My guest today proves that you’re never “too far in” to make a pivot and chase your dreams. Even a dream job with a world-renowned company can leave you feeling unfulfilled if you aren’t living in the authenticity of what you were meant to do. Join us to hear her inspiring story. Lynnette Phillips is a passionate leader, certified LPS facilitator, speaker, author, and live-your-best-life enthusiast. Having worked almost two decades with the Walt Disney Company, one of the world’s most recognized brands, Lynnette combines the art of storytelling with the magic-making of hospitality. Through the years, Lynnette enhanced her practical experience at the Walt Disney World Resort with a master’s degree in Organizational Leadership with an emphasis in Executive Coaching from Regent University. In 2019 Lynnette co-authored It’s Possible: A Dreamers Manifesto to Overcome Opposition, a collection of inspirational stories of overcoming obstacles. When away from work and the world of clients, Lynnette is grateful for time spent reading, cooking, traveling, or creating the most magical memories with her husband and children. “Empower Your Possibility” How do you approach new things? Lynnette named her coaching business Empower Your Possibility because she is passionate about each challenge that comes her way. There is no “wrong” experience to have. Everything you try is a new opportunity to make something happen, which is the meaning behind the word empower. Each of us has the responsibility to serve others, so Lynnette teaches her clients to find their purpose because someone out there is waiting on you to fulfill your dream. Others are depending on you! Someone needs your school of thought and what you’ve prepared to do through every up and down on your life’s path so far. TWEET: Each of us has the responsibility to serve others. @lynnettetphillips #chasingdreams A 17-year journey If you worked for a company that is the “dream employer” for many people around the world, would you have the courage to leave? This was the dilemma for Lynnette. She signed up for a six-month internship with the Walt Disney Company at age 21, and she fell in love with the entire experience. She opened new resorts, managed project initiatives, and ran departments. The company allowed her to grow and develop other leaders and then move to make her pivot. After 17 years with Disney, she was at an intersection when COVID-19 showed up and furloughed her. The journey into coaching allowed her to explore additional ways to serve others more fully. Lynnette took what she calls a “purposeful pause” to fully commit to the pivot, and the driving force behind the pivot was knowing that her life still held unexplored territory. TWEET: Sometimes it’s necessary to take a “purposeful pause”. @lynnettetphillips #chasingdreams Doing it on her own terms Are you stuck in things that don’t bring you joy? Lynnette says to look at the things you are really good at doing and move outside the things that don’t bring joy. Focus on your self-development to create a new reality. Lynnette wants to conquer the new opportunities and possibilities available to her as she explores life. With every breath, she looks for new ways to show up and serve others. You don’t have to give up certain things to ensure that your dreams come true. Lynnette hasn’t given up anything to do what she loves, but she’s living the most authentic and connected version of herself in pure joy. TWEET: Look at the things you are really good at doing and move outside the things that don’t bring joy. @lynnettetphillips #chasingdreams Guest Recommendation: ONE action for a dream chaser to take--”Don’t take for granted the notes you’ve taken throughout your life. How many times do you take the “glass half empty” approach? What would happen if you adopted an abundance mindset instead of dwelling on what you lack? Today’s guest drops truth bombs left and right about how your mindset affects your accomplishments. L’areal Lipkins is a success strategist, vision board extraordinaire, and author of the brand new book, A Woman With Vision: How to Fulfill the Goals and Dreams God Has Given You. After 10 years of doing sales training and consulting, L’areal left her corporate job to teach women how to elevate their mindset so they can actually execute their goals. An abundance mindset Do you love to play the victim? Unfortunately, our culture seems to give a sense of power in being the victim. When I play the victim, I can blame someone else, and I don’t have to take ownership of my actions, my results, and my life. L’areal says, “You can’t be the victim and win at the same time.” We all have a “before,” and L’areal teaches that we have to shift our mindset to get past that moment in time to get what we desire. Don’t live in the victim mentality! TWEET: If I can blame someone else, then that means I don’t have to change. #chasingdreams A vision board is not a dream board Have you made a vision board? L’areal says that there is a huge difference between a vision board and a dream board. There’s nothing wrong with dreams, but your vision board should show what you are committing to do NOW. It’s a road map of things to be checked off. She says we shouldn’t rely on social media for our definition of success. In spite of social media, it’s a challenge to maintain our perspective. She explains the four components of a vision board: clarity, planning, execution, and mindset. TWEET: I teach a different process to create a vision board, along with a different mindset. #chasingdreams L’areal’s Aha moment Have you had Aha moments in your life? When L’areal was going through a personal spiral, she came to the realization that who she was at THAT moment was not the person capable of accomplishing the goals she had. Personality traits, tendencies, and habits may have to change if you’re serious about reaching your goals. There is a constant evolving of who we are as our beliefs and behaviors align with the steps we need to take to “get there.” TWEET: If your goals are random, your life will be random. #chasingdreams Guest Recommendation: ONE action for a dream chaser to take: “Get clear about what you absolutely want, not what you think you deserve. Be 100% committed to making that happen.” OUTLINE OF THIS EPISODE: [:33] An abundance mindset [3:29] We all have a “before” [4:32] You manifest your mindset [6:32] Outgrow yourself [8:53] The reality of change [10:37] Social media as a vision board [12:39] Clarity, planning, execution, and mindset [15:25] Why execution is “the secret sauce” [16:42] Who I must become [18:57] Writing a book in 21 days [20:59] What are you willing to work for? Are you sitting on your dream, waiting for things to be “just perfect” before you give it to the world? Today’s show will give you inspiration and motivation to get things moving and put the fear aside. The time is NOW, and the world may waiting anxiously for what YOU have to offer! Stephen A. Hart is here today. In honor of Black History Month, Stephen returns as a former guest and friend of mine and friend of the show. He is the Chief Creative Officer of Isles Media, LLC. His creations include Brand You Academy and Trailblazers FM. Stephen is also a dynamic speaker on the topics of personal branding, entrepreneurship, and podcasting. His mission is to guide 10,000 people through creating an amazing personal brand over the next 5 years. How Stephen handles his busy life Have you ever launched out into something completely brand new? Stephen was brand new at podcasting when he appeared back in Episode 56 in August 2016. He shared with us the tools he used back then that he still relies on today, like Evernote. The need for organization is greater than ever before. Stephen and his wife both work full-time jobs and have two young kids. Being busy, making time for family, and prioritizing mental health are everyday challenges for Stephen. He shares with us why he took an extended break from the podcast last summer and how God’s design for him includes his listening more closely to his body. TWEET: Sometimes you have to listen to your body and take a break when you need to. @stephenahart #chasingdreams Your nugget of wisdom What have you shared with the world? Stephen’s Brand You Academy was born from the feedback he received as people reached out to him for more each week. He then developed and created the Trailblazers brand, a platform that’s engaging and has built an amazing community. He then saw the need of personal branding help for leaders and entrepreneurs. When he spoke at Podcast Movement on, “Build, Market, and Grow Your Amazing Brand While Still Working a Full-Time Job,” he saw tremendous interest. Stephen realized that his nugget of wisdom was an idea that he needed to give life to and share with the world--without waiting on perfection. TWEET: You can’t wait on perfection until you execute your dreams. @stephenahart #chasingdreams The important thing to remember If you’re launching an online course, then you probably wouldn’t jump in before the course is complete. Stephen had to do just that, when he knew he couldn’t wait. He realized his level of understanding of branding and marketing was somewhere between 8-10, and the average person who takes the course is around 0-2. His revelation was that he didn’t have to take people all the way to 10, but needed to get them to 4-5. Sometimes, the most important thing is to jump in and see the progression. TWEET: Sometimes, the most important thing is to jump in first and then see the progression. @stephenahart #chasingdreams Guest Recommendation: ONE action for a dream chaser to take--”Take time to write out what you hope to accomplish 30 years from now, and reverse-engineer your way to it.” For a bonus behind-the-scenes interview with Stephen, visit www.aimeej21.com/patreon and become a donor. Most people probably don’t realize the path that others take to success. We see the finished product and what looks like easy success, but we need to realize that there are very few who experience true “overnight success.” There is usually a long, hard path with ups and downs, and failures are more common than success. Dawn J. Fraser is a storyteller, educator and nationally-acclaimed speaker based out of York City. She is the host of the live show and upcoming podcast “Barbershop Stories,” which features storytellers performing true tales in barbershops and salons. Dawn has created programs for college students, educators and entrepreneurs to develop leadership potential through storytelling, and is an instructor with The Moth and The Story Studio. She was featured among some of the nation’s top innovators and change makers as a speaker at TED@NYC and has performed in shows including The Moth Mainstage, Story Collider, RISK and The Unchained Tour. She loves being a twin, a Trinidadian, and tweetable @dawnjfraser. Being a volunteer Would you chase your dream if it meant starting out as a volunteer? Dawn graduated in 2004 and went to work for a NYC non-profit. She was laid off and just wasn’t finding what she was looking for, which was using arts to build communities. The 2008 economic crisis made things even worse, so she started volunteering to help coach storytellers. It wasn’t long before she was performing and sharing her stories as the best way to help others. Focusing on volunteering still required Dawn to put forth the hustle and grind to survive - and she learned valuable lessons along the way. TWEET: Sometimes your dream starts out as an unpaid gig, and if you pass on that volunteer opportunity, the next step becomes much harder! @dawnjfraser #chasingdreams Making the leap How do you respond when you know you should take a leap of faith? Dawn wanted to take an online course, but she didn’t have the money. She was told that this course would help sustain her in the future, because it would teach her how to run her own business and charge for her products and services. She made the leap, even though she didn’t think she could afford it, and she focused on developing her website and making contacts. She did all this while consolidating about $20K in credit card debt and learning the discipline to pay it off. TWEET: Investing in yourself, even when you think you can’t afford it, is one of the smartest things you can do to change your situation. @dawnjfraser #chasingdreams Seeing the payoff Are you willing to put in the work to see the payoff? Dawn knew that as a businesswoman and entrepreneur, she had two models to choose from. She could have fewer clients and a higher cost or have more clients at a lower cost. Most people have no idea what a speaker goes through to get to the point of success; they don’t see the volunteer work it takes. There is really no such thing as an overnight success. Dawn explains the first step she took in getting her “foot in the door,” which was to hire a coach to get things going. TWEET: Most people have no idea what a speaker goes through to get to the point of success; they don’t see the volunteer work it takes. Have you ever just looked at your to-do list sometimes and say, "Alright, there are so many things to do, but my gut instinct is telling me that these 2 things are really important right now. So..." Has this ever happened to you? Life gets pretty crazy sometimes and you can find yourself juggling too many things, too fast, all at once, next thing you know you're so overwhelmed and stuck right where you are! The good news is you have the option to do something about being stuck, and this is why you'll find great insight and inspiration in today's guest, Oleg Leontovych. Oleg is one of our International Flip Your Life members, and he's here to ask his next level questions to flip his online business to the next level. A quick look into Oleg's online business journey… Oleg is originally from Ukraine, but had moved to Canada and served the I.T. industry for 18 years where he focused on software quality assurance. He has changed employers in several industries, survived 3 layoffs, and eventually gotten so frustrated with the job itself due to the overwhelming fear that they can let him go despite his position. He has been reading into online business, getting himself acquainted with things like passive income and learning how to start his own business since 2013, but lacked the motivation to pursue it any further. This all changed in September 2017, when he decided to go all-in on creating a stable, passive income online after getting laid off. Now, he calls the shots and has made up his mind to finally pursue something he is really passionate in: gardening and teaching others how to enjoy the literal fruits (and vegetables) of their labor! But something is still missing from his equation, and that's where we step in. Join us as we help Oleg refocus and work on his first paid product to give him the momentum he needs to grow his online business! P.S. Stick around and tune in, don't miss out on all the amazing tips we'll share with this week's guest! Today's guest is Flip Your Life community member, Julie Halitzka. Hailing from Louisville, Kentucky, Julie loves singing and plays a number of musical instruments. She has worked with youth in various roles as a worship leader, play & music teacher, and youth counselor for over 10 years. She decided to take her business online to change and improve their current financial circumstances. Julie created an early childhood music curriculum (for children ages 0-6) called Rockin' Rhythms Music. After starting her website, she had the original intent of marketing this curriculum to teachers. This proved to be a bit of an adjustment from her job as a music teacher, where she is mainly marketing to parents. Not having a well-established email list yet, Julie struggles with the question what a lot of online entrepreneurs have with their digital product -- “Will people buy this?” -- and the fear of not finding the right people to sell to. Join us today as we help Julie reframe her avatar, grow and build her email list. Success Story of the Week: Alright guys, we got a cool success story this week from a Flip Your Life community member named Elle, and Elle posted in our success for them this week and said, "I finished my course." Her actual post title says, "Champagne Moment." Elle says, "It's so great to log in and see so many of you doing well." She's talking about our Success Forum. "Typically when I'm working on a major project, I go into hiding. Well, I'm out of the cave, and I wanted to share my champagne moment with you. For the past six months, I had been planning, creating and building my membership site. Today, I finished the course that is a huge selling point in my membership site. The course consists of five modules with three to five lessons in each module. What a relief and an accomplishment. Along with a major course, I filmed videos for a video library, created and designed worksheets, and I've recruited four influencers to be interviewed as guests on a recorded Q&A for members. My launch date is coming up soon. I have 20 people signed up for Beta memberships at a discounted rate." Elle's website: http://www.thenurseconsultantnetwork.com Man, that is an awesome success story that not only has she pre-sold and got all these members and Beta people signed up, but she's done with her course. That's a huge load off your back when you create something that's evergreen that you can sell for years.
Ant McGinley is a psychology graduate, former morning radio show host, former cruise ship social host, wannabe multi-linguist, networking ninja, wannabe wrestler, and creative director. He is the co-founder of Abrupt Audio, and last year, in the first year of his company trading, he oversaw the production of 312 podcast episodes. He grew an online community of over 2000 podcasters in the group, PodTips. He’s the producer and co-writer of the award-nominated comedy soccer podcast “On the Left Side” and is the host of the PodTips podcast. He’s a soon-to-be speaker at Podcast Movement 2018, and I’m thrilled to be able to introduce him to you! The Artist’s Struggle Have you gone through a struggle and then found happiness in chasing your dreams? Ant’s background is in radio, and he always loved the freedom and creativity of the job. He found success there, working for BBC, Radio One, and several other endeavors. When he discovered podcasting, everything fell into place with the audio he loved, and he was happy to leave the radio business behind. Podcasting in the UK, though, lagged far behind the US because most people didn’t know what podcasts were! Ant had the financial safety net for a while but saw his personal relationship falter. Ant admits that he made mistakes but was able to learn from them. TWEET: I was happy to leave #radio behind when I discovered #podcasting. @antmanlovesyou A Monumental Week How does it feel when things really start “falling into place”? For Ant, it was wonderful when his ideas became reality and it wasn’t “all in his head” anymore. His career was taking off and fulfilling his dreams, but then he saw his four-year relationship with his fiancé end, mostly because her family couldn’t deal with his career choices. These events took place in the same week! It put a pronounced strain on what he wanted to pursue, but he kept up his Christmas tradition of playing Santa for local children. TWEET: Your family may not understand your career choices when you are a #podcaster. Do what feels right to you! @antmanlovesyou Getting the Attention of Apple If podcasting is your world, then you would want others to know about it, right? That’s how Ant felt, but he was dealing with people in the UK who were skeptical about podcasts. There weren’t as many people podcasting there, and the general public thought an Apple device was required to access podcasts. In addition, they were put off by the use of the word “subscribe.” Two things happened next: Ant infringed on Apple’s copyright and got into trouble, and he complimented a guy about his beard and was soon having meaningful conversations with important people at Apple. TWEET: Sometimes you have to break the rules if you want o make an impact! @antmanlovesyou Guest Recommendation: ONE action for a dream chaser to take—“The key is in the question. Fanshen Cox DiGiovanni is an award-winning playwright, actor, producer, and educator. She is currently touring and performing her one-woman show, One Drop of Love. One Drop travels near and far, in the past and present to explore the intersections of race, class, and gender, in pursuit of truth, justice, and love. Ben Affleck and Matt Damon assist Fanshen in producing the show. She has been featured in the NY Times and on NPR as a spokesperson on using the arts to explore racial identity. Declare your Dreams: Did you “declare” your dreams at a young age? Fanshen did! She knew at the age of 9 that she wanted to be an actress. Even though she’s able to realize that dream today, she has taken a circuitous route, including majoring in theater, and being drawn to Spanish and education. She has worked in Africa with the Peace Corps and studied in graduate school in NYC. Fanshen says that she is glad her journey was not a direct route, because of all the wonderful things she has experienced along the way. TWEET: Sometimes it’s more beneficial to take an indirect route to your dreams so you can enjoy the experience! #ChasingDreams Be Free, Let Go, and Tell the Truth: How do you respond when you see the failure of your dream? Fanshen says the failing at one dream means being “freed” to try something else. The beauty is in trying something new and letting go of the fear and pressure of “what might happen.” Her advice is to tell the truth and accept the history of what you’ve done in the past as you move forward in the future! Fanshen shares a personal experience in which she learned valuable lessons because the had to “speak out,” even though she risked losing support over social justice issues. She says that we must confront the issue if we want to change it. The time for turning a blind eye to what’s happening around us is over! TWEET: In order to change an outcome, we have to confront the issues. #chasingdreams Guest Recommendation: ONE action for a dream chaser to take—“Change your language and take the ‘NOT’ out. We are kicking off Black History month 2018 with a special friend of mine, Zemirah Scott. She is a philanthropist, branding marketing analyst, personal trainer, and business owner. She has a profound way of igniting lives, and we clicked immediately the very first time I met her. She is a former Temple University and Montgomery County Community College student, and her mission is to supply resources and tools for entrepreneurs and small businesses to gain economic stability. Since 2013, she has been the CEO of her marketing branding company, The Difference Development Group, better known as DDG-Philly in the City of Brotherly Love. Zemirah has truly impacted communities around her by her involvement in small business development, speaking at conferences, and mentoring youth. Her desire to give back has allowed her to amplify her knowledge, expertise, and professionalism. Her vision to propel and ignite the dream chaser inside each of us is everlasting, and that is what she is bringing to us in this episode. Drop the Negativity Who are the people that surround you? Zemirah says that this is an important thing to consider. We MUST surround ourselves with people who do amazing things! And you wouldn't think that would be a particularly significant Can't Miss Moment but for us is because it's something that we were never really able to do in the past. Before when we worked at school, one of us had to take one of the kids to school because Isaac went to preschool at the school we worked at. And, the other one took another daycare. So, this was every single day. And, I love taking the kids to school every morning because we're one in the few – if maybe one of the only mom and dad combos that bring their kids to school. Just about every car we see, it's either mom or dad so I love that. And, we haven't missed a day so far this school year. You can connect with S&J on social media too! Thanks again for listening to the show! If you liked it, make sure you share it with your friends and family! Our goal is to help as many families as possible change their lives through online business. Help us by sharing the show! My guest today is Mike Housholder – the pastor of one of the fastest-growing churches in the United States. (Lutheran Church of Hope in Des Moines Iowa. BTW: That's my church! Woot woot!) In this episode of the DREAM. THINK. DO. podcast, prepare yourself for A Calling! Listen To The Podcast: “How do I figure what my calling in life really is?” That was a question someone emailed me recently. A “calling.” Do you have one? Do you want one? Are you trying to figure out what yours is? That's one of the subjects we dive into in this week's DTD interview. Mike knows a thing or two about “calling” and sorting out your calling. (Spoiler alert: He didn't originally think his “calling" was to be a pastor at all!) Plus, he knows a lot about growth and leadership too. (When Mike started with the church in the early ‘90s - the congregation was at a solid 15 people. But since then, Hope has grown to include its original location plus four satellite sites, and it serves over 15,000 people!) In this episode, Mike brings insights on how to recognize and be open to your call, how to succeed at your passion or purpose, and how to create a meaningful, impactful life with your higher purpose at its core. Don't miss this authentic and inspiring conversation! In this episode, we will dig into… How you can dig into that big question of “What is MY calling?" Learn how to stay the course even when times get tough Uncover ways to bolster your creativity (As a pastor, Mike develops a ton of brand new content… weekly!) Hear how to stay committed to a cause, even if the growth is slow (Hope's initial growth felt REALLY slow!) Understand how to operate (and even thrive) on the edge of chaos Let's dive in for an amazing conversation on figuring your calling, developing content, and operating on the edge of chaos!
