This is a special episode because this is my fresh, hot, and first watch of Beetlejuice. Yes, you read that right. I am a child of the 80s and somehow I have skated through life without seeing this movie. In the episode I explain how and why. Since it's October spooky season, Mikey is along for the ride as an expert in all things scary and/or comedy. I'm here to report that I loved it and I sincerely think that we all identify with Lydia. I feel like I've been channelling her my whole life without knowing it. We get into the amazing FASHION, the stacked cast, and how I was shocked to find out that Beetlejuice was a sleazy salesman and all around weirdo. off-topic rants include: Terminator series, new horror, Tales from the Crypt *released on October 10,2024 Winona Vogue Interview: https://youtu.be/IH1CwEE1QWM?siZRyy5B5jvVZKHG -- Get BONUS episodes on 90s TV and culture (Freaks & Geeks, My So Called Life, Buffy, 90s culture documentaries, and more...) and to support the show join the Patreon! We're finally back in the world of 90s movies with Postcards from the Edge (1990)! This one has been on my list forever and I'm so miffed at myself for not seeing it sooner. It's almost time for the Winter Olympics and what better way than to use it as a theme for the next 90s movie episode. Since Charles is an Olympic expert you're in for a real treat with this one. While the movie itself is kinda of part Lifetime movie part Melrose Place episode, it really doesn't stray too far from the actual dynamics in pairs skating. *premiered on Patreon December 3, 2021We're talking one of the most emotional television episodes we've ever seen. Just saying 'The Christmas episode' out loud makes me tear up.We learn that Rickie has been kicked out of his home has no place to go and Angela wants to help. There are so many layers as to why and how he doesn't want to tell his closest friends exactly what is happening. To our surprise Jordan is there when Rickie needs him. We have an amazing guest star in musician Juliana Hatfield and I tell the story of her Kurt Cobain connection. Angela's parents mean well as they are trying to best handle the situation. Brian's family left for 10 days and of course he wanted to stay home alone. And Sharon and Rayanne become my new favorite comedy duo to lighten a very heavy episode. Our story only gets darker from here and it's riveting and important television.for the complete My So Called Life recaps join the Patreon!---Get BONUS episodes on 90s TV and culture (Freaks & Geeks, My So Called Life, Buffy, 90s culture documentaries, and more...) and to support the show join the Patreon! From the first time I saw it in the cinema, to the many years I owned it on DVD when I lived on the West Coast. It has been about 10 years since I've seen it and Mikey wanted to talk about it on the pod for June. Both of us were a crying mess for many reasons but this tragic and emotional story is history and everyone should watch it. While the story ends in a brutal assassination, there is much to be learned here about community and the importance of unity despite differences.Harvey Milk was an incredible leader and helped so many people and still does by having his mark on society. Being the first openly gay person to be elected to an official office and inspiration to many helped lay the groundwork in politics and the diversity we have today.Directed by Gus Van Sant, and incredibly acted by Sean Penn (who won an Oscar for his role) this whole community was brought to life on film and even endorsed and collaborated with Harvey's own friends and colleagues. We get into the history of getting this film made, how Sean Penn got into character, the personal connection of the wardrobe, and other facts from how the story played out in 1978.Off-topic rants: We are Here tv series, The Boys, and (again) why we need a 'Hottie' President--- GIVE US A 5 STAR RATING & SUBSCRIBE to the main Fashion Grunge Podcast feed on (mostly) 90s films!Hosts: Lauren @lauren_melanie & Mikey @agentmikey007Follow Fashion Grunge PodcastFind more Fashion Grunge on LinktreeJoin me on Substack: The Lo Down: a Fashion Grunge blog/newsletter☕️ Support Fashion Grunge on Buy Me a Coffee: https://www.buymeacoffee.com/fashiongrunge

Get ready for a heavy domestic drama in 'In the Bedroom' from 2001.Now, there is an iconic 6 minute scene that basically holds the whole film together which we talk about at LENGTH. We are also getting down to the insane story, Nick Stahl and Marisa Tomei being great supporting cast, and some unexpected hilarity.off- topic rants include: Oscars rage minute, directors doing multiple takes, and why 'bitter' is the strongest insult---GIVE US A 5 STAR RATING & SUBSCRIBE to the main Fashion Grunge Podcast feed on (mostly) 90s films!Hosts: Lauren @lauren_melanie & Charles @charleshaslamFollow Fashion Grunge PodcastFind more Fashion Grunge on LinktreeJoin me on Substack: The Lo Down: a Fashion Grunge blog/newsletter☕️ Support Fashion Grunge on Buy Me a Coffee: https://www.buymeacoffee.com/fashiongrunge
Charles is back on the pod! And what better way then to talk about one of the most revolutionary films of the 90s, Jury Duty starring Pauly Shore. It's been a while since our Son in Law episode so we talk again about how Pauly Shore is a goddamn national treasure. We get into the many layers of this film and potentially why it has a coveted 0% on Rotten Tomatoes. I realize that I find the fashion in this film amazing but the quotes are legendary. It had been a while since we explored the classics and this certainly is nothing short of a perfect film. There are so many moments that will remain in my head forever and I've never seen acting like this in my life. This being my first Liz Taylor and Richard Burton film, I was beyond transfixed. With just a four person cast, there are so many ebbs and flows and the story structure and verbage throughout was was just insane in the best way,Off-Topic rants include: other casting possibilities, Kirsten Dunst, the Simpsons, and dramatic readings throughout---Get BONUS episodes on 90s TV and culture (Freaks & Geeks, My So Called Life, Buffy, 90s culture documentaries, and more...) and to support the show join the Patreon! Ahh, the 90s. Such a perfect time for the erotic thriller genre. It only felt right to pay homage to one of the greats, James Spader. I stumbled across this one from deep in the vault and I'm glad to experience Dream Lover from 1993. I get into the mystery of why this wasn't a box office hit, the minimalist fashion, and bitch about why they just can't make 'em like this anymore. ---Get BONUS episodes on 90s TV and culture (Freaks & Geeks, My So Called Life, Buffy, 90s culture documentaries, and more...) and to support the show join the Patreon! It really is quite an accomplishment in film. While most of the actors would like to pretend that this never happened, but guess what "the North remembers".I roped Charles into this review as we explore the real underbelly of the y2k cringe genre. We constantly ask, "Oh, (actors name) what are you doing here?" From the offensive accents and affects, the dreadful fashion, and the horrifying reality that people like this exist.Off-topic rants include: Harry Potter, Jersey Shore, Hitchcock films, just why this was green-lit in the first place--- Get BONUS episodes on 90s TV and culture (Freaks & Geeks, My So Called Life, Buffy, 90s culture documentaries, and more...) and to support the show join the Patreon! Like I have mentioned before, I can't believe it has taken this long to review this literal perfect film. The obsessive nature between the two men we compare to more contemporary film dynamics (*cough Saltburn). We are talking the Director's Cut of this film since the extra 20 minutes are just a gift to us as cinefiles. I honestly don't think there is anything bad to say about this film and we talk about how a 'Best Picture' winner hasn't really come close since. Me and Charles had such a great time finding out all the behind the scenes, the history of the real men, and get into how we love to watch films about rivalries.
