just be there for them with a phone call, a handwritten note, your presence or a simple hug. Because sometimes the greatest gift we can offer someone who is struggling isn't an answer, but the reminder they do not have to suffer alone.” We all have someone we can reach out to. In fact, I am doing that now to a couple of people even before I finish putting this podcast out there. Also, don't forget to reach out to someone to let them know that maybe you could use a few minutes of their time to talk if you need some help too. Life works out a lot better when we are in it together. Thanks for listening.
