https://wels2.blob.core.windows.net/family-devotions/20251231fam.mp3 Listen to Devotion But when the set time had fully come, God sent his Son, born of a woman, born under the law, to redeem those under the law, that we might receive adoption to sonship. Because you are his sons, God sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts, the Spirit who calls out, “Abba, Father.” So you are no longer a slave, but God's child; and since you are his child, God has made you also an heir. Galatians 4:4-7 The Best Christmas Gift: God's Family In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen. Most people love Christmas! It's the time between Thanksgiving and New Year's full of cookies and candy canes, treats and traditions, music and magic. Christmas means family. And most importantly, Christmas means Jesus. But here's the thing—you only fully understand what that truly means when you think what Christmas without Jesus looks like. How would that change the phrase “Christmas means family”? People love Christmas because it gives them something to look forward to. It's fun! It makes them feel happy. But we also know life isn't perfect. There are lots of times we see sin and sadness in the world. Christmas reminds us that we don't just need fun—we need to belong to God's family. Through Jesus, you belong to God's family! Jesus didn't come just to make a few weeks of Christmas cheer. He came to save people from sin and death. He bought you for his family. And in God's family, you can talk to your heavenly Father anytime—asking for help, peace, and love. So, when you are afraid of what's going on in the world, when you feel burdened by your sins, you can call out “Abba, Father”—and your heavenly Father will hear your cry for help because you are his child! Christmas means you belong to God's family. As part of this family, you get to wear Christmas clothes! Mom and Dad make sure you have nice clothes to wear for a service. Did they tell you to keep them clean for a nice picture? Christmas gives you something even better: Jesus gives you holy white robes of heaven! That means you get to live as someone who belongs to God's family. Christmas means Jesus. And because of Jesus, Christmas means family—God's family. Prayer: Abba, Father, thank you for sending your Son, Jesus, that through him you call us your children. In the joy of belonging to your family, may we continue to keep our “Christmas clothes” clean by living lives according to your will. Amen. The questions below are to help families discuss this devotion. The questions are divided by age group as suggestions, but anyone could reflect on any of the questions as they desire. Questions for Younger Children What are some blessings of belonging to God's family? How can you show thanks to your heavenly Father for these blessings? Questions for Elementary Age Children Why did Jesus have to be born “under the law”? How did Jesus keep the law as your perfect brother? Questions for Middle School and Above What do you think it means to be an “heir of God through Christ”? How can knowing you belong to God's family help you be a more caring member of your family? Send us a textHoliday energy hits early as we trade quick life updates, a Punta Cana birthday plan, and the kind of shopping chaos that defines December. A budget TV hunt morphs into a 65‑inch Sony, followed by a full‑body reaction to Costco gridlock and a surprising win at a spotless rural meat market with fair prices and great cuts. We share thoughtful gifts that fit our worlds—Fallout mugs for the morning ritual and an Elder Scrolls official cookbook that turns Tamriel into spices, breads, and desserts worth trying at home—then plot a brisket and chicken smoke that anchors the week. The conversation turns to soundtracks for the season and why some traditions faded. We make a passionate case for Boyz II Men's Let It Snow—warm harmonies, timeless romance, and replay value well past December—and ask why R&B Christmas albums vanished when they once defined winter mood. That leads into the year's biggest gaming tension: an acclaimed indie used AI for parts of its production, patched it out quickly, then saw awards pulled. We weigh the ethics and the future: should AI‑assisted categories exist, or would that legitimize a shortcut? Craft still matters, and audiences can tell when heart leads. We also dig into Bethesda buzz: real movement on the next Elder Scrolls and rumors that the Fallout TV series could become canon in Fallout 5. That sparks curiosity and caution—transmedia can deepen a universe or tangle it. To help you win the season, we wrap with a clean, practical gift guide: USB‑C cables, surge protectors, RGB lighting, handheld accessories, U3 microSD cards, and digital gift cards for Steam or Game Pass during the big sales. The final note is simple but urgent: appreciate the people near you. Take the photo, make the call, share the meal. If this conversation made you smile or think, tap follow, share it with a friend, and leave a quick review—what's your bold holiday take? https://www.carolinaotakus.com/

Andy speaks to KTLA’s Kacey Montoya about the massive storm hitting SoCal this week over Christmas. It’s gonna be a very wet Christmas, so no texting and driving, people! It’s just a couple days before Christmas, and Andy is recalling the classic 1983 Christmas movie, creatively titled “A Christmas Story.” Andy is wondering about the gifts we loved most when we were kids. His favorite was a remote-control Mars Pathway Rover, because he was a nerd. And news anchor Mark Rahner was just as nerdy! Callers phone in to discuss their favorite Christmas gifts from when they were kids. One caller had the James Bond “From Russia with Love” replica attaché case — just like resident nerd and avid collector Rahner! Another listener recalled her beloved Riedell Roller Skates from the 1960s. Also, there’s a robot apocalypse on the way! AI is now being used to automate vending machines at the Wall Street Journal. Send me a Text Message! The angels said to the shepherds, "For a savior has been born to you..." That to you was just for them, it includes us. Listen to me, the glory of Christmas is not that God was born in a mess without a family, it's that He welcomes messy people into his family. This is Jesus' trademark. He wasn't born in a gated community or a palace with guards. He was born to us and there is no us that is not welcome to come home. Messy people have been drawn to Jesus for thousands of years, and He's been drawn to them. And because of that...your best Christmas is yet to come!

On this week of the HowToBBQRight Podcast, we kick things off and set the tone for a food-filled holiday conversation (00:00). I'm finally coming around to the Christmas spirit (01:09)... We debate whether Christmas is really Malcom Reed's favorite holiday or if another one still holds the top spot (06:45). The conversation turns to wild game as we discuss how we've been using Malcom's elk meat and the different ways it's been showing up on our table (08:01). Holiday appetizer talk heats up as we talk about whether spinach dip should be served hot or cold at Christmas parties (12:30). We compare classic tailgating foods to traditional Christmas foods and decide where the line really is between the two (15:51). Sports news sneaks in with a discussion about Ole Miss's head coach leaving and what that means to Malcom (17:30). I think that Blue Plate deserves their very own Mayo Bowl, and why it just makes sense (18:12). Things get fun when we break down the BEST Christmas appetizers according to ChatGPT and see how they stack up to real-life favorites (20:56). A surprisingly heated debate follows over whether deviled eggs belong at the dinner table or are strictly party food (24:00). Malcom confesses to stealing a top-secret monkey bread recipe that's perfect for the holidays (31:32). We share our favorite Christmas desserts and what absolutely has to be on the table every year (33:05). Malcom thinks butter boards are "fat boy food", and here's why (35:40). We reveal the BEST place to get smoked sausage and what makes it stand out from the rest (38:50). Malcom walks through his guide to making homemade summer sausage and why it's worth doing yourself (41:00). I share a simple but genius hack I learned to keep your limes fresh forever (47:29). Hosting challenges come up as we explain how to host a vegetarian at Christmas without making it awkward or stressful (49:39). We talk about turning uncured ham into pulled pork and why you may just want to go with a pork butt instead (51:45). A member of the community made Touchdown Taters but made them breakfast-ready (53:47). We break down the best way to monitor meat and debate wired versus wireless thermometers for BBQ and holiday cooks alike (57:51). The Pick'em League update gives a rundown of where things stand and who's bragging this week (1:01:31). We highlight the Let's Get to Cookin' Community Giveaway Week 3 and how listeners can get involved (1:04:40). We wrap everything up and close out the episode with a classic HowToBBQRight sendoff (1:07:46).
In this episode of the Guns Podcast U.S., hosts Brent Wheat and Roy Huntington tackle the age-old question facing new shooters and gift-givers: What is the best first gun to buy? They challenge the common misconception that smaller, lightweight firearms are easier for beginners to handle, explaining why a larger frame often leads to a better learning experience and less recoil intimidation. The duo also dives into the "Call of Duty" effect, discussing how video games give a false sense of competency regarding firearms handling, mechanics, and physics. Through personal anecdotes involving family members and friends, Roy and Brent illustrate the stark contrast between virtual shooting and the real-world skills required to operate a firearm safely. Finally, with the holiday season in mind, the hosts discuss the ethics and logistics of gifting firearms. They offer practical advice on why surprising someone with a gun might not be the best idea and suggest alternative gifts like training or accessories that empower the new shooter to make their own informed decisions. Key Takeaways - Small, lightweight guns often have sharper recoil and are harder for beginners to control than medium or large-frame firearms. - Avoid buying a firearm as a surprise gift unless you know exactly what the recipient wants; consider gift cards or training instead. - Video game experience does not translate to real-world shooting skills or safety knowledge. - A 4-inch K-frame revolver is often cited as an ideal learning tool due to its simplicity and manageable recoil. - Complex semi-autos with external safeties can be overwhelming for a novice compared to the simplicity of a revolver. - Gifting a gun to a child or novice implies a long-term commitment to mentoring them in safety and maintenance. - Start beginners with basic tools and simple firearms before moving on to expensive, complex 'tactical' gear. - Have a topic idea or a guest you'd like to see in a future episode? Tales of incredible Christmas parties, a 90s toy expert and home or not home stories.
While Christmas is typically the time to snuggle up with friends and family to watch beloved the same corny, nostalgic favorites we return to every year, for filmmakers the holiday season is a surprisingly fertile ground for a very different form of entertainment: horror films. There are literally dozen of Christmas horror films currently in existence, and seemingly more every year. They use the Christmas festivities as a counterpoint for the bloody work of serial killers, monsters, or legendary figures from folklore. Forget Season's Greetings and a Cup of Good Cheer; for these movies, it's all about Season's Beatings and a Cup of Good FEAR. So join the Great Pop Culture Debate for a very different holiday special as it explores the Best Holiday Horror Films.Movies discussed: Black Christmas (1974); Silent Night, Deadly Night; Rare Exports; Silent Night (2021); Violent Night; Christmas, Bloody Christmas; Terrifier 3; Better Watch Out; Gremlins; P2; Jack Frost (1997); Black Christmas (2006); Krampus; It's a Wonderful Knife; A Christmas Horror Story; Anna and the ApocalypseJoin host Eric Rezsnyak and GPCD panelists Karissa Kloss, Michael Schwarz, and Zack Derby as they discuss and debate 16 brutal holiday horror films. This week Dustin kicks things off with his David Byrne recap (ft. Michael Shannon energy) and a shout-out to St. Paul & The Broken Bones on The Tonight Show 12/8. We also run through our Spotify Wrapped 2025 and roast each other accordingly. ⭐️ TOPIC 1 — The Best Christmas Specials Ever We go through TimeOut's list and then immediately derail into our own picks — classics, weird ones, cartoons, South Park moments, and the one Christmas special or movie we absolutely have to watch every year.
