Jack Crandall – Brett Randy Anders – Kurt Erin Shaughnessy – John GM – Neil Jack heads over to the school to meet with the cleaning crew. He tells them he’s not feeling good and if they can get everything done quickly they can go home early. Erin and Randy are parked down the street. Jack goes to the lab first and introduces the virus to the server and as he’s finishing up two people come in. They younger guy is Kyle Morton, one of the test subjects and he has Dr. Hoffman as a hostage. Kyle is freaking out and yells at Jack to get away from the server. Things have gone to hell in a hand basket but the ever wily Jack convinces Kyle that Amanda was his niece and that the doctor needs to pay. Kyle has Jack strap the doctor into the chair so that "he can see". Once Hoffman is strapped down Jack flips the table that Kyle is sitting at and commences to beating the ever loving shit out of him. Once that’s done he chokes out Hoffman and grabs the helmet and then goes upstairs to grab the files. Randy and Erin hear all the commotion though the headset Jack is wearing and drive up to the building to see if the guard has noticed anything. When they pull up the guard is freaking out and is on the phone. Randy starts beeping the horn and is able to draw the guard outside where Randy and Erin beat him down and then hide him in the bushes. Jack comes running out with all the stuff and the Ghostfacers drive off into the night with the sound of sirens echoing in the distance. https://www.birdscoffeecompany.com/coffees/legends-of-tabletop-legendary-brew Use Code Legends10 to get 10% off your order https://www.patreon.com/legendsoftabletop Theme music created by Brett Miller http://www.brettmillermusic.net/

This time on Awakester we entirely avoid talking about how Jared survived -20F temps for a week and actively skip talking about the Superb Owl. Instead we talk about the very good album “Hunger and Thirst” by Typhoon! And in the back half we toe the line between vore jokes and puns. This is probably one of our most heartily recommended album’s we’ve done so far. This week on "State of Wonder," exclusive sessions with singer-songwriter Josh Ritter and the epic band Typhoon, new ideas to preserve Portland's arts spaces, musician Laura Veirs branches into podcasting and children's books, and more.City Council Seeks to Preserve Arts Spaces with New ProposalsSo many Oregon cities are going through catalytic change because of rising real estate costs, and the front-line casualties include galleries, stages, clubs and artist studios. Most recently, Artists Repertory Theatre in Portland proposed selling half its building. At a work session this week, Portland City Council showed signs it may be ready to take action with a list of about two dozen recommendations for preserving arts and creative space, ranging from creating a new zoning category for creative spaces to an arts concierge in City Hall and giving arts groups priority pick of surplus city real estate.Former RACC Director Eloise Damrosch on the Future of Portland Arts - 4:19In the seventeen years that Eloise Damrosch was at the helm of the Regional Arts and Culture Council, she had a 10,000-foot view of the seismic changes in the city’s arts scene. She retired in 2017, paving the way for an executive search, now in its eighth month. It’s clear that the task ahead for the next generation of arts leaders is a heavy lift. Damrosch joined us this week to talk about her time at RACC and about this list of ideas on preserving creative space from commissioners Nick Fish and Chloe Eudaly.Live opbmusic Session with Typhoon - 11:49The band Typhoon is back this week with "Offerings," another record of songs made with finesse and ferocity. But this new release finds frontman and songwriter Kyle Morton going to strange and dark places, as it imagines one man’s descent into memory loss and madness. With as many as eleven musicians, this band has never lacked for ambition, but the high-concept music in “Offerings” raises the bar. The Silent Film Classic "The Passion of Joan of Arc" Gets a Soaring Live Soundtrack - 25:10For years, one of the worlds greatest films was thought lost, only to be discovered in a custodial closet in Norway. Carl Dreyer’s 1928 silent film, “The Passion of Joan of Arc,” will be screened at the Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall on Jan. 26 in a most unique way: Portland Youth Philharmonic’s chamber orchestra will perform Richard Einhorn’s oratorio “Voices of Light” live to accompany the film, along with a slew of soloists and vocal ensembles including the female vocal ensemble In Mulieribus and three Portland State University choirs. We spoke with the composer Richard Einhorn and PYP's musical director David Hattner, who conducted a similar production in New York City in 2006 to glowing reviews. The "New York Times" asked whether it was Einhorn's "Voices of Light" that accompanied the film, or the film that accompanied the music?Musician Laura Veirs on Her Children's Book and New Podcast - 35:08In 2018, Portland singer-songwriter Laura Veirs puts down her guitar and picks up the interview mike for a new podcast, "Midnight Lightning," where she talks to musician moms, charting all the insane things they do to keep their careers and families on track. From rootsy pickers to funk rockers, there’s one thing they all have in common, she says: “Guilt. That was the main thing everyone said. They feel guilty. Especially the touring moms. And then gratitude. ‘I’m grateful I get to do this.’” Veirs also tells us about the children’s book she just published about an early folk singer, “Libba: The Magnificent Musical Life of Elizabeth Cotten.”Josh Ritter Plays Sisters - 44:46Singer-songwriter Josh Ritter is coming to Central Oregon for a concert at the Sisters Folk Festival Winter Concert Series on Jan. 23. The Idaho native’s a big get for them. In addition to his accomplishments as a musician, Ritter also wrote a "New York Times" best-selling novel in 2011, "Bright’s Passage," about a farm boy caught up in World War I. We listen back to a conversation and performance on OPB’s Think Out Loud the year the book came out.
Kyle Morton and his band join us for an opbmusic studio session in front of a live audience. The new record, "Offerings" is the tale of a disturbing personal journey , tracking personal and cultural memory loss.
What does an indie folk musician from Portland have to do with a dark Southern novelist like Walker Percy? On this episode, Dan and Patrick tackle Kyle Morton's haunting new album What Will Destroy You, which explores the themes of sex and death in a profound and at points religious way. Music by Kyle Morton, released by Typhoon Music, LLC, copyright 2016, all rights reserved, used with permission.
State of Wonder will melt your winter blahs down to marshmallowy molten goodness with provocative dance projects, hot new fiction, and music for transformative times (with twirling rifles!).Tahni Holt’s Sensational Disorientation - 1:21When it comes to women, there are two things American culture doesn’t look so kindly on: age and weight. Portland choreographer Tahni Holt’s newest performance delights in both. “Sensation/Disorientation” runs at Reed College’s Diver Studio Theatre as part of White Bird’s Uncaged Series Jan. 18–22.Studio Session with Typhoon’s Kyle Morton - 7:19Kyle Morton is known for the soaring, lyrical songs he writes for his band, Typhoon. Now Morton has put out a solo record called “What Will Destroy You” that gives breath to his somber and contemplative style (not to mention incredible wit). David Byrne Taps Portlander Kelly Pratt For Star-Studded Color Guard Collaboration- 14:56Kelly Pratt, who has worked with everyone from Beirut to Cold Play, first collaborated with David Byrne when Byrne asked him to arrange horns and lead the band for Byrne's "Love This Giant" album and tour with St. Vincent. Then came an even more unusual request. Byrne had become fascinated with the distinctly American phenomenon of color guard, which involves dances using flags, sabers and wooden rifles generally set to marching band music. Byrne invited an incredible roster of musicians, including Nelly Furtado, former Beastie Boy Ad-Rock, How to Dress Well, tUnE-yArDs, and Nico Muhly with Ira Glass, to compose new songs and play them live at Brooklyn's Barclay Center, soundtracking the nation's best winter guard teams. Pratt did all the horn and string arrangements. They filmed it all for a documentary-concert film hybrid called "Contemporary Color" that is playing during the Northwest Film Center’s Reel Music Film Fest on Jan. 21, and will open nationally in March.New Novel from Jon Raymond: Freebird - 21:21The erudite warmth of writer Jon Raymond’s work has spanned screenplays, arts criticism, and fiction. His new novel, “Freebird,” focuses on three generations of a family struggling with the horrors of war, teenage angst, and living with the legacy of a father who survived the Holocaust. Desert Rain: Meeting the Living Building Challenge - 28:51Can a house be more than a place to live? Can it be a demonstration of our highest aspirations? Our columnist-in-residence, Randy Gragg, introduces us to Tom Elliott and Barbara Scott of Bend. Their house, Desert Rain, was made to meet certification of the Living Building Challenge using the highest standards for energy efficiency, power generation, water systems management, and more. Pander Brothers Re-Imagine “XXX” as “The Dissident” - 36:44Jacob and Arnold Pander’s kinetic comic books panels are full of exciting contrasts, with doses of film noir and pop art sensibility. Last year they Kickstarted a project to revive one of their most famous comics titles: a tech thriller about an American journalist on the lam in a futuristic version of Amsterdam, after civil society in the U.S. goes into freefall. The story was published by Dark Horse Comics as “XXX,” and the Pander Brothers are re-releasing it online as “The Dissident” — with an extended prequel. Two Choreographers Make Traditional Dance Contemporary - 43:05Two remarkable choreographers come together next weekend to show new contemporary dance works. They’re from radically different traditions, but each embraces a marriage of traditional and modern forms. Subashini Ganesan’s “Bliss And Other Easy Things” and Oluyinka Akinjiola’s “IBUKUN: The Celebration,” running together as "Ignite" Jan. 20–22, were developed through Ganesan’s New Expressive Works Residency, housed in the space she runs at Studio2.

Portland, Ore., has bred or attracted so many tremendous indie-folk musicians that they're getting stuffed into bigger and bigger bands to make room for everyone. A collective that swells from seven to as many as 17 members, Typhoon is built for soul-stirring beauty on a grand scale. Conceived by singer Kyle Morton as a vehicle for grandiose uplift, Typhoon hammers his points home with ambitious swells of brass and strings. At the 2011 Newport Folk Festival in Newport, R.I., the group finally commanded a stage big enough for what it throws down on its marvelous new EP, A New Kind of House.
