Brian Delamont returns to the podcast as we explore the Biblical theme of creation, beginning in the garden of Eden and culminating in the city of God. Drawing from voices like Alistair McGrath and Albert Wolters, we consider what it means to live as faithful stewards of God's world and reflect His image in our spheres of influence. From Genesis to Revelation, we are invited to participate in God's ongoing work of transformation, restoration, and renewal. Listen to “Christ Be Magnified” by Cody Carnes Genesis 2:8-20 Creation Regained by Albert Wolters “God gives humanity the occupation of partnering with Him in order to bring this garden to the fullness that God envisions for it, to partner with God in transformation.” Revelation 22 Psalm 19 Romans 1:20 “God's revelation of Himself is so clearly seen that humanity is without excuse to know that there is a God and that He exists.” Romans 2:15 “To be created in God's image means that we have these echoes of God's design and God's intention innately connected and integrated into our humanness.” “God wants us and created us and designed us to live integrated lives. There's nothing that doesn't have His fingerprint on it.” “There is not a square inch in the whole domain of our human existence over which Christ, who is sovereign over all, does not cry, ‘Mine!' - Abraham Kuyper “The Kingdom has come – it's here – and yet there is more to come.” “When we bring care or compassion or provision to others, we're making small transformations that point to the King and point to the Kingdom, both now and the Kingdom to come.” Creation by Alistair McGrath “Stewarding creation is an expression of love for God because God loves what He has created.” “We don't worship nature or creation, but we esteem it.” The Parable of the Faithful Steward in Luke 12:42-48 Jeremiah 29:4-7 “When we try to make God look like us, we are miscreating, but when we understand that we are created in God's image, it enables us to integrate our faith, our spirituality, with the physical world, because that's the way He intended it from the very beginning, all the way through Scripture.” “Science is never going to threaten God. How we apply science can threaten our understanding.” “What evidences do I see in creation for Him? What evidences, like Psalm 19, do I see in the law of God?” Revelation 21:1-5 “What started in a garden does become a city.” “In God's city, there is life and light. The river that flowed in Eden now flows from the throne, and it's the water of the river of life that is there for all nations. It's part of our inheritance, it's part of our sonship and daughtership with God.” 2 Corinthians 5:17 May Reflection: Am I actively engaging in God's creation mandate for the part of the world that I'm able to influence? In our last day of our week long focus on the parable of the prodigal son, we're going to make space to set our eyes on the father in the story, and ask the Holy Spirit to make us more like him. Our ultimate calling is to grow up into the clearest reflection of who God is, as his children made in his image. And we see an incredible picture of who we are to be in the character of the father in the parable of the prodigal son. May we become more like our Father in heaven today as we look at his word, and spend time in his presence. Our Scripture for today comes from John 13:34-35. Today's worship is Christ Be Magnified by Cody Carnes & Kari Jobe. – We are so excited to announce our very first First15 Kid's Devotional book, My Time With God. Get your copy of First15's first ever devotional book for kids today! My Time with God is a 20 day devotional written for young readers, ages 6-12, to help encourage and equip them to establish a lifetime of learning and walking with God through daily scripture reading and reflection. Each day of this 20 day devotional includes scriptures, activities, and prayers to help growing believers learn how to connect more deeply with God and about how spending time with God helps us live the life he's called us to. This resource is foundational, answering questions such as, What is a devotional? What is prayer? Why spend time with God? What does it mean to enjoy God's presence? “When we choose to love God and let ourselves experience his love, he also teaches us how to love others. Living for love means living like Jesus did. He was always thinking of others.” Request your copy of First15's new kids devotional, My Time With God, today by clicking here, and help your kids explore spending time with God each and every day!
O Christ be magnifiedLet His praise ariseChrist be magnified in meO Christ be magnifiedFrom the altar of my lifeChrist be magnified in meWhen thinking about this week's podcast, I started to think about a song that's been on my mind — a lot. In the year or so past since our church introduced it, the song has just grown on me. You may already be aware of it and have noticed it by the title: Christ Be Magnified. This song has a lot of depth lyrically, which is one thing that drew me in. Admittedly, some of our modern worship tunes can aim for just “good enough.” Good enough lyrics, good enough melodies, good enough theological concepts. In my opinion, this song doesn't stop at good enough. Tune in for a special episode of the podcast, a continuation of the "More Than A Song" series and concept which originated on the AS BOLD AS LIONS blog. “You shall not take the name of the LORD your God in vain” (Exodus 20:7). The name of the Lord is not to be used carelessly or for our own benefit. We are to esteem his name above others and never use it to give veracity to our words. Today, the name of the LORD is not held in high honor by all. As followers of Christ, we desire to ensure the words we use to demonstrate and reflect the disposition of our hearts.Son of Heaven© 2020 Bethel Worship Publishing (Admin. by Bethel Music Publishing), Maverick City Publishing (Admin. by Heritage Worship Music Publishing), (Admin. by Heritage Worship Publishing), Maverick City Publishing Worldwide (Admin. by Heritage Worship Publishing), Bethel Music Publishing, and Remaining portion is unaffiliatedGod of Revival© 2019 Bethel Music Publishing and Remaining portion is unaffiliated | CCLI Song # 7133285 -- CCLI License # 420630Worthy Of Your Name© sixsteps Music, Worship Together Music, and worshiptogether.com songs | CCLI Song # 7052927 -- CCLI License # 420630Christ Be Magnified© Capitol CMG Paragon (Admin. by Capitol CMG Publishing), Writer's Roof Publishing (Admin. by Capitol CMG Publishing), and Remaining portion is unaffiliated | CCLI Song # 7139866 -- CCLI License # 420630
As we begin wrapping up our week focused on centering our lives around Jesus, today we'll look at how to make the most of our time. Where we spend our time is where we place our value. As you begin to examine your life today, may God give you eyes to see what's hindering you and what truly brings you life. How we spend our time is foundational to how we center our lives around Christ. Our Scripture for today comes from Ephesians 5:15-16, and today's worship is Christ Be Magnified by Cody Carnes. Want a more thriving relationship with God in 2022? There's a lot of talk every new year about resolving to do this and resolving to do that. But no lasting change ever comes from doing more or trying harder. Real change… and experiencing a truly abundant life… only come from one place: connecting with God. This is why Craig Denison wrote his book, Living Intentionally: Finding Meaning through a Modern Rule of Life. And it's why we want to send you a copy today! Craig wrote Living Intentionally to guide believers like you into a more thriving relationship with God. Because if your relationship with him is thriving, it invites you into a deeper, truer sense of abundant life no matter what life may bring. Christ be magnified in me is a song by Cody Carnes. We sang the song today in our local church. This is to remind us that God wants to be magnified in and through us this week. Oh! Christ be magnified Let His praise arise Christ be magnified in me Oh! Christ be magnified From the altar of my life Christ be magnified in me I won't bow to idols, I'll stand strong and worship You And if it puts me in the fire, I'll rejoice 'cause You're there too I won't be formed by feelings, I hold fast to what is true…Oh! Christ be magnified As we start this week- let us remember that whatever we are going through or we will go through- let our determination be - Christ be magnified in and through us. Someone may upset us, someone may act unfairly towards us. Someone may hurt us- let's be intentional to make God magnified in and through all the situations. And in a situation where we are the one upsetting, hurting someone or acting unfairly towards someone, the Spirt of God will be leading us into all truth and reminding us - Christ be magnified in us- Christ be magnified in me. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/abimbola-arawande/message

It's one thing to see the value of the local church, and it's another thing to faithfully attend and invest in a covenant community week after week after week. That takes commitment; it takes time and effort. And there are many life seasons and circumstances where we might ask ourselves, “Is church really worth it? Do we have to go every week in person?” Especially in our digital age where we can listen to sermons online, we may wonder what the benefit is in going to church in person. In today's episode, we explore 10 different scenarios where we may ask ourselves if church is really worth it. While we understand that there are certain situations where attending church in-person is not an option (and we offer encouragement to you if you're there!), we want to make the case that in-person church is the better option. Here are the scenarios we cover: Is church really worth it when online church is available? (12:03) Is church really worth it when we've experienced church hurt? (19:11) Is church really worth it when you're in a busy season? (21:42) Is church really worth it when you're raising young children? (24:12) Is church really worth it when you're struggling with depression? (26:47) Is church really worth it when you're wrestling with specific sin patterns? (30:02) Is church really worth it when your church is struggling? (33:02) Is church really worth it when you already have community? (36:46) Is church really worth it when you don't know anybody there? (40:54) Is church really worth it when it's been a long time? (46:26) Church is always worth it because of the value God placed on her. The church is the bride of Christ. The church is the body of believers, working together for the good of the whole and the glory of God. The church isn't perfect, but there's no gathering in the world that compares to the gathering of God's people. Resources mentioned in this episode: Encouragement Sticky Notes by The Daily Grace Co. I won't bow to idols, I'll stand strong and worship You And if it puts me in the fire, I'll rejoice 'cause You're there too. I won't be formed by feelings, I hold fast to what is true. If the cross brings transformation then I'll be crucified with You. 'Cause death is just the doorway into resurrection life And if I join You in Your suffering, then I'll join You when You rise. And when You return in glory with all the angels and the saints My heart will still be singing, my song will be the same. In a culture as sexually permissive as our own, the apostle Paul's warning to “flee from sexual immorality” can sound hopelessly out-of-date. Yet for the follower of Christ, we recognize that we belong to the Lord and that our bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit. Being joined to Christ, what we do with our bodies matters, and while the world may look down upon us, we seek to glorify God in our bodies. The Lord Is My SalvationCCLI #7063694 | Nathan Nockels, Kristyn Getty, Keith Getty, and Jonas Myrin© 2016He LivesCCLI #7133098 | Anthony Skinner, Chris McClarney, and Jonathan Smith© Capitol | Alive, Forgiveness, Freedom, Glory, Honor, Jesus, Praise, Resurrection, SalvationChrist Be MagnifiedCCLI #7139866 | Cody Carnes, Cory Asbury, and Ethan Hulse© Capitol | Exaltation, Praise, Singing, Worship
The first followers of Christ were devoted to the apostles' teaching. They desired to know what Jesus had taught and how it connected to God's larger story in Scripture. We are fortunate to have all of God's word recorded for us; 66 books, each profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that we may be equipped for every good work. 1. They were committed to the study of God's Word (Acts 2:42b) a. All Scripture is breathed out by God (2 Timothy 3:16a) b. All Scripture id profitable (2 Timothy 3:16b) c. Are you ready? God has given us good gifts, but in our sin, we have made those gifts ends in and of themselves. We obtain what we desire, only to desire what we do not have. All of our pursuits, be it pleasure, wisdom or work will fall decidedly short apart from one finding their joy and contentment in God's simple gifts. Our culture pursues a dream that will ultimately turn into a nightmare. We have opportunity to live differently and, through Christ, model what true contentment looks like. 1. Self-indulgence will not satisfy (vs. 1-11)2. Wisdom cannot solve every problem (vs. 12-17)3. Hard work is often wasted (vs. 18-23)4. When Demetrius, a silversmith, causes a riot, the author of Acts, Luke, is careful to record all that transpired. While the gospel will necessarily put us at odds with others regarding what we believe and hold to be true, we are to seek peace in the places that God puts us and never bring discredit to the name of Christ. People will have a variety of reasons for dismissing the gospel; may we as his people never be one of their reasons!1. A Threatened Culture (vs. 23-27)2. A Frenzied Culture (vs. 28-34)3. Those who had confessed Christ as Lord found themselves being transformed by the power of the gospel. Many of them who believed renounced the evil ways of their past and brought their books of magic arts and burned them together. Consequently, the word of the Lord “continued to increase and prevail mightily” (Acts 19:20). The evidence of true life change in others is one of our most powerful evangelistic tools. 1.
