In this episode of The Lazy CEO Podcast, host Jim Schleckser delves into the prevalent issue executives, CEOs, and entrepreneurs face in generating sufficient revenue and establishing trust with clients. He is joined by Todd Duncan, a multiple-time New York Times bestselling author and renowned sales leader, who shares his expertise on these topics. Duncan emphasizes the paramount importance of trust in the sales process, highlighting that tension and suspicion can severely hinder successful business relationships. He advocates for a referral-based approach to business, which eliminates call reluctance and fosters excitement, allowing salespeople to focus on nurturing relationships rather than merely closing deals. Duncan underscores the need for effective communication, advising sales professionals to talk less about themselves and their companies and more about addressing the client's needs. His research indicates that concise sales pitches can significantly boost conversion rates. Furthermore, he introduces the concept of emotional economics, where building an emotional connection with clients can lead to substantial increases in sales and gross margins. The principle of reciprocity, where providing value to clients encourages them to reciprocate with business, is also discussed.

Website: azperfectcompanion.com Key Takeaways Aligning caregiver skill sets and personality with the individual needs and personality of the person who needs care is hugely important and impactful, yet often overlooked by service providers. To bring true hospitality to caregiving, incorporating a holistic view of the individual and the family system is paramount. Caregivers should consider the psychosocial dynamics within families and individuals. The key word in caregiving is trust. Trust is the most important thing between a caregiver and a care recipient. Having a professional caregiver allows family members to be that: family – and focus on have “meaningful moments.”

Today, we have the distinct privilege of speaking with none other than Ron Hubsher, the visionary behind the field of business-to-business negotiation. Ron is a luminary in his domain. He has authored books on business-to-business negotiation, documented the close of a staggering $600 million deal, and held a distinguished position as a guest lecturer at Harvard University. As the Founder and President of the esteemed Sales Optimization Group, Ron's wealth of experience promises an enlightening and transformative discussion on how to become a better closer, and a more adept negotiator. Brace yourself for an exceptional experience as we unlock the secrets to sales success and explore Ron's tremendous career! If the notion of sales captivates your spirit, prepare to be enthralled by his brilliant insights! Bio: Ron Hubsher is an internationally acclaimed and recognized sales and negotiation effectiveness expert. Ron is CEO of the Sales Optimization Group, an international sales and negotiation training and consulting organization. The company assists clients in technology, health services, medical devices, financial services, professional services, business services, and manufacturing accelerated sales by using its patented sales and negotiation methodologies and tools to increase close rates, reduce discounting, accelerate sales, bring opportunities in as forecasted and make sure clients achieve their goals and hit their numbers. Ron's Journey in Sales Growing up with an entrepreneurial father who constantly sought to improve his selling skills, Ron got drawn into the world of business-to-business negotiation. The influence of his father, combined with inspiration from Dale Carnegie's timeless book, How to Win Friends and Influence People, sparked his interest in the art and science of selling. From an early age, he read books on sales and ventured into various small businesses, honing his skills as an entrepreneur and sales enthusiast. Having a background in engineering, he approached sales like an engineer, breaking down the process and seeking to manufacture successful outcomes. Key elements for success in business-to-business sales Ron explains that keeping things simple and process-driven makes it possible to achieve remarkable results consistently. He outlines three key elements necessary for success in business-to-business sales, including strong listening and questioning skills, a well-crafted opportunity plan, and a robust negotiation plan. Harnessing Information to Prepare for Sales There are advantages and potential challenges presented by the abundance of data on prospects. Ron points out that while having access to information could be empowering, using it effectively depends on the salesperson's approach. Finding commonalities and demonstrating a genuine interest in prospects' lives can create meaningful connections, reduce perceived risks, and facilitate successful negotiations. Virtual Selling Virtual platforms, like Zoom and Teams, have advantages and disadvantages in sales interactions. While face-to-face encounters might be more difficult to recreate online, Ron emphasizes the value of intimate virtual meetings, where meaningful connections and focused conversations can still occur. He stresses the importance of using those tools to give the salesperson the advantage of adapting the sales process to make it more effective on virtual platforms. The Magic of Leveraging Personal Passions in Sales There is power in finding and leveraging personal passions in sales, as it can foster a deeper level of connection and trust. Ron explains that highlighting his passion for pole vaulting allowed him to connect with potential clients who resonated with his story. Navigating Challenges and Opportunities when Negotiating on Virtual Platforms Embracing technology and refining negotiation skills are essential for success in the rapidly evolving landscape of virtual sales. Ron acknowledges that negotiating virtually can present challenges, particularly around reading body language. He emphasizes the importance of active listening and probing questions to gain insights into the needs and concerns of the other party. Practical strategies for addressing these challenges include utilizing one-on-one meetings and adapting negotiation tactics to suit virtual interactions. The Complexity of Business Mechanics Business sales negotiations differ from other types of negotiations. In business sales negotiations, one must consider factors like competing sellers, similar products, and spot transactional negotiators that can make the process more intricate. By interviewing successful business salespeople, Ron developed a seven-step process to simplify and repeat the negotiation approach. The Keys to Being a Successful Negotiator and Closer Ron emphasizes the importance of having a strong sales effort coupled with a robust negotiation plan when looking at the essential qualities one needs to become a successful negotiator and closer in business-to-business sales negotiations. He points out that a powerful sales effort, which focuses on creating value and reducing business and personal risks for the customer, is crucial. By combining that with a well-thought-out plan, negotiators can capitalize on potential and find success. Differentiating Business-to-Business Sales Negotiations Business-to-business sales negotiations require a distinct approach compared to other types of negotiations. Ron mentions three main types of negotiation: conflict/resolution negotiation, spot transactional negotiation, and business-to-business negotiation. He explains that applying conflict/resolution or spot transactional methods to business-to-business negotiations might do more harm than good. Instead, understanding the unique dynamics of business sales negotiations and utilizing a tailored negotiation process can lead to better outcomes. Establishing Trust and Maintaining Relationships with Customers To maintain strong relationships with customers after closing a sale, Ron stresses the significance of following up and maintaining communication with customers to reinforce trust and demonstrate value. He explains that successful sales should lead to quantifiable success stories that are worth much more than the price paid by the customer. Delivering substantial results allows businesses to build lifelong relationships with customers and ensure continued success. Transitioning from Salesperson to Sales Manager The skill set required for sales management differs from the skill set of a salesperson. While a salesperson should excel in functional sales skills, a sales manager needs to focus on hiring, motivating, handling problems, and removing obstacles for the sales team. Ron advises against assuming that the best salesperson will naturally make the best sales manager and suggests implementing a system to support the success of sales managers. Recognition and Success at Harvard and in the Industry Ron attributes the recognition he experienced as a guest lecturer at Harvard and the great opportunities his company received in the industry, to the positive feedback and success stories shared by his satisfied clients. The Right Approach for Successful Business Sales Negotiations There are critical differences between various types of negotiations, so it is essential to use the right approach for business-to-business sales negotiations. For long-term success in business sales negotiations, it is crucial to demonstrate a strong sales effort, have a well-planned negotiation approach, and maintain customer relationships. Do you need to ingest psychedelics in the form of plant medicine in order to have a transcendental experience beyond your regular consciousness? I was really curious about learning from Martin Theis about the form of shamanic journeying that he practices and leads others through. He helps to induce a state within others that takes them into other dimensions to experience other forms of “reality.” These experiences sound very “trippy,” so what is the mechanism he uses? We also talk about the healing that is accessible through the dream and sleep time as well as the role animals play in our awakening consciousness. Martin also gives some very sage advice on some things to watch out for when you are looking for shamanic or otherwise spiritual guidance. How do you know if you are engaging with someone who truly has your best interest at heart? It can be tricky territory, and you'll get some clarity through this episode. In this episode, you will be able to: Unearth the rejuvenating properties of shamanic journeys for personal growth and healing. Delve into the magical connection between animals and spirituality, particularly through totem animals. Gain insight into circular economies and their impact on responsible wealth management. Uncover mindfulness habits that construct the foundation for a peaceful, utopian society. Understand the importance of intentionality and working together in building a prosperous future. Martin Theis is a spiritual coach and teacher who focuses on mental and emotional wellbeing through the art of Shamanic journeys. The mission of his practice Light Trails is to assist others on their journey from suffering to inner peace and joy. Martin lives in Germany, Norway, and Hawaii, and is in the process of building a decentralized network of nonprofit organizations that aim at building sanctuaries for people to find healing and regeneration. Oguz Ozyurt: Helping Scrum Teams by Establishing Trust and Shared Understanding with Product Owners Read the full Show Notes and search through the world's largest audio library on Scrum directly on the Scrum Master Toolbox Podcast website: http://bit.ly/SMTP_ShowNotes. In this segment, guest Oz emphasizes that we all work in a complex environment and are change agents. Oz shares a story about a team that faced problems with its product owner, who would add stories to the sprint backlog without refinement and interrupt the team even on the last day of the iteration. As a result, the team lost trust in the PO. To address this challenge, Oz recommends making sure the team has an agreement on how to bring new stories into an ongoing sprint and discussing the team agreement with the PO. Oz also suggests bringing up the topic in the retrospective when the PO introduces a surprise story. Oz acknowledges that these conversations can be difficult, especially when the PO is a good friend of the team's manager, but emphasizes the importance of building trust and ensuring shared understanding. Featured Book of the Week: Leading Change by John Kotter In this segment, Oz recommends "Leading Change" by John Kotter, which outlines eight steps for organizational transformation and is useful for anyone looking to apply these steps to a change process. Oz also suggests "Start with Why" by Simon Sinek for its insights on inspiring others and finding the purpose behind the work. Finally, Oz recommends "Team Topologies" which provides guidance on building and managing modern teams, a key responsibility for Scrum Masters. Show Notes Ulrich Riedel and Will Bachman discuss Ulrich's unique pricing model for independent consultants. Rather than being paid upfront or daily rates, Ulrich gets paid a percentage of the value he creates for the client at the end of the project. To make this type of pricing model possible, Ulrich needs to make sure certain conditions are met, such as creating value for the client, measuring the value, and convincing the client of the value. He also needs to make sure that the client will be willing or able to share in the risk associated with the project. Ulrich has learned how to do this through experience, and was willing to share his knowledge with Will and the viewers of Unleashed. What to Consider with an At-risk Pricing Model Ulrich Riedel explains that there are four main themes to consider when using an at-risk pricing model. First, the offer needs to have unique value to the client. Second, the individual must be willing to accept risk. Third, the client must be open to the at-risk pricing model. Fourth, the approach to project generation must be tailored to the at-risk pricing model. He suggests that the network may not be enough for project generation because many close relations may not be able to accept at-risk pricing. A solution to finding suitable clients, may be to develop cold lead generation through LinkedIn might be helpful. He also suggests partnering with people who have contacts to potential clients and projects, and what he found most helpful is to establish oneself as an expert to increase trust. Pricing the Project Ulrich specializes in large, complex projects that are worth more than $100 million that involve many functions, hierarchies, global reach, different countries and cultures, change management with hesitancies and conflicting priorities, and the list goes on. He analyzes the entirety of the project, helps implement it, and generates an added value of 8-15%. Ulrich discusses a project they are working on with a client to shape the future. His role is to provide insight and advice on the strategy and execution of the project. He recently worked with a small company with a few $100 million turnover to help them optimize three main projects. He is also responsible for talking to many people in different hierarchies to collect data and figure out where value is hidden and how to create an intervention and implementation plan which could generate much more value. Prospect Generation Ulrich studies the mentality of the client and the company and talks to people in all hierarchies to gather in depth information from all levels, including employees at the water cooler or the factory floor during the night shift. Once he has an implementation plan in place, he sits down with the client to discuss two main variables: volume and cost. Ulrich also talks about how he determines his fees, and the search time for finding projects, and how long projects typically take. These are the views of Edward Cronin and are not necessarily shared by the host or Maverick Paradox. In today's episode Judith Germain speaks to Edward Cronin about establishing trust in communities. Edward shares his experiences about how he was hired to combat the 'war on crime' and how he decided to take a Maverick approach and work with communities. He explains how using system thinking changed a task force of 40 leaders to success. He took money from drug dealers and used it to give jobs to the kids in the community. By working with the community, crime reduced significantly. Listen to how becoming anti-racist made the difference in the community. This is an interesting conversation around culture, trust and community. Ed is an innovative and progressive leader in policing who is the past recipient on the International Chiefs of Police Association Award in the Field of Civil rights in 2011. He has over 30 years experience in law enforcement leadership who was brought about evidenced based change in the communities he has served. ---- Maverick leadership is all about thinking outside the box and challenging the status quo. It's about having the courage to take risks and the confidence to lead in a way that is authentic and genuine. But amplifying your influence as a leader isn't just about having a strong vision or a big personality. It's also about having the right leadership capability and being able to execute on your ideas and plans. The consequences of not having the right level of influence as a leader can be significant. Without the ability to inspire and motivate others, you may struggle to achieve your goals and make a real impact. How Influential Are you?
