“I could never fail to marvel at guests like our current one in February Anastasia Rose. Like some or many of our guests she exhibits enormous talent and ability not only in more than one endeavor but seems to do so while possessed of integrity, an engaging temperament, and thus an ideal guest for our podcast as well as inspiration to others.Like me she is both a musician and neurodivergent but quite unlike me she has chosen to do everything in music from playing wind instruments, teaching and leading band, playing guitar as a singer-songwriter, playing in a punk band all in addition to being a pianist (and I am sure some other things I can't think of at the moment). Moreover, she is also a music therapist and has her own business helping people of the most diverse psychological needs and backgrounds. I feel something of her spirit, in its commitment to her practice and eclecticism in styles, bodes well for our future more generally and I certainly enjoyed hearing her discuss her journey.” Bio NURODIVERGENT, MUSICIAN, POET, ARTIST & MENTAL HEALTH ADVOCATE Originally hailing from Texas, Anastasia Rose has found a new home in the greater Denver metropolitan area. Her music combines multiple genres to encompass a nostalgic yet nouveau style with influence from Florence + The Machine, Elliott Smith, Death Cab For Cutie, Regina Spektor, and Ingrid Michaelson. Anastasia recently released her first solo single, Cosmic Love, a three song album which was written, performed, and produced by her. From a young age, Anastasia took to music performance, composition, and education in a virtuosically natural fashion. She was singing before she was talking and playing the piano before she knew how to make friends. Music was always there for her and thus it was bound to become her passion and career as an adult. She is the CEO and primary therapist for Creative Remedies, LLC -- a therapy and lesson business aiming to offer therapeutic music experiences and education to all who seek it across the intersections of race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, ability, neurology, socioeconomic class, religion, and more. Anastasia's music career is eclectic. She has performed with ensembles such as the Crossmen Drum and Bugle Corps and Boston Crusaders Drum and Bugle Corps which showcased and competed in front of upwards of 20,000 people at venues like the Lucas Oil Stadium (home of the Indianapolis Colts), Sports Authority Field (home of the Denver Broncos), and MetLife Stadium (home of the New York Giants and New York Jets). Anastasia has also performed for various venues and festivals around the Denver metro area such as Herman's Hideaway, Your Mom's House, the People's Fair, Swallow Hill Music, and the Broomfield Summer Concert Series. She has also been part of ensembles that have opened for artists and bands across genres such as Emma Back, Younger Than Neil, and Write Minded. Washington's NFL team agree to change their name

“What story are we telling about America?” – Washington’s NFL team agree to change their name. We discuss the Washington Redskins decision to change their controversial name and logo following years of opposition from Native American communities and recent pressure from major club sponsors. Mark Trahant - who is a member of Idaho’s Shoshone-Bannock Tribe and editor of Indian Country Today - tells us the name was offensive because “it came from the era when natives were sold by body parts”. He also recalls being told by his father as a six year old boy not to use the ‘R word’ and he believes all teams that use Native American words and symbols will eventually have to change their names. The “Washington Red Tails” is among the favourites to be the team’s next name and we’re joined by Martin McCauley, who owns the trademark to that name along with a host of others. The Washington fan tells us all about his unusual hobby of trademarking potential team names, how he won’t stand in Washington’s way if they want to use one of his names and he explains why he’s hired a lawyer this week. The former NBA player calling for the current season to be abandoned - Etan Thomas played for the Washington Wizards, Oklahoma City Thunder and Atlanta Hawks during his professional career. He's now calling on NBA commissioner Adam Silver to cancel the current season due to the risks associated with playing during the Covid-19 pandemic. Thomas says of Silver "Valuing the lives of human beings over economic motivations is a concept that is absent from Donald Trump. You are not him." He also tells us it’s “tragic” that Elena Delle Donne, who suffers from chronic Lyme Disease, was denied the opportunity to opt out of the upcoming WNBA season. 2082 miles on an exercise bike while shielding from coronavirus and battling stage 4 bowel cancer - Keith Farquharson recently completed the 2018 Tour de France course on an exercise bike to raise money for the Sir Bobby Robson Foundation. He chose the 2018 course as that was the year he was first off work with cancer and he watched the race live on TV. He says he juggled the virtual race, with working full-time, a young family and having cancer treatment. We check in on the second test between England and West Indies. Former West Indies T20 captain Carlos Brathwaite joins us to discuss the latest action in the test, the series so far and living in a bio-secure bubble in order to be at the ground. Following a big week off the pitch for Manchester City we’re joined by broadcaster Natalie Paweleck to discuss the club’s FA Cup semi-final against Arsenal, the clubs hopes of ending this season with three trophies and if their victory at CAS could see Pep Guardiola extend his stay as manager. And this week’s Sporting Witness tells the story of David Beckham signing for LA Galaxy in Major League Soccer back in 2007. Soccer is Coming to America – Bid For the 2026 World Cup

North America Won The Bid for the 2026 World Cup! What Did We Win?  The United States, Canada, and Mexico will co-host the 2026 World Cup. This will be a 48 team World Cup - a global phenomenon - with 80 games played in total. 60 games will be played in the US. 10 games will be played in Canada. And 10 games will be played in Canada. North America won this bid by a FIFA Congress vote of 134 to 65.  What North America won, however, is much bigger than the humble numbers above suggest. For the soccer community and the sports community in general, this is huge! Soccer is the most popular sport in the world! We just dropped the tailgate and invited fans from all over the world to come party with us!  The hype, commentary, and spending that will go into making this event remembered around the world will infuse tremendous energy into North American Soccer - and it couldn't have come at a better time! After not qualifying for the 2018 World Cup, this is exactly the shot of adrenaline that the Untied States needs to reenergize our love for the sport.  Alexi Lalas 1994 World Cup (Played in the US) / Soccer Analyst for Fox "This gives us a beacon." What This Win Means for Youth Soccer The last time the US hosted a world cup was in 1994. That one event played a role in the establishment of Major League Soccer (the MLS). The MLS started in December of 1993. Events like the World Cup have the potential for inspiring tectonic shifts in the soccer landscape.  As a nation, we can expect an explosion of soccer interest and participation. The press is going to be talking about the upcoming games. Sponsors are going to be vying for advertising space and tailoring their ads to have a soccer theme. Kid will be learning about new heroes and wanting to get on the field and show off their new skills.  American's Sports Interest Landscape in 2014 Source: The Harris Poll - See below for link In a recent interview between Colin Cowherd and Alexi Lalas (see below for link), Colin cites a more recent Harris poll that shows the interest landscape has changed. Football, he says is 30% today. Basketball and Soccer are now 11%. I was unable to find the source he referenced.  An event like the World Cup is bound to have a profound impact on youth sports. We can expect to see memberships going up, video games coming out, fields being improved, clothing item sales going up, and more.  What the Financial Impact? The US promised FIFA an $11 Billion profit. The event is expected to generate $14 Billion in revenue.  To put this in perspective, a last Superbowl 51 was reportedly breaking records at generating $ 392 Million in ads shown during the game. Merchandise reportedly generated $88 Million in merchandise revenue, $82 Million on food, and $710 Million on alcohol. All of these numbers combined are still only a fraction of the money that the US is predicting will be generated by the 2026 World Cup.  If consider the additional revenue generated in multiple cities for TV rights, local entertainment of visiting fans, and the hype and excitement that will be created by contact with so many party goers, the financial impact of this event is even higher! What Cities will Host Games? Mexico Guadalajara (Estadio Akron): Capacity: 46,232 (Expandable to 48,071) Mexico City (Estadio Azteca): Capacity: 87,523 Monterrey (Estadio BBVA Bancomer): Capacity: 53,500 Canada Edmonton (Commonwealth Stadium): Capacity: 56,302 Montreal (Olympic Stadium): Capacity: 61,004 (Expandable to 73,000) Toronto (BMO Field): Capacity: 30,000 (Expandable to 45,500) United States Atlanta (Mercedes-Benz Stadium): Capacity: 71,000 Baltimore (M&T Bank Stadium): Capacity: 71,006 Boston (Gillette Stadium): Capacity: 65,878 (Expandable to 70,000) Cincinnati (Paul Brown Stadium): Capacity: 65,515 (Expandable to 67,402)   Dallas (AT&T Stadium): Capacity: 80,000 Denver (Sports Authority Field at Mile High): Capacity: 76,125 (Expandable to 77,595)
