The Daily Coach Newsletter / Podcast always has wonderful and life-changing lessons. It's not just for sports either - they are of course for life! This was right from the notes on their podcast: “In this episode of The Daily Coach newsletter in audio form, we revisit and spotlight the incredible journey of Erin Matson — from four-time national champion at North Carolina to Head Coach of the UNC women's field hockey team at just 24 years old. Her story reminds us that leadership isn't about age or tenure, but about passion, knowledge, and the ability to elevate others.” I have heard about this coach and watched some news clips about her and the great part that jumped out to me was that leadership is for any age - but it needs to have these parts: passion, knowledge and elevating others. I think you mix in hard work, humility and the ability to connect with others with being authentic and great things can happen. The podcast you can listen to HERE. Thanks for listening. A very inspirational lesson that I connected with from John O'Leary (@johnoleary.inspires - On Instagram) or his website: https://johnolearyinspires.com/) he shared this post that came from his podcast episode yesterday - find it HERE, where he reminded us: “Today, I invite you to say yes to invitations and interruptions you may not have planned for. Because the real gift we bring for others isn't our resume, achievements, or awards. The real gift is our presence.” This got me thinking of so many things about me saying YES to more things that will benefit others along with myself. The other part I focused on with this episode was what John mentioned towards the end of the podcast. It's also about us saying NO to those things that distract us, that hold us back, our fears, those negative things around us, etc. To me, that is something that I need to do even more. Let me know how you connect with these things - especially after you listen to John O'Leary's podcast, episode 809. One last thing - PLEASE check out the movie about John's life and the lessons for all of us. Check out “Soul on Fire” when it comes out October 10. Here is the official trailer for the film. More lessons from Coach Al Fracassa along with the connection to this post: Gratitude HQ (@gratefuledu64) Who shares this thought: “Let's make miracles happen today!” Where it goes on to share - “Sometimes miracles are just good people with kind hearts.” Coach Al was one of those good people that we can learn lessons from. Make sure you check out Brad Galli (@BradGalli) and find out a little bit more about his story. But you can also check out his story on Ch. 7 here in Detroit. Same link I had in the previous episode. Powerful lessons from a coach of a bigtime rival of my high school. But this man, Coach Al Fracassa was an indirect difference maker for me through others that he connected with during his long journey at Brother Rice High School (@BroRiceWarriors). Big shout out to my friend Matt and his wife Jennifer and to Dr. Joe DiPonio too! Check out this link HERE for a bit more about Coach Al Fracassa. The message here is to simply find the lessons from people like Coach (those people with their lessons are all around us) and find what you can put in your tool belt to be a difference maker for others in your own way. The world is crying for people to have real leadership skills to help others! Here is the link to my post from 11 years ago too. Find it HERE on my website. Thanks for listening. (This recording was from a Facebook Live video.) Found a great reminder for all of us and it came from a quote that Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. shared so long ago. I found this to be so true for me and then, as I remembered it's not all about me - I knew that each of us have things going on in our lives, that we simply must keep moving forward and do what we can do. The quote said: “If you can't fly then run, if you can't run then walk, if you can't walk then crawl, but whatever you do you have to keep moving forward.” It reminded me that I have so many reasons to not give up along with simply just keep moving forward with the things I have to face, get to do, in my relationships, everything! How about you? Just keep moving forward with things going on in your life! Thanks for listening. I found a very simple post, but yet it reminded me how powerful this can be for all of us. We have to work at finding this a little bit more in today's crazy world, but it's worth it. Kylie Riordan (@mindfulheal) reminds us to “Listen to silence. It has so much to say. ~ Rumi. There are times where I do connect to silence, in fact recently I have done this. She's right. There is plenty to connect with from being in silence. The older I get, the more I know that there is plenty to learn in silence along with plenty of other times where I do want to fill my time with music, “noise”, etc. I do love this reminder that it doesn't have to be awkward all the time. Another gem tossed out from Coach Mark Hickie (@MPHickie) and his thoughts on the quote he shared was this: “A message for today … Don't settle for less. Look at your life today. Identify what needs to change & take action now. It's never too late to start, no matter how tough it may seem. Keep pushing forward. You've got this!” I needed this reminder (as I usually do when I share things like this on my episodes.) This has some really good points for all of us to take to heart, along with taking some action on too. Thanks for listening. I had a great start to my day this morning and it wasn't just the coffee! First my reading this morning from the book “Starting Your Day Right” by Joyce Meyer (short daily devotions for every day of the year). Today's reading reminded me about what we reap, we sow. What we put out there into the world, comes back to us - many times over! Along with the reminder not to grow weary doing good. This worked in perfectly with this “Intention Card Deck” my wife and I got from going to a very early premier of “Soul on Fire” - it's the amazing story of John O'Leary. One that you are going to want to watch. Check the official movie site HERE. The first card I saw in the deck was this one: “Can you find purpose in your day that is bigger than just your routine tasks? Is it possibly that one of your purposes is to share kindness with all those you interact with each day?” That got me thinking about all the little interactions throughout a day that I see, that have kindness written all over them - despite what the world shows us on those days. The other side of the card had this direct quote from John O'Leary - “Indifference kills. But purpose breathes life into others, into our work, into our relationships, and into our existence.” This got me thinking that there are still too many times that I do act indifferent and I need to lean onto my purpose more and more (being an educator, coach, husband, father, son, uncle, nephew, brother, neighbor, friend, an encourager, etc.) Each and every day we can connect with these thoughts - each of those days will be the best they can be. This once came from Saturday and a fantastic lesson shared by Kirk Herbstreit (@KirkHerbstreit) and Coach Lee Corso. They have been working together on College GameDay (@CollegeGameDay) for nearly 30 years. The love and admiration that Kirk (a former football player) has for Coach Corso - there are so many lessons for all of us to pick up on from him. Do me a favor, check him out a bit to find out what some of these lessons are that they have shown. It's hard not choking up watching these two go through a bit of their journeys together. I found this post that really made a connection with me as this is really for everyone. I shared it out there on Twitter / X and I mentioned that this “shoe fits for everyone” as we are all Champions!! It comes from Greg Berge (@gb1121) and the quote is: "If you really want to be a game changer out there, be a master observer." - Peyton Manning He goes on to connect that “Champions don't just play the game; they study it. Observation creates anticipation. Anticipation creates advantage.” No matter what we do in life and who we are doing it with - we want to become Champions. I found a great reminder from Inky Johnson (@inkyjohnson) where he reminds us that “Commitment is staying true to what you said you would do long after the mood that you said it in has left.” This is one of the many stories of my life that I must always try and work on. Keeping promises to myself so that I can try and be my best -it's a tough job, but worth it for me (and all of us) to keep trying. Thanks for listening. My friend John O'Leary (John O'Leary Live Inspired and @soulonfiremovie) came through with another powerful lesson for me (and you too). He is always able to share things that help others in many amazing ways. With time flying by for him and all of us, John shared a powerful way of looking at the changes and pivots we all face in life. For him he thought back to a friend's passing, his dad losing his battle and his kids growing up. It's a profound and emotional podcast he shared and you can find it HERE. John got me thinking about the pivots in my life and the reframing of my feelings and thoughts about these changes. He really did help me to connect with some amazing reflections that helped me a ton. Good stuff for all of us, all throughout life! Thanks for listening. Saw this post that helped me to wake up - along with my coffee - to remind me that I need to focus in on how I want my day to go!! It's from Kevin DeShazo (@KevinDeShazo) shares this gem: “Your future self will either bear the burden of your inconsistency today, or reap the rewards of your commitment today. You get to choose. Show up on purpose.” This hit me this morning (morning of this recording) and it really changed my perspective of the day for me. I was also listening to “The Daily Coach” podcast - latest episode HERE, where it was shared about the “rule of thirds” which is coming from an Olympic coach and it basically says that during your days of working towards something, you will have a roughly each a third of good days, average days and crappy days. All three of them are to remind you that you are going for something great and to not let whatever day you are having get in the way of success. Especially the crappy days - they are telling you the great thing you are going for, is not supposed to be easy - but it's worth it! I needed that reminder as well this morning. It's my choice as to how I will show up! (and I will show up!!) Thanks for listening. Found a very true statement from one of the best at putting out difference-making posts. Mindful Maven (@mindfulmaven_) shared this one that I found plenty of examples of the second part of the quote (sorry to say): “You'll never be criticized by someone who is doing more than you. You'll always be criticized by someone doing less. Remember that.” ~ Denzel Washington. Those that know how things are done correctly - with class, character, hard work, etc., will usually always encourage rather than criticize. Those that have no character and have a title, have a lot of money, have status, and all that, and they maybe gained it by lying, cheating, stealing, etc., they usually are the ones that criticize (and even make fun of, put others down, etc. I think all of us need to go back to looking to do things in our lives to tilt the playing field back to kindness, encouragement, compassion, etc. Go back to podcast episode #1648 - the Ripple Effect!! Well, I found one that really hit me hard as there is a lot of connection to this one for me. It comes from another one from my “All Star” lineup starters, Reads with Ravi (@readswithravi) reminds us of this important life point: “Your laziness is disrespectful for the people who believe in you.” Looking back throughout my life, dang, I've been so guilty of this so often. This goes deeper as I'll share some of those thoughts here in this episode. Thanks for listening. I saw this post and of course I've seen it before, but this time it's voice was a little louder when I came across it. This came from Gratitude HQ (@gratefuledu64) - “The ‘ripple effect' means that #KindnessMatters ! A single act of kindness, like offering help to someone, can inspire that person to be kind to others, creating a chain of positive interactions. WE CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE!” This thought that all of us can tap into goes along with this post - “I alone cannot change the world, but I can cast a stone across the waters to create many ripples.” ~ Mother Teresa. In a world where action is needed to help others and make a difference with all of the injustices going on around us, we all can “cast a stone” of kindness, empathy, love, speaking up, reaching out to others to share thoughts and ideas, along with making sure we keep investing in ourselves to be our best selves. Just like the previous podcast - if we keep “our lamps lit”, it helps our journey and also the journeys of those around us. Making a difference for ourselves and others, should be something we all strive for. Thanks for listening. Well, I got the emotions going with this one and it wasn't even something I saw coming, until I started sharing things from my heart. This one came from Wisdom Stoics (@WisdomStoics) where this gem was shared: “I will never forget those who came with a lamp when I was in the dark.” It hit me again as to how many people I need to thank for lighting up my pathway through my life. Being in education and coaching, there are countless people out there that had very bright lamps to help me and I hope my lamp helped them. Former students & players along with coworkers too. It also hit me that there are plenty that I didn't even know. Those that came before me and their lamp helped someone that directly helped me. We need to remember that our “lamps” have many different things that go into them. Kindness, encouragement, love, hard work, attitude, effort, etc., all are part of what light up our paths. Keep your lamp lit my friends! Thanks for listening. I found a few powerful words that were spoken in this post from Mindset Machine (@Mindset_Machine) where they shared this “Four words that will completely change your life… ‘I do it anyways.'” It's that mindset that gets us to think about whatever happens to us, whatever we have to go through, what others may say to us - that attitude of not quitting… that's a huge difference maker. In today's world with so many distractions, having this mindset to not only remember, but also to lean on - it's priceless. I, for one, need this for sure! Thanks for listening. This is coming from a post that I saw by Inky Johnson (@inkyjohnson) and it all centers around Character. The fact that he is sharing some thoughts about the importance of character. If there is ever a time where the world needs to re-focus on character - it's now! We all need to look in the mirror and help ourselves out with living with & improving our character. The so-called “leaders” of our world - certainly need to do the same, probably more so because they do call themselves “leaders”. They need to lead… help to make things better for all of us… it's time! Thanks for listening. A fabulous reminder popped up that I needed to “digest” and “chew” on for a bit, then I knew I needed to share it too. This came from Kylie Riordan (@mindfulheal) where she shares this “hugely important” reminder: “Your diet is not only what you eat. It's what you watch, what you listen to, what you read, the people you hang around… be mindful of the things you put into your body emotionally, spiritually, and physically.” ~ (@tinybuddha) For me it's a playbook for each and every day in our lives - I need to be more mindful of my diet!! This is a playbook for me to study, follow and implement into my “game” of life. When I look at it like this - it encompasses everything that is going on in my life throughout my day, and I get to keep working on making the best choices that I can for following what I want “my recipe” to be. Hope this helps you too with your “diet”. This is a diet we can all get behind. Thanks for listening. I used to love as a kid, getting to go to a Detroit Tigers double-header game at ol' Tiger Stadium. I have a “double header” today as this lesson is coming from Inspiration Wiz (@Inspirationwiz) again, and I found it to be a direct connection to the previous episode. It's all about “How to Detach.” There are five points to this one and I'm seeing that I can use it to help me with my distractions problems. Here are the five points: “1) Let people be who they want to be, then decide if you want them in your life. 2) Trust that rejection is always redirection to something bigger and better. 3) Some people are only meant to help you grow, not be in your life forever. 4) What if everything is falling apart to come together in a way you can't guess? and 5) Focus only on what you can control.” Each one of these could be a separate podcast episode for sure and some of these topics have been on my radar lately to do an episode on. Again, all that means is that these lessons are popping up in my life (on my radar) because I need to be reminded about them and learn from them in order for me to get better. I hope this helps you too. Thanks for listening. I found a very powerful reminder that got shared from Inspiration Wiz (@Inspirationwiz) where they help to get us to realize that “Your real competition isn't other people. It's - Your ego, your procrastination, your lack of discipline, your distractions, your bad habits, your self-doubt, the knowledge you neglect to learn, the unhealthy food you consume. Now go & declare war on your real competition.” Of course I am replacing “my” where it says “your” or “you”, because this was directed at me for sure, probably not “you”. As I read each one of these again - examples of “me” are flying through my mind on each of them. Probably the biggest one for me lately - DISTRACTIONS! Wow!! We all have them and I've been letting mine get a bit too much in the way lately. They have stolen my joy & peace in way too many moments. So, I hope you might have a few examples of things to work on for you - as I have plenty of examples to work on for myself. And work on them, I shall do for sure! Thanks for listening. I found a “combo” meal today for us to “digest” and take to heart a little bit. The first one is from Psyche Wizard (@PsycheWizard) who reminds us to “Surround yourself with people that push you to be better. No drama, jealousy, or mess. Just higher goals, good vibes and positive energy.” One key that hit me here is that I reminded myself that I also need to be this for myself and for others. It seems we have so many to choose from that are the complete opposite of encouragers. The world needs more of them for sure. The “second course” came from Inspiration & More (@LifeWithJohn) where this great advice was shared: “Be someone's cheerleader! At one time or another, we can all use extra encouragement!” We all can be that for ourselves and others. The world needs this too more than ever. Just take a few seconds to see how much encouragement is needed in and around where you are in life. Thanks for listening. I came across a post this morning from a good friend and former co-worker, Connie - that got me reflecting in some deep and attention getting ways for myself. First of all, at the time of this recording & sharing this story - I got a bit emotional thinking about people, especially how I miss my former co-workers at this time of year (school starting soon). This is a bit longer of a podcast episode, as I am sharing this story about “Dorothy” and quietly sitting and the difference that this can make with others in a world that I'm finding trouble digesting what's happening. Amazing and powerful (at least to me) that got not only my emotions moving, but also things that I need to start & stop doing in my life. It gets me thinking for sure on how I can simply be better at some things & I hope it gets you thinking (and doing) some things too. Thanks for listening. I came across another great post…. I love the fact that I'm seeking things to help me throughout the day and Seek Wiser (@SeekWiser_) always has things to get me doing some deep reflections. This is speaking directly to you as well. “You are the greatest project you'll ever work on. Restart. Reset. Refocus. As many times as you need.” As I was sharing some thoughts from this, I also connected with Reframe too. I do need to realize that I need to focus on getting better, every single day. My thoughts and actions need to be pointed towards that instead of worry, anger, frustration, doubt, the pain I'm in, etc. This is (to me) an enlightening and encouraging thought to connect with many times throughout a day. I hope it helps you too. Thanks for listening. Sharing some thoughts about having coffee today with a long ago student of mine, and the inspiration I came away with from our talks. I also connected with our talk and a post from Kevin DeShazo ( @kevindeshazo ) and his thoughts he shared - “Attitude is a decision. Effort is a decision. Own the way you show up.” This reminds me in a very eye-opening way, that I need to step up and “own” what I do in life along with the things I want to do, need to do and get to do! I found myself needing an uplift this morning both with gratitude and an attitude adjustment. I shared some thoughts in a Facebook live video that I'm sharing here on the podcast. Lot's going on, and much of it doesn't help me to feel much better so I figured that I needed to take a bit more control. Here are some thoughts in this episode & I always appreciate the feedback any way I can get it. You can check this out on my Youtube channel too. Thanks for listening. I found a post that had 4 statements of Japanese wisdom and it comes from Mindful Maven (@mindfulmaven_) where these powerful reminders are shared for ALL OF US to connect with (including me for sure!) 1. If it's not yours, don't take it. 2. If it's not right, don't do it. 3. If it's not true, don't say it. 4. If you don't know it, shut up! Now I recognize that so much of the world, especially in the USA, seems to be going against these reminders. Our “leaders” seem to go out of their way to divide all of us, compared to trying to bring us together. My point with all of this is for us to not only shed the light on things like this for ourselves, but in doing so, our light will shine onto others. We can't let these truths be erased because there was nobody keeping the light turned on. Lot's to think about for sure. Thanks for listening. Watching and Listening to some powerful videos in the Mental Toughness Forum (#MTF2025) with Ben Newman (@ContinuedFight) and one of the speakers, Drew Hanlen (@DrewHanlen) who shared these “5 What's” we need to ask ourselves. This point he shared got me thinking about sharing these with you - "You can't keep doing the same things expecting different results. A lot of times, it's us that's holding us back." I shared this post with me admitting that I am SOOOOO guilty of this and the last “what” is - “What am I going to do about it??” This is a powerful episode to digest and then have some good conversations with yourself and I'm trying to do too. Share this one (heck, share any of my episodes with others that you think might get something from them) and then reach out and let me know your thoughts about the things I shared in this episode and how they helped you. I found a fabulous and easy to see connection to life. All coming from Mindful Maven (@mindfulmaven_) where this was shared: “Time is like a river. You cannot touch the same water twice, because the flow that has passed will never pass again. Enjoy every moment of your life.” So easy to see a river rushing by and realizing how accurate this is. I've been trying to focus on more moments of life so I can at least say I touched the water as it went by. So many times in our days, throughout our lives where we need to connect with those moments. Listening to Ben Newman's “Mental Toughness Forum, 2025” (https://mentaltoughnessforum.com/) and one of the many speakers he has lined up to help others is Jen Gottlieb (Instagram & Twitter / X: jen_gottlieb), (Facebook: jenleahgottlieb), and she “is the bold voice behind some of today's most visible and profitable personal brands.” One of the many things from her video is something that she wants to never forget and she wants us to remember this too. It's so important to her that she had it tattooed on her right wrist, so only she could really see it, but it simply says - “Time never stops.” We only get today one time - what are we going to do with it? Each moment we have, goes away! How did we “spend” that moment? With a couple of other things that happened this morning (and last night too), I found myself drawn to this thought and it got me going today to see if I can “spend” my day doing more things that I know I need to do, want to do, get to do and of course, have to do. How are you going to spend your moments today? Thanks for listening. I recently found a post from a leader & educator that really connected with me. Danny Steele (@SteeleThoughts) shared this thought that is so easily seen in today's society - “It's easier to throw stones than it is to make tough decisions. And sometimes… being a leader involves coming to terms with the fact that any decision you make, will be the “wrong” one to a whole lot of people.” The 3 C's (Criticizing, Condemning, and Complaining) are all around us. So many of our so called “leaders” take great pride in tearing people down and blaming them, instead of that so-called “leader” looking in the mirror and acknowledging their own mistakes, lack of character, etc. That's why I've been trying to keep working on myself more now than ever before. If everyone can do more of that - self improvement & personal development, recognize that we are not perfect and that mistakes are part of life. However, we stand up and own them and not blame others for those mis-cues. Remember, those tough decisions where we look at ourselves more than pointing fingers at others - it's a key to a successful life for us and others for sure! Thanks for listening. I stumbled across another take on the importance of Gratitude and it came to me from The Mindfulness Meditation Institute (@TrainingMindful) - “Gratitude: Acknowledging the good that you already have in your life is the foundation for all abundance.” Not only is this something to spend some time connecting with, but I also shared that @JOLearyInspires shared a powerful thought. He mentioned that when we acknowledge the good,we MUST acknowledge the bad that is around too. There is so much good that comes from when things go bad for us and if things didn't go bad at first, the good from it would not have happened. We've all had bad things happen to us for one reason or another & I never really thought about this connection to the good things that come from those things. Amazing connection!! I came across something that simply reminded me that it's up to me! From Inspiration & More (@LifeWithJohn) “The only person you are destined to become is the person you decide to be.” No matter what I have thrown at me, the environment around me (which has been incredible, thanks to my parents, grandparents, etc.), my choices do indeed matter. It's up to me as to where I go with my life. No matter what others say or do, I'm in charge and sometimes I forget that. So I love this reminder. The one and only Inky Johnson (@inkyjohnson) comes up with another assist as he shares a wonderful & powerful post that made a tremendous connection with me as soon as I read it. It said: “Worrying is carrying tomorrow's load with today's strength - carrying two days at once. It is moving into tomorrow ahead of time. Worrying doesn't empty tomorrow of its sorrow, it empties today of its strength.” - Corrie ten Boom. Talk about being right on target and yes, again, something I need to continue to work on - stop worrying so much. It does indeed rob us of today! Thanks for listening. Found a great list of 8 items that I think would add tremendous value to anyone who takes them to heart. This came from Book Therapy (@Book_therapy223) and it's all about doing a “Life Audit”. While at the gym yesterday, lifting “little weights”, I found myself listening to Ben Newman's podcast, listen to it HERE. I found myself having to record this thought in my notes to share on a podcast. Simply stated: “Be the best you can be, one day at a time!” In the little moments we have every day, we can look to win them a bit more than normal. Following through on a promise we make to ourselves or someone else. Replace a bad habit with a good one. Pile up little victories, small wins… nobody else has to know about them. That way, we can accumulate more wins each and every day at being our best!! This is a formula that I need to follow a bit more!! Thanks for listening. Found an awesome & funny thought here that is right on target in our lives today. It came from The Mindfulness Meditation Institute (@TrainingMindful) and they reminded us that: “Life has no remote. Get up and change it yourself.” - Sushant Singh. What a true statement for each and everyone of us. If we don't like “our channel”, change it. If we don't like the “input”, change it. There are times to change our “volume” in life. If you're close to my age.. You will remember something like this (what I posted with this): “Great thought here…. Plus, I had to laugh since I remember as a kid, “being the remote” for my parents when they wanted to change the channel and not having to get up to do it themselves.” Be active in taking care of being your own “remote” for your life!! Saw this powerful post directed mainly at teachers, but it is total truth for everyone!! From Chris Quinn (@ChrisQuinn64) - “Great leaders never forget what it's like to be a teacher or a student.” This is one thing that I tried to get my students to understand every year I was a teacher. Life is all about always being a student, no matter if you are in school, working in a school or not. People that realize that life is a teacher along with other people, we have things we can learn and get better at, every single day of our lives. It's amazing how many people don't get this. I found a great post that reminded me the importance of being a consistent person, every day! This one comes from Reads with Ravi (@readswithravi) and it's titled “Consistency Wins: Because it's not what you do once in a while that matters. It's what you do every day.” I have been trying to work on this mindset for a long time and still haven't figured it all out. But, I'm open to keep trying for sure. Came across a good reminder for all of us as to how valuable this asset really is for all of us. Coach the Coaches (@WinningCoaches) shared a quote from Kevin Gates which simply said, “Anything lost, can be found again, except for time wasted.” Now, I know I have wasted plenty of time throughout my life that I can't get back. The only thing from those times are lessons that I still need to learn I guess. I'm learning a bit better about this, and I simply need to catch myself more when I'm not being a good stewart about my time. I'm going to keep trying. I hope you will too. Thanks for listening. This difference-making guy keeps putting great thoughts out there. The guy, is Inky Johnson (@inkyjohnson) and the question he is sharing is - “What can we learn from this?” The “this” is everything going on in our lives! This got me to post this about what he shared: Coach John Daly (@coachtosuccess) “Life always presents moments of learning…” I'm trying to remind myself lately and quite frankly, I need to do this every single day, what are the lessons in those moments where I feel down, negative on myself, etc. I'm working very hard to continue to not stay in those “down” moments - which can be many in today's world, and I want to pull myself out of those moments sooner in order to get better and keep learning. This is a powerful mindset to have in our tool belt each and every day!! Thanks for listening. I saw this post from Sahil Bloom (@SahilBloom) who reminded us to “Just show up.” It's something that I've heard before but this one hit me a bit different with his notes that he left for himself. Here they are: “The key in life: Show up. Show up when it's hard. Show up when it's messy. Show up when no-one's watching. Show up when you don't feel like it. Show up when the rewards are uncertain. Just show up. You can never bet against the person who just keeps showing up.” Here were my thoughts on the post that I put with it when I shared it: Love this!! This is 100% on target, speaking right to my soul.... "John, just keep showing UP!!" Along with that, just don't give up!! Something we all can connect with I hope! Thanks for listening. Once again, lessons pop up when I need them and it's also connected to the fact that I still need to learn (or relearn) these important lessons again. Remember - Lesson repeated, until lesson learned. This teachable moment comes from Reads with Ravi (@readswithravi) “Bigger dreams call for healthier habits and healthier habits require more self discipline.” The reason this spoke right to me was that I was just thinking about this last night. Telling myself (instead of listening to myself), that I needed to get back on track with my habits and that I know I need to tighten up the “self discipline belt” a little bit. Get back to intentionally focusing on the things that I know I need to do and then put the action behind actually doing it!! In fact I will be doing that right after this gets uploaded. I ran across John O'Leary's podcast (@JohnO'LearyInspries) and you can listen to it HERE. It got me thinking about all the times we run into people, we never know what they are going through. We are all going through things, some good, some not so good. If we can approach people with a bit more kindness, empathy, encouragement, etc., we might find some connections with them that we never say coming. One thing for sure, the world needs more of this for sure. Thanks for listening. I found a unique post from Mindful Maven (@mindfulmaven_) where this quote from “Discipline” was shared with all of us: “Keep showing up, no matter how you feel.” It's a powerful reminder from a great source that we all need to be connected with in our lives, which is having discipline. There are many forms to this for all of us, but one of the main ingredients is this quote for sure and I really zeroed in on the keep showing up part! Hey, there are a lot of different quotes that I have shared over the years - I think we can all trust this one from Discipline him (or her) self. Keep working on it for how you connect to it. I need to do the same. Thanks for listening. A wonderfully timed post came across my readings the other morning and it sure did make sense to me today. On my walk with our dog this morning, it was such a nice morning that helped me feel a bit better and able to get around without a lot of pain. The gratitude was flowing and I hope this gets you thinking about it too. This post was shared by Gordana Biernat (@MyPowertalk) and I love this intro to the post that she shared: “Gratitude is a miracle frequency.” Her quote that was shared was: “Don't wait until you lose something before you appreciate it.” I need to make this a part of my everyday activities or habits. One thing for sure, when that person or thing is gone, it vaults up to the top of our gratitude & appreciation list, but it's also on the top of our sadness, missing and maybe even our regrets list. That's something I don't want on a long list as I get older. Thanks for listening. I came across this connection from my book that I'm reading (and it's been a long, ongoing reading of it), “Arete - Activate Your Heroic Potential” by Brain Johnson. He brings up this idea about us looking to be “antifragile” and it's connected to not being fragile - breaking or giving up, the moment life gets challenging. Life does indeed get challenging for ALL OF US… every day… many times a day for sure. Love this part - "Nor are we just resilient - more skillfully dealing with life's challenges and bouncing back a little faster when we get knocked around. When we're ANTIFRAGILE, we use all those challenges as FUEL for our never-ending growth.” How about that!! Since we all have challenges, turning them into fuel for us to keep getting better, to keep learning, to keep overcoming, etc!! Thanks for listening. I saw a recent post, again from a former student of mine, that opened up my eyes to catch the lessons that they are sharing. Kiara shared how she needs to keep being a bit nicer to herself as she looks back a bit to see that she has accomplished quite a lot over the last couple of years. That her goals keep evolving, as she does too. This is a lesson that I needed to see, when I needed it and her post helped with it. The quote that came with her thoughts was this: “I'm not everything I want to be yet, but I'm a lot of things I wanted to be 2 years ago, and what a wonderful thing it is to realize that.” Yep… I needed to realize this too! Another great reminder for me and anyone else willing to keep learning through life. This one from Reads with Ravi (@readswithravi) where this was shared: “Your whole life is a reflection of what you're giving your attention to.” This is something that I need to keep working on every day!! Remember, where our focus goes, our energy flows!! Thanks for listening.
