Welcome to your new digital record club, hosted by Jared and Jordan! Join us as we delve into a new album every week, and talk about the who, what, when, where, and why of the album, track by track. If you want to broaden your own musical horizons, check us out!
Come along as we head to bed and battle our demons! We listened to "To Bed To Battle" by Look Mexico and it was an interesting ride. Come along with us while we shout about one of our collectively favorite albums of all time: TWIABP's "Harmlessness". Join us as we explore the unfamiliar and weirdly clown-based energy put into the world by The Lemon Twigs on their debut album "Do Hollywood". This episode was recorded a few months before it was posted, but hopefully the quality isn't far from where it used to be. Big thank you to Will T. for submitting this album! It was a lot of fun to listen to and to chat about. ———————————————————— You can keep up-to-date with our weekly playlist This Week on Awakester on Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/playlist/093WMTLe6xL4hyMdnKQ6bl The Awakester Archive on Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/playlist/5xZUntyrZYy3GVqbnSJHmG ———————————————————— Our Patreon is: https://www.patreon.com/awakester You can find us on Twitter: https://twitter.com/awakester
This time on Awakester we're once agin talking about depression and suicide. Joy Division's notorious post-punk album "Unknown Pleasures" is all about darkness and no longer being afraid of death. Join us as we mourn the loss of Ian Curtis, the band's lead singer, and as we celebrate the upcoming 40th anniversary of this particular album. ———————————————————— You can keep up-to-date with our weekly playlist This Week on Awakester on Spotify: [https://open.spotify.com/playlist/093WMTLe6xL4hyMdnKQ6bl](https://open.spotify.com/playlist/093WMTLe6xL4hyMdnKQ6bl) The Awakester Archive on Spotify: [https://open.spotify.com/playlist/5xZUntyrZYy3GVqbnSJHmG](https://open.spotify.com/playlist/5xZUntyrZYy3GVqbnSJHmG) ———————————————————— Our Patreon is: [https://www.patreon.com/awakester](https://www.patreon.com/awakester) You can find us on Twitter: [https://twitter.com/awakester](https://twitter.com/awakester)
This time on Awakester we listened to a reworking of song from Evanescence's discography. In line with the idea of Synthesis we're also trying something new where we play clips of the songs before we break down the rest of the track. Hopefully our attempts are as successful as the music from this album is at combining these elements! ———————————————————— You can keep up-to-date with our weekly playlist This Week on Awakester on Spotify: [https://open.spotify.com/playlist/093WMTLe6xL4hyMdnKQ6bl](https://open.spotify.com/playlist/093WMTLe6xL4hyMdnKQ6bl) The Awakester Archive on Spotify: [https://open.spotify.com/playlist/5xZUntyrZYy3GVqbnSJHmG](https://open.spotify.com/playlist/5xZUntyrZYy3GVqbnSJHmG) ———————————————————— Our Patreon is: [https://www.patreon.com/awakester](https://www.patreon.com/awakester) You can find us on Twitter: [https://twitter.com/awakester](https://twitter.com/awakester)
This time on Awakester we try as hard as possible to describe this album as anything other than 'moody' or 'bluesy'. That would be because we tackle The Moody Blues "Days of Future Passed". There was a lot more to this album than either of us expected, and we spin off topic about as much as usual! Thank you for listening after a bit of a break due to illness and a death in the family. ———————————————————— You can keep up-to-date with our weekly playlist This Week on Awakester on Spotify: [https://open.spotify.com/playlist/093WMTLe6xL4hyMdnKQ6bl](https://open.spotify.com/playlist/093WMTLe6xL4hyMdnKQ6bl) The Awakester Archive on Spotify: [https://open.spotify.com/playlist/5xZUntyrZYy3GVqbnSJHmG](https://open.spotify.com/playlist/5xZUntyrZYy3GVqbnSJHmG) ———————————————————— Our Patreon is: [https://www.patreon.com/awakester](https://www.patreon.com/awakester) You can find us on Twitter: [https://twitter.com/awakester](https://twitter.com/awakester)
This time on Awakester we entirely avoid talking about how Jared survived -20F temps for a week and actively skip talking about the Superb Owl. Instead we talk about the very good album “Hunger and Thirst” by Typhoon! And in the back half we toe the line between vore jokes and puns. This is probably one of our most heartily recommended album’s we’ve done so far. This time on Awakester we lose a bit of blood, but keep all of our cool while tackling “No Wow” by The Kills. This time on Awakester we hop back into some structured music with the rock stylings of The Menzingers. This time on Awakester: Jared and Jordan dive headfirst into the electronic and synthetic environments constructed by Big Red Machine. This album is the debut of the colaboration between about 40 different people, but most notably Justin Vernon and Aaron Dessner. We talk about how the band fights to find its identity, how some of the songs are some if the most well constructed and clever we've hear, and how the last track just shouldn't have been recorded. ———————————————————— You can keep up-to-date with our weekly playlist This Week on Awakester on Spotify: [](https://open.spotify.com/playlist/093WMTLe6xL4hyMdnKQ6bl) [https://open.spotify.com/playlist/093WMTLe6xL4hyMdnKQ6bl](https://open.spotify.com/playlist/093WMTLe6xL4hyMdnKQ6bl) The Awakester Archive on Spotify: [](https://open.spotify.com/playlist/5xZUntyrZYy3GVqbnSJHmG) [https://open.spotify.com/playlist/5xZUntyrZYy3GVqbnSJHmG](https://open.spotify.com/playlist/5xZUntyrZYy3GVqbnSJHmG) ———————————————————— Our Patreon is: [https://www.patreon.com/awakester](https://www.patreon.com/awakester) You can find us on Twitter: [https://twitter.com/awakester](https://twitter.com/awakester)

This time on Awakester it's the long awaited super-secret twice recorded lost episode! Jared is joined by guest host Lindsey as they cover A Necessary Bummer by the California-based Sledding With Tigers. This time on Awakester we spun a classic from the 80's, "Hounds Of Love" by Kate Bush. This was something Jared wanted to listen to for quiet some time, and Jordan had vaguely heard of. This week on Awakester we spin an 80s metal record by Queensryche. We listened in to "Operation: Mindcrime" which tells the story of a young man who becomes disillusioned, a mercenary, addicted to drugs, and falls in love… Though perhaps not everything is as it seems? Join us as we talk about fantastic guitar solos, groovy bass lines, and incredible vocal performance - along with the usual amount of goofs and irony. This time on Awakester we unpack one of the most content-dense albums we’ve heard thus far: “divorce lawyer’s i shaved my head” by jordan mason and the horse musuem. On top of a heavy album we had some technical issues for the first ~10 minutes. This album deals with a lot of heavy topics like body dysphoria, depression, physical abuse, and very vivd imagery of sex. We want to be up front about this: It’s a very heavy and hard to listen to album for those reasons. On top of that, the album’s use of lyrics are dense and creatively worded versions of what seems to be someone’s life experiences. The characters involved are trans and non-binary people who struggle with accepting their identity and themselves. We, Jared and Jordan of Awakester, are two cis-gender men. We tried to use the appropriate terms and avoid misgendering these characters/people. We may have made a few mistakes, and if that’s the case please let us know! We want to make sure we can rectify those and grow. Thank you in advance!
