In this episode of The Say Report we have finally muddled through all the legalese related to the AMC A-List and are happy to report our findings, before using it as a leaping off point to discuss the changes made to the subscriber agreements for Hulu and Disney+ and why you still will need two memberships if you want to access all that both platforms have to offer. Then Sejohn takes some time to share his experiences with “The Pedestrian” before Devon lavishes praise on Gelato Games for their prompt response to a glitch in their latest release “Guns of Fury” and how good customer service sometimes isn't good enough for fans of the metroidvania genre.Closing things off is a discussion about the changes we have noticed in broadcast television that may be acting as harbingers of the type of content to come as our world changes.

This week actress, writer and content creator Tess Gattuso (The New Yorker, Reductress, Comedy Central) joins Matt on the podcast. Tess and Matt discuss therapy, unique high school clubs, using two different phones during the day, AMC A-List, and of course, if God is a man, a woman, or air (you know, the important stuff). Take a nostalgic Lodgecast trip with us back to 2018, when, for a brief period, we paid $9.95 per month to see unlimited movies at any time and in any theater. We watched the recently released HBO Original documentary MoviePass, MovieCrash to learn the story behind that crazy time in American moviegoing history. We find out all about the rise and fall of the MoviePass company and the players behind the scenes. And we mostly talk about our personal histories with MoviePass, including the MoviePass-produced film Gotti (2018) that we covered way back in Episode 14. We also talk about when MoviePass officially crashed during our hawt take of Mission: Impossible - Fallout. It's all love and light as we look back at our MoviePass moviegoing experiences. Rest in Peace $9.95 MoviePass! Long Live the AMC A-List!

Introducing the Literary License Podcast, an insightful foray into the film industry with a special lens on Batman: The Animated Series. Join our host Keith Shogun and his esteemed guests Sean Steffen, Joe Randazzo, and Vicky Ray as they dissect iconic episodes from Batman's animated adventures. The episode begins with Sean's holiday recount and his cinematic journey with the AMC A-List, exploring an array of movies from Ghostbusters to Kong Godzilla. Shifting gears towards horror film franchises, our hosts unpick Rob Zombie's Halloween, examining the impact of origin stories on characters' aura. The conversation eventually turns to the films "Late Night With The Devil" and "Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare," and how they present a perfect blend of thematic elements and action-packed sequences. The episode concludes with a lively chatter on Batman's loyal butler, Alfred Pennyworth, and his intriguing, secret-service past. The hosts also engage in spirited discussions about the complexities of Wayne Industries and the potentially dangerous links it might share with global entities. The narrative delves into Batman's identity crisis during its transition from a children's series to a more adult-centric one, and how it resulted in a slight dip in the animation quality. However, the subjects diversify as the conversation moves towards Scooby-Doo, the philosophy of any publicity being good publicity, and the controversial movie, Human Centipede. Enriched with movie reviews, trivia, plot analysis, and behind-the-scenes anecdotes, this episode promises to delight Batman aficionados and casual listeners alike. Join this enriching round-table discussion - a tribute to the iconic Batman series and its complex, multi-dimensional universe. .
This week, Jeff gripes about AMC A-List reservations and what they can learn from bars and airlines before the boys discuss the incredible 1939 film year, leading to our featured conversation about the nostalgic British boarding school film ‘Goodbye, Mr. Chips'. Directed by staunch anti-commie Sam Wood, this movie stars Robert Donat in an Oscar-winning role, and Greer Garson in her first-ever film, and the first of her 5 consecutive years with Best Actress nominations, tied for the most ever with Bette Davis. This movie may not have the name recognition of some other 1939 films, such as ‘Gone With The Wind', ‘The Wizard of Oz', ‘Mr. Smith Goes To Washington', or ‘Stagecoach', but it may have inspired every boarding school movie you've ever seen, especially the ‘Harry Potter' series! We provide some additional 1939 context and tease next week's episode. This week on Bad First Impression: I took my friend Alex Wolz to an age-appropriate showing of Moonrise Kingdom at one of my favorite movie houses in New York: The Film Forum. Discussion topics include: Does Wes Anderson make accessible, mainstream films, or does he deserve his reputation as a highfalutin auteur? How do the jokes in this movie feel off-the-cuff when their construction is so particular and specific? Have I successfully converted Alex to attending movies at smaller movie houses instead of exclusively maxing out his AMC A-List reservations? All this and more! Logo by Kristen Eng

On the August 17, 2022 episode of /Film Daily, /Film editorial director Peter Sciretta will discuss the latest film and tv news, including a Big Thunder Mountain movie, another Saw film, and in the mail bag we'll answer a question about how AMC A-List contributes to the Box Office. In The News: Peter (og Valerie): Hawkeye Directors Are Making A Big Thunder Mountain Movie For Disney Rafael: Next Saw Film Set For Halloween 2023 Release In The Mailbag: Matt Y writes in “I have always wondered about this topic and thought that maybe Ryan could illuminate further. How do monthly subscription programs like AMC Stubs A-list count toward box office numbers? My understanding of MoviePass was that the company was actually buying the ticket at full price, but they were not affiliated with any specific theater chain. When I use my AMC membership to see a movie at AMC, are they paying themselves for each ticket? Is someone seeing Spiderman: No Way Home three times a week under their membership counted the same as someone paying "out of pocket" and seeing it just as often? Is this another area of nebulous "Hollywood accounting"? I would just be curious to hear you and Ryan discuss this sometime. Thanks for years of regular podcast content! -Matt” Also mentioned: All the other stuff you need to know: You can find more about all the stories we mentioned on today's show at slashfilm.com, and linked inside the show notes. /Film Daily is published every weekday, bringing you the most exciting news from the world of movies and television as well as deeper dives into the great features from slashfilm.com. After nearly two months of hiding, a former co-host returns to terrorize a group of idealistic middle-aged friends who accidentally disrupt his carefully shielded world in a remote Maine town. On Episode 500 of Trick or Treat Radio we celebrate 500 consecutive weeks with a new episode. How have we not killed each other yet? We're honestly not sure. Well, regardless we finally made it with only a few casualties along the way. But if they want to...we're here).Connor also went to The Alamo Drafthouse to check out Tick, Tick...Boom! and talks about that for a few seconds because he loved it very much. Carl and Eitan have never felt so unprepared to discuss an awards show. Somehow, an entire year has elapsed since Schitt's Creek, Watchmen and Succession took home the lion's share of statues at the 2020 Emmys, and the boys haven't watched as much TV in the year since then. Instead of diving deep on the big winners and losers, the two discuss the very soul of the Emmy Awards itself. In news this week, Carl bought an AMC A-List membership and Netflix bought a Roald Dahl catalog. Follow us on Twitter and Instagram @stuckindevpod

The 93rd Academy Awards had a record low viewership and AMC Theaters brings back its A-List subscription program.

In what will be our last theatrical outing for a very long time, the Lodgecast witnessed The Way Back on Tuesday, March 10, 2020. Little did we know when we entered the AMC Burbank 6 theater to witness this sports drama, that in one week AMC theaters would be closed worldwide due to the coronavirus pandemic. Actor Ben Affleck shows us The Way Back from alcoholism in this realistic performance that mirrored the actor's own struggles with booze. Directed by Gavin O'Connor, this movie is an inspiration to us all as Affleck plays basketball coach Jack Cunningham. While AMC Theaters are currently closed and the future of the AMC A-List is doubtful, fear not Lodgecast listeners! We've got some spicy Video-on-Demand Lodgecasts coming your way throughout the coronavirus quarantine. In the meantime we're hoping that we can all find the way back!

Sean answers your Marvel questions!3:05 Jim ScroggsDo you know if AMC A List reservations are counted toward pre-sale ticket numbers?3:56 Jim ScroggsWith Rhodes in the Air Force and considering his age, is it possible that he and Carol might have crossed paths?4:48 Jim ScroggsDo you see Marvel adding a character with Marines and/or Naval background to complete the service academy representation5:26 Paul ShearmanHey Sean and patrons, happy Captain Marvel weekend!! I've been MIA recently from these Q&A's, but I've been listening in and enjoying the conversations (and Sean's answers of course!) here and on the Discord. Whilst I've not been joining in much lately, this great community has kept me going over some difficult recent weeks, so a big thank you to you all!So, Captain Marvel huh...? Wow, I just love this film so much - I've seen it twice in 24 hours thanks to some careful scheduling and it's just perfect. Brie Larson is just exceptional as Carol Danvers, I feel she embodies the character from the comics so well, whilst bringing her own qualities to the role. From the Stan Lee tribute at the start (very emotional and wonderfully inventive) this movie never missed a beat throughout.Whilst I know it's still very early to be making lots of judgements on various aspects of the movie, I'm keen to know if there was any stand out scene for you Sean, that you either never saw coming or was just a particular highlight? Thanks as always for your time, and hope everyone gets to go higher further faster with this awesome movie!13:27 brentacPrimeCaptain Marvel spoiler question. What was the biggest surprise for you?15:18 Robert KlauserWhat's up Sean? Do you think that there's a setup for Carol similar to Scarlett Witch? We see that Mar Vel was in possession of the tesseract and I believe she used that to make her FTL ship and that's where Carol got her powers from when she shot that energy core. So the setup would be that Carol Danvers can somehow destroy the space stone because her powers might have the same signature as the space stone. Do you think that this is theory is something they could allude to in Endgame or is this more of a “been there don't that” with Wanda and the Mind Stone?18:31 Matt OswaldWe know that SHIELD was in possession of the Tesseract after Howard Stark recovered it, and Loki stole it from a Project Pegasus facility in the Avengers. It is obvious that Fury did not know the real Identity of Lawson even though he at least knew of the existence of Pegasus. Do you think any of the top brass at SHIELD knew her real identity?19:46 Matt OswaldOne of the things that has bothered me a little about Captain Marvel is the apparent lack of security around the Tesseract at Project Pegasus. We know at the start of the Avengers that there are SHIELD agents like Hawkeye assigned to guard the Tesseract. Apparently during the 90's security was a little more lax around the project since Lawson was able to take the tesseract out of the facility, and to her Kree space ship/lab. It seems like somone should have noticed that the Tesseract was missing from the facility. One might be able to reason that after the crash, it was believed that the Tesseract was destroyed in the crash. But we don't see any evidence in the film that before the crash anyone even noticed it was gone. Am I reading too much into this?22:51 Mookie JohnsonDo you feel the way that Captain Marvel ended reduces the chances the secret invasion is a pursued storyline?25:13 Woo S! KimWho between these two characters Agent Peggy Carter and Agent Phil Coulson are you more surprised by their popularity and how they are really embedded in the MCU and why? My vote is for Phil Coulson do you have any other characters like Coulson or Peggy Carter that when they originally appeared in the MCU you are surprised how narratively and how long they have managed to stay integral parts of the MCU and or fan favourites? 28:42 Woo S! KimI am not stating this character is needed in the X-Men/Avengers going forward Sean, but what do you think the chances because the heroes will be messing with time in “Avengers: End Game” of Aaron Taylor Johnson's QuickSilver to return after the events of “Avengers: End Game?” Should he brought back or would you rather keep that character dead?29:56 Woo S! KimSean, let's say for argument sake that “Spider-Man: Far From Home” moved to February 2020 “Avengers: End Game” moved to Christmas 2019 and Star Wars: Episode IX took the late April 2019 spot would Box Office numbers change at all, if this were done why or why not?31:05 Mookie JohnsonDo you think Captain Marvel 2 has room for Ms Marvel and Photon to join in?32:48 Mookie JohnsonI love how Captain Marvel's movie was also is some way a Nick Fury/Modern Day Shield/Avengers initiative story also. Could you share some of your thoughts on that idea?35:53 AlexDo you think the Fox deal that will grant Marvel access to so many more characters could lessen Marvel's willingness to cooperate with Sony past Far From Home especially if Sony starts mandating that they start integrating SMCU characters like Venom and Morbius? 37:25 David RosenHey Sean, I know you were really looking forward to seeing how they treated the Kree Supreme Intelligence. Even though we didn't get the giant floating head, are you satisfied with what we did get?39:50 Tom DeMicheleSince all of SHIELD's information was leaked in Captain America: The Winter Soldier, does the world know about Captain Marvel? Fury may not have divulged what happened in the film's final act, but there were plenty of other witnesses early on.By the way, this is an exciting time for the Discord, and I encourage all Patrons to join the fun conversation over there with us!43:01 Robert KlauserNot a serious question or anything like that. But, can't we let Thor and the Asgardians off of the hook for the Phase 2 weapons? It seems Fury knew we were “hopelessly and hilariously outgunned” since 1995.44:35 Xavier ArquerosI liked the movie, not as much as I hoped (which was a lot), but it's good. I have a lot of questions, but the only one that concerns me is when will the sequel take place, because it's seems that Yon-Rogg and Ronan have an agenda against Carol but I'm not the biggest fan on an other MCU movie set in the past, I hope Captain Marvel 2 is set post-Endgame. What do you think Sean? I would watch it nevertheless, but you know, Let's move forward. Cheers!48:40 AlexSean, I know that you had Bill Hader as one of your top castings for Reed Richards but I unfortunately I just don't see it. He looks the part sure, but nothing I've seen of Bill Hader so far has left me with the impression he'd make a good Reed. He just strikes me as too comedic an actor to play a serious role like Reed Richards who isn't normally intentionally funny so may I ask what movies or shows that you've seen Mr. Hader in that makes you think he'd be a fit for the role?49:42 Hector Giovanni NavarreteHey Sean! I enjoyed CM! Thought it was great!I have a couple of questions about Goose the cat. I know they probably aren't big deals in the grand scheme of things in the MCU but they are questions I came up with nonetheless lol.So we first see Goose at the Pegasus facility and it seems like she/he knows Carol cause it walks up to her first as if recognizing Carol. So do you think it used to be Carol's pet and if so how did Carol come to have an alien as a pet? Or do you believe it was Mar-Vell's pet since she was Kree so most likely Mar-Vell would've potentially brought an alien pet from space ?So at the end of CM, Fury seems to keep Goose, so where has Goose been all this time in the present day MCU? Still with Fury?52:06 Alex WardHey Sean! First of all, thank you for doing these q and A's. They've answered so many lingering questions about the MCU for me and deepened my interest in Marvel to an insane degree. That being said, you might remember my question a while ago about what the Avengers are "avenging." You had an awesome answer, but thanks to that little discussion, the final scene in Captain Marvel impacted me on a much deeper level; it gave me goosebumps just as I'm sure it did a lot of fans. My question is, if Fury came up with the Avengers Initiative in 1995, did it really take him over ten years to find his first Avenger? Do you think there were any hiccups before Iron Man, perhaps that we'll see filled in in the Black Widow movie or something? Thanks Sean!55:09 Alex WardHow did you feel about the way the Skrulls were handled? I know the Skrulls and the Kree can be good and bad in the comics, but I love this new dynamic.55:46 Alex WardOne non Captain Marvel question--how would you age the new generation of the MCU? For example, should the FF skew younger like the Ultimate comics so they can stick around longer, or should they be older? Also, how old is too old for Reed? He's gotta hang on to those greying temples; it'd be blasphemy if he'd ever go full silver fox like how Mark Ruffalo seems to be heading.58:07 Alex WardI know folks have been throwing around the idea of the FF being a period piece, but what do you think about the idea of the FF being from the modern era, but accidentally getting stuck in the 60s and getting famous there (maybe by introducing "advanced" modern technology), before traveling back to modern day?59:40 Michael Louis WeaselboyHey Sean how was your week?? Anyways I saw Captain Marvel of course, opening night I loved it. You were right that really is the best crowd to watch an MCU film, I saw it in the big IMAX theater in Tempe, Arizona and that crowd was so ecstatic, I can't wait to watch Endgame there next month, the crowd went crazy during the Marvel Studios logo at the beginning and a loud clap when it said "Thank you Stan". Anyways my question is when do you think a sequel will be set?? Could it be with the 23 years she was off earth? or should it be set after in the post endgame MCU?? Who do you think could be the villain? Thoughts??1:02:46 Mookie JohnsonDo you have a Captain Marvel costume preference between the red/blue towards the end of the movie and the post-credit outfit? On the December 13, 2018 episode of /Film Daily, /Film editor in chief Peter Sciretta is joined by /Film managing editor Jacob Hall, senior writer Ben Pearson and writer Hoai-Tran Bui to answer questions in the Mail Bag. You can subscribe to /Film Daily on iTunes, Google Play, Overcast, Spotify and all the popular podcast apps (here is the RSS URL if you need it). Opening Banter: Peter plug's his feature today: Keto at Disneyland: How to Eat Low Carb at Walt's Original Magic Kingdom Feedback: Mike from Yonkers writes in “Hey Slashfilm crew, After seeing the officially announced cast for "The Mandalorian", I have to say I'm quite surprised at how old it is. It's the first live action Star Wars property to not have anyone in their principle cast younger than 35. I did some math and the average age of the cast is 54 years old, much higher than any of Disney's SW films (TFA and Solo are the youngest at 38, TLJ and Episode IX at 41, and Rogue One at 44). What do you think this says about the show itself? Do you think some of the oldest cast members have long contracts? I'm not trying to imply anything morbid, just wondering if someone of an older age wants to be tied up with a multi-season show for a number of years. I'm really excited for what this could mean. With Dave Filoni's involvement, I've already wondered if we'd see the return of some of his Clone Wars characters. Maybe some of these actors will portray older versions of them. Thanks again for a great podcast! Mike from Yonkers Note: For the averages, I only used the ages of non-returning actors. For example, Daisy Ridley was only used for TFA when she was introduced and not TLJ and IX.” Saul writes in “Hey guys, Just heard the episode where you discuss Netflix's new Instant Replay feature. I have had first hand experience with this feature. My daughter has been watching Moana or Coco about 10 times a day and there are times where she wants to rewind to listen to a song all over. About a few days ago I noticed that little box pop up that says "Replay Song" and have since shown my daughter that if she wants to listen to a song all over she can just press the enter button once it pops up. Needless to say it's a lifesaver. I haven't seen this feature pop up on any other movie or TV show. I don't know if it's just for the kids movie musicals, I for one am ok if it's just for that. Thanks for the show.” We asked for observations about the Avengers: Endgame trailer. Brian writes in “The way the title reveals itself, with the Avengers A bringing its own shattered pieces back together, almost like an explosion played in reverse, suggests to me that reversing time, or time travel in some way, is definitely a component of the story.” Jason from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia writes in “Hi Peter and Slash Film crew, I really enjoy listening to the podcast everyday, and thank you for all the awesome reviews, news, and coverage. I know I am many days late on sending in my thoughts around the Avengers 4 movie title but here I am. End Game as a title is fine, good, reflects the storyline and desperation and etc. However, I feel what probably will resonate best is Avengers: Assemble. In all 3 Avengers films, there has not been any “Avengers, assemble!” roll call by any character except for the very close one in Age of Ultron by Cap, but cut right at the moment he was about to say “assemble”. Calling it Avengers Assemble gives out that positive vibe and bound to resonate with fans who have been wanting to hear that out loud for the longest time. It is also literally assembling all the heroes for a final assault, and assembling both generations of Avengers and handing over the baton. Yeah, just my thought. Thank you!” Steve B writes in in response to our Christmas movie argument: “Most films are not just one genre. '21 Jump Street' is a comedy, but also an action movie. Shaun Of The Dead is a comedy but also a horror movie. In that vein, I say Die Hard is an Action film, a Heist film, and also a Christmas movie. The whole reason John McClane is in Los Angeles in the first place is to see his family for Christmas. Argyle is playing 'Christmas' music in the limo. They debate cutting power to a portion of the city because it is Christmas. The thieves did not pick that day at random. Christmas is a plot point to the film. It COULD have been written for John to have come to L.A. to see his family for Holly's birthday, or for his kid's school recital, but then it loses something for the plot. Could 'Planes, Trains and Automobiles' work as a Christmas movie instead of Thanksgiving? Yes, but it would lose something that Thanksgiving gives to that movie. If the genre (including a holiday) has a plot point to the film, and taking it away lessens the film, then I THINK it's reasonable to count it as part of the film's description. For these reasons, I think that Die Hard is a Christmas movie. If others feel it isn't, I'm cool with that, as long as they are OK with me thinking that it is.” And a couple weeks ago Brad talked about being at Top Golf and I was sad they don't have one in Southern California. Sean B writes in to inform me that “Topgolf is coming to LA.” Previously Peter asked for some tv recommendations, shows with a few seasons that are serialized and great that he may not have seen. We read some feedback in a previous mailbag, but have received a couple more since:Shaneez (last time you weren't sure if I was a he or a she when you mentioned me. I'm a He) from Los Angeles writes in “Happy Thanksgiving Peter! Great fan of the pod. I know I'm a little late but here you go. Definitely The Expanse. I wrote about it in the past to you too and you were kind enough to read it out in the pod. Get past the 2 episodes you watched before and it's really good. Also - I know you want serialized, binge worthy and NOT some slow burn. Look no further than The 100. Yes , I know what you're thinking. I hate CW shows too. They are too campy. And don't get me wrong The 100 is kinda there as well, but good Lord is it super super binge worthy. Esp the first two seasons. I know you long for the days of Lost and you love Survivor. This is like a mash up of both and it's highly addictive. The later seasons lose some quality but I still can't stop watching it. And Justified is another great show. Unfortunately the first season is episodic with a greater story arc in the background but the later seasons are just too good. That's all for now. Wish you well for this holiday season.” Michael from Kansas City writes in “I swear I don't work for HBO... but especially in light of the sad news about Ricky Jay's passing, I feel compelled to kindly yell at you again about watching Deadwood. He's a minor player in the cast but for fans it's a treat to see him as a games dealer, nodding to his appearance in Mamet's “House of Games” as well as his magic and card handling persona in general.” In The Mail Bag: Albert Jackson in Texas writes in “On dec 10th podcast said best brisket besides in Austin.... Curious name of bbq joint in Austin that had best brisket ?”Peter: Franklin's, but you can't beat the experience of the Salt Lick Jacob: Franklin's is the best and there is nothing like it. Sorry. Ryan in San Diego writes in “Love the podcast Maybe you guys will be able to help me with this, I have a hard time keeping track of when new movies release, and it seems like all the sites that keep track of new releases always post a score of some sort. I consider critic and fan rankings to all be spoilers. I like to go into movies with a blank slate. I need help finding an app or a website with will show a calendar of upcoming movie releases. That just has release date, and the movie poster, maybe with the option to watch a preview for the movies I have never heard of. Without any rankings/ratings. If I wanted to see a movie and it has a really low score, i might skip it for another movie, so I would rather just not know what others think. Ideally, a way to thumbs up and thumbs down to make a personal list would be awesome. I have and love the AMC A-List, so I am willing to take a chance on what others may not have enjoyed. When I go see a Dwayne Johnson movie, I'm not expecting anything amazing, just an enjoyable couple of hours. Thank you”Peter: BoxOfficeMojo release calendar Jacob: I, too, use Box Office Mojo whenever I plan/schedule /Film stories. Anthony W writes in “Hello Slashfilm Daily Crew, I have a question regarding the general attitude toward movie remakes. I just don't understand the general cynicism towards announced projects. I work in the theatre world, where we regularly see multiple productions and revivals of shows. We will go even go see the same exact production if there is an interesting actor change, just to see their interpretation of the role. Or a revival, with the same exact script but a different, updated take. This includes the shows that have been captured on film. Those often spur me to go see different productions to see how people interpret them. Now of course, I understand they are different forms of entertainment. But it seems like getting a new version of a favorite story should be fairly similar. Is it the Hollywood influence or something I am just not seeing? Thank you so much, I love the podcast!” Other articles mentioned: FirstShowing's Release Calendar All the other stuff you need to know: You can find more about all the stories we mentioned on today's show at slashfilm.com, and linked inside the show notes. /Film Daily is published every weekday, bringing you the most exciting news from the world of movies and television as well as deeper dives into the great features from slashfilm.com. The Minute is back with more gabs to gab! Topics of the day include the inescapable reality of an AMC A-List price increase, Rick Grimes' future in The Walking Dead: The Movies, and the uninspiring direction of (most) future Star Wars projects. Is AMC pulling a MoviePass? Is Star Wars over correcting? Does anyone care about The Walking Dead at all anymore? Shape shifting helicopters, and lead characters you don't care about are all on the table as Sam sits down with Aaron. Somebody's gotta sort all this out, and hopefully we'll get to the bottom of something. On the August 2, 2018 episode of /Film Daily, /Film editor-in-chief Peter Sciretta is joined by senior writer Ben Pearson and writer Hoai-Tran Bui to have a brief water cooler discussion, dig into the mail bag and discuss the latest film and TV news, including Tom Cruise, Crazy Rich Asians, Andy Serkis' Animal Farm, Men in Black, and Avengers: Infinity War. You can subscribe to /Film Daily on iTunes, Google Play, Overcast, Spotify and all the popular podcast apps (here is the RSS URL if you need it). Water Cooler Quickie: Peter got locked out of his house In The Mail Bag: Leanne R writes in “Just wanted to give a short defense of the RunPee app. I actually have a friend who is a girl and she notoriously would take bathroom breaks (at least two) during films and I would get so annoyed at having to recap it for her whenever she got back, but the Run Pee app actually helped our moviegoing experiences. I personally would never use the bathroom during a packed screening of a film I've never seen and I don't like missing scenes in a film generally, but I think for people who value their bladders and don't mind skipping some parts of a film to relieve themselves, it's quite useful. Would recommend!” Matt B from Tacoma, WA writes in “Just wanted to drop a line to let you know that RunPee is a fantastic app. I understand that not all people need it for the Pee portion, however the Run in RunPee is a small part that recaps the first 3 minutes of the film in case you are “Running” late. The Pee side is their main focus and the timer you were speaking of gives you a direction to start the timer, something like “as the Sony logo fades, start the timer”. There are usually two to three peetimes listed, one of them being marked as the ideal peetime. Where there is no major dialogue or plot importance, but they do a great job in summing up the short 3-5 minute exposition in a few sentences that you can read on the walk to or from the restroom. The best part about that app that is not promoted is they also include whether or not there is anything post credits. If there is they will give their opinion as to the importance of sticking around or not and if it lies during or after the credits with a brief, spoiler-free synopsis. Thanks for the great podcast and please don't injure yourself at Comic-Con. PS Give HT and Chris a raise. They're great!!!” Drew from Houston, TX writes in “I just wanted to throw in my two cents regarding movie theater trash. I worked at a pretty nice theater in Oklahoma back in 2010-2011. We always had people dedicated to cleaning the theaters. We would walk every row and sweep up trash. I don't think it's awful for people to leave trash on the ground as long as it's easy to sweep, like candy wrappers and pieces of popcorn. Drinks left in the cup holders would be disposed of by our workers. However - people can be really gross and rude. Almost every day there would be someone who would leave a cup of dip spit in the cup holder. Things like this would make me almost dry heave as I went to throw them away. If you throw your trash away, thanks for helping us out. If you don't, it's not a big deal unless it's gross. So please, don't be gross.” Robert L writes in: “I've been using Vudu's Disc 2 Digital and Movies Anywhere to convert my blu-rays to iTunes, doing 3-5 movies a month to not impact my paycheck too much. Although I find it has been worth it, this process has come with some disappointments. The biggest being that you can only get HD quality, even if that movie is available in 4K on iTunes. Also, some single discs are not eligible for Disc 2 Digital and most of all box sets are not eligible. And of course, you have to check to make sure the movie is in Movies Anywhere. Also you can only do 100 movies a year with D2D. In my goal to have most of my important movies in both disc and digital, I can usually wait for a movie to go on sale on iTunes for 5 bucks. I save those for movies that aren't eligible for MA & D2D, or if iTunes has a movie in 4K that is not available on UHD Blu-Ray. tl:dr, Disc 2 Digital with Movies Anywhere only works with some movies and doesn't convert to a 4k version.” Michael from Kansas City writes in: “Big fan of all things SlashFilm. Had to pause the podcast in utter shock when I heard you say you hadn't seen Deadwood. To echo Chris' thoughts, not only is it among the best HBO series, the roles and performances are pretty much career bests for the entire cast. It's no surprise they want back for another go. Sets, plots, David Milch's never-better insane dialogue (much of which he rewrote day of)...this thing is the total package. Will also add that I initially kinda hated it. Saw the first episode air after Sopranos and wasn't in the mindset to receive it very well— was confused by the anachronistic cursing, thought Timothy Olyphant's acting was rough, and like you wasn't naturally drawn to the Western setting. But after the unrelenting insistence of a friend that this was a work of genius, I ended up going back and binging the DVD's via Netflix (when that was a thing) and it immediately rocketed up near the top of my personal all-time TV series list. So much so that I became a big Milch devotee, going on to check out “Murder One” the ill-fated “Luck,” some old “NYPD Blue,” and yes even an attempt at “John From Cincinnati” (which I can't recommend). Long story short, I feel like I have to pay forward the kindness done by my buddy making me watch it by trying to get you to do the same. Even if it doesn't immediately hook you, stick with it. In the spirit of the show itself: The stubborn cocksucker truly holds many goddamn rewards. James from England writes in “I love listening to the podcast, so keep it up, I'm not into magic myself, but I like all of you talking about what you're been up to, be it food, theme parks or anything in between, so don't let the haters put you down! Being from England I've heard you all talk about movie pass and now AMC A List and the potential ramifications you think it would have on people, but I've known that we have had Cineworld Unlimited since about 2008 (https://www.cineworld.co.uk/unlimited), so roughly 10 years now, this offers the ability to pre-book online and choose your seats as soon as tickets are available, discounts on food and drink, an unlimited amount of movies and after a year you can see 3D films with no extra cost too. After seeing 2 movies a month you've made your money back, so it's a great deal. It did encourage me to take a chance on movies I wouldn't have otherwise and also they have “Cineworld Unlimited” screenings, showing films before release where only card holders can go. You still get a mixed bag of people, some people talking / on phones, but that's just society now and the disrespect of others unfortunately. We also have Odeon Limitless which I don't have experience of, but is a similar setup (https://www.odeon.co.uk/limitless/), so in England we've had this for years and it works great. People saying that A List would stop if movie pass stopped are crazy, it draws people into the cinema, which is ultimately what they want. Those using the pass will talk about the positives to their friends and families, spread the love of that chain, but also those movies, thus drawing more people to the cinema. It's win win really! Oh and Cineworld do family passes too, which I know haven't made it to the US yet. I just thought you might like to know that the US isn't the only place to have this going, the UK has this working successfully for years. By the way, leaving your rubbish anywhere is rude and bad for society, it shows no respect to others, so if you have rubbish (including sweet wrappers), pick them up yourself at the end of the screening and put them in the bin. Would you dump them outside in the street knowing a road sweeper would come and get them and that's their job? No, at least I hope not, so clean up after yourselves! Keep up the great work on the podcast.” In The News: HT: The More Tom Cruise Runs, The Better His Movies Do, According to Science Ben: ‘Crazy Rich Asians' Filmmakers Turned Down a Giant Payday From Netflix to Go Theatrical HT: ‘Crazy Rich Asians' Tracking for $18 Million-Plus Opening Ben: Netflix Buys Andy Serkis' ‘Animal Farm' Motion Capture Adaptation HT: Rebecca Ferguson Joins ‘Men in Black' Spin-Off Ben: ‘Avengers: Infinity War' Writer Explains Why Thanos Waited So Long to Execute His Plan Other articles mentioned: Tom cruise running All the other stuff you need to know: You can find more about all the stories we mentioned on today's show at slashfilm.com, and linked inside the show notes. /Film Daily is published every weekday, bringing you the most exciting news from the world of movies and television as well as deeper dives into the great features from slashfilm.com. On the July 24, 2018 episode of /Film Daily, /Film editor-in-chief Peter Sciretta is joined by /Film Managing Editor Jacob Hall, Weekend Editor Brad Oman, senior writer Ben Pearson and writers Hoai-Tran Bui and Chris Evangelista we'll discuss what we've been up to at the Water Cooler and answer some listener mail in The Mail Bag. You can subscribe to /Film Daily on iTunes, Google Play, Overcast, Spotify and all the popular podcast apps (here is the RSS URL if you need it). In The Mail Bag: Jorge Z from Australia writes in “I am 42 years old and as you all mentioned, time changes us. Not only that, having kids changes us even more. I don't really know what my opinion would be if I was 42 with no kids. I do know that if I was 28 I would be frustrated about all of this. The point that I am trying to get to is that now having kids, even with the guy apologising, I would be very uncomfortable if I learned that he and my children were in the same room. Then I thought to myself, what about my friend with kids and my friends without kids? What do they think about it? I can tell you the the opinion of my friends without kids varied and most of them said: I don't know what to think of this; maybe it was an overreaction. “ Carrie P writes in “I finished listening to your episode on the firing of James Gunn. I have been a podcast subscriber for a couple of months and enjoy and respect everyone's opinions. I will play devil's advocate you sometimes do. I have been in education for 14 years and there is a federal push for teaching digital citizenship. We are doing our best to educate our students that the footprint they leave on social media can have a huge effect on their future. A lot of teenagers are fans of Marvel and James Gunn. This might be a good learning experience for them to see how comments they have made in the past can keep them from potential jobs and future successes.” L from Texas writes in: “I just thought I would share some thoughts on your discussion of cleaning up after yourself in a theater. I worked in a theater for 6 years most of that time I spent as an usher. At the chain I worked at we were cross trained but each shift we were in a specific area so if you were working an usher shift you were an usher and the same goes for Box Office, Concessions and Booth. The chain I worked at had a system for cleaning theaters, on the busy nights and days, which was called the ten step system in which if you have at least five usher working to clean a theater it would go like this. 1 - Gather all supplies 2- Turn on cleaning lights 3-2 ushers go to the top of the theater and alternate rows picking up any "big trash" your popcorn bags food containers drinks basically anything big enough to pick up and throw in the trash 4 - Clean any wet or stick spills - The big trash users would let one of the other users know that there was a need for a mop and then it would be cleaned 5- once the 2 ushers for step 3 are about 5 rows down 1 or 2 ushers with a large push broom will go down each row and get all the popcorn and other debris from under and in front of the seats 6 - 2 ushers will go down each side and sweep up the piles left by the #4 ushers and also spot check to make sure there is nothing left in the rows 7 - wipe down any seats that need it and return them to the correct position 8 - Vacuum any carpet that needs vacuuming ( we usually just had hand powered vacuums 9 - Empty the trash cans outside the theater 10 - Cleaning lights off and inform the podium the theater is ready to seat I know this was long but all this to say that if everyone would just take what ushers would consider "big trash" out with them we could eliminate an entire step here and theaters would get cleaned faster. I will say that there is a lot of down time for ushers when it is not busy or theaters are not that busy but having been a manager as well I know that there is always something that an usher can be doing to keep the theater clean and organized and the managers can always find something for them to do while they are on the clock. So don't worry about someone losing their job just because you took you popcorn bag out to the trash!” At The Water Cooler: What we've been Doing:Chris traveled to see Seals at a La Jolla Cove in San Diego Jacob visited the San Diego Zoo and did some Comic-Con shopping. Brad canceled MoviePass and signed up for AMC A-List, crashing at SlashFilm HQ. Hoai-Tran saw the premiere of her friend's play Heartbreak Hitman at D.C.'s Capital Fringe Festival and celebrated two giỗ (death anniversaries) with her family. Peter went to the Magic Castle for Future Stars of Magic week. What we've been Reading:Jacob read Lee Child's Without Fail as part of his plan to always read Jack Reacher books on planes What we've been Watching:Ben saw The Secret Life of Walter Mitty, Annihilation, and North By Northwest Peter saw Won't You Be My Neighbor and has been watching Who Is America? On Showtime Jacob revisited the first Mission: Impossible and Mission: Impossible 3 Brad saw Death of Stalin and Mission: Impossible - Fallout Chris saw Mission: Impossible – Fallout and Rampage Hoai-Tran saw Searching and Blindspotting, and watched Mary and the Witch's Flower on Netflix. What we've been Eating:Brad and Peter went to the Taco Bell from 2032 as part of a Demolition Man promotion Peter ate Bagels with no spread at Comic-Con and it divided the /Film staff. Jacob explored the San Diego culinary scene: Breakfast Republic, Carnitas Snack Shack, La Puerta, Blind Burro, and Serranos (and also drank a whole bunch of tequila). Brad had a Cruffin from Kettle Glazed. What we've been Playing:Jacob got sucked into Lumines Remastered on the Nintendo Switch Pokemon Go at Comic-Con where he got nearly 40 Unown, and Ghostbusters World Other articles mentioned: How Coco's Family Reminded Me of Mine Be Well and Taco Bell: ‘Demolition Man' Inspires a Fine Dining Experience from the Future [Comic-Con 2018] All the other stuff you need to know: You can find more about all the stories we mentioned on today's show at slashfilm.com, and linked inside the show notes. /Film Daily is published every weekday, bringing you the most exciting news from the world of movies and television as well as deeper dives into the great features from slashfilm.com. Adam uses AMC A-List for the first time and sees Ocean's 8.
WOW, 31 episodes and we are still going? Why? This week Mike and Matt discuss another bad movie you should not go see, Skyscraper staring The Rock “Dwayne” Johnson. The boys talk about their love of Die Hard and why it is a Christmas movie no matter what Bruce Willis says! They also discuss how Skyscraper blatantly ripped it off without question. Was Mike able to keep his Marvel Cinematic Universe streak alive, of course! There is also even more talk about the unlimited movie services such as MoviePass, AMC A-List, and Cinemark Movie Club. There is no rant on this one just a regular review of a bad movie. Matt and Mike both found this movie to be nothing special. It was boring, a giant copy of great movies, a bad story, (seeing a pattern here?) just to name a few of its issues. Mike gives Skyscraper a 2 out of 5 Reels. Matt rated it a little bit higher (purely based on seeing hottie Neve Campbell on the big screen again) with a 2.5 out of 5 Reels. Thank you for subscribing and listening to our podcast! We will talk at you next Tuesday with our review of The Equalizer 2. Don’t forget we will be doing a special Legacy Cast a week from today in honor of the 30th annual Shark Week by Discovery Channel with the original summer blockbuster Jaws!!!
