What does Ontario’s Better Regional Governance Act, 2026 actually change, and who ends up with more power at the local level? TVO Today columnist and #onpoli cohost John Michael McGrath breaks down what’s in the legislation and what it is meant to fix. We then turn to the government’s claim that strong mayor powers are speeding up housing construction, examining what the evidence shows so far and whether it has come with democratic tradeoffs. Joining the conversation are David Arbuckle of the Association of Municipal Managers, Clerks and Treasurers of Ontario, Lindsay Jones of the Association of Municipalities of Ontario, and Natasha Salonen, mayor of the Township of Wilmot.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Caius Lucius asks Cymbeline to ransom his servant, a British boy (who is, of course, the disguised Imogen). Cymbeline does not recognize her but orders her freed and offers to give her any privilege within his power to grant. She speaks with him in private, and Belarius and his sons marvel at seeing the adopted brother they thought was dead. Cymbeline returns and asks Iachimo to step forward. Imogen demands to know where he got the ring on his finger. Iachimo confesses how he used trickery to win the bet with Posthumus. Posthumus emerges from the crowd and attacks Iachimo. When Imogen tries to intervene, Posthumus hits her, thinking she's a boy. Pisanio scolds Posthumus. Imogen, revealing her true identity, turns on Pisanio for trying to poison her. The old doctor Cornelius intervenes, explaining how the Queen tricked Pisanio into thinking the poison was a healing potion and that he (Cornelius) secretly changed the ingredients to make it non-lethal. Posthumus embraces his wife. As everyone begins to piece it all together, Guiderius (Polydore) confesses that he killed Cloten. When Cymbeline orders that Guiderius be put to death for killing the prince, Belarius reveals himself as the banished courtier and tells the king that Guiderius and Arviragus are the sons that were stolen from him long ago. Cymbeline, overcome with happiness, forgives Belarius and welcomes him back to court. Meanwhile, Iachimo offers his life to Posthumus as payment for his sins, but Posthumus graciously forgives him. Together, everyone works to interpret the prophecy that Jupiter left in the book Posthumus found beside him that morning. The joyful king frees the Roman prisoners and vows to resume the tribute payments. Everyone goes to give thanks to the gods and to celebrate a lasting peace. Cymbeline threatens Pisanio with torture in an attempt to find out where Imogen has fled. The Romans invade Britain, and Belarius can't keep his sons from joining the fight. Posthumus returns to Britain with the Roman soldiers, believing Imogen is dead. Overcome with remorse, he takes off his Roman uniform and dresses as a British peasant for the battle. He disarms Iachimo, who begins to regret lying about Imogen. Belarius, Guderius and Arviragus save Cymbeline from capture, turning the tide of war against the Romans. Posthumus, despondent with remorse, changes back into his Roman uniform in order to be captured and put to death. He's thrown into prison and falls asleep in his cell, where he's visited by the spirits of his dead ancestors who gather around him pleading for Jupiter to take pity on him and restore his fortunes. Jupiter agrees to bring happiness to Posthumus, leaving a book near his sleeping body. Posthumus wakes and begins to read from the book, trying to interpret its riddle until the jailer takes him to be hanged. A messenger intervenes, summoning Posthumus. Cymbeline knights Belarius and his boys for their valor, not knowing their true identity. Word arrives that before dying, the Queen confessed she never loved Cymbline and that she planned to poison him so the crown would go to Cloten. The Roman prisoners, including Caius Lucius, Iachimo, Posthumus and Imogen (still disguised as Fidele), are all brought to stand before the King. Imogen faints when she sees her father. She apologizes and offers to pay for what she's taken, introducing herself as “Fidele”. Guiderius and Arviragus (who go by the names Polydore and Cadwal) feel an immediate kinship with the stranger and take to calling Imogen their brother. Meanwhile, Cloten, dressed in Posthumus's clothing, makes his way through the wilderness towards Milford Haven. Later, Belarius and his boys set out for another hunt. Imogen, feeling ill, stays behind and drinks the potion Pisanio gave her thinking it will make her feel better. Out on the hunt, Belarius and his sons see Cloten. Belarius and Arviragus run ahead to find out if he's alone. When Guiderius comes forward, Cloten challenges him to a duel. Guiderius cuts off Cloten's head and returns to his brother and father, who recognizes Cloten's face and laments that they're in big trouble. The boys disregard their father's concern and go triumphantly to wake Fidele, only to find the disguised Imogen seemingly dead from the potion. Grief-stricken, Belarius and his sons sing a prayer as they lay Imogen in the woods next to Cloten's headless body, covering them with flowers. Imogen awakens after they've departed and sees the headless corpse next to her, dressed in Posthumus's clothes. Assuming it's her husband, she realizes she drank a sleeping potion and thinks Pisanio slipped it to her in order to kill Posthumus. She collapses in grief and is later discovered by Caius Lucius and his men. Remembering her disguise, Imogen introduces herself as Fidele. Lucius is impressed and employs her as his page. The boys complain about never being allowed to go to the city. Belarius tells them the city is nothing but treachery, recalling his days as a nobleman in Cymbeline's court before he was banished for crimes he did not commit. It turns out the two boys are actually Cymbelines' sons who Belarius kidnapped as babies in order to avenge his exile. Meanwhile, Imogen and Pisanio arrive in Milford Haven. Seeing no sign of her husband, Imogen gets upset. Finally, Pisanio shows her the letter from Posthumus ordering Imogen's murder. Cursing her husband's lack of trust in her, she begs Pisanio to follow Posthumus's orders and kill her. Pisanio refuses, telling Imogen that they should fake her death instead to make Posthumus regret his actions. Imogen agrees, disguises herself as a boy and sets out to find Caius Lucius, who will soon be leaving for Rome from the port of Milford Haven. Pisanio sends her off with the potion the Queen gave him, believing it will soothe her if she becomes sick on the voyage. When Pisanio returns, Cloten confronts him, demanding to know the whereabouts of the Princess. The prince leaves the palace with Posthumus's clothing, vowing to wear them when he rapes the Imogen. As they play, Cymbeline and the Queen pass by and tell Cloten to keep persisting with Imogen. A messenger brings word that ambassadors from Rome have arrived. The royal couple goes to greet the Romans, telling Cloten to join them after he leaves Imogen's chambers. Cloten knocks on Imogen's door and tries to bribe one of her ladies-in-waiting before Imogen appears. Imogen turns Cloten away so harshly that he vows to get revenge on Posthumus. As he rails, Imogen realizes that the bracelet Posthumus gave her is missing. She orders Pisanio to have her servants search for it. Meanwhile, Iachimo returns to Italy and goes to Philario's house, where Philario and Posthumus are discussing the prospects of war between Rome and Britain over the tribute that Cymbeline owes Caesar. Iachimo claims to have won the bet, saying he slept with Imogen and describing her bedroom in detail. He shows off the bracelet he took from her wrist, then adds the detail of the mole on Imogen's breast. Enraged, Posthumus turns over the ring he wagered. Back in Britain, Cymbeline refuses to pay the tribute Caius Lucius demands for Rome. Lucius says that can only mean war between the nations. In an aside, Cornelius tells us he's substituted it with a sleeping potion that will temporarily simulate death. The Queen tries to convince Pisanio to help make Imogen fall in love with her son Cloten, but Pisanio says nothing. She drops the poison, but when Pisanio tries to give it back to her, she tells him it's medicine and he should keep it to use whenever he's sick. Later, Iachimo arrives at the palace to win his bet with Posthumus. He tells Imogen that her husband has taken a prostitute and she believes him, but when he suggests she can get back at Posthumus by sleeping with him, Imogen realizes the story is a trick to get her into bed. She calls for Pisanio but Iachimo backtracks, pretending he was only testing Imogen's fidelity to her husband. Imogen believes his story and agrees to keep a trunk with valuable jewels in her room that night while Posthumus stays at the castle. Meanwhile, Cloten complains that no one will fight him because he's the Queen's son. The Lord showers him with praise and encouragement but mocks him behind his back. That night, Imogen falls asleep while reading in her bed. Iachimo emerges from the trunk and steals Posthumus's bracelet from her wrist. Cymbeline also had two sons of his own, Guiderius and Arviragus, and a daughter named Imogen. His two sons were kidnapped when they were young and have never been found. Cymbeline's wife died and he married a new queen, who had a son named Cloten. He wants Imogen to marry Cloten but she defies him by marrying Posthumus instead. The couple secretly exchange a ring and bracelet before Cymbeline banishes Posthumus in fury. Cloten tries to pick a fight with Posthumus but Posthumus avoids the conflict, choosing to go to his father's old friend Philario in Rome, and leaving his servant, Pisanio, behind with Imogen. Cloten boasts of his bravery as his servant ridicules him under his breath. Once in Rome, Posthumus meets a nobleman named Iachimo and a Frenchman who recalls Posthumus describing Imogen as fairer than the fairest ladies in France. Iachimo scoffs at this and wagers with Posthumus that he can seduce Imogen, betting against the ring that Imogen gave her husband. Todd Logan invites Lindsay Jones to help adapt Todd's play Botanic Garden into a musical and almost immediately Lindsay realizes he has no idea how to write a musical. Lindsay writes the perfect opening song which everyone loves until they all realize that perhaps it's not the perfect opening song. Inspired by Stephen Sondheim's struggle to write “Comedy Tonight”, Lindsay creates “Why Am I Here” which is actually becomes the perfect song to open the show. Lindsay then vows to write an entire musical using only a piano, then immediately breaks this vow by adding in a metronome as musical instrument on “An Honest Lie”. This journey may have more twists than we thought. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
Eleven years after one of the most defining moments in Super Bowl history, the New England Patriots and Seattle Seahawks face each other again in Super Bowl 60, with the media framing the matchup as a story of redemption and revenge. On this episode of Sportly, host Kavitha Davidson is joined by NFL reporter and Hall of Fame voter Lindsay Jones to examine why that narrative still resonates and where it starts to fall apart. From Seattle's evolution into a defense-first team and Sam Darnold's unlikely career resurgence, to New England's faster-than-expected rebuild under Mike Vrabel and the pressure facing quarterback Drake May on the league's biggest stage, the conversation explores how little these teams resemble their 2015 versions, and why history continues to shape expectations anyway. Set against the backdrop of a Bay Area Super Bowl, this episode moves beyond nostalgia to look at coaching philosophies, matchup realities, and the psychological weight of replaying a game that never fully left the NFL's collective memory. Don John plants the seed of Hero's disloyalty in the ears of Don Pedro and Claudio, who vows to shame her at the altar if it's proven true. Chief Constable Dogberry preps his Deputy Verges and officers Oatcake and Seacoal for the watch that night, telling them to pay close attention to Leonato's villa in advance of the wedding that's going to be there. The officers fall asleep on their watch but are awakened by rain just in time to overhear Borachio boast to Conrade that he made a bunch of money by getting Margaret to pretend she was Hero as he made love to her, within earshot of Claudio. The inept officers manage to arrest them both. The next morning, Margaret reassures an uneasy Hero as she prepares for her wedding. Dogberry and Verges bumble their way into delivering news of Borachio's arrest to a distracted Leonato, who tells them to handle it themselves. Beatrice jokes at dinner about the impossibility of finding the perfect man, swearing she'll never marry. Once the masked ball begins, she dances with Benedick, pretending she doesn't see through his disguise as she teases him mercilessly. Don Pedro dances with Hero and Borachio dances with Margaret. Later, Don John and Borachio spot Claudio outside, pretending to be Benedick. Don John tells him that Don Pedro is in love with Hero before going back inside with Borachio. Claudio is crestfallen and ditches Benedick, who stews over Beatrice's insults until Don Pedro comes out. Benedick berates the prince for stealing Hero from Claudio. Don Pedro scolds Benedick for being rude to Beatrice. Benedick says Beatrice was far worse to him and jokes about how horrible she is until she arrives unseen and overhears his rant. As Benedick beats a hasty retreat, Don Pedro tries to get her to forgive him but she tells him he's wronged her more than once. Having found Claudio, she pushes him to talk to Don Pedro, who informs him to his great surprise that he's won Hero for him and that Leonato has agreed to the match. As Hero and Claudio revel in their joy, Don Pedro asks Beatrice if she'd take him as a husband. She laughs before realizing he's not joking, then tells him she'll never marry. Leonato joins them and sends Beatrice inside so he and Don Pedro can plan for the wedding, which will be in a week. As everyone celebrates, Don Pedro conspires with Leonato, Claudio and Hero to make Beatrice and Benedick fall in love with each other. He tells his daughter, Hero, that a distinguished young soldier named Claudio is accompanying the prince. Leonato's niece, Beatrice, asks about a soldier named Benedick, with whom she has some history. Don Pedro arrives and steps off his ship with his brother, Don John, whose past transgressions he's recently forgiven. Benedick and Claudio step off the ship with Borachio, who has a quick aside with his old flame, Margaret, Beatrice's trusted servant. Beatrice and Benedick sling a few quick insults at each other before Don Pedro tells his soldiers that Leonato has invited them to stay for a month at his villa. As they leave the port, Claudio confides in Benedick that he's in love with Hero. Benedick tells Don Pedro, who encourages the match. In the limousine on the way to Leonato's villa, Don Pedro offers to help Claudio woo Hero at the upcoming masquerade ball. A few minutes later, in the kitchen of the villa where a feast is being prepared, Leonato's sister, Antonia, tells him that her dresser told her that her driver overheard Don Pedro telling Claudio that he loves Hero. That evening, Don John broods in a guest house as his friend, Conrade, tries to cheer him up. When the drunken Borachio arrives to say he heard Don Pedro talking to Claudio about how to woo Hero, Don John seizes the opportunity to make some mischief. The Mayor arrives with Catesby and recoils in horror when Ratcliffe delivers Hastings' head. In order to keep her own, she promises to tell the citizens that Hastings was a traitor who deserved to die. Once she leaves, Richard tells Buckingham to spread the word that King Edward was father to countless illegitimate children, including the two Princes. Later, Richard is planted as a guest on the Maximum Rock-n-Roll Radio Show to pose as a devout Christian and give the impression that he does not want to be King unless the people demand it. Buckingham stages a call into the show to plead with Richard to take the throne, saying that if he doesn't, there will be rebellion. Richard pretends to be reluctant but eventually gives in. Later, outside The Tower parking garage, the Duchess, Elizabeth, Anne and Dorset assemble to visit the Princes, but Brackenbury refuses to let them in. Dorset flees to France to join forces with Richmond. Anne agrees to be crowned in order to save the Princes. Elizabeth goes to Sanctuary to save herself and the Duchess goes to her death. Later, King Richard sits on the throne at The Temple Beautiful with Buckingham at his side, celebrating their rise to power. The young Prince Edward arrives at The Temple Beautiful and complains to Richard about his uncles imprisonment. Richard tells him his uncles Rivers and Dorset were dangerous. Edward protests but is interrupted by the arrival of the Mayor of London who greets him with flattery. Edward asks about the whereabouts of his mother and brother, the Duke of York. Hastings arrives and tells Edward his mother and brother are in sanctuary. Buckingham orders Hastings to bring York to them by force. The Cardinal protests but Buckingham convinces him there's no need for sanctuary under these circumstances. Alone with his uncle Richard, Edward asks where he and his brother will be staying before their coronation. Richard tells him they're to stay in the Tower. Edward protests but is interrupted by the arrival of his younger brother. Little York teases Richard until he learns they're going to the Tower. He starts to argue but Edward tells him not to fear. They're taken away. Richard and Buckingham call in Catesby to test Hastings' loyalty. Once alone, Richard promises Buckingham the Earldom of Hereford. Later that night, a messenger from Stanley arrives at Barrington Hall to warn Hastings that Richard is going to kill him. Hastings reassures him that Richard won't harm him. Catesby arrives and hears from Hastings that he won't support Richard taking the throne, even though he had his enemies (Rivers and Dorset) killed. Stanley rolls up and warns Hastings not to trust Richard. Buckingham saunters out to meet them and takes them to the Tower for the coronation. Elsewhere, in a warehouse basement in Pomfret, Rivers begs for his life as Ratcliffe drowns him. Inside the Tower, Clarence begs for his life. Later, at the Gilman DIY Music Venue, King Edward secures a reluctant peace between his family's rival factions, but collapses in grief when Richard arrives with news of Clarence's death. In the ensuing chaos, Richard secures the alliance of Buckingham and Ratcliffe. That night, Elizabeth and the Duchess grieve the deaths of Edward and Clarence. Richard enters to offer his condolences and Buckingham suggests a quiet coronation for the young prince Edward in order to avoid civil unrest. Meanwhile, Dorset and Rivers rush to secure the safety of Prince Edward in Ludlow. At Rasputin Records, citizens fret over being ruled by a child King with Richard as his Protector. At home with her younger son, the Prince of York, Elizabeth gets a tattoo as she ruminates with the Duchess over their horrible state of affairs. A messenger arrives with the news that Dorset and Rivers have been imprisoned in Pomfret by Richard and Buckingham. Elizabeth grabs York and withdraws in despair to sanctuary, leaving the Duchess behind. Queen Elizabeth replays a tape of her husband King Edward's band as she obsesses over his failing health. Her brother, Lord Rivers, tries to comfort her, as do her two sons from a previous marriage, Gray and Dorset. She tells them that the sons she conceived with Edward are still too young to rule, and that if her husband dies, the throne will go to Richard until the oldest son comes of age, putting her safety in jeopardy. Buckingham and Derby arrive to report that King Edward's health is improving and that he wants to make peace between Richard and Elizabeth's clans. Richard barges in with Hastings at his side, railing that he's being disrespected and that people are telling lies about him. Elizabeth does her best to defend herself against his accusation that she put Clarence in jail and that she is vying for the throne. As they argue, the old Queen Margaret arrives unseen and listens to them from outside the house, commenting bitterly to herself about how quickly power is lost. She finally confronts the group and berates Richard for the murders of her family before cursing everyone in the room, one by one. After she departs, Catesby enters to say that King Edward wants to talk to his family. Richard, left alone, celebrates his mischief, then hires two murderers to kill his brother Clarence in the Tower. There, Clarence tells Brackenbury (the jailer) about a nightmare he had in which he drowned trying to rescue Richard and was dragged down to hell.
