How to Build a Personal Brand That Makes You the First Choice w/Rory Vaden | Episode 88

Success often boils down to one simple question: Are you willing to take the stairs while others look for the escalator? Building a thriving real estate career, growing your personal brand, and achieving true success demands effort most people aren't willing to put in. The average person chooses the easier path, hoping for shortcuts. But successful agents and investors understand that taking the stairs—doing the hard things others avoid—is what sets them apart. In today's crowded real estate market, being "just another agent" or investor won't cut it. Clients don't choose services; they choose you. A strong personal brand makes you their first choice, builds trust, and creates opportunities others never see. Without it, you're leaving deals, relationships, and income on the table. New York Times bestselling author of Take The Stairs, Hall of Fame speaker, and Co-Founder of Brand Builders Group, Rory Vaden joins me to talk about the importance of building a personal brand, why it's crucial to lock in on the one problem you can solve and the one audience you can speak to.  Successful people do things that most people aren't willing to do. -Rory Vaden   Things You'll Learn In This Episode  Stairs vs. escalators Success often requires taking the harder path, like choosing the stairs over the escalator, to build discipline and resilience. What “stairs” could lead to greater growth if you chose them over the easier route? Trust before transaction Building trust and serving your immediate clients is more valuable than chasing popularity. How can focusing on trust over followers improve success especially in real estate? The fastest path to warm leads Referrals and presentations are powerful tools for quickly building trust and generating leads in real estate. What strategies can maximize referrals and make presentations more impactful? Have you ever approached an escalator that goes up only to see an out of order sign that says, “Out of service, take the stairs”? What did you do when you saw that sign? Was it ever an option for you to just accept the fact that the fast and easy track to the next level was out of your reach and just decided to NOT take the stairs? You can probably see where I'm going with this. In today's day and age, technological advances might give us an out by providing an elevator. But are you going to spend the time to find it or would you just suck it up and take the stairs? In today's episode, I will use this analogy to help you shift your perspective to understand that those things that may seem to impede your progress aren't there to stop you, but to make you stronger. And once you've got this perspective available to you, you'll start to see opportunities for growth all around you. -- SHOW NOTES/LINKS: Join The Forge! We're kicking off Season 4 of The Huddle in a BIG way. This first episode was filmed in front of an in-person audience at the National Retail Federation's NRF 2023 conference – known as “Retail's Big Show.” I'm proud to chair the NRF's Board of Directors, and I was thrilled to introduce the audience to a big-time guest: Dr. James Cash. I've known Dr. Cash for many years, and I am so inspired by his story.   In this episode, Dr. Cash talks about what drove him to break through so many hurdles and do things no one else had ever done – from becoming the first Black basketball player in the Southwest Conference to the first tenured Black faculty member at Harvard Business School. His mom taught him a mantra that he's always lived by: “If the elevator is broken, take the stairs.” I hope you'll watch this episode and see the incredible power displayed in Dr. Cash's perseverance

Ask yourself this question…WHAT DO PEOPLE THINK OF WHEN THEY THINK OF YOU?Like it or not, that answer is your PERSONAL BRAND.The rules have changed, and it's no longer an option not to have a personal brand.More than ever, your BUSINESS BRAND and your PERSONAL BRAND are becoming the same. With the explosion of options on how to promote yourself and your business, you need to be SMARTER THAN EVER to get the attention you need to succeed. If you're success-driven, chances are you've already figured out that you need to grow your brand and use it for maximum effect.THE BIG QUESTION IS "HOW?"My guest and friend, RORY VADEN, will give you those answers this week.He is also a New York Times bestselling author of TAKE THE STAIRS and PROCRASTINATE ON PURPOSE, a Hall of Fame speaker, and co-founder of the BRAND BUILDERS GROUP, where he and his team teach and implement personal brand development. He's helped several people, including me, LEWIS HOWES, ERIC THOMAS, TOM AND LISA BILYEU, LUVVIE AJAYI JONES, and many others take huge leaps forward with building our personal brands. Some of you may not fully understand personal branding, and that's where we start, digging into why TRUST is closely linked to personal branding, no matter how big you are or how big you want to be.Rory also explains how to start personal branding with practical advice you can easily implement almost immediately built around this KEY TAKEAWAY…THE GOAL IS TO FIND YOUR UNIQUENESS AND EXPLOIT IT IN THE SERVICE OF OTHERS.Many of you want to find ways to monetize your personal brand, and Rory gives you some insights using his D.A.R.E.S. (Digital, Automated, Recurring, Evergreen, Scalable) strategy.Rory will also explain what a BRAND DNA HELIX is with 6 QUESTIONS every brand builder should ask themselves. One of the most important keys to a personal brand is figuring out how you can monetize it. Rory lays out those avenues by getting you to think about P.A.I.D.S. (Products, Ads and Affiliates, Information, Deals, and Services). We'll also spend a lot of time discussing how to find your UNIQUENESS. Nobody talks about this enough, yet it's so critical to your personal branding success. We'll wrap up by talking about the three forms of PROCRASTINATION, multiplying your time, and why our brains aren't wired for success. You owe it to yourself to start THINKING about and ACTIVATING your personal brand. And Rory Vaden is the guy to help you do that.
