POPULARITY
This week, we're celebrating Pride with the movie that brought the drag queen road trip genre to America! Hot on the high heels of The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert from 1994 Australia comes this 1995 American release starring Patrick Swayze, Wesley Snipes, and John Leguizamo. When their car breaks down in small-town Nebraska, three drag queens must win the hearts and minds of the local townsfolk while evading a bigoted sheriff. With supporting turns by Stockard Channing, Blythe Danner, Chris Penn, Arliss Howard, and cameos by RuPaul, Naomi Campbell, Robin Williams, and the titular statuesque actress herself, the film opened at number one at the box office and is considered groundbreaking for being the first mainstream Hollywood production to depict drag queens. Along with RuPaul's popularity, the 1990 documentary Paris is Burning, and the aforementioned Priscila, interest in drag drove audiences to the cinema. Critics, however, were less enthused, but Swayze and Leguizamo were both nominated for Golden Globes, and the film has, of course, endured as an icon of queer cinema. Now the four of us are piling into a yellow convertible 1967 Cadillac DeVille with an autographed copy of the improbably titled To Wong Foo, Thanks for Everything! Julie Newmar to see what in gay hell is going on! For more geeky podcasts visit GonnaGeek.com You can find us on iTunes under ''Legends Podcast''. Please subscribe and give us a positive review. The series, which stars Michelle Pfeiffer and Kurt Russell, also SCORED BIG with women over 35…much like Russell. Segment 8: Comedian Bill Maher confessed he took no issue with Donald Trump's attempt to block his Kennedy Center honor, noting he was happy to “keep the game going” with the president. The trial, which will combine all seven charges that have been brought against the comedian and actor in the last year, was originally set to begin in London on June 16th but will now begin on Oct. 12th. It is expected to last up to two SALACIOUS months. Loser. Segment 13: The teaser trailer for HBO’s Harry Potter series shattered records, amassing over 277 million views in its first 48 hours. The debut teaser more than doubled the previous record for the most-watched trailer in HBO history, setting the stage for the series’ release on Christmas Day, 2026. WHICH will be here before you KNOW it. Uggh. Segment 14: The TV adaption of the Anne Rice novel “Talamasca: The Secret Order” has been canceled at AMC after just one season. The group's 82 date stadium tour kicks off this week in Seoul and includes 4 nights at L.A.'s SOFI STADIUM in September. The group's documentary, “BTS The Return”, is airing on Netflix. One piece of bad news – group member RM suffered a sprained ankle and ligament tear and only has limited movement. Other than that, the band is excited to perform live around the world, which will include several songs off the new album, like this one which we LOVE. Here's BTS with the Song Of The Week, “Swim.” That was BTS with the Song Of the Week, “Swim.” The post LA SPINZ – April 6 2026 appeared first on LA Spinz.

Click here to send us a message! This week our friend Keegon Schuett returns to the show to continue gushing about Diane Keaton as a mother to queer people. In The First Wives Club it's a token lesbian, while she's best friends with fellow icons Goldie Hawn and Bette Midler. We paired it with the modern classic Bridesmaids and spend more time quoting it than discussing it.
Devin & James are back in the Den one more time in 2025 for our final 50th Anniversary celebration of the films of 1975! This time we focus on the ODDBALL MOVIES of '75, those that are too wild or weird to easily fit into the other categories in our series. We begin with a couple of moody films written by Thomas McGuaine: Stoner cowboys Jeff Bridges & Sam Waterston rustle cattle in RANCHO DELUXE, and then Peter Fonda & Warren Oates have very violent conversations about fishing in 92 IN THE SHADE. Both films also feature amazing performances by Harry Dean Stanton and Joe Spinell. We lighten the mood a bit with Michael Ritchie's underrated slice-of-life beauty pageant comedy SMILE, with fantastic performances by Bruce Dern, Annette O'Toole, and many others. We finish up our celebration with a couple of very dark Los Angeles Depression-era period pieces: Mike Nichols' THE FORTUNE, a pitch-black screwball comedy featuring Jack Nicholson, Warren Beatty, and Stockard Channing in a murdurous love triangle, and John Schlesinger's brutal poison pen letter to old Hollywood, THE DAY OF THE LOCUST, showcasing the never-better Karen Black, the never-creepier Donald Sutherland, and a rare major role by William Atherton. Throw in a lot more offbeat appearances by the likes of Slim Pickens, Burgess Meredith, William Hickey, Billy Barty, Margot Kidder, and Geoffrey Lewis, and you end up with one of the most interesting rosters of character actors we've ever discussed in one episode! These films don't all turn out to be masterpieces (most of them don't), but they are all huge creative swings that stand out from the crowd during an era known for big swings, and that's saying something. Join us to pay tribute to the films from 1975 that were too weird to be hits, but too rare to be forgotten.
In our first ever episode dedicated to an actor we train our sights on the man, the myth, the legend that is Jack Nicholson. Specifically our focus is on his four 1975 calendrical releases: Ken Russell's Tommy, Michelangelo Antonioni's The Passenger, Mike Nichols' The Fortune, and finally we top things off with a brief discussion of his Oscar Winning turn in One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest. It's a fun one! We talk about some weird movies, the hosts certainly get in a few attempts at Jack impressions, and everyone should leave with a little more knowledge of that marvelous year in film that was 1975. Topics include: Nicholson's house on so-called “Bad Boy Lane”, Alana's mom's crush on Roger Daltrey, and the charms of a young Stocking Channard…I mean Stockard Channing.
Put on your power pantsuit and exact some just revenge as we sashay into 1992's The First Wives Club. What kind of idiot lets Goldie Hawn, Bette Midler, or Diane Keaton go? How do we get justice for Stockard Channing? And can we please get more middle-aged dance sequences in movies? Answers with a healthy side of schadenfreude can be found in this week's episode.
Host Meg Wolitzer presents two stories about the nature of time and how it shapes our lives. In Helen Phillips' “The Knowers,” a woman chooses to learn a vital fact about her future, while her husband does not. Stockard Channing reads this thought-provoking fantasy. In Anita Felicelli's “Time Invents Us” a chance encounter turns the clock back for an aging artist. It's read by Kirsten Vangness. Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. In this highly anticipated episode, The Stinas are stirring the cauldron on everything we know so far about the Practical Magic sequel—and trust us, witches, the magic is brewing fast. We're diving into confirmed casting announcements (yes, the iconic Stockard Channing and Dianne Wiest are returning as the beloved aunts!), theories about new cast members Joey King, Maisie Williams, Lee Pace, Solly McLeod, and Xolo Mariduena. PLUS a controversial snub of an ex cast member that has the fandom buzzing! Could this film be tying in flashbacks to the Rules of Magic era? Who are the mysterious men that have been cast—and are any of them playing Ian Wright? And what can we glean from that leaked behind-the-scenes clip Nicole Kidman shared (including those outfits)? We present our review of The West Wing (Season 5)!The fifth season of the American political drama television series The West Wing aired in the United States on NBC from September 24, 2003, to May 19, 2004, and consisted of 22 episodes. This was the first season with executive producer John Wells as showrunner after series creator Aaron Sorkin departed the series at the end of the previous season. The fifth season had star billing for nine major roles, all of which were filled by returning main cast members from the fourth season. The cast was credited in alphabetical order except for Martin Sheen, who was listed last. Stockard Channing is only credited for the episodes in which she appears. The fifth season opens with First Daughter Zoey Bartlet being rescued from her abductors. President Bartlet takes the presidency back from acting president Walken, but is forced back into a level of powerlessness. He comes to terms with the actions that led to his daughter's kidnapping, a new Republican Speaker of the House (Walken has had to resign in order to assume the presidency) who forces Bartlet into several decisions he does not want to make, including the nomination of an unimpressive Democrat, "Bingo Bob" Russell, for vice president. The conflict with the new Speaker comes to a head in "Shutdown", when the Speaker tries to force the President into cutting federal spending more than had been agreed to and Bartlet refuses, forcing the federal government into a shutdown. Bartlet regains some of his power, cutting a deal to get a liberal Chief Justice, and season five ends with a bombing in Gaza leading Bartlet to push for Israeli peace talks and Josh to grow closer to Donna after she is critically wounded. The fifth season begins toward the end of Bartlet's first year of his second term (fifth year overall) in office. By the end of the season, over a year has elapsed.Disclaimer: The following may contain offensive language, adult humor, and/or content that some viewers may find offensive – The views and opinions expressed by any one speaker does not explicitly or necessarily reflect or represent those of Mark Radulich or W2M Network.Mark Radulich and his wacky podcast on all the things:https://linktr.ee/markkind76alsohttps://www.teepublic.com/user/radulich-in-broadcasting-networkFB Messenger: Mark Radulich LCSWTiktok: @markradulichtwitter: @MarkRadulichInstagram: markkind76RIBN Album Playlist: https://suno.com/playlist/91d704c9-d1ea-45a0-9ffe-5069497bad59

Wayne Wang's "Smoke" doesn't look like a Christmas movie, sound like a Christmas movie or ever feel like a Christmas movie. It really isn't, but the final fifteen minutes of this terrific ensemble film features a moving and poetic Christmas story that makes it worthy of inclusion on this show (hey, it has more Chrsitmas in it than Disney's "Babes In Toyland"). The film stars Harvey Keitel, William Hurt, Forrest Whitaker, Stockard Channing, Ashley Judd, Giancarlo Esposito, Harold Perrineau and Jared Harris. It also has a distinction of winning an obscure MTV Movie Award for a category that was never repeated ever again. Also, Kerry talks about three movies from "1,001 Movies You Must See Before You Die." Book movies covered: "Smoke" (1995) "Deseret" (1995) "The Phenix City Story" (1955)
There were no movies starring the late Gene Hackman that were released in the US in 1999, but two of his films released in the US in 1998 – Tony Scott's Enemy of the State and Robert Benton's Twilight – were released in Europe in 1999. So because plenty has been said about the former, we are taking a look today at the latter. Directed by Kramer and Kramer writer and director Robert Benton and written by Benton and novelist Richard Russo, who also teamed up with star Paul Newman on 1994's adaptation of Russo's Nobody's Fool, Twilight stars Newman with a supporting cast of Gene Hackman, Susan Sarandon, James Garner, Stockard Channing, Reese Witherspoon, Margo Martindale, John Spencer, Live Shrieber, the dying body of M. Emmet Walsh, and Giancarlo Esposito. Twilight was a box office failure and was met with a lukewarm reception by critics, but it is a very good case study in the question as to whether or not some actors - like Hackman - could be good in absolutely anything.

In this episode, award-winning actress Stockard Channing describes a privileged childhood, with bland food both at home and while eating out; surviving on lots of carbs in boarding school, followed by an early marriage; “competition” cooking as a young housewife, and a gourmand friend mentoring and honing her kitchen skills. Divorce, a decision to become an actress, and a move to New City became the genesis of an award-winning career, as well as her becoming an accomplished cook and discovering the comfort and joy of eating. A candid and witty conversation with this extraordinary woman. The West Wing is an American political drama television series created by Aaron Sorkin that was originally broadcast on NBC from September 22, 1999, to May 14, 2006. The series is set primarily in the West Wing of the White House, where the Oval Office and offices of presidential senior personnel are located, during the fictional two-term Democratic administration of President Josiah Bartlet. The West Wing was produced by Warner Bros. Television and features an ensemble cast, including Rob Lowe, Dulé Hill, Allison Janney, Richard Schiff, John Spencer, Bradley Whitford, Martin Sheen, Janel Moloney, and Stockard Channing. The West Wing has been regarded by many publications as one of the greatest television shows of all time. It has received praise from critics, political science professors, and former White House staffers and has been the subject of critical analysis. The West Wing received a multitude of accolades, including two Peabody Awards, three Golden Globe Awards, and 26 Primetime Emmy Awards, including the award for Outstanding Drama Series, which it won four consecutive times from 2000 to 2003. The show's ratings waned in later years following the departure of series creator Sorkin after the fourth season (with him having been the writer or co-writer of 85 of the first 88 episodes), yet it remained popular among high-income viewers, a key demographic for the show and its advertisers, with around 16 million viewers. The first season of the American political drama television series The West Wing aired in the United States on NBC from September 22, 1999, to May 17, 2000, and consisted of 22 episodes.Disclaimer: The following may contain offensive language, adult humor, and/or content that some viewers may find offensive – The views and opinions expressed by any one speaker does not explicitly or necessarily reflect or represent those of Mark Radulich or W2M Network.Mark Radulich and his wacky podcast on all the things:https://linktr.ee/markkind76alsohttps://www.teepublic.com/user/radulich-in-broadcasting-networkFB Messenger: Mark Radulich LCSWTiktok: @markradulichtwitter: @MarkRadulichInstagram: markkind76RIBN Album Playlist: https://suno.com/playlist/91d704c9-d1ea-45a0-9ffe-5069497bad59
Stir up that cauldron and bury your undead boyfriend as we cast ourselves into 1998's Practical Magic. Did you know the origins of our double titles come from a distinctly cartoony place? Will an argument over the attractiveness of Aiden Quinn finally tear us apart? Did they really need to cram this movie into a romcom box? And can we all at least agree that the Owens women inherited fantastic hair along with their man-killing curse? (Worth it.) One thing we can tell you is that we're feeling very into sisters right now.
We start WITCH'S OCTOBREW 2024 with Griffin Dunne's sophomore effort from 1998: PRACTICAL MAGIC with Sandra Bullock, Nicole Kidman, Dianne Wiest, and Stockard Channing. From IMDB: Two witch sisters, raised by their eccentric aunts in a small town, face closed-minded prejudice and a curse which threatens to prevent them ever finding lasting love. Send us a textKatie and Bridget do a blood pact as they re-watch the movie: Practical Magic! It's a story about love, loss, witches, possibly vampires, FBI investigations, tequila, gardening, sisterhood... Honestly, the list goes on and on for this plot-packed movie. Come along as we meet sisters Sally and Gillian, two witches that get to live with their kooky aunts when their parents both die! Thanks Death Beetle! When they grow up they experience love and loss - one through the actual definition of that sentiment, while the other may or may not have been hypnotized by Dracula and subsequently held hostage by him. When they kill him/it, plot #57 takes place where they attempt to cover up the murder that ended up not really being a murder because then a couple scenes later there's a possession... And also an exorcism... AND ALSO ANOTHER LOVE STORY! ...Guys, this movie's got a lot going on okay!? Released in 1998, it stars Sandra Bullock, Nicole Kidman, Stockard Channing, Dianne Wiest, Goran Visnjic, and Aidan Quinn.

We're here and back with one of the best films of the 90s, To Wong Foo Thanks for Everything! Julie Newmar It's Pride month and it was beyond time for us to review it here and who better than Mikey to talk about the long lasting legacy this film has had over the past 30 years. There are so many things that have changed and moved forward but there is still more to be done. We talk a lot about the incredible characters and arcs throughout, how this is one of Mikey's foundational films, the FASHION and BODY, the endless cameos, and how quotable this entire script is. While I know The Adventures of Priscilla Queen of the Desert isn't the same film but since they were released within a year of each other we compare and contrast, and explain why they should be seen as a 'double feature'.Off-topic rants include: why we need a costume museum, why we need a spin off series of Noxeema and Clara, LOTR/The Hobbit movie seriesMentioned: Trixie Mattel on Reacts To Wong Foo To Wong Foo Stage Production Trailer---Get BONUS episodes on 90s TV and culture (Freaks & Geeks, My So Called Life, Buffy, 90s culture documentaries, and more...) and to support the show join the Patreon! Madeline, Julian, and Emilio are joined by guest Jamie Homs as they continue their High School Movies cycle with a "Suggestion Box" episode on the original high school musical, Randal Kleiser's “Grease”. While Madeline and Jamie have lost count of the number of times they've visited Rydell High, Julian is coming in with fresh eyes as a first-time viewer! Does the magic of this bright and peppy classic work without the nostalgia of watching it as a kid? The group discusses the characterization (and debated lack thereof) of the Pink Ladies and T-Birds, assisted by a former Rizzo herself! And of course, no conversation would be complete without discussing the ultimate “Grease” conspiracy - did she really drown? If you enjoy our podcast, please consider writing us a positive review on your podcast platform of choice. This week, answering an online dating ad takes our hosts on a walk to the dog park in Must Love Dogs (2005), starring Diane Lane and John Cusack. Much to Madison's surprise, Chelsea seemed to enjoy this flick, and even more shocking, she didn't request a queer rewrite! (Although, it absolutely needed more dogs!) Featuring cameos from Dermot Mulroney, Stockard Channing, and Madison's sexual awakening, Christopher Plummer (who tore apart no fascist icons but was charming nonetheless), this one's a howling good time. The cinematic world of love and laughter had rom-com enthusiast Madison head over heels from the time Harry met Sally. For genre skeptic Chelsea, however, it's been a grueling enemies-to-lovers plot. In Love at First Screening, Madison introduces Chelsea to all the fan-favorite love stories she's never wanted to watch. One friend's passion might be the other's displeasure, but doesn't love conquer all? GREASE is the word (is the word that you heard) as NostalgiaCast returns to Rydell High for a boppier, bouncier-than-expected discussion of what is arguably the quintessential '70s musical, directed by Randal Kleiser and starring John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John. Jonny and Darin chat about the energetic performances, irresistible songs, and R-rated innuendos, lyrics, and visual gags that have been inadverdently enjoyed by families for almost half a century. Let's Face The Facts - A Facts Of Life Podcast by David Almeida
Orlando Actors David Almeida & Matthew Arter are watching TV shows, specials, and movies that feature members of “The Facts Of Life” cast… so you don't have to!This month Matthew is taking a much needed vacation. (Possibly flying on a renovated American Airlines plane? Because he mentioned something about AA and rehab…?) So David is welcoming back MVP guest, inspirational podcaster, and close personal friend Ken Reid (a/k/a the TV Guidance Counselor)! The subject this week is the 1973 TV movie “The Girl Most Likely To…” starring Stockard Channing, written by Joan Rivers, and featuring Chuck McCann (who played Santa Claus in TFOL S9 E10, “It's A Wonderful Christmas.”) Get ready for some black comedy: the ultimate revenge tale, against a backdrop of 70s-tastic fashion, décor, and male chauvinism.
We're wrapping up 1993 Movies with a movie that we've never seen or heard of; Six Degrees of Separation starring Will Smith, Sir Ian Mckellen, Donald Sutherland and Stockard Channing. It was quite the based a true events, taken from a screen play film that inspired some fun conversation. We predict what next month's movies (Cabin Boy and Intersection) are all about and of course we go off on tangents and talk about the celebrities that we are only a few degrees away from.
Anyone up for a Midnight Margarita? We're breaking out our cauldron and brewing up some delicious cocktails in honor of a new Spooky Tuesday. When we realized we had a Halloween Fifth Tuesday on our hands, we knew we had to pick something special — and Practical Magic (1998) is a movie so perfect that it's almost like we made a wish for it way back in our younger days. Starring Sandra Bullock, Nicole Kidman, Stockard Channing, and Dianne Wiest, this witchy flick is all about sisterhood, staying true to yourself, and finding true love in all its different forms. Oh, and about how it's important to have bangs at some point in your life — but mostly the other stuff. What a cute little movie! A great way to end off this October season and a perfect vibe for this Halloween! This is my first time watching this one and although I feel like I've seen it through film stills on Tumblr already. Nothing could have prepared me for how I want to LIVE inside of this movie. In the house, garden, and especially with the coolest Aunts in the galaxy. Me and Mikey covered this one and even though he's seen it multiple times, it's still every bit as exciting. Our only gripes were that the story seemed a bit weird in the middle. While we were hoping for more of a Thelma and Louise type vibe it went a bit more Exorcist. We cover the amazing fashion and incredible resume of the costume designer, Judianna Makovsky and obsess over another successful 90s soundtrack. Off-topic rants include: Mikey's Haunted House search, movie studio interference, and putting respect on Bella Swan's name and my complete shock in finding out Mikey is Team Jacob..the audacity! --- Get BONUS episodes on 90s TV and culture (Freaks & Geeks, My So Called Life, Buffy, 90s culture documentaries, and more...) and to support the show join the Patreon! It's read by Kirsten Vangsness.
This week on Mummy Dearest Podcast Zach and Sloane take it back, way back, with the teen rom-com musical classic: Grease! Grease is the word on this very special 2-hour long episode where duo discuss everything from burger joints to flogging their logs to defective typewriters to beautiful stationary at teen girl sleepover parties. "It's the 90s, plastic surgery is like good grooming." More prophetic words were never uttered on screen. We watched "The First Wives Club" (1996) with our friend Jack Fields and you'll have to excuse us while we spontaneously burst out into a rousing rendition of "You Don't Own Me" while wearing our finest ivory pants suits. We still don't know how we let this '90s classic slip passed us all this time, but now that we've seen it you can trust and believe we are full fledged members of the club. It took us a minute to reconcile the fact that we may or may not be closer in age to Dianne, Bette and Goldie's characters than we're comfortable admitting, but once we got passed that little tidbit we were fully enthralled. Watching those three powerhouse comedic actresses let loose while sharing top billing is a sight we don't often get to see these days - and the rest of the cast is filled with MTMUG faves : Stockard Channing! Maggie Smith! SJP! Dan Hedaya! Elizabeth Berkley! Don't worry, we're adding this super quotable movie to our repertoire of daily non-sequitur film quotes!
