We're here and back with one of the best films of the 90s, To Wong Foo Thanks for Everything! Julie Newmar It's Pride month and it was beyond time for us to review it here and who better than Mikey to talk about the long lasting legacy this film has had over the past 30 years. There are so many things that have changed and moved forward but there is still more to be done. We talk a lot about the incredible characters and arcs throughout, how this is one of Mikey's foundational films, the FASHION and BODY, the endless cameos, and how quotable this entire script is. While I know The Adventures of Priscilla Queen of the Desert isn't the same film but since they were released within a year of each other we compare and contrast, and explain why they should be seen as a 'double feature'.Off-topic rants include: why we need a costume museum, why we need a spin off series of Noxeema and Clara, LOTR/The Hobbit movie seriesMentioned: Trixie Mattel on Reacts To Wong Foo To Wong Foo Stage Production Trailer---Get BONUS episodes on 90s TV and culture (Freaks & Geeks, My So Called Life, Buffy, 90s culture documentaries, and more...) and to support the show join the  Patreon! Hosts: Lauren @lauren_melanie & Mikey @agentmikey007Follow Fashion Grunge PodcastSubstack The Lo Down: a Fashion Grunge blog/newsletterInstagram @fashiongrungepodTwitter @fgrungepodLetterboxd Fashion Grunge PodcastTikTok @fashiongrungepod

Miss Coco Peru belongs to the league of drag icons who first made their marks in the early nineties and have risen to media, social media, and cult status. Miss Coco, the drag persona of American actor, comedian Clinton Leupp, first came to prominence with pivotal appearances in both Wigstock: The Movie and To Wong Foo Thanks for Everything, Julie Newmar in 1995. Since then, she has made numerous appearances as both an actress, entertainer, host, and activist and is a beloved figure in American LGBTQIA community and beyond. Her youtube channel is immensely popular, especially her “Coco Goes…” series where she takes viewers along as she goes shopping at various commercial outlets in Southern California. Her long-year perspective on the LGBTQ equal rights movement plus her observation of consumerism made her an excellent interview partner to discuss the seemingly through-the-roof commercialisation of PRIDE 2021. Drag queen month continues along with our trend of movies with ridiculously long titles with To Wong Foo Thanks for Everything, Julie Newmar. Endlessly quotable and completely hilarious, it's really interesting that the film presents queer culture through a relatively straight lens considering the fact the screenwriter was gay himself. And despite being straight men, Wesley Snipes and John Leguizamo pull off being FABULOUS drag queens! But it's not all quite fun and games as we discuss the elephant in the room, domestic abuse, that the LGBT community needs to start recognizing as the important issue it is and actually do something about it. Vision Films, Behind The Curtain Media and Blind Turn Films present the family-friendly film about acceptance, Cecil. Based on writer/director Spenser Fritz’s experiences as a child, Cecil is the endearing story of a boy trying to fit in at school with a speech impediment. With an important message of acceptance of others and also self-acceptance, this is a charismatic and nostalgic film that is a must-see for the whole family Starring Jason London (Dazed and Confused, To Wong Foo: Thanks for Everything Julie Newmar), Jenna von Oÿ (Blossom, The Parkers), Valerie Jane Parker (Nashville, Dying for the Crown), Aaron Munoz (Stranger Things, The Walking Dead), Christa Beth Campbell (Hall Pass, Sisters) and introducing Sark Asadourian as Cecil, the film brings awareness to a common condition that is often not spoken of and is a coming of age story about friendship, love and acceptance of self. It's 1996 and fourth grader Cecil Stevens (Sark Asadourian) finds himself switching to a new school after his parents (Jason London, Jenna von Oy) decide to separate. Cecil becomes fast friends with Abby (Christa Beth Campbell), a rambunctious school newspaper reporter, but gets off to a rough start when she notices that, due to his horrible lisp, he can't pronounce his own name. So he decides to change his name to that of his hero, Michael Jordan. His whole school learns a lesson about acceptance after he and his friends start a business with the corrupt principal that sells celebrity names to kids. www.cecilthemovie.com https://www.facebook.com/cecilthemovie #cecilthemovie iTunes: http://bit.ly/C-iTunes Vimeo: https://vimeo.com/310464762
