Send us a Text Message.Episode 305 is one my favorites because it is with one of my favorite people. Tammy Whitehurst is an author and speaker. She brings joy to everything that she does. I can't wait for you to meet her too. https://tammywhitehurst.com/As a motivational Christian speaker, Tammy loves to encourage and watch women discover JOY found in the truth of God's Word. Whether speaking to a large crowd, small crowd, or anything in between, she wants people to realize they can have JOY in their journey no matter what they have been through or what they are going through at the present time.Tammy begins every talk with laughter that progresses to serious content. As she transitions from laughter to serious topics, the audience is impacted. They leave with purpose and a goal to do something different in their lives.Tammy's messages always end with Jesus and what He can do in our lives. She is not a comedian but she does use humor in all of her talks. She would love to meet you, laugh with you, and share about the hope and joy that comes when we know Jesus.Tammy encourages her audiences to live an intentional and authentic Christian life that will bring them peace and overwhelming joy. The keys to life are all found in God's Word and it never grows out of date or out of style. God's Word is always relevant.God's Word tells us in Proverbs 17:22 “A merry heart does good like medicine…” Laughter is a great starter because it loosens the audience up and they are glad they came. Many will tell her afterward they have not laughed in a long time. The power of laughter helps us get through the difficult days. Support the Show.
Why God? I don't understand why you're doing this? Have you ever cried out to God with a prayer like this? Last time we talked with Carol Kent about that horrifying day she got the unthinkable news that her son was being arrested for first degree murder. We talked about, "When God Says You Must Lay Down Your Isaac," and compared Carol's experience to Abraham's—when he was asked to lay Isaac on the altar. This time, we'll pick up the both Carol's story and Abraham's and talk about when we don't understand why.Listen on: Apple | Spotify | OtherGuest: Carol KentBible Passage: Abraham Laying Isaac on the Altar (Genesis 22)Get your Freebie: Pray the Promises + Leader's GuideMentioned ResourcesWhen I Lay My Isaac Down by Carol KentShaped by God's Promises by Shannon Popkinwww.SpeakUpConference.com www.SpeakUpforHope.orgResound Media Network: www.ResoundMedia.ccMusic: Cade PopkinCarol KentCarol Kent is a bestselling author and an international speaker for conferences, outreach events, and retreats. Three experts in the field of substance abuse, Rev. Dr. Dennis Goff— Director of Ministry Programs of The Lutheran Foundation in Fort Wayne, Indiana, along with Tom Allman— Vice President of Addiction Services with Park Center (An Affiliate of Parkview Health) in Fort Wayne, Indiana, and Rachel Blakeman— Community Research Institute Director for Purdue University in Fort Wayne, Indiana, join hosts Rev. Dr. Steve Schave, Director of LCMS Church Planting, and Rev. Dr. Mark Larson, Manager of Church Planting in the Mission Field: USA initiative, to explore resources and insights on the often lethal epidemic of substance abuse in our country, and how the church can bring hope and life. About Rev. Dr. Dennis Goff: Since 2016, Goff has been the Director of Ministry Programs for The Lutheran Foundation in Fort Wayne, IN. He comes to the position after nearly 30 years as a parish pastor in the Lutheran Church – Missouri Synod (LCMS) serving congregations in Louisiana, Florida and Minnesota. He also worked for Capital Funding Services of the Lutheran Church Extension Fund. A graduate of Concordia College, Ann Arbor MI and Concordia Seminary, St. Louis MO., Goff also holds a Doctor of Ministry degree from Concordia Seminary, St. Louis MO in homiletics with an emphasis on Biblical Storytelling. He has been a regular instructor with Concordia Seminary, St. Louis's Specific Ministry Pastor (SMP) program. Currently, Goff is also called as Assistant Pastor of Holy Cross Lutheran Church, Fort Wayne. The work of The Lutheran Foundation in Fort Wayne is focused on grant funding for the Lutheran community and being a community advocate for mental and behavioral health and wellness. Part of that work is being carried out by the creation of a website by The Lutheran Foundation called Look Up Indiana. This website is a “one stop shop” for all things related to mental and behavioral health throughout the state of Indiana. Additionally, The Lutheran Foundation is bringing the message of mental health education to the faith community through a series of conferences, workshops and training events. Goff initiated the first area wide church and mental health conference called Speak Up in the fall of 2017. The second Speak Up Conference is scheduled again in Fort Wayne on October 7, 2019. Goff believes that if national statistics indicate that one in four in the population (25%) of people are living with a mental health concern, that also means one in four in our churches. It's time for the church to “speak up” about mental wellness and reduce the stigma around mental illness.
