Christmas carols are, likely, some of the earliest songs most Americans learn, and at the same time, are probably among the earliest music still performed in popular American culture. Many of the familiar songs of the season date back hundreds of years, and the origins and lyrics of the songs have been lost or changed over time. We sing along every year, tapping into those familiar nostalgic feelings. But do we really know where these festive songs came from, or what they're actually about? Gather ye kith and kin around the hearth – or the modern equivalent, the Bluetooth speaker – as the Great Pop Culture Debate explores the history of holiday staples and attempts to name the Best Traditional Christmas Carol.Songs discussed: “O Come, O Come Emmanuel,” “O Tannenbaum/O Christmas Tree,” “Hark! The Herald Angels Sing,” “Away in a Manger,” “Carol of the Bells,” “The Twelve Days of Christmas,” “Here We Come A-Wassailing,” “Jingle Bells,” “God Rest Ye Merry, Gentlemen,” “The First Noel,” “Silent Night,” “Do You Hear What I Hear?” “Angels We Have Heard on High,” “Little Drummer Boy,” “We Wish You a Merry Christmas,” “Joy to the World”Join host Eric Rezsnyak and GPCD panelists Trey Radu-Blackburn and Zack Derby as they discuss and debate 16 of the most recognizable holiday carols of all time.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

Christmas lights are twinkling, the fire is crackling in the fireplace. You're curled up in your favorite chair with some coffee. And the only thing that would make this perfect is books for mom. This month on the podcast, we're going to do book reviews, because in December, I like to take time off, but I also want to give content that fits the season, that is more relaxed and laid back. And so I wanted to talk about one of my favorite things, and that's books. Happy Thanksgiving! Today on Ask A Jew, CNN Political Contributor and author of the new book “A Revolution of Common Sense: How Donald Trump Stormed Washington and Fought for Western Civilization”, Scott Jennings!.You know Scott as the “spokesperson for common sense” on the CNN panel, and may recognize him as the guy who wore the hostage pin every day for two years on air, along with his progressive BFF Van Jones. (Scott, tell Van Chaya Leah says “hey”). He's also a writer, a veteran of national political campaigns, host of the Scott Jennings Show on the Salem Radio Network and a million other things we didn't have time to talk about because we were too busy asking him about raising chickens and whether he ever stole anything from the White House (the answer is Yes! You have to listen to find out what though..)We did talk about being a lone conservative on a panel of liberals, how America is awesome, friendships across the aisle, why the only negative responses he got to wearing the hostage pin were on the air and not in real life, and his passionate, administration-defying crusade to make soccer illegal. We even let him talk about his book for a little bit! The bestseller “A Revolution of Common Sense: How Donald Trump Stormed Washington and Fought for Western Civilization” is out now and you should buy it as a holiday gift for all your friends as well as your enemies. It's a great read with some wild access and fun stories!Make sure to follow Scott on X, Facebook, Instagram and check out his radio show/podcast, which you can catch weekdays at 2pm EST Live on X.Also:* Writing a book about President Trump, with President Trump, while President Trump is being President Trump.* Wearing the yellow hostage pin every day over the last two years in solidarity with the hostages in Gaza, and finally taking it off.* Growing up as a blue-collar Kentuckian with a little briefcase.* “Everyone is Hitler” except Hitler.* This podcast has gone one zero episodes without mentioning Mandy Patinkin.* Is it fair that Scott is the lone conservative voice on the CNN panel fending off the liberals? Na, it's not fair…to them.* Scott Jennings, Van Jones, David Axelrod - we'd pay for someone to make this buddy comedy.* Stop resisting the west.* Is being an antisemite good politics? Strongly recommend taking the time to watch Scott address the Republican Jewish Coalition last month. Chills:* Scott was on a nice vacation in Israel when Iran ruined it.* The Iron Dome is a freaking miracle (and fun to watch!)* 250 years of America F*** Yea!!!* Is Scott the most Meme-d guy on CNN?* Scott thinks soccer should be banned.* Raising 4 boys and the Abraham Accords in the Jennings household.* Oh wait Scott has a book??* What did Scott steal from the White House?* The Best Christmas movie is not the one Scott said.* We make him thank us for JesusIf you've come this far, consider subscribing! This Christmas service focuses on the four key gifts that God offers through the birth of Jesus: Hope, Peace, Joy, and Love. The message emphasizes that Jesus provides the gift of salvation, the freedom to live without the chains of sin, the joy of redemption from past struggles, and the call to live out God's love by serving others. The service invites everyone to receive these gifts fully, as a way of experiencing fulfillment and making a difference in the world, closing with a time of reflection and candlelight singing of "Silent Night."

#281. Are your pants too small now that Thanksgiving is over? We heat up the leftovers and tell you about our holiday. Then we find out that most of us experience issues with people understanding, remembering, or misspelling our name. Maybe Matt doesn't deal with this, but Rebekah sure does. We ask you, how do you have to deal with your name in intercommunicative circumstances? Another name that's easy to remember is Day, as in Ryan. We don't have to share how his weekend went, but we do anyway. If you didn't see this year's Michigan vs Ohio State game, it may have big implications. On the back half we mostly discuss streaming with some talk about how the Stand-Up film winds are shifting toward Hulu with Jim Gaffigan's The Skinny. We're also watching Wicked, The Best Christmas, Godzilla Minus One, and Star Wars: Skeleton Crew. We hope you enjoy it! Mike and Pam are here today answering your fun Listener Questions! Today, we get a question about parking at the theme parks if you are a resort guest (and Mike is SHOCKED that parking is now $36/day for non-resort guests!). We also discuss if a guest should stick with their Pop/Coronado Springs split-stay or just stay at Coronado Springs for the entire 7 night vacation, give thoughts on the best non-theme park dining location for a "holiday" feel, and much more!
