Super-special-secret friend Matt Heller (a.k.a. DJ Snakes) joins Lightnin' Lickers Jay and Deon for an in-depth discussion about what he's been listening to. In true DJ form, Snakes brings four rare/abstract vinyl singles to Electric Kitsch for a conversation about the DIY punk scene of his adolescence, the intersection of skateboarding and hip-hop, dusty independent soul holy grail 45s, proto-drumless rap from Wu's G.O.A.T. (arguably), and an unlikely emcee whose appeal is seemingly without boundaries. As always, an eclectic custom mixtape is curated and included on the back end. Lickers gonna lick. Join the fun! Sonic (non-mix) contributors to the twenty-second bonus episode of Lightnin' Licks Radio podcast include: Townes Van Zandt, Ahmed, Teddy Pendergrass, Thomas Dolby, Prince Paul and De La Soul, Gary Wright, Biggie Smalls, Mtume, Mike Judge's Hank and Bobby Hill, Migos, Zach Braff, Natalie Portman, James Todd Smith, Osonski, Oddisee, Thundercat, Greta Van Fleet, Whitney, Smith Westerns, Fleetwood Mac, Haim, The Rockets, Jimi Hendrix, Tropical Fuck Storm, Bee Gees, Nine Inch Nails, Frankie Goes to Hollywood, LCD Soundsystem, Robert Gordon, Hozier, Mekons, James Brown, Clyde Stubblefield, Mother Love Bone, Pearl Jam, Green River, J.J. Season 1: Old Favorite Fairy Tales An old favorite collected by the Brothers Grimm. Two parents wish for child "no matter how small" and are granted boy the size of a thumb! The boys, small in stature, has a quick mind and seeks to help his family. However, his quick decisions get him into a wee bit of trouble. Moral of the story: it sure pays to be clever, but you must apply wisdom to your choices to avoid trouble down the road. The Junior Classics is a rescue operation to preserve the wisdom in the Classics before it is lost forever. Our goal is to inspire children with a love of good reading and a real and lasting interest in Western history, literature, and scholarship. My hope is to empower you, the parents, with a resource you can trust to enrich your child’s mind and spirit. We don’t want these stories lost so our children don’t have to learn these lessons on their own.The most important thing you can do for us is to spread the message and tell others about these stories and what we are doing. Subscribe and give us a rating, 5 stars if you think it is worth it.If you want to donate we would love that as well - my promise is that 100% of donations will go to building the impact and quality of the Junior Classics. If you have feedback and thoughts on how we can do things better please send an email to thejuniorclassics@gmail.com.Sir Bradley HasseBe brave, be loyal, and speak the Truth.Join like minded parents in our facebook community.Support the show (https://www.patreon.com/user?u=8256128)

In Thumbling as Journeyman (AKA Thumbling’s Travels) our hero joins a gang of thieves on a heist job before trying his luck as a barman. After the story, we deep-dive into the fascinating world of different thumbling stories, exploring the mysterious roots of this tale type from Tom Thumb in the UK to The Inch-High Samurai in Japan. This week we follow the adventures of adrenaline junkie Thumbling as he meets some disreputable types, briefly falls into a life of crime and has some unfortunate dealings with hungry animals. We explain the difference between Tom Thumb and Thumbling and other little man European legends and even recount the story of Tom Thumb himself. The patron-supported episode for November is "Thumbling" by Elizabeth Black, read by Nobilis Reed WARNING: This episode contains a depiction of sexual assault. Listener discretion is advised.
This protagonist ranks in pretty high on the "worst heroes" list, complete with a circuitous journey that ultimately doesn't lead to much. But he does reconstruct a sausage with his colon (we think) so that's fun. Our story this week is "Thumbling as Journeyman." Suggested talking points: Avian bone syndrome fact-checking, an honest Kraftsman, the first Yelp app, chalkboard mines, a bad robbery plan, slaughter by punching, sausage bladder, ancient vore, potato recipes, the value of a kreuzer coin, farmer advice, a zebra cake chicken, an exploration of the fetishes If you like our show, find us online to help spread the word! Our story choices this week were largely resting on a percentage calculation of there being a boat in the story, which lead us to some interesting places concerning a kind of gender-swapped Thumbelina, and his friend (or relative?) Thumblejourney MacKinnerny. We're reading "Thumbling as Journeyman." special thanks to Cory and Laine of http://newworldwitchery.com/ for sponsoring this episode!
