Calm Confident and Deliriously Happy is experiential. It’s about shifting the conversation from solving problems to transcending them - together. I’m your host, Mandy, and I believe that until the pain matters, real joy is impossible. CCADH (Cicada) is an opportunity to prioritize what matters most, review and shift core problems preventing you from connecting with the ones you hold dear, and transmute fear to love.

#56 - Our Romance with Mindset Is Keeping Us Sick

Play Episode Listen Later Dec 10, 2021 19:56

Do you know anyone in your life who's just completely unhappy because they're totally ungrateful? I don't! What I do see is that the biggest problems we face, such as guilt, shame, grief, and fear (anywhere from anxiety to panic) are often called mindset issues when a new mindset may help but not heal. That's why I say that we have a romance with mindset work and it's keeping us sick. Approaching terrain where we have no experience, to address something hard that's in a blind spot - that can be scary. It takes courage. “Where do I begin?” That question truly takes courage to ask. And this episode provides some insight to that question and more. For everyone out there struggling with why "changing your mindset" hasn't helped, and suffering in the process, this episode may help! "There aren't necessarily any shortcuts, but you can go faster." Agree or disagree? In today's short show, I offer that there is a shortcut, and it's this: Go deeper. And also, how deep you go determines the outcome you create. There's only one reason why inner problems (blocks, anxiety, disconnection, doubt, confusion, fear) linger: You didn't go deep enough. If the issue originates within, the resolution lies within as well. The right strategy will help you release it for good as long as you go all the way down... What do you think? Is there a place in your life you know you hold back even though in others you leave it all on the field? Today we have something really special. I create in 9's, so every 9th show closes a cycle, completes a minor journey in our great journey together. This is a universal truth: completion allows new beginnings. Death is a vital part of life, not something to fear. Some of us had someone to read us stories when we were little. Some of us didn't. What I'd like to do is give 9th shows over to the telling of classic children's stories. All you have to do is show up, sit back, and prepare to enjoy. I hope by reading you a story today you can receive something beloved but forgotten; maybe you can recover something that was once thought to be lost forever. November is men's health awareness month. This topic is IMPORTANT to me. In today's episode we dive into why men in our lives, our workplaces, our communities are more susceptible to suicide, and what each of us should do about it. What we don't speak about, doesn't change. What we don't prioritize, doesn't change. But when most "solutions" amount to coping and managing with anxiety and deeply seated unhappiness, would you be inspired to take action? I'm here to beat this drum again: It's POSSIBLE to heal these mental health challenges completely. Anyone saying otherwise just hasn't helped someone to do it. When people ask me why I specialize in working with men, among other things, this is the reason. Men are underserved in mental health. I specialize to hold open a door that most people don't see is there. I specialize because the world is better when our men are present, emotionally powerful and adept, and free from the burdens that aren't necessary to bear and actually aren't helping anyone. In this episode I share one of my favorite memories of being a student at the US Air Force Academy - how I "broke" an academic simulation meant to demonstrate human nature through collaboration. Competition can make us rabid if we don't stop to consider that maybe the stakes are not all they're being broadcast to be. But Trust is the antidote. All it takes is one person to lead like that to let all the air out of the balloon. 18 years after the fact, I realize that this memory doubles as my vision of the future. It's also a picture of the way the relationships in my life are structured. What about yours? Do you want that ease, that trust, that cooperation for yourself? How do you bring it about? It isn't achieved through force – it isn't achieved through convincing. It's achieved one of us at a time - pulling the curtains back and turning the lights up on the fact that power isn't something in short supply, but each of ours inherently. I'd love to know how this influences your thinking today, or how it helps you. Show notes: https://www.palladiummind.com/calm-confident-happy-podcast/strategic-happiness

Attention following attention, instead of attention directing attention – like a big cat chasing its tail. This is what I mean when I talk about helping people get inner control. Liberation is about freedom from the spin cycle. Helping the king of the jungle orient beyond his own tail. So he can get on with his real purpose. Truth is, life doesn't even really begin until we step out of this spin cycle. And the possibilities for creating outcomes really just BEGIN there. That's where the fun truly begins too. There was a lot of belly laughing, at one point early on I was incredibly moved even to tears when he shared a piece of his lens, his why. More than that though, they've been taught to be afraid of what's in the box. As long as people are in fear states, they're divorced from their own power. Today's episode is about the way I discovered what my own mission is, and a vision of what's possible in the world I'm imagining. “If I had an hour to solve a problem and my life depended on the solution, I would spend 55 minutes to determine the proper question.” — attributed to Albert Einstein Most of us can effectively handle problems we can clearly identify. When the issue is known, we can work to resolve it. But when the block is intangible, unknown, or an issue of our perception more than one of reality, it's another story. One of the most glaring reasons that people tell me they don't resolve blocks - is because they don't even know what the block is or where it came from. These are problems we can't even name. Another way of describing an interaction with this reality, or a relationship with what truly IS, is Sacred Neutrality. Everything we do is co-created. This subject is close to me because of the ways in the past that I've unconsciously benefitted from methods that were not in the highest good.  While I realize I was doing the best that I could at the time, given the information that I had, and the beliefs I had at the time, I also recognize today that I'm in a position of authority around these meta-topics of healing, and so I'm the perfect person to reveal in plain language some of the subtle ways we can give our power away!  Ironically, this can even happen in the process of trying to claim freedom for our selves, and elevate ourselves out of difficult circumstances by accepting the help of others.  The type of help we accept, and the way it's offered and received, has everything to do with how quickly the life we desire comes into view.   Today's episode is a vignette about reducing harm by not plucking at others' pain to achieve any goal or outcome - no matter how good the intention behind your greater vision may be. Labels like "people pleaser" are pejorative and dismissive of the values that are always REALLY driving a choice to please others at personal expense: values that matter, like being loved, or wishing for others to be happy. Today's short show provides a lens by which you can immediately bring greater relief into your own or another's struggle with people pleasing, and the way we judge ourselves because of it. A lens beyond the strife of dualism, that I call Real Power. My guest today is an ex-pat Iranian artist, film director, writer, and composer named Farbod Ardebilli. He's one of my favorite humans for a lot of reasons. Farbod was born and raised in Tehran, where he "illegally" started an Underground Metal Band and released the first Persian language Metal album on the worldwide platforms, and then shot his first film ELLIPSIS which won acclaim as an official selection for the Montreal Festival du Nouveau Cinema, among others. Farbod lives life in a very different way than I do, on the surface creating metal music, and rebelling against the system in very literal and substantial ways. But he has a softer heart than I do, and I really love how wears it on his sleeve. I'm honored to introduce him to you. If there's no exit in a maze, it's really just a cage. There is always this false fear when you're in a maze, that you could actually be trapped in there forever. that's what comes to mind when we talk about looking at problems - things we don't want to stay stuck in forever: when we believe there's no exit, or fear there's no exit, it's ceases to be fun. Is an exit strategy part of the discussions that you're having with support around you when it comes to critical path issues of grave importance? I argue that it should be. What do I mean by inner identity? Outwardly there are a lot of ways we can understand ourselves, and those identities help others to know us, and us to know ourselves. But the inner ways we identify are also very important. Knowing these unique personal signatures allow us to express ourselves clearly, to make decisions easily, and to simplify complex situations. When we understand who we are, it helps us to connect with community cross-sectionally, not just vertically. In this episode, I share a bit about my own identity values, how I live those out, and explicitly break down how this relates to cultivating self trust. By the end of the show the listener also walks away with a 3-step process for increasing self trust and coming into greater alignment with their own values. When I think about Dorian's defining qualities, four leapt to mind: the power of consistency, self belief, building bridges, and bravery. When you hear his background, you'll probably understand the bravery piece right away. When you see him as the motor of his brand in action, you'll understand the consistency piece. We touch on self belief in this episode, but it's the building bridges piece that's my favorite and actually least explored during our conversation. I see Dorian as a way-shower of sorts: someone who broke out of his own conditions / conditioning and stands before us as an example of integrity, healing, and generosity. The subtle differences are often the most important, and Dorian maintains his hope in others, and belief in others, just as much as he hoped and believed in himself through his own growth process.
