“Send Coach John a message”I started my day like I always do, looking for inspiration and lessons to learn from. I found this one from Damon West (@damonwest7), the co-author of the wonderful & powerful book, “The Coffee Bean.” (it's one you should make sure to check out). Most people let the day decide how they show up. The difference is choosing it before anything else does. That's where consistency and real leadership start.” This was a reminder for me to try and make the right choice, at the start of my day - each and every day! The post shared was this: “Start your day with one question: how am I going to show up today? For myself and for others. Because your attitude, your effort, and your presence will shape every room you walk into.” A question I need to ask myself, and looking back is a bit easier since things have already happened - Is on my “good” days, why were they good? Also on my “bad” days, why were they bad? I am betting that the start to each of those days had something to do with it. I am thinking that if each of us made a bit more of a conscious effort to start our days out thinking about how do we want to show up today? This goes for the person looking back at ourselves in the mirror, to all the different people that we come into contact with every day - especially our loved ones. Awesome reminder by an awesome difference maker. Thanks Damon!! Thanks for listening. “Send Coach John a message”Found a great post connected to “The Masters” (@TheMasters) - this post from Brad Stulberg (@BStulberg) where he shares a wonderful picture of golf fans watching “One of the best parts of the Masters golf tournament: the no phone rule. It's awesome to see so many people locked in and sharing an experience with full presence. As I write in The Way of Excellence: “Excellence requires intimacy—minimizing distractions and getting as close as possible to your pursuit. It is a powerful antidote to modern feelings of disconnection, dissociation, and numbness.” I have no doubt a big part of the aura at the Masters is its intimacy. This would be impossible if everyone had their phones. There's much to learn from this, and not just for golf.” I shared two posts about this on my Twitter / X account and I'll do the same on my Facebook page too - and I'll try to put them on Instagram too. The other one was from Matt Van Swol (@mattvanswol) where he shared this thought: “Say what you want about The Masters... But there is nowhere else on planet earth where you will see a photo of humans like this where not a single one of them is looking at a phone. Truly one of the most beautiful things.” As I'm typing this, I am asking for you to go use your “device” to look at people having an amazing time, when they are not using their “devices.” HA… as I'm typing this line, I had to laugh out loud as to what I'm asking you to do. I know I need to stay off my “devices”, but there are good things out there that we can connect with to help us live our best lives. Part of this for me coming up is a breakfast connection with one of my longest known & best friends, Scott. We have known each other for roughly 55 years and we had breakfast celebrating my birthday back a couple of months ago, and now it's his turn. This is one of those things that I know I need to continue to make time for because it's really what life is all about. Great lessons and reminders from sports, especially (what I feel) is the greatest sporting event around. Thanks for listening. “Send Coach John a message”This podcast from John O'Leary (@JOLearyInspires)- (Episode 870) This is an incredible episode that made a big impact on me while I was mowing my front lawn yesterday. John has a conversation with Piera Gelardi and here is a bit from the show notes: “Today, Piera shares how growing up in a small town in Maine shaped her sense of wonder, how building a global brand led to unexpected self-doubt and burnout, and how reclaiming play became her path back to creativity, connection, and joy. She explains practical ways to integrate playfulness into our daily lives and how small moments can shift perspectives, deepen connection, and bring more curiosity, wonder, and joy into everyday life.” As I was listening to this, there were many thoughts running through my head as to why I needed to connect to this connection of joy, wonder, happiness, authenticity, and to continue trying to be the best version of myself. One of the biggest impacts this made with me was connected to something from my previous episode, #1846 - “The Magic You're Looking For” and the part where my former student Ashley posted a picture from our Principles of Leadership class. It got me remembering that really, I don't think there was ever a day in my teaching career, where I did NOT laugh at school! Mostly from my students, but my coworkers too! How much I missed this truth in my life today being retired. It's something that I seek every day, and usually find it - joy, gratitude & laughing. What an important part of life! It's a must! “Send Coach John a message”I found a couple of items this morning that clicked with me, so much so that I didn't want to wait until I came out of the gym. One was a post from Reads with Ravi (@readswithravi) where he shared this gem: “The magic you're looking for is in the work you're avoiding.” - Chris Williamson said this. I have been avoiding things that I know I need to do. Some out of fear, worry, anxiety; but others because I'm wasting my time on other items that distract me. The other item of this podcast came from a former student. Ashley posted a picture of our Principles of Leadership class from 15 years ago!! Those “kids” were such a big part of not only that year for me, but also my entire career. Her post reminded me of the gratitude that I have for the thousands of people that I got a chance to work with while at Lake Shore High School. It also reminded me of how I'm actually still “teaching” that course! It is the foundation of this podcast and the lessons I'm sharing and still learning are things that I pick up every day. Amazing lessons that I'm glad to have shared before the gym instead of after. Thanks for listening. “Send Coach John a message”I saw a gem this morning from Dolphins Enlighten (@embracetruejoy) where this was shared: “Focusing on what is going right, rather than what is wrong, improves your life! If you want to feel better then you need to think better!” This intro hit me as I know I've been on a journey to do this better and the post itself helps me to keep at it even more! Here's the post: “When you CHOOSE to FOCUS on what's going RIGHT instead of what's going wrong …when you CHOOSE to focus on what you can do instead of what you can't do … those are the times you will have the biggest breakthroughs in life!” This is something that I am finding out as I get older, to continue focusing on this, to keep getting better no matter how old I am. This is something for all of us to take to heart. Just keep going! Thanks for listening. “Send Coach John a message”I've been around a few different themes lately; of rooting for good people to have good things happen to them, not wasting focus or energy on things that don't matter and looking to make a difference with others. Part of it has been from sports - namely basketball and golf. The two winning coaches in the NCAA basketball tournaments - One is Cori Close, Head Coach at UCLA and on the men's side - Dusty May from the University of Michigan. Both talked about the importance of culture and character. Gary Woodland, a PGA tour golfer - coming out sharing his struggles from his brain tumor surgery and now dealing with PTSD. He is sharing it because he said he doesn't want to hide the fear any longer and that he knows that message can help others. He reminds people that it's important to talk to someone, don't take the battle on yourself. With what some other players are going through, namely Tiger Woods - it's good to see many people wanting the human being Tiger to be ok and get better and not so much the golfer. The Masters golf tournament is all about history, standards, tradition, adhering to doing things the right way and it's great to see in a world full of the opposite. It's a reminder for us to see how important those things are and that we can't forget important lessons from the past. Gary Vee says it all the time too. He genuinely cares about rooting for others. All the negativity and hatred out there from so many people, he feels sorry for those people. They are hurting inside and he has empathy for them. However, he's not going to let them affect him in doing the things he does. All of this is some powerful reminders for me to keep rooting for kind people and for the others that are not so kind, I guess I need to keep being the example for them to see that there is a different way of living. “Send Coach John a message”Listening to John O'Leary's podcast yesterday (find his website HERE), I was drawn to a piece of it where he was talking about Travis Sanders, an amputee who is a barber and so many other things. The biggest and best thing that he is, is that he is a difference-maker to so many people. I had the fortune to be on an online call yesterday, where Travis was the guest. It was a very uplifting conversation to see live, and hear from him on some of the things he's been through, his attitude for getting through the tough times and his calling to help others. Listen for yourself for the episode that connected some of this as John O'Leary shares on his Monday Moment segment - Listen HERE. The little piece that I shared with you reminds all of us that we have incredible opportunities to help others through what we are going through. Thanks for listening. “Send Coach John a message”I came across a fabulous post from Minions World (@minionswld) which shared this one sentence that hit me hard: “Forgive yourself for not knowing earlier what only time could teach.” It goes on to say that this is true “because the truth is, we can only understand certain things after we grow, after we go through life and after time quietly teaches us what we once didn't know.” This really hit me with how this sentence should also be connected to our relationships with other people - the people that we are really close with. Our pasts do inter-connect with those people that we are close to. Love these deep reflective points, as you can hear in my voice with this episode. Hope it makes an impact with you too! “Send Coach John a message”I found an awesome post from My Positive Outlooks (@mypositiveoutlooks) and (mypositiveoutlooks.com). The post shared this thought: “Today, I give thanks to everyone who's been part of my journey. Each person has taught me lessons and added color to my story. I'm grateful for the love, the laughter, the challenges, and even the struggles - because they've guided me as I continue moving through life.” We had a wedding this past weekend. We've known both the bride and groom for a long time. The groom since he was born and the bride since she was 5 years old. Their parents obviously for a long time too and so many other people. I was thinking about all of the people that we have known throughout our lives while sitting & listening to the great music that was playing from this amazing band they had. Then, I saw a former student and I went up to him to talk. He was there with his wife and he shared how they are expecting their 2nd child. I had a wonderful conversation with him and his wife and I told him how proud I was about him. I worked with his sister and brother too - all of them, “great kids.” As I sat back down to continue to enjoy the music, I got to thinking (and tearing up of course) how blessed I am to have had all of these students & players in my life, and how they affected me in so many positive ways. It helps to put more appreciation and gratitude into our lives when we recognize the amount of people that have been part of our lives - some offer love, awesome memories and are a fun part of our journeys. Others, they offered us maybe a ton of experience. This post really connected to me and helped me to see so much value that is a part of my life. Take a look at this statement and connect with the people that have been in your life & reflect on the amazing lessons you have learned from them. Thanks for listening. “Send Coach John a message”I found an awesome post from the Pat Summitt Foundation and it said this: “Whatever it is that you desire to do in life, have the courage and commitment to do it, and do it at your absolute best.” As I was seeing this, there were a couple of other things that I connected with this morning too, that helped to remind me why I'm trying to do what I do. No matter the setbacks, getting down on myself once in a while, feeling overwhelmed at times - it's all ok, when I recognize those feelings and then make the choice to not let them define me. I'm a life-long educator and coach who is always looking to encourage, inspire and make a difference for others. I am seeing things each and every day that help to reinforce meaning and passion into my life for doing what I know is helping others. Keep finding those things that inspire, motivate, light that spark inside of you - to keep doing what lights your soul on fire. Today I was connected to Devon Rodriguez - Links found HERE. Mel Robbins link HERE. Here is the link to the video of the two of them talking… great stuff… best use of 15 minutes for sure. “Send Coach John a message”Found a much needed reminder from Psyche Wizard (@PsycheWizard) where this quote was shared: “No matter how many mistakes you make or how slow you progress, you are still way ahead of everyone who isn't trying.” - Tony Robbins. It got me thinking again, about overcoming setbacks and problems. Challenges, both small and not so small, need to be dealt with, instead of ignoring them or not even trying to take them on. I have been that person that doesn't try at times in my life and I don't want to be that person too much any more. When I am, I want to recognize it - ask for help if I need it, but to also actually do something to change it around. I'm looking to recognize the moment that I'm in and what's the right decision for that moment for me to become better, to accomplish something, to follow through on a promise made to myself, etc. Little reminders like this help keep me going and I hope it helps you too. “Send Coach John a message”With all the things happening around college basketball, March Madness, the Final 4, etc., I found a great clip from Dawn Staley who is the head coach of South Carolina Women's basketball team. Check out the clip HERE. She shares with everyone how she views her life as owing the game of basketball. All of the things that the game has brought to her, she wants to pay it back. I like this. I like the connection to her team, their families, etc., and she's helping to pay off her debt to the game, by helping others gain from it too. Imagine feeling this way about things that have brought you things in your life that you are grateful for. Life-changing things. For me it has to do with tons of people that have made a difference for me along with the field of education and the game of basketball too. This is the first time I'm lumping all three of these things together and it's putting a big smile on my face. I will spend the rest of my life doing my best to pay all of these “back.” What “debt” do you need to pay back?? Thanks for listening. “Send Coach John a message”I just found a fabulous reminder about life and there are two parts to this episode. First, the post came from Gratitude HQ (@gratefuledu64) and the intro to the post is this: “Let's “give goodness”! Wishing you a wonderful day!” We all need well wishes every day for sure. The picture with this post shared this: “Life is an echo. What you send out, comes back. What you sow, you reap. What you give, you get. What you see in others, exists in you. Remember, life is an echo. It always gets back to you. So give goodness.” What a powerful and true statement and an even more important reminder for all of us. I have always "loosely" connected with this statement and realized there is truth to it. Now with having age on my side a bit more, I know it's true and I am focused more and more about what I put out to the world. The second part to this episode is an example of this statement. My difference-maker of a friend Denyse from Canada, reached out to me with an encouraging message this morning. She is one of so many people in my life that help me in so many ways. They remind me not only that this statement of life is true, but also give me so many reasons to keep working hard, doing my best as I look to “pay” the debt of them making a difference in my life. There is another post that I saw today that connects to this and I think I will share it for tomorrow's episode. Read (or listen to) the statement again about life is really an echo. Then do things on an every day basis, to connect your life to it. Thanks for listening. “Send Coach John a message”I came across this post later in the day and I can see how it's directly connected to how my day started. Once again, Mark Hickie (@MPHickie) comes through with some amazing & thought provoking info. Along with the clip from Brandon Chen, I was really able to see through some challenges today. Mark shared these thoughts: “You won't always feel your best-and that's okay. Your best will look different every day. Sometimes it's strength, sometimes it's simply showing up. Bring what you have, as you are. That's always enough. You are enough!” I didn't feel like my best today, but as the day kept going on, and I looked outside of myself to help out with a couple of things, I felt better. Simply showing up and giving my best, in the moment itself, well - that's a win for sure. Remember these thoughts when you are facing tough moments throughout your days. Thanks for listening. “Send Coach John a message”Found this gem from Words of Wise | Mindset Coach (@Wordofwise_) where the picture in the post said this: “Never blame anyone in your life. Good people give you happiness. Bad people give you experience. Worst people give you a lesson. Best people give you memories.” - (@bywisewords) This got me thinking a lot about this. When I shared the post I included my thoughts here: “There are a lot of people that called themselves “leaders” that are giving anyone who pays attention, a lot of experience and lessons. Keep learning from them to be the ones that share happiness & memories with others.” So much out there that is a roadmap, in great detail mind you, as to what NOT TO DO throughout life!! “Send Coach John a message”I found an amazingly powerful and emotional post from Mark Hickie (@MPHickie) where he shared these thoughts on pain: “Some pain doesn't break you — it expands you by widening your perspective. It shifts how you see people, softens your judgments & deepens your understanding in ways comfort never could….” The post that he shared about this went like this: “What a strange privilege it is to experience pain. Not because it feels good. It doesn't. But because it changes the way you see life. It softens you. It humbles you. It makes you notice things you once rushed past. After pain, you value peace more. You value ordinary days more. You value people more. You don't take laughter lightly. You don't ignore small blessings. Pain doesn't destroy you. Sometimes it deepens you.” Yep.. There was a reason why this episode was a bit longer than others. I forgot to mention, I shared my thoughts to Mark on this one and its connection to John O'Leary. This one hit home for me in so many ways. Physical pain, emotional pain, and so many more connections to this powerful and life-changing post. I hope it helps give you some new perspectives on ways to view the things going on in your life. We all need help on our journeys through life. “Send Coach John a message”I found another inspirational post that reminded me about some things that I know I need to put an episode about how important this really is. Greg Berge (@GregBerge) “Don't lose sight of the people who help you get to where you are.” - Greg McDermott - “No one climbs the mountain alone.” Wow.. I can't tell you how true this statement is. I have so many people starting with my parents, family, friends, students, coworkers, players, coaches, neighbors, etc. I'm trying to go a bit more out of my way to tell people how grateful I am that they are in my life. When you stop and think about it, nobody gets through life alone. We all have people that have helped us along the way. It's also true that you have done the same for others too! Always good to keep this fact close to your heart. Thanks for listening. “Send Coach John a message”I found this post this morning from Reads with Ravi (@readswithravi) where this amazing & eye-opening thought was shared: “I'm in love with this sentence: “Discipline feels boring until you witness what it creates.”” This got my attention real quick and I hope it does the same for you too! There are so many things that I need to have more discipline in my life and I know when I do have it, I do love what it creates! The big thing that got me all choked up during this recording was when I connected it to time! It's the element that we don't know how much we have, yet many of us (including me) act as if it is never-ending and / or, we don't need to worry about it! Well, as I shared in this episode with a couple of examples that came to my mind and heart - it is something that I know I need to apply more discipline to in my life for sure. I hope you take away some powerful things from this episode that you can apply more discipline to in your life to help make your journey even more outstanding!! Thanks for listening. “Send Coach John a message”I found an amazing post to start my day out this morning. It came from Coach the Coaches (@WinningCoaches) and it was a picture of John Chaney, an amazing difference-maker for young people and he was a basketball coach. He said - “I always say to my guys, ‘The most important day of your life is today. This very minute is the most important of your life. You must win this minute. You must win this day.” It reminds me that right now, this moment is all that I can have an impact on. When I win the moment now, when I win the day now - it helps with my tomorrows. It also helps the people around me too. Great reminders, great thoughts to think about and take in - all from an amazing basketball coach that helped so many people through the great sport of basketball. Thanks for listening. “Send Coach John a message”I came across this post from Logan Simmons (@CoachLSimmons) where this was shared: “Your “why” is what fuels you. It must be internally motivated. If it's based on external outcomes, it will fade when you fall short of those outcomes. Your “why” must be bigger than yourself. It should drive you everyday to get better and to overcome all obstacles and adversity.” This is reminding me that I need to continue to tap into my why, my purpose - even though I'm not a teacher / coach right now. It reminds me that we are all way more than the title of our profession / career. This ties into the reminder from the earlier podcast, that we can get through the tough times with help from connecting to our spark in our lives. We have to keep feeding this along with we need to keep tapping into it all throughout life. It helps remind us that the tough moments are indeed worth it. Find your “why” your purpose, your spark and keep investing in it all throughout life!! Thanks for listening. “Send Coach John a message”I found a great post this morning from Inspiration & More (@LifeWithJohn) who fit into my Motivation Monday Game Plan message just perfectly - “You can and will get through hard things. ~ You got this! We are stronger than we think we are. Let's make this our Monday motivation!” I love this reminder! I needed this reminder! Hope you do too. I need to keep feeding into my self-belief about how to keep going to get through tough things. Tough things happen to everyone. It's one of the main parts of being a human being. There is also this reminder that we can get through them with the right mindset, the connection to our purpose and having great people around us too. I hope this helps you everyday and not just Monday. Remember, motivation is an inside job. Attach it to the meaningful things in your life, and it will be a bit easier to get through the tough times. “Send Coach John a message”Found a powerful reminder for myself that I needed for sure. It comes from Power of Positivity (@LIVEpositivity) “Just because you're struggling doesn't mean you're failing.” Listen, we all struggle with things all throughout life. Nobody gets away from this fact. If I can remember to use those struggling times as opportunities for learning lessons, getting better and becoming stronger - good things can happen. “Send Coach John a message”As someone who loves coffee, the “Coffee Bean” book is near and dear to my heart. Found this post from Damon West (@damonwest7) “Integrity isn't proven in public, it's revealed in private when no one is around. Be the same person either way. That's how you change the environment.” He's right on target with this for sure. The picture post that he shared said this: “Anyone can do the right thing when people are looking. Being a Coffee Bean means you do it when no one's watching. That's integrity and that's what transforms the water.” Remember the story about the coffee bean transforming the pot of boiling water. The carrot doesn't do it, it gets too soft. The egg doesn't do it either, it gets too hard. Wonderful lessons for all of us. Do yourself a favor and an investment - get a copy of “The Coffee Bean” by Damon West and Jon Gordon. It's an easy read, and a powerful book for life! Thanks for listening. “Send Coach John a message”I found a wonderful reminder for me and others about a few skills that require ZERO talent. This is a reminder from a couple of earlier episodes on this topic. This is for life, not just in sports. I found it from Coach Maloney (@CoachMaloney14) where he shared this list starting out with “…… Well Stated ……” about the “10 Things That Require ZERO Talent - Being on time, Attitude, Work Ethic, Passion, Competing, Being Coachable, Body Language, Doing Extra, Energy, Being Prepared.” What a fabulous list of reminders that we all can do something about these, no matter how talented we are, how many degrees we have, what our job title is, etc. I know I needed a reminder about these for sure. Just imagine taking a bit more notice on how you focus a little bit more in these areas of your life. I think you will see better results in all that you do when you take these into account. “Send Coach John a message”Simple, yet so very true. I found this one from Stoic Mindset (@StoikMonk) where this was simply said - “If you can't be kind, be quiet.” This is probably one of the shortest, most accurate, best advice for many (including me at times)! These were my thoughts when I reposted this - Coach John Daly (@coachtosuccess) “100% on target … so many so-called “leaders” around the world need to take this to heart!!” Just look at the news cycle every single day and you can see plenty of examples of people that really should just not say much, since they are always blaming others, calling others names, making fun of others, lying, etc. We also know people personally that this applies too as well. “Send Coach John a message”I was listening to John O'Leary's (@JohnOlearyInspires) podcast before heading to the gym today (find it HERE). Here is a little bit about what John was connecting to his episode today: “In sharing their stories, my hope was simple: to remind readers that they, too, could be part of someone else's miracle. Because what made these heroes remarkable wasn't supernatural power. It was their decision to use their lives to elevate someone else's. A superpower available to all of us. My hope was that readers would recognize the heroes in their own story—and then choose to become one in someone else's.” I am a big believer in small acts of kindness, small acts of encouragement, small acts of listening, small acts all around!! “Send Coach John a message”I found an outstanding post that I wanted to share with you today. It comes from my friend - Mark Hickie (@MPHickie) “Purpose is magnetic! It attracts the right energy & repels the rest. Move with intention, not ego. Inspire some, challenge others—that's how real impact happens. Stay focused, authentic & let your purpose lead. If some feel inspired & others are challenged, you're doing it right.” This is Mark's take on the video clip I played for you today. You can find the link for Devante Warner (@imdevantewarner) HERE. Some great advice for all of us to live more towards our purpose, be authentic, get rid of the ego and keep helping others to do the same for themselves! “Send Coach John a message”I've been holding out way too long by getting more guests onto my podcast episodes and it's 100% my fault. I've been down on myself a bit here and there and I realize now that this is a place where I don't want to stay. I want to have the confidence and the feeling of being worthy to bring awesome people and our talks to you! I've had a few here and there - and I need to reach back out to those previous guests and get them back on for some more conversations. This conversation with Tara is really special. During our talk, I had a huge smile on my face and a few tears as well (maybe a good thing that I didn't have my video working on my computer). She shares a little bit about her life from youth sports, to high school & college along with her career as a special ed teacher and her family. I love these talks with people that I admire because I learn important lessons from them and I hope you can learn some things too. People have stories and there are lessons from those stories that we can learn from. Tara is someone that I am really grateful for being a part of my life and I hope you get a few lessons from our conversation. “Send Coach John a message”I found an amazing clip that Greg Berge (@GregBerge) posted where NFL head coach Sean McVay shares some amazing thoughts about people having accountability and how it hits differently when it's rooted in love for the people you have around you. This is not just for a sports team - it's for life!! Recently I've been reminded about this fact and I know that I need to continue to work hard to keep being my best, to do my best in all that I do and to keep improving each and every day I have! “Send Coach John a message”I found a memory that popped up in my social media feed from a year ago. I posted this quote: “We rise by lifting each other, not tearing people down.” I needed this reminder and I know others do too… in fact the entire world does. I've had a few comments on the post and it got me thinking about a few things. One is for sure that when you look at the history of our country (the USA), good things happen when we follow this thought! We are inspired to build, invent, create, work together, etc. Theresa, who is a former student of mine, had some thoughts as to how difficult this can be when dealing with someone who does the opposite of this. It got me thinking about a few things. First I think if we keep being the example of lifting up others (with our words and actions), other people notice - maybe even the negative person. I learned that depending on how well you know the person or are connected to this person, you can actually lift them up when they are in trouble. Life offers countless opportunities for this as we all stumble, fall, have setbacks, struggle, etc. This former student of mine, who is one like so many of them, a “teacher” of mine - as she got me remembering when there were a few times of me taking the low road and attacking the other person. Thinking back to those couple of times, I remember feeling horrible about it because that was not who I wanted to be. It caused me plenty of troubles for sure. I've learned to always strive for taking the high road. Theresa helped me see this. It all reminds me of this quote - “be the example the world needs to see.” We need more of this for sure! “Send Coach John a message”From my reading a passage from “Areté: Activate Your Heroic Potential” by Brian Johnson, and it's all about Synergy. A dictionary tells us that synergy is “the interaction or cooperation of two or more organizations, substances, or other agents to produce a combined effect greater than the sum of their separate effects.” He shares some great examples in this post from pages 523 and 524, that got me thinking a bit along with getting inspired too! I remember one of my principles from where I worked, sharing this idea early in the school year about our staff being more synergistic and the great things that can come from it. He was right. Any team - even a team of two - that connects with this idea, awesome things can happen. The story of the Belgian horses from this passage says it all. Remember, build those relationships in your life so that synergy comes a bit easier in both the good times and especially the rough times too. Thanks for listening. “Send Coach John a message”This post from Damon West (@damonwest7) really is a very powerful and uplifting reminder for all of us. He shared this: “When I was locked up, I told the guys around me, “When I get out, I'm coming back to bring hope.” Now I walk back into those prisons and they remind me: You said you'd come back, and you did. Because in life, especially in the darkest places, your word is everything.” Our world - throughout history - has always needed hope. Now even more so!! This is such a powerful and much needed reminder that we all need to bring more hope to others (and ourselves) - keep your word when you make promises to yourself and others. Your word is also carried in your Character & Actions too. They all go together. We all have our own stories in life - keep bringing hope to others through your story!! “Send Coach John a message”I came across a great post from Bob Starkey (@CoachBobStarkey) where he shared this gem: “Patience does not mean standing still…it means working hard, pushing forward, taking action — knowing that in time success will arrive.” What a powerful reminder for myself and hopefully you, that being patient still involves some action. I was reminded that while I'm trying to be patient, I can just sit there thinking that just “waiting” will get me through the things or situations I'm waiting on or that those things will be fixed without any effort by me. One thing for sure, the people in my life that I have good relationships with, they can be there if I need to lean on them. Again, relationships can help in so many areas of life. One thing for sure, I do need to work on having more patience for sure. Thanks for listening. “Send Coach John a message”I was able to connect with two important relationship reminders here. The first came from Clint Hurdle (@ClintHurdle13) “Life's not a solo sport. It's a team game.” Nobody does anything in life without the help of others. It's one of the truths that every human being (I think), needs to understand. Those that do get this, usually have many more opportunities than those that don't. The second one came from Alan Stein, Jr. (@AlanSteinJr), where he shared this gem about the fact that loyalty is really created from relationships: “People are not loyal to jobs. They are not loyal to businesses. They are loyal to other people. Relationships create loyalty.” This is why relationships matter. This is what life is all about… relationships! I've been finding more and more postings, discussions, readings, etc., on the importance of relationships. My thoughts here on my repost: Coach John Daly (@coachtosuccess) “One reason why always working on improving our relationships is a key part of everyday life!” This is really one of the main things to keep working on throughout every day of our lives! “Send Coach John a message”I came across another post that helped me to “throw another log on the fire” of helping to encourage me to keep going. To believe in myself just a bit more after seeing this post. I hope there is that same encouragement for you as well. The post came from Seek Wiser (@SeekWiser_) and it was this: “The best part of being authentic is that there is no image to maintain. You will delight some and disturb others, and none of it will concern the truth of you being.” The world is so desperate for authenticity. It's so rare and that rarity is the key. It will connect you to others that notice it and are intrigued to learn more about you maybe, just to see if they can be themselves too. To me it relieves a lot of pressure. Keep finding those things that fire you up and keep looking to have those things, help you be a difference maker for others! Thanks for listening. “Send Coach John a message”Found this powerful and truthful post from Reads with Ravi (@readswithravi) “Always carry a book with you.” It reminds me to keep doing what I'm doing. In fact, I need to do more of this! I tend to keep looking for things that inspire and motivate me. I keep learning things wherever I can pick them up. This post brings up some fabulous reminders for me (and hopefully you too) to keep a book, a journal, a notebook, etc., with me at all times. Life does involve a lot of waiting. Here are the thoughts I had when I shared the post: “Love this reminder …. This line especially: “So long as you live, keep learning how to live.” WOW!! Drop the mic moment!!” Keep learning my friends and then keep APPLYING what you learn. Keep growing with it. Let it add up to some of the best compound interest ever!! Not only to benefit ourselves, but also let it help us share it with others so it benefits them too! This is truly a commodity of success! Thanks for listening. “Send Coach John a message”I found this post that was really eye-opening for many reasons. First was that I've never heard this and then when I sat back - I saw the power and the truth about it. Second - I was amazed at the confidence I felt after I thought about this, along with the fact that it's not just for one day a year we need to do this! The post came from Inspiration & More (@LifeWithJohn) where he shares with us these thoughts: “March 4th is the only day of the year that acts as a command. To "March forth" means to take action, move forward, and make progress. It's also the only date of the year that's a sentence. Now you know!” The quote he shared was “today is the only day in the year that tells you to do something: March 4th.” Wow! At 60 years old - I am amazed it took me this long to catch this one along with the inspirational truth that comes with it. Every day is connected to the same message that came to my mind: Keep going! Keep moving! Don't quit! Don't Give Up! Get Better Today! Keep Believing! Keep Loving! Keep Forgiving… and so many more along with Keep Living!! I'm emotional as I type out these thoughts and show notes. Just like the emotions will show up in the recording too. Thanks for listening. “Send Coach John a message”I found a fantastic reminder for all of us and it helps us to also be our best to help others too. This one came from Greg Berge (@GregBerge) who shared this quote: "My parents gave me two excellent examples of... You can do anything you want to do." - Pat Summitt. Greg shares his connection: “It's about work ethic. It's about commitment. It's about choosing a winning mindset every day. Don't put a ceiling on your own potential.” Not only did his thoughts catch my eye, but I loved the quick clip from the one and only, Coach Pat Summit. Find the clip HERE. My thoughts with my repost were these: “Powerful message for all of us… we do indeed need more examples to learn from, be inspired by and to help all of us to simply keep getting better & doing better! Thanks @GregBerge for sharing this one!!” In today's world messages like this are for us to grab onto, lean on, but also to take with us into our own lives. Coach is right - we do need to have courage to get uncomfortable along with putting work into our life! That's why when you find things to do in life that you are passionate about and have a fire for - there is hope for succeeding. Thanks for listening. “Send Coach John a message”This one came from someone that I've been connecting with for a long time and yet, this message is as fresh and powerful as seeing it for the first time. Jon Gordon (@JonGordon11) shared this gem: “The word ‘encourage' means to ‘put courage' into someone. Encourage someone today and give them some courage to take on the day.” Jon Gordon is right on target with this message. The world needs this now more than ever. You know something… every time I say that “the world needs it now more than ever”, I really mean it!! Also remember, it's the little things done all around us that add up to BIG things that help so many people around the world. I love this message and I think we can all do exactly what it says!! “Send Coach John a message”I found a great reminder for me and for you and it comes from: Jaime Boswell (@JaimeBoswell2) “Champions Know… Our excuses aren't special. Everyone is busy. Everyone is tired. Everyone has obstacles. The difference isn't the circumstances, it's the mindset. Winners find a way to get it done. Everyone else finds a reason why they can't. Decide which one you are.” What a powerful reminder for all of us and the person looking back at us in the mirror! I know I have plenty of excuses … way too often and I'm trying to work on them for sure! In today's world, I think this is one of the best things we can do, is to take this mindset on! “Send Coach John a message”Simple one today for sure. A reminder for all of us to just take the time, or find the time, but to MAKE the time to do something good for ourselves! This all came about from our dog yesterday. I was busy focusing on something here on my computer. He hopped out of his chair and went looking outside at our patio, which had plenty of sunshine on it. He came back to me and started staring at me. I asked him what he wanted. He kept staring at me and then little whimperings started being directed my way. So I knew it was something important. He took me over to the doorwall and I let him out. He stopped in the sunshine on the patio and looked back at me. You see, he loves sitting in the sun in one of our chairs on the patio. But, it's still February and we have the outdoor furniture put away. But I knew exactly what he wanted. So I got one of our camping chairs out of the garage and set it up for him. He hopped up into it and I went back inside - but he kept staring at me. So, I knew he wanted me to come sit with him. I went to get one of my hoodies on, came outside and we sat out there for maybe 20 minutes or so. WOW.. did that sunshine feel good on my face and he had a wonderful time sitting on my lap! He knew that I would like sitting out there with him too and he was totally right!! MAKE the time for yourself to get some fresh air, some sunshine and time with one of your best buddies. Or at least on your own just thinking, smiling and relaxing without your phone. Thanks for listening. “Send Coach John a message”I found a fabulous post from Vala Afshar (@ValaAfshar) that reminds me to keep trying to be my best! These things that he's talking about are simple game changers for anyone who is looking to keep improving. Check this message out: “Be humble and kind. You could be wrong. Be forgiving. You also make mistakes. Be honest. Character is a door opener. Be generous. Givers sleep better at night. Be grateful. Luck seeks the thankful. Be courageous. Fight for your happiness. Be yourself, always. You will be happier.” Who doesn't want to be genuinely more happy? Happiness is fleeting most of the time. Joy is more permanent. But following these guidelines sure does help. I had a wonderful conversation with a waitress yesterday. She had just turned 30 and she has 3 kids. Her attitude around the entire restaurant was amazing!! I watched as she really took the time to talk to and listen with an older man that I could tell was a regular and how his face lit up with a huge smile for the connection she was showing to him. I made sure to thank her for being a positive example for all of us to learn from. I also mentioned that I recently turned 60 and that I remember how much better life got after 30 - she said she's seeing it already! These things that Vala is sharing - are part of not putting up with negative things… and she mentioned that is what she's doing more of. That is a powerful thing to get control over!! “Send Coach John a message”This episode is brought to you by NBC Sports … LOL… not really, but this is where I found the inspiration for today's episode. (@NBCSports). My thoughts on this - “Coach John Daly (@coachtosuccess) were: Love this perspective from (@miketirico) - look at his eyes as he's sharing from his heart!” The quote from the post: "Our country loves sports and it brings us together unlike anything else." Mike Tirico wraps up a HISTORIC #WinterOlympics for Team USA. Love the emotion from Mike and reminding us that great things can happen when we get inspired to chase our dreams. He's right. Our dreams that we have are for us to start going after now, whatever age we are. Be inspired by the work, blood, sweat and tears that others give for their dreams. It's not about sports - it's about the belief in ourselves knowing that others find ways of obtaining their dreams. We can do the same. Don't let the politics swirling around put a damper on your dreams and goals. It's about the lessons that we can take from others - not just athletes, but business people, medical leaders, faith leaders, leaders from all professions and not just in our country, but from around the world. It's time for you to go after those dreams that you have in your heart and soul. The same is true for me! Thanks for listening. “Send Coach John a message”I found this post from Greg Berge (@GregBerge) where he shared this clip from American Freestyle skier, Eileen Gu. Greg's intro was this: “This is a Mindset MUST-watch. Bookmark and share. We can become exactly who we want to become. We can control our thoughts.” It was such a breath of fresh air starting out with a sincere question from the reporter, whose name was Charlotte, and you can tell there is a bit more of humor coming from other reporters as to the down to earth way of asking it. The answer that Eileen gave - total brilliance! These were my thoughts as I shared this post: “Love this!! I've been thinking a lot lately of how my 8 year old little self would be proud of me today! (Also remembering he's still a part of me) I'm also thinking about how my future self would be grateful for the things I'm doing & thinking today!” You can tell by how fast she talks, that she has a lot going on in her head and / or she's simply full of passion for what she does in life. I think that's really cool that she explained a little bit of what is going on inside her head and what we can learn about it. Outstanding clip here and I'm glad I found it as I think the value from this is simply tremendous. Thanks for listening. “Send Coach John a message”I saw so many stories recently that connected with this powerful reminder from Kevin DeShazo (@KevinDeShazo) “Negative people don't make teams better. Negative people don't make relationships better. Negative people don't make organizations better. Negative people don't make the world better. If you want to make things better, show up with hope, purpose, positivity. You control you.” This was connected to some of the stories coming from the recent Winter Olympics in Italy. Many of the athletes shared stories about their preparation for their events, but also how their journey got them there. So many examples of controlling our own minds and emotions. Getting back to one of life's greatest lessons (athlete or not) - control the things we can control. Our attitude, our effort, our responses to outside events and our minds. For many - this is a lifetime journey of learning and struggling with how to do this. Thanks for listening. “Send Coach John a message”Saw an amazing reminder today to always carry around with us, from: Alan Stein, Jr. (@AlanSteinJr) “Always give without remembering. Always receive without forgetting.” There has been many historical lessons from many different sources throughout life - this is one of the main ones for humans to connect with, and yet we seem to struggle with this. We don't keep score of who owes us, but yet, we should always remember those that help us for sure. Again, easy to see on paper but more challenging to put action behind it in our everyday lives! It was also echoed from The Mindfulness Meditation Institute (@TrainingMindful) just a few posts before Alan's. This one shared this thought: “The happiest people are the givers, not the takers.” Both of these remind me of what Professor Morrie Schwartz said to Mitch Albom - from the book “Tuesdays With Morrie”: “When I give to others, I feel alive. When I take from others, I feel like I'm dying.” The world needs more givers. This is something that I'm trying to do more of for sure. Morrie was right. The world also needs more examples to learn from on how to give more too. Thanks for listening. “Send Coach John a message”Super lesson here - I needed this reminder to keep striving to be kind to others. From Spencer Rayner (@spencerrayner) “Retweet from @ColinSpenc4257 Thought of The Day. #SuccessTRAIN #JoyTRAIN - You're never too important to be nice to people!” Simple message, yet for some people it's the most challenging thing ever! You can be successful, heck even rich and “important”, but don't ever think that entitles you to be a mean person to others. We need to be better. We need to do better! “Send Coach John a message”Love the thoughts and reflections being laid down like a perfect bunt - by one of the best in the game… not just the game of baseball, but the game of life! Thanks Clint Hurdle (@ClintHurdle13) for this gem: “1.3 million Earths fit inside the sun, there are 3 billion stars in our galaxy and there are 2 trillion galaxies. The nearest star aside from the sun is 4.5 light years away. And I make things about me, yes? Wow.” When you look at the sheer numbers with this post, it sure does get me thinking about things. Especially the odds of even being born… Less than 1 in over 400 Trillion!! When you see these thoughts (I would call them simple facts), it sure does get us to pause and really think about how life can't just be about ourselves! The more I let this sink in, the better I feel. I feel less pressure, less weight on my shoulders, less tension - all due to the fact that life is not just about me. When I start looking to help others, I start not only feeling better about my troubles, but I also am finding new ways to look at my issues and new ways of solving them!! Thanks for listening. “Send Coach John a message”I came across a quote that really connected with what I've been drawn to a lot lately. It's from Seek Wiser (@SeekWiser_) and it reminds us about this: “Great minds discuss ideas. Average minds discuss events. Small minds discuss people.” - Eleanor Roosevelt. Now, this has made me think about how great minds talk about ideas and things to make things better for others and themselves. To solve problems. To come up with inspiration to help others. Average minds talk about the weather. Events that may be popular and even important on some levels, but they don't pull out any lessons from those events to make things better. Small minds - they just love to point out faults of others. To “arm-chair” quarterback, always saying they could do better than so and so in charge, but in reality - they don't do much to help out or to solve problems. They gossip a lot. I've been all three types - all throughout my life, heck … even yesterday I was all three. I know I need to strive to be more of a great mind for sure. We have way too many “small minds” around us. Don't believe me? Just watch the news a bit to see them and look around online too.The other thing that came up in this discussion was from Mindful Maven (@mindfulmaven_) - where this was shared: “It's a full time job to believe in yourself. “Send Coach John a message”Found a double scoop of reflection this morning. First scoop comes from Mark Hickie (@MPHickie) where he shares “A message for today … Sometimes growth isn't about adding … it's about releasing what no longer serves you. Let go of things that hold you back. When you create space, you make room for clarity, peace & new opportunities. Lighten the load. Trust yourself. Move forward free.” Powerful thoughts to help us see the freedom of letting go of things that cause ourselves troubles. It's all part of moving towards our own happiness and well-being. The second scoop came from Clint Hurdle (@ClintHurdle13) and his book “Hurdle-isms”. It's Hurdle-ism 17: “Lower the Bar and You Lose the Winners; Raise the Bar and You Lose the Losers.” WOW… Big time double scoop of things that can help all of us. I was thinking about these two on my walk with our dog this morning. Always a walk of peace, thinking, watching, listening, etc. This got me going today realizing that I need to keep raising the bar in my life. The person that stares back at us in the mirror knows! Get connected with who is staring back at you! Thanks for listening. “Send Coach John a message”Out walking our dog sharing some gratitude reflections on a special day for me. I started the day off with breakfast with one of my longtime friends (we have known each other for 55 years) and then some wonderful moments sitting with my wife before going out later with some friends to have a little “golfing” fun, then dinner after. My wife and I have been celebrating for a week or so along with carrying it out through the next few days. We saw my parents, my sister and her husband yesterday for a brunch celebration. It's been a great time and Gratitude has been a big part of me getting here. Find yours too. It's a difference maker for sure. Thanks for listening.
