You've felt it. You're going over the side...and it's all crashing down. You'd better believe that Heather Chauvin has also felt it. She's both a leadership coach and host of the Mom Is In Control podcast, and today she joins us in the basement to share her personal story of leaving a job she hated, all while maxing out her credit cards to get her side business off the ground - and by the way....also while she was battling cancer. While sitting down with Joe, Heather also shares how she stayed motivated and shifted her life priorities from taking care of others first, to taking care of herself first - and then others. Putting her own "mask" on first (talking airline warnings here) changed her life, and it'll do great things for you too. Financial Lessons From Sky-Rocketing Lumber Prices. In our first piece, we share lessons learned from rising lumber prices across the country. Much like how we love to wait until the day before a cold front to make necessary preparations, lumber runs on a "just in time" system. When an extra factor is thrown in the mix, it can throw the whole system in disarray until enough time has passed to course correct. A financial plan made with margin for error runs close to the same fashion. The big issue? Late lumber impacts your backyard plans, a wrong financial plan messes with your retirement. Joe and OG give their takeaways during our headlines. Mortgage Rates Are Creeping UpMortgage rates are going back up, better run out and capitalize on it while you can!... or maybe not. Giving us some clarity in what is surely resulting in plenty of scary headlines, Joe sits down with Kevin Parker of Navy Federal. Kevin shares what you need to know BEFORE making any big money decisions, plus dishes out some sound financial knowledge that's helpful for anyone approaching loans and credit. Best Personal Financial Success Story?Waiting for us on the Haven Life Line is a question from Evan, who's looking for some feel-good news after 2020. He asks: what are our best personal and professional success stories? We're happy to share! Of course, we'll always leave some time for Doug's trivia. Enjoy!

Ask for what you want and remember that if we don’t know what we need, no one else knows what we need. One of life’s important skills is being able to listen to others rather than being an expert all the time. Healthy living means knowing that you are perfectly created and aligned, and that off days are ok.   Want to learn more about Heather and the work she does? Is mom in control at your house?  We don't mean "in control" in the dictator sense, or in the mom-is-storming-around-the-house-yelling-at-everyone way. We don't even mean "in control" to mean "your house is neat and orderly and your children do exactly as you say." We mean in control of YOURSELF. After all, the only thing you can really control are your thoughts and actions. "The first thing I always say is, if you want to feel in control in your life, you have to give up control," says Heather Chauvin , a strategic parenting expert and mom of 3 boys, currently ages 7, 10 and 15. "Because when you're trying to control you children's behavior, when you're trying to control and plan with no flexibility and then this happens and your routine is blown up, you will feel out of control." So, let go. Figure out where you want to focus your time and energy. Figure out how you want to feel. Then, make choices that reflect those priorities. It's OK to insert a pair of ear plugs when you need some peace and quiet. (In fact, Heather recommends investing in a pair of noise-canceling headphones!) You do not need to be available to your children, your partner, your work or your friends 24/7. You too deserve down time and time to work on personal projects -- and you will be a better mom if you give yourself that time. "When you're able to figure out how to protect yourself -- your space, your energy -- you're literally teaching your children how to respect themselves," Heather says. In this episode, Jen, Janet & Heather discuss: Coping with increased screen time Why you should invest in a pair of noise-canceling headphones Boundary setting Motivating boys How you can change the energy in your home -- & get your boy to come out of his room Dealing with online school Letting go of other people's expectations Helping our kids handle anxiety and uncertainty Links we mentioned (or should have) in this episode: heatherchauvin.com -- Heather's online home Mom is in Control -- Heather's podcast Mom is in Control Business podcast -- Heather's business-oriented podcast LIKE THIS EPISODE? Adventures Of A New You

Hello and Welcome to the podcast; Adventures of a New YouI am your host, Jen Parke a social worker and fellow adventurer! This is Episode 35 of the podcast and today we are going to chat about: 5 Tips to RegroupI have been attending a training series for supervisors/ leaders and we have been talking about improving a skill or an area that we struggle with. The area that I have been working on (trying to work on is patience) I find that patience is something that I struggle with not just at work but also at home and frankly with myself. In general there are a lot of areas of our day that require a great deal of patience. Driving in the car, waiting in line, trying to get our kids out the door, and then patience at work well that is another level. For right now, let’s talk about patience more at home but know that you can carry these ideas over into all of the other areas of your life One of my biggest triggers is getting out the door in the morning. I start to lose my patience here. First know that I wake up usually around 5:30. I like to have at least an hour to myself before the circus begins. Yes I call it the circus. The minute my eyes open a cat is crying to be fed, sometimes the dog is dancing at the door, other times I have to wake him up. Then I like to try to get all of my stuff done before my son gets up Some days the second the circus starts I wish myself out of this place. I wish to be somewhere quiet. Somewhere calm. Somewhere that doesn’t have Old Town Road blaring from the bathroom. Sometimes. Sometimes I lose my cool. Listen there are only so many times you can say put your shoes on before you lose your shit. But something that I have been working on is recognizing that I am escalating well before I lose my shit. This is something that I am working on. The first step for me has been being more self aware. I highly recommend that you check outHeather Chauvin’s podcast Mom Is In Control Episode #263, Red , Yellow and Green ZonesIn this episode she shares a super basic traffic light system that encourages you to be mindful of yourself and how you are feeling. Green is basically that you are calm. Yellow means you are a little on edge and red… well that is when you lose your shit. So absolutely go check that out. Being more aware has allowed me to just realize when I might be in a yellow zone and very close to teetering into a red zone. By being self aware I can try to prevent going into the red. But guess what we can’t prevent every episode that would push us into red. And honestly it’s ok to get in the red zone sometimes! We are allowed to get upset, we are allowed to get angry. But now let’s talk about how we can get ourselves out of the red zone. Now some of these are idea world situations. Not when you are literally trying to race out the door in the morning. But sometimes we need to be able to calm ourselves as we are running out the door because you don’t want to be that crazy mom that is yelling at her kids the whole way to school and then setting everyone up for a crap day. Trust me I have been there… some days are really hard… but you know what is harder? Working through feeling like a shit mom when we lose it. These are tried and true tactics that I have used when I need to regroup, calm down and get out of the red zone. They are super simple and literally can take just a few minutes. 5 tips to regroup - 1. Get fresh air2. Eat something&

Join us!   "There was always this contrast of who I wanted to be in the world versus who everyone else thought I should be."   “We can’t get our children’s respect unless we respect our children and deeper than that, we need to learn to respect ourselves.”   “Mindful meditation to me means awareness. Simple awareness.”   “Really, it’s about doing less.”   What you’ll hear in this episode: - The importance of mindfulness for parents and kids -  Sustainable ambition theory - Survival Mode, Momentum, Thrival Mode -  Learning to live outside of survival mode -  Meditation as a tool in parenting and life - Why it’s easier to teach a child to meditate than an adult - Co-creation as mindfulness - Mindfulness for older kids - Parenting as emotional growth on steroids - The value of quiet - Listening to your child without trying to fix them as mindfulness - Giving yourself permission to let go of how things look - The responsibility of personal growth and the intergenerational impacts   What does Joyful Courage mean to you? [33% of Pain Relief Miracle] I am constantly amazed at how willing parents are to put their children first. It’s common for parents to make sure their child's needs are met before they do anything for themselves. As well meaning as this is, it can cause problems in the long term. By always putting their family first and not taking care of themselves parents can find themselves unable to be the best parent they could be. One of the most important ways that parents can take care of their children is to make sure they also take care of themselves. This week I interview Heather Chauvin about how parents can use tapping to be better parents.
