Amber is joined this week by her younger sister, Marissa. Marissa tells the story of the tragic death of Mia Zapata. Mia was an up and coming star from our hometown of Seattle, Washington. In the late 80's and early 90's she was making her name in the Seattle rock scene with her band the Gits, sharing stages with Nirvana and having Pearl Jam as fans. But, Mia's life was tragically cut short on July 7, 1993 while walking home in the community she loved.Marissa pulled her sources from: Johnston, Lori. Pacific St Blues & AmericanaSeptember 11, 2022We have a really smokin' show this week including numerous homegrown specials and an in-depth exploration of the music of Chuck Berry. Over the past several months we have explored the roots of 'rock music' of the 60s and 70s. While there are the clear influences of Elvis Presley and Little Richard, less obvious, but arguably more profound, as the influences of three blues artists: Robert Johnson, Willie Dixon, and Chuck Berry. It has been suggested, and I agree, that the influence of an artist is determined, at least in part, by the frequency of others covering their music and recording their songs.Specifically, we've examined the musical influences of the King of the Delta Blues, Robert Johnson, Chess Records ' songwriter Willie Dixon, and this week we'll take an in-depth look at the music and influence of the legendary, St Louis born, Chuck Berry, the poet laureate of rock n' roll. Berry spent most of his career recording for the Chicago-based blues label, Chess Records. Along with stable mates Willie Dixon and Muddy Waters, one can make a pretty solid argument that the music we all knew and grew up with had its roots firmly planted at 2010 South Michigan Avenue and the home of Chess Records. Join me today for some great music and good stories. 1. BB King / Jack You're Dead2. Blue House & the Rent to own Horns / Hey Martha!3. Dana Fuchs / Hard Road 4. Welcome to the Elevator World News Podcast. Today’s podcast news podcast is sponsored by elevatorbooks.com: www.elevatorbooks.com COVID-19 CONCERNS FORCE DELAY OF CHICAGO CONDO TOWER Construction of a luxury residential tower in Chicago has been put on hold until at least the end of September after a lender for the project cut off funding, the Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat reported on July 10. Codevelopers Time Equities, JK Equities and Oak Capitals have shut down the site of the 74-story, 421-unit 1000M, which was designed by Helmut Jahn for a site on South Michigan Avenue, after construction lender Goldman Sachs ordered a 90-day period to review the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. The lender expressed concerns "about economic stability of the market," according to Time Equities chairman and CEO Francis Greenburger. While Goldman Sachs could resume funding the US$470-million project after the review, the developers were exploring other financing options. Playliste:Prolog – Muddy Waters: Feel Like Goin’ Home (1948)Gene Ammons: My Foolish Heart (1950)Muddy Waters: Rollin’ Stone (1950)J.B.
